A Fight to Get to Huckabee!

I’ve seen some serious New York City press gaggles, but nothing like what happened in the spin room after the debate when a reporter slugged Governor Huckabee’s aide trying to get an interview with the Presidential hopeful. Chaos ensued and CNN’s Dana Bash called security. You can overhear the reporter, identified as Joe Shea of The American Reporter online newspaper, denying the punch saying the aide fell to the ground. Security came and threw out the man who is definitely in need of some anger management training.Afterwards Huckabee said, “I’m going to send Chuck after him.” Referring to Chuck Norris who has endorsed Huckabee for President, but wasn’t breaking up fights instead was talking to media in another part of the spin room unaware that he was actually needed to keep the press off the Governor.
I asked the former Arkansas governor if he ever thought the press would be fighting to talk to him. He chuckled, “ I’m just glad they aren’t fighting to get to me so they can fight me. I’m not that good. Chuck’s the fighter. I’m the nice guy.”

Chuck Norris spoke to the press about his now famous commercial with Huckabee and how he doesn’t like to listen to mudslinging saying, “I just tune out.” As for his reputation as a fighter he told me he doesn’t think the other candidates are scared of him because “they know how tough I am.”

On a more serious note, Huckabee who is head to head with Governor Romney in the first caucus state of Iowa addressed how his campaign brings hope back to politics and how his surging poll numbers have transformed the race. He has spent dramatically less than his Republican rivals, “this should be an affirmation that American politics has some hope left in it. It isn’t just driven by money. . . It’s just not always for sale.”
Huckabee is clear that he’s the one that can win in a general election, “I have more executive experience than anybody running for President and the only person who has defeated the Clinton political machine not once but 4 times and if you understand what we are going to be up against next year and I maybe the only one who truly fully understands it I think that’s going to matter when people make their decision.”

The campaigns are using today to spin the debate in their favor. The candidates are heading off to different parts of the country to continue campaigning. There is only 35 days to the Iowa caucus and 40 to the New Hampshire primary.
****UPDATE JOE SHEA OF THE AMERICAN REPORTER RESPONDS:
From his American Reporter Blog, Joe Shea “the
reporter” behind the scuffle:
http://www.american-reporter.com/3,305/1.html
“Unfortunately, before we could get a few more words
out of him a Huckabee campaign aide who had repeatedly
jumped in front of me to block my access (apparently
so the candidate would step up to the tv platform)
chose that moment to block me for the final time,
rising up under my arm and forcing me sideways. I
guess he moved to my left, and I tugged his sleeve
sort of abruptly; he went flying into the crowd of
photographers and fell onto his back. I couldn’t
believe he had actually fallen down - he was several
inches taller than me, and an awful lot younger.
Then Gov. Huckabee suddenly turned around, saw his man
on the ground and pointing at me said “Get the
security!” I tried to protest that I hadn’t meant to
put his aide on the ground, to no avail - everyone had
seen me tug his sleeve downwards, I guess. But they
hadn’t seen me trying time and again to get to the
left or right of his back. He had no right to block
anyone’s access to Huckabee, and certainly not when
the Governor was in the middle of answering my
question.
But there we were, and dozens of photographers and tv
cameras started taking pictures as the police, called
by some ditzy blonde on her cell phone, decided to
take me away. They were generally very well-behaved,
but did threaten to taser me, and I ended up getting
ushered out of the the Spin Room with nothing worse
than bruised elbow. (Later on, I looked at the debate
transcript. The very first question Anderson Cooper
had was for CNN correspondent Gloria Barger: “Gloria,”
he said, “a lot of elbows being thrown on the campaign
trail the last couple of days. What are you expecting
tonight?” “Well, I think tonight you might see a lot
of elbows being thrown at Mitt Romney,” she replied.). . .
So who won the debate? Not me. I apologized as
strenuously as I could to CNN’s p.r. person, a
marvelous auburn-haired woman who brought my wife and
I water and was very solicitous, and she understood
what I was saying about the affair. The police said
the video proved that I was at fault, but I don’t know
whether they believed there was a provocation or not

