Feisty Fred pushes back!
by Mosheh Oinounou
In response to a question posed by Des Moines Register Editor Carolyn Washburn asking for a “show of hands,” on who believes global warming is a serious issue.
Fred Thompson refused to raise his hand, instead asking for 60 seconds. It caused laughter in the crowd and the press room. The candidates won, each getting 30 seconds to talk about climate change

I don’t remember Fred getting a chance to talk about Global Warming. Perhaps the moderator felt he didn’t deserve it after his refusal to raise his hand.
Fred was spot-on!
Not only was this woman treating each of these candidates like 5th graders in asking for a “show of hands”, she then didn’t want to allow enough time for substantive anwers. That’s the trouble with these types of debates….they pack in a zillion questions and expect substantive answers in 30 seconds (or less)! It’s not fair to ANY of the candidates, and it’s about time someone had the guts to fight back!
Fred being the only consistant conservative up there on that stage knows that substance is essential in situations like this. Sound-bites are often twisted and manipulated into whatever anyone wants to read into them. If enough time is given for substantive un-hurried answers, we might know more about these candidates than just what the press wants us to believe. Kudos to Fred! Yes, I admit, he’s my guy right now…but, BIG kudos to him on this! This isn’t a race for student council…we’re electing a president…the most powerful position in the world! “A show of hands” is not only childish, but insults most of the candidates on that stage….NOTE: I said “most”.
I was extremely excited when Fred decided to enter the race for President but was quickly turned off due his slow paced, E-ore, Droopy the dog personality. I have been leaning very heavily towards Huckabee for the last few weeks but after seeing Fred come alive and firmly stand his ground with this extremely boring moderator my decision has one again come into question. I like to see a tough, strong, bold, in your face candidate that doesn’t put up with nonsense. I also like Fred due to his support of water boarding.
Fred was great! I was most impressed when he said the NEA is the biggest obstacle to a good education for our kids. If I wasn’t already supporting him, that one comment would have made me a believer immediately. The NEA has a dangerous, anti-American, nanny-state agenda and there are many teachers who agree, but who are afraid to speak out.
Fred completely dominated this debate. Join the Fred bandwagon. We have not yet begun to fight!
