Thompson Running Strong in South Carolina
Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson continued to rally support yesterday in South Carolina, a state the former Tennessee senator refers to as “my neck of the woods,” and one where his poll numbers remain competitive.
Making stops in such places as Greenville, Greer, and Spartanburg, Thompson touted his consistent conservative record and foreign affairs experience during his time in the United States Senate. “I’m just about the only guy in this race who hasn’t lost an election,” Mr. Thompson said, “and the guy you saw yesterday is the guy you see today…and it’s the same guy you’ll see tomorrow.”
doneWhile greeting supporters in coffee shops and restaurants around the state, Thompson addressed a variety of issues ranging from illegal immigration to the Second Amendment to South Carolina’s startling high school drop-out rate. He also offered his reaction to a new U.S. intelligence report that claims Iran ended its nuclear weapons program four years ago. The senator said he was skeptical of such a conclusion, adding that he’s lost confidence in the country’s intelligence-gathering capabilities.
“I hope that they are accurate with this assessment, but right now, I don’t have the confidence in our own intelligence capabilities to make that assessment,” he told a crowd of supporters at a gun shop in Greer, South Carolina. “One thing that crosses my mind is that this is information that the Iranians have put out, that they want us to kind of relax a little bit.”
doneA sense of humor sometimes provides welcome relief in a campaign increasing in intensity. That’s not difficult for Mr. Thompson, who some say is never without a witty remark–even when pressed on tough issues. At a gathering of supporters in a Greenville restaurant on Tuesday, one man asked Thompson what he plans to do on his first day if elected President:

My candidate makes me proud! When I talk to my friends and family about Sen. Thompson I do not ever feel the need to run for cover. Thank you Frend Thompson!

I could not hear the audio from the clip, but even so, I had to laugh. I have no idea what the man said, but Thompson is just so relaxed and comfortable being himself. Some say he lacks ‘energy’. I find his serenity to be extremely refreshing in these otherwise frenetic days of the early 21st Century. Fred ‘08, without question.
What a wonderful blog! Thank you Cameron and Fox. Pleasant, easy to read, enjoyable AND I learned something about Fred Thompson. Thank you!
[...] Carl Cameron’s blog there’s video of Fred stumping in South Carolina yesterday. Two clips show Fred espousing his conservatism and showing [...]
In fully researching all the candidates in depth, I can say without hesitation that Fred is the only possible choice and the right one by far…no more choosing the lesser of two evils with that man in the race.
I agree with K. Plemons above in that I have no sense of wanting to be a Fred Thompson supporter “incognito”, but am very proud to let people know about him and my choice to support him. That is why I already have a Fred Thompson yard sign out in my yard!!
It looked like a great response in South Carolina! Thanks for showing the videos!

[...] And he is running strong in South Carolina. That is good, cuz he needs to win that state if he is to have a shot at all. [...]
Fred Thompson IS the right man for the job. He has the right ideas, the right plans, and the right energy. Go Fred!!
Thank you, Cameron, for allowing others to see Fred as I see him.
Cameron,
I really enjoy your reporting. You’re out there getting the story not just sitting before a camara and reading. Your coverage of Senator Thompson has been open and fair. Thanks for the great job.

Before I acame out in support of a candidate, I looked at what they are saying now and comparing to what they said before, and I find Fred Thompson to be the only candidate that I could really support, and I am for him all the way to 1600 PA Ave
I fully encourage President FRED to fire everybody. America is “mad as hell and not going to take it anymore!” We need change. Bush/Clinton/Clinton/Bush/Bush and an awful lot of it all just runs together. Why does “Republican” George W. Bush STILL have holdovers from the Clinton era in top government positions? We are dissatisfied with the GOP, and the new democrat leadership has run Congress’s approval ratings down lower than O.J. Simpson. Time to clean house.
FIRE EVERYBODY!
I was very impressed by the policy statements that Fred Thompson has released. He seems steady, reliable, focused, and comfortable in being the secure person that he is. His integrity and honesty shine through, which in these times, is imperative. I’m secure in knowing that in the coming months, as people become more focused on the election and what our choices are, he will shine even brighter, as his personal values and his vision for our country become more known.
I challenge anyone who reads this forum to please follow this comment with an honest, fair, detailed explaination as to why they feel Fred Thompson is NOT the best conservative candidate in the race. Its my contention that not only is he BY FAR the best candidate in this race, but he’s the best candidate we’ve had the privledge to vote for since Ronald Reagan– and dare I say, in some ways, Senator Thompson may be even better. This is a legacy of greatness in American history right here before our eyes, and I, for one, WILL NOT ignore it and let it go by because I let the liberal MSM influence my decision. The MSM ignores those whom they most fear, those who pose the greatest threat to their Democrat agenda. I won’t be fooled…..I suggest you disallow the same and do your own research, find the truth and refuse the spoon-fed nonsense. We are voting not only for the next president, but also for the future of the United States of America, our families, our friends, and everything we hold dear. Is it not worth a couple hours of your time to do some fact-finding and make an informed decision of your own effort?
I would like to know why Ron Paul was not in the replay of the debate the other day. I’m making up a sign that says:” fox news UNfair and OFF balance” and putting them on the back of ALL our 18 wheelers (about 50 trailers). They will be seen ALL over the country. It will get to more people then your broadcast does because your losing more people everyday. It’s a DRIVING billboard seen by THOUSANDS everyday,50 trailers and more trailers to come from other business acquaints.
Thank-you for your time,
John Corke
