Fred Thompson to Receive Major Endorsement Tomorrow

Update: Fox News has learned exclusively that Human Events, an iconic conservative publication has endorsed Fred Thompson. (per Serafin Gomez, Fox News Embed Producer)

To find out more about Human Events go to their website, click here

He won’t spill! Sean Hannity tried to pry it out of him to no avail. Taking calls for almost an hour Fred Thompson and Jeri Thompson were on Sean Hannity’s radio show today. While many of the candidates practiced and prepped for tonight’s debate, Thompson took questions from callers and Sean Hannity and played coy regarding a major endorsement he will receive tomorrow.

He said he thinks he has “a fair chance” here in South Carolina. He went on to say “South Carolina is where I stand.” He said he had a strong conservative consistent record which plays well here. “We have to do well here without any question.” He runs fourth in the South Carolina polls at 9%. Saturday, 19th will be the day of reckoning.

Tune into Fox News Channel 9pm tonight to see the final republican debate before South Carolina votes.

Carl, I am currently watching the debate on Fox for the Republican candidates. While the format is apt…giving each candidate questions of substance and an opportunity to respond, I must say that your question to Dr. Paul was so far out of the purpose of this debate. It seems that your whole purpose was to discredit him and ridicule him and his supporters in some way. This is not journalism and appropriate to this kind of public forum. Ask questions of substance or join the Tabloids for that is certainly where you are headed tonight. I am very disappointed in you and in Fox. It was an embarrassment…not for Dr. Paul who handled it quite well, but for news and what it should be. I will no longer read your blogs or watch your station until you apologize to the public for your venture into Tabloid Journalism in a serious deabe. Shame on you!

Why didn’t anyone question the Lutz group on their comment that Thompson’s inspiration was “too late”? They must remember that the campaigning began far too early, in my opinion, and he didn’t acquiesce. Favoritism has waxed and waned on both sides several times so far and will continue to do so until we’re in the voting booths. Why do some perceive that choices must be determined by now just because the others have been “at it” for “eons”?

Why is Mike Huckabee always trying to sound tough by saying, “You know, there’s an old Air Force saying–if you’re taking flak, that means you must be over the target?”

Are his military quotes an effort to try to sound like he has military experience, when in fact he has NONE? He wants to be our Commander-in-Chief and send our sons and daughters in harm’s way, but neither of his grown sons felt compelled to do like thousands of other young men and women did after 9-11, and join our fight in the war on terror.

Just what has Huckabee done to prepare himself to hold the lives of our sons and daughters in his hands as Commander-in-Chief? Will his jokes and quotes keep our country strong, our kids safe, or our military prepared for the next battle?

Cut the crap, Huckabee, and stop riding on the efforts and sacrifices of others.

Carl,
I think you guy’s did a fairly good job tonight,I also think Thompson did very well, and for once,I think Mike, had an actual chance,to clear a lot of things up,without Romney trying to be the moderator….Mikes answer to your question about a wife’s submission, was an indication of that man’s,conviction,in lot of ways, not just the faith side of Him….He was right though,He is always the one that gets the religious questions…..I would like for a change to hear Romney get a question like that,so that He for once would have to be specific,in his answer, instead of beating around the Bush…..ifyou need questons don’t hesitate to ask

Comment by Betty Jo Hicks

Well, Sean has finally gotten his candidate. It has been so obvious that he and Rush have been pushing him on everyone. Sadly, I love and respect both Sean and Rush but am so disappointed in them. Mike Huckabee is very conservative. Sean and Rush do NOT understand the middle class problems that exist in our country today. They have become a part of the “fat cat” club that being against propelled them into their popularity. Reagan was awesome, but it is a new time and time for some new ideas. I am for a fair tax and new blood. Go Mike.

Comment by Marge

I like Thompsons position on the issues but don’t think he has the energy and necessary exterior to win…In short I don’t think he is electable and creates the image of another Bob Dole Ho-Hum nice guy. Romney is the only one of the current batch who looks Presidential and who supports most conservative positions that align with the base. McCain, Huckster and Guilliani are all social liberals based on their actions while in office….the base won’t buy- in to the new rhetoric.. By the way, Sean Hannity also like Mitt Romney if you listen to his show.

After hearing Fred Thompson in the debate tonight I support him completely. He finally stood up and made himself heard. I hope he keeps booming his voice and making himself heard. Sitting back and being the mature one isn’t going to get the right guy in the white house. Keep speaking up, everyone is talking about you now!

Comment by Tamie Cruse

I hope Sean Hannity and Rush and all the others can help get Fred Thompson elected. The best of the best. Honesty, integrity, belief in what he says, strong and passionate. Let eveyone hear him and he will win easily. The media has been keeping him in the background as though he doesn’t stand a chance. bring him to the front and we have a winner!

I was undecided before tonight. Wavering back and forth between picking a republican or voting against Hillary (Obama). I had already told everyone my intentions of voting against Hillary in the primaries. I have changed my mind and now am solidly in Fred Thompson’s camp. Calling out the liberalness of the fresh Huckabee got my attention fast and I think he got better from there, most of all his personality. People elect candidates they like. Noone likes Hillary and everyone liked Reagan. Not counting Paul (who I think is by far the best fiscally, but just to 1800ish as far as international affairs), all of the republicans would most likely fight the war against terror with every effort of winning. They all seem to want to cut taxes. Fred seemed to be the only one with no holes in his conservativeness. That along with his personality I think give him the best chance to win.