Mike Huckabee’s star is shining bright….for the moment! He’ll soon fade as the truth starts to come out about his lousy record as governor. He is no match for Ron Paul! He is even stealing the Doctor’s ideas…guess he has none of his own!
To my fellow Americans,
It is with great hope that I implore you to examine the strength and character of Mike Huckabee as he built of granite and smells like roses to me. He is strong yet sensitive, Kind yet courageous, flexible yet resilient in all of his speeches, public service, and his life as a pastor from all the evidence his is not a flip flopper but a real American who defends his positions. Mike is willing to stand firm on Honor, Justice and liberty issues while maintaining a firm commitment and understanding our relationship with God.
I would simply like to implore Americans to give Mike Huckabee your open consideration for President of the United States. Fear is not an option in relationship to losing or winning versus Hillary; only honor, duty, and character issues should determine who we as Republicans and Americans pick to head our party for the presidency. Mike Huckabee however in my opinion has the wit, common sense, and political style to defeat the “great liar” of the modern political stage Hilary Clinton.
Mike position on taxes called the fair tax system would revolutionize our country making it the most competitive nation on earth to have a business located in and would bring back millions of high paying jobs. It would over the course of a few years balance the budget, fund social security, and allow for the American people to propel themselves up to a higher standard of living. To fully understand the tax change a consumption based system would have on our society can not be explained in such a short posting however I ask every American to consider that every dollar foreigner spend in America, every dollar spent from illegal drugs, every dollar spend by foreigner to buy our land, our businesses, our property, our infrastructure, and our companies would pay taxes to support our country. The American people need to not continue to pay the taxes on the backs of their labor the taxes would come from the consumption of goods and services.
God Bless America and Iowa,

Here are a few that they left off the list:
” Eliminated the income tax for families below the poverty line.

Huckabee is simply a socially conservative Democrat.
Wake up people. He’s going to raise our taxes and take our guns.
Come on.
I like Mike! There IS hope for American politics - when a great guy like Huckabee can start with so little funding and still have his message resonate and catch the attention of all Americans.
No way am I voting for Huckabee, sure he gives a good serman but I don’t want another feel good Jimmy Carter. I want a president who will resore my freedoms.
I believe Mike Huckabee will be a good President. He is sincere in all of his words and stand firm in his beliefs. I am sure he will win over Hillary Clinton on any debate. Me and all people in my company support him. May God Bless him and direct his path.
Insider Advantage was trying to tell Huckabee that he had just won the post debate poll when the whole pushing thing happened. Here is the actual video:

Too bad Chuck was on the other side. I would have love to see him give a swift roundhouse kick in the gut to the guy!
Why is Gov. Mike Huckabee rising so quickly in the polls?
He wants to educate the public about the FairTax, a bill currently in Congress that would replace the IRS with a national sales tax. (Did you notice his first political ad? Chuck Norris said, “Mike Huckabee wants to put the IRS out of business!”)
There is a huge national grassroots movement, especially in Iowa, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas and Florida to educate citizens about Bill HR-25 & S-1025. This bill already has 65 co-sponsors. Mike Huckabee is the only Presidential Candidate publicly supporting this bill.
I explain it to strangers this way:
Did you know that our country currently spends $265 billion each year to comply with IRS regulations? We could collect the same amount of federal tax money each year and it would only cost 10% of that amount if we taxed what you buy instead of what you earn…a sales tax! Every income level benefits – the poor, the middle class and the rich.
Imagine buying a coat at Target for $100.
Currently 22% or $22 of the cost of that coat is to comply with IRS regulations.
So if we did away with the IRS, the coat would cost $78.
Now add in the 23% inclusive (or 30% exclusive) FairTax or $23 and the coat now costs about $101.
Under the FairTax, you would get to keep your entire paycheck – (no deductions for social security, Medicare, federal taxes, etc.)
Also every household with LEGAL social security numbers would receive a prebate every month to cover the tax on basic necessities up to the poverty level. (For 2 adults, the prebate is $391, for 2 adults and 2 children the monthly prebate this year is $525.)
Only new goods and services are taxed at their final point of retail sale. No tax business to business and no tax on used items.
Who is against the FairTax? Congressmen and K Street lobbyists who try to manipulate the tax code for their own interests. $25 million has been spent to research the FairTax to be sure this 133-page bill will work. Nationally known economists have endorsed it. It is non-partisan – good for Republicans, Democrats and Independents.
How did I become interested in the FairTax? I was looking for a book to read at our local library and saw “The FairTax Book” by Neal Boortz and Congressman John Linder. Since I do my own taxes and found the book easy to read and understand, I felt that this was the only way to save Social Security and Medicare for the future! It also would simplify my life! I hate all of the IRS paperwork! I started a FairTax Club at Sun City-Hilton Head and we now have 175 dues paying members. We speak with local Rotary Clubs, attend county fairs and question state and local officials as well as Presidential Candidates when they come to town. The response is overwhelmingly positive. Thus Huckabee’s rise in the polls!

