Romney vs. Huckabee on Immigration

Today on the Live Desk with Martha MacCallum Governor Romney responded to a harsh attack from Governor Huckabee. The former Governor of Arkansas said, “ I guess Mitt Romney would rather keep people out of college so they can keep working on his lawn because he had illegals there, but the point is you don’t punish a child for the crime of the parent.” Romney responded by saying “Illegal immigration is not a joke. It’s something serious. The seriousness is very plain to see. In the case of Mike Huckabee he believes that illegal aliens ought to get a tuition break. He fought for that in his state schools. I had a bill put on my desk. I said no. I said it’s simply not fair for the children of illegal aliens to get a special discount on their tuition when U.S. citizens for all other states would have to pay a higher rate than the children of illegal aliens. “

This movie requires Adobe Flash for playback.

A few days ago in Laconia, New Hampshire I asked Romney almost the same thing, if children should have to pay for the sins of their parents. He responded by saying that he was concerned with U.S. citizens first.

Romney often rails against Huckabee’s tuition break position on the stump. But, it is getting more heated as Huckabee is nipping at the New Hampshire and Iowa frontrunner’s heels. Yesterday’s CBS/New York Times poll of likely Iowa caucus-goers has Romney at 27% and Huckabee surging towards him at 21%.

The former Massachusetts governor also answered questions on the “Mormon speech” and if he would give it. He told Martha, “There’s nothing of that nature written by me.” Whether the speech has been written or not is something that has been constantly debated by pundits. It looks like we now have an answer.

I go back and forth between Romney and Giuliani but I also have my eye on Huckabee.
Carl, I enjoy your political coverage–especially your big grin and what you say, as well.

Huckabee is just a Rudy pawn. He practically accepted the V.P. spot on Cavuto and the MSM especially Fox News is pushing Huckabee to help Rudy. Dick Morris laid out the strategy on O’Reilly months ago. He said in order to help Rudy support Huckabee and stop Romney in Iowa. If Huckabee was truly popular, where’s the money? He’s not raising campaign cash because it’s mostly hype.

Romney has strong support here in NH because he brought “taxachusetts” around to actually becoming a somewhat fiscally reasonable place to raise a family. NH is still the ideal spot because we have been able to fend off any passage of an income tax or sales tax. Those two major items were already in place when he got there. Read his book “Turnaround” it will give you the facts on how Romney accesses a situation, gathers the right people, and expects accountability from the people implementing the “game” plan.

If you really took the time to compare the two governors records, you’ll find that Romney far exceeds the accomplishments of the other. Haven’t heard too much from the drive-by media in this context, however, as the race heats up.. the facts will have more exposure.

Whomever you vote for..hope your right. Romney is worth stomping for if you look at his record and decide what you want the next 20 years to look like for you and your family. I gotta go with Mitt for mine.

I think it is hard for Romney to be honest about anything if he can’t be honest about his own name. I am not positive but pretty sure it is Willard Milton Romney.

If your parents are Mexican immigrants whether born of U.S. citizens or not you need to take a stand. More of a stand if your people left America for Mexico to practice polygamy. This is not love of family, or is it?

It wasn’t Romey who saved the Salt Lake City Olympic games any more than it was Hitler who saved the Munich Olympic games.

I strongly believe the voters in America need to know the truth about Romney.
