Huckabee Discusses His Romney”Apology”
Des Moines, Iowa-
During a press conference at the Des Moines University Medical Center, Fox News asked Gov Huckabee to discuss the “apology” he gave Mitt Romney following the Des Moines Register/PBS debate today. Huckabee had apparently apologized to Romney over comments he made on Romney’s Mormon faith, in a New York Times Magazine piece. Huckabee claims the comments were made over a several hour interview, and were in question form. He contended that he specifically was asking the reporter, an expert in comparative religions, about the religion, not illustrating his own personal beliefs on the Mormon Church.
Here is his response:

Carl,
Thank you for the question to Mike Huckabee. I can really appreciate someone who takes responsibility for their actions and is willing to apologize for a slight to another person, whether intentional or perceived.

Heck with a doctrinal debate. I want someone to sit up and notice that there is absolutely no archaeological evidence for the claims of the Book of Mormon!
Why doesn’t Brigham Young University have a “Book of Mormon Archaeology Department?” That’s because there isn’t any evidence for the existence of the populations and cultures claimed in the Bible. (Unlike Christian and Jewish based universities who have prestigious Bible Archaeological Departments.)
How does this relate to Romney? If he’ll believe this load of Joseph Smith poop, he’ll believe anything!
I don’t want that type of man in the White House. Just imagine Ahmadinejad pulling the same thing as Joseph Smith. Would Mitt jump right off and believe him? I would hope not, but then, he did it once (allah/ala (ooops bad pun) Joseph Smith).
I appreciate the apology, however did the question ever get answered? Was the question an attack or a question. I live in a city where the Morman church has a very powerful reach and I really want to know what does the Morman faith teach? It has been my experience that this is a very secretive faith and its hard to get an answer to that particular question. Why didn’t Romney use this opportunity to answer the question?
The LDS Church most definitely teaches that Jesus and Lucifer are “spirit brothers.” They believe God the Father created Jesus and Lucifer. By nature they are the same, the major difference being Jesus was created first, Lucifer second and Lucifer rebelled against God the Father. The LDS Church does NOT believe that God the Father and Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one, triune God; but that they are three seperate Gods. They will insist that their Jesus and the Jesus of orthodox Christianity are one and the same. I know plenty of people of people named Jesus, but they are not Jesus. It comes down to the attributes of the historical Jesus versus the attributes of the LDS Jesus. Two people can share the same name, and be two different people; ditto re: Jesus. In LDS Christology, he IS the spirit brother of Lucifer. But then so are we all, as God the Father gave birth (in collaboration with God the Mother) to all the spirits in the pre-existence who have or will become people on this earth. So, in nature, Jesus is no different than any of us except he was the First Born of the Father, and has progressed further than the rest of us and has achieved the “godhood” that we any good Mormon has the potential to believe. If you don’t believe me…PLEASE do the research yourself. But be careful in dealing with the LDS PR people. The LDS Church has coopted much of the language of orthodox Christianity and given it different meanings. So the Church will say things like, “Only people who wish to disparage the Church bring up this Jesus and Satan are brothers thing.” The implication being that they don’t believe it…but note that they don’t answer the question. They will say, “We believe in the Father, the Son,and the Holy Ghost.” Knowing full well that most people will think, “Oh, well then they believe in the Trinity.” But they don’t. They are polythesists that believe in an infinite number of gods of which the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are only three. Just PLEASE do your research.