Go Huckabee!! Go Ron Paul!!! The only 2 honest grass roots candidates out there!!!!
GEEZ LOUISE TAKE A CHILL PILL. NO ONE IS PERFECT, OR LEAD A PERFECT LIFE. WHY DON’T WE LET THE “CONTESTANTS” SPEAK WITHOUT THE MUDSLINGING. AS TIME GOES BY, THOSE WHO AREN’T VIABLE AS PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL WILL WILL BE WEEDED OUT, IF WE ONLY ACT AS ADULTS AND KNOCK OFF ALL THE NAME CALLING, AND CHILDISH COMPARISONS. UNFORTUNATELY THE REALLY GOOD CANDIDATES AREN’T ABOUT TO BE PUT THROUGH A SHREDDER, MADE INTO FODDER FOR THE PRESS AND DESSERT FOR HATE MONGERS. LET’S LET THE SYSTEM WORK! Mike is our best bet to beat Hillary, Fight Fire with Kindness and Hillary will be exposed as a socialist.
As for Mike being a Liberal or Moderate, you have to be kidding me. He is not going to take our guns, he’s a hunter, He will not raise taxes & He is not going to allow amnesty for illegals. So all of those arguments against him are just plain wrong.
Don’t be jealous, join the Huckabee movement!
Ron Paul is the new Ross Perot (Babbling Idiot).
God Bless
Drew:
What do you mean “take our guns”? Huckabee has more support for the second amendment than any other candidate. Do some more research.
I think it’s awsome how Mr. Huckabee takes whatever question thrown at him from evolution to the IRS and gives honest, real and complete answers. He is absolutely what America needs in 2008. I also believe that same God given wisdom will lead him through the issues of foriegn policy. I pray I’ll be calling Mr. Huckabee Mr. Presidint in the near future!
Mitt Romney is a brilliant powerhouse. I like Huck too, but Mitt is the man that can steamroll any dem,
Go Mitt!!!!
WELL . . . “DREW”, IF YOU THINK MIKE HUCKABEE IS GOING TO TAKE AWAY OUR GUNS, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. DO SOME RESEARCH!!! RUDY G. AND MITT ROMNEY DON’T EVEN OWN GUNS!!! RUDY G. IS THE CANDIDATE FOR GUN-CONTROL. MIKE HUCKABEE IS A LIFE-LONG HUNTER, AND ACTUALY OWNS GUNS!!! THAT’S WHY I’M VOTING FOR HIM!!! READ THIS FROM HUCK’S WEB-SITE>
“The Second Amendment is primarily about tyranny and self-defense, not hunting.”
“The Founding Fathers wanted us to be
able to defend ourselves from our own government, if need be, and from all threats to our lives and property.”
“Second Amendment rights belong to individuals, not cities or states. I oppose gun control based on geography.”
“I consistently opposed banning assault weapons and opposed the Brady Bill.”
“As Governor, I protected gun manufacturers from frivolous law suits.”

I have to agree, that Huckabee is the best choice. Mitt is merely a RINO (Republican In Name-Only). Rudy gets dirtier and more Clintonesque each day and this is despite the non-stop support of FOX News and Rush Windbag. Rudy has already proved that he will have affairs on his wife and at the taxpayer’s expense. Didn’t we impeach a guy for doing something similar? If Huckabee doesn’t get the Republican nod, I’ll either sit this one out or if Obama gets the Democrat nod, I’ll start listening a little closer to his message.

