Edwards: Beltway Crowd Thinks We’re a “Bunch of Hicks”

Manchester, NH-

During an education roundtable with local teachers, John Edwards said he was the best candidate to fix the establishment in Washington , and was the only one running who could bring real change to the current educational system. Edwards said that one underlying problem was that the “crowd inside the Beltway” dismisses everyone outside of it.

“They think everybody else out here in the world, me included , we’re just a bunch of hicks who don’t know what’s going on.”

This movie requires Adobe Flash for playback.

Earlier, during a town-hall meeting in Bow, Edwards told a packed room that he was the best candidate to change the government, and fight special interests, that he argued have invaded Washington.

“Who can you trust to tell you the truth about what’s wrong in Washington, and who can you trust to fight like hell to make it right?” …those are the two things we need in the next president of the United States”, Edwards said. The former trial lawyer pointed to his experience taking on big companies in the courtroom, and proving victorious against them.

“I won. I just didn’t fight, I won and I won … because I never gave up and I will never give up.”

Edwards also offered up a little self-deprecating humor, joking about over his multi-million dollar house built mostly from his time as successful lawyer:

“Today, as many of you have heard, I don’t live in a small house” , he said.

Edwards will be in New York today rallying with striking stage workers, and returns later in the week to Iowa.

Apathy shouldn’t be translated into an assumption that the people don’t know what’s going on. The first people who know what’s going on are usually of the breed that chose to live farthest from it.