This morning I read this new and different side of Huckabee: Hope it opens some minds to the man.
Disc jockey for president
Tuesday, Nov 27, 2007
By John Brummett
One of the national writers putting together a profile of Mike Huckabee asked how it might be that this preacher showed such an affinity for popular culture.
The Chuck Norris alliance, the tailgate party in South Carolina with the wrestler, the pardon for Keith Richards, the playing of bass guitar in a rock cover band offering Lynyrd Skynyrd - isn’t all that out of character for a man from the Southern Baptist pulpit?
Actually, Huckabee was a radio man before he was a preacher and he has remained more decidedly a media man than a pulpit man.
His superficially likable nature, which provides the essence of his oddly succeeding presidential campaign, comes via a disc jockey’s shtick rather than a pastor’s. I refer to the rich intonations of his professional voice, the music, the hip topicality, the impersonations, the jokes, the Mr. Glib.
It can’t be those radical policies. Outlawing abortion altogether, not merely leaving it to the states, is extreme. A national sales tax to replace the income tax is a gimmick, either scandalously regressive or entirely too difficult to design so that it wouldn’t be. He barely scratches the surface on foreign policy with what got described over the weekend as “cheerful know-nothingness.” He denies the better points of his record in Arkansas, since they’re entirely too moderate for modern Republican primary voters.
His is wholly a candidate of personality, and, as such, is more Don Imus than Billy Graham.
Yes, Imus. Huckabee can be mean and inappropriate. It usually doesn’t get revealed until the second impression. He’s still making his first out there on the trail.
As a midteen, Huckabee found work, including some on-air, on a Hope radio station. Then he had one of those seminal religious moments. So he figured he’d apply his talents and interests to serve Jesus through Christian broadcasting.
That led him to the seminary, after which, almost by accident, he got preaching work in Pine Bluff, then Texarkana. In both towns, he supplemented the preaching with work for which he was better-suited and that he more enjoyed. That would be a local cable television show.
He attained the presidency of the Arkansas Baptist Convention not so much by conventional preaching as by the clever politics of making himself palatable both to fundamentalists and moderates. It was from there that he moved to secular politics.
When Huckabee was lieutenant governor, needing something to do in that pointless job, he accepted an invitation to substitute for a vacationing radio talk show host. He invited me to be his guest, mainly so he and his callers could berate me. He was fully at home and adept in the radio booth.
One day as he prepared to ascend to the governorship, Huckabee had a news conference. I was struck by his intimacy with the TV cameramen. He joshed with them authoritatively about their equipment, specifically about the comparative modernity of one station’s gear versus another’s.
Then the producer of his cable show in Texarkana, Gary Underwood, joined the governor’s staff. Huckabee and Underwood transformed the governor’s conference room into an audiovisual studio. They produced a slick, self-promotional cable television program that they distributed for use by ever-pliable local access channels.
As Huckabee prepared to become governor, he said one of his dreams was to do radio play-by-play for a Razorback football game. Naturally, as the new governor, he was obliged. He described a few downs, smoothly and ably, of course.
From time to time I’ve written an unoriginal but incisive line, which is that Huckabee is really running for his own show on Fox or MSNBC. I’m sticking with that.
But I’ll admit there are moments lately when I wonder if he’ll have to go through the motions of being the Republican presidential or vice presidential nominee first.

It sounds like Huckabee is conservative on life and liberal on everything else.
Thanks Mr Brummett for telling us where you are coming from. I’d be curious to know why you think the FairTax is a “gimmick” so I could post a rebuttal.
I’d also like to point out that every single candidate is not as knowledgeable about some things as others, whether it’s foreign policy, the economy, or whatever else.
Wendy73, Huckabee was the most solid conservative of all of the candidates running for office. I think McCain could do much worse than to pick Huckabee as his running mate, since he would balance the ticket. As the polls currently stand, McCain would beat either Obama or Clinton, but with Huckabee, he would pick up more votes from conservatives.