What I didn’t get about South Carolinians or at least that group, was that hands down they said Fred won the debate. The reason some would still not vote for him was that it was too late. And here’s my point, they claim to be the bellwether and what they think sets the stage for the republican nomination yet are letting other events (Iowa, NH) leading up to them control them or lead them away from what they think is the best candidate? Sean should have asked them how in the world is it too late when he brought it at the exact right time? To South Carolina, which votes next week, not last.

One person in that room said ‘too late’ and the others thought it sounded good and repeated it. SC, you want to brag about changing the wind?, then do it. Or should we all just follow NH?

In Texas, Goodnight.

Sam,

Look at the candidates, and all of 1 out of the five serious GOP candidates was in the military; Ron Paul was, so you want him in charge, maybe?) Bill Clinton wasn’t in the military, neither was Bush…stateside guard flyboy doesn’t count. What exactly should the candidates do to get themselves ready for that task? Why no mention of the others? Fred kibbutzing in the Senate doesn’t exactly impress me, and Romney is no different than Huckabee. Giuliani was mayor, so who do you want? You’re a shill for someone, I take it. I believe, on numerous occasions, Gov. Huckabee has stated that he will let military leaders make military decisions, and he has even said that Mr. McCain’s judgement on torture should be the one we listen to. He has advocated increasing military spending to the highest levels since reagan, so our men and women are the best equipped and trained forces in the world. You are wrong about this, so feel free to shut your oversized, over-reacting piehole. If you are going to judge one, judge them all by the same standard. Otherwise your credibility is right there with Olbermann. SAM Olbermann…sounds about right.

Carl, I think you did an excellent job! Get job Foxnews, well done you were all on your best game!

Thompson won debate in my opinion, however not enough to vote for him. I can’t see how he could win in November. I believe Huckabee got hurt the most, with Thompson’s remarks toward him. Other then that no one made any major mistakes.

Comment by KAREN

I agree with Betty Jo Hicks, yeah Sean you think that you got your man, but I believe he is a day late and a dollar short, I was for Fred in the very beginning and got really excited that he would run, but got worn down waiting for him, he was too long and slow, did good at the debates but not my man anymore, what will happen is he is president and need him to take care of something how long will it take him to do it. I am a Huckabee supporter and I am very conservative, and I really think that if you and Thompson think tearing other conservatives apart is helping all of us you are wrong, it just sends a message that we cannot get along and how will that work in Washington? Are you going to give Huckabee a chance on your radio show? I thought that Fox people were fair and balanced, so show your true colors. I am finding that Alan is more fair and balanced than you, oops.

Fred is the man! I hope he makes it!!! Great job tonight

Fred Thompson won big in the SC debate. He spoke with clarity and conviction about conservatism and the Reagan Coalition. We need a leader who champions conservative ideas not mutant hybrid combinations of ideas that are meant to be a chimera to satisfy all tastes no matter how base, weak, or cowardly.

As for Ron Paul, his weakness was on display. He is not fit to be President. It is a pity because he is very conservative on some issues but the idea of retreating from the world and allowing a radical Islamic empire to rise is not a real choice. I do not like the US being the police of the world but when the world will not police itself and tyrants and barbarians hold sway over billions of dollars of oil money. We don’t have a choice. The towers can not be unfallen and we can not hide our heads under the covers of our shores in hopes that the very real monsters will go away.

AFTER READING SOME OF THE COMMENTS ABOVE, I AM SEEING A LOT OF CONFUSION WITHOUT TOO MANY COMMITMENTS. RON PAUL SLEEPS A LOT OR HE JUST DON’T HAVE A CLUE. THOMPSON WON, BUT WITH SOME DIVISIVE, HATEFUL RHETORIC WITHOUT EXPLAINING WHY. GOV. HUCKABEE SHOWS MORE OF THE HEART AND SOUL OF HOW THE AMERICAN TRADITIONAL PUBLIC FEELS ABOUT KEY ISSUES BOTH HERE AND ABROAD. THE MOST PASSIONATE STATEMENT OF THE NIGHT WAS HIS WARNING TO THOSE WHO COME AGAINST OUR COUNTRY. BTY, FDR WAS NOT IN THE MILITARY, BUT HE DID ALRIGHT, I BELIEVE!! THE ONLY ISSUE I HAVE WITH HUCKABEE IS HIS “NATIONAL SALES TAX” POLICY. I’M NO ROCKET SCIENTIST, BUT THE MITT ROMNEYS OF THE WORLD DON’T BUY A WHOLE LOT THAT WOULD CREATE A WINDFALL OF $$ FOR OUR GOV’T. DOES MR. BUFFET PAY SALES TAX; I MEAN, DOES HE BUY ANYTHING. DOES MONIES GAINED THROUGH “CAPITAL GAINS” COST HIM? THE PEOPLE DOWN HERE WHERE I LIVE, ECONOMICALLY SPEAKING, PAY SALES TAX EVERYDAY. THE GOV., I HOPE HAS A PLAN THAT WOULD BRING THE RICH TO WALMART, IF YOU WILL. JOHN MCCAIN HAS THE RIGHT IDEA; CUT SPENDING UNNECESSARILY. THE POOR COUNTRIES GET A LOT OF $$ FROM US. WE MAY WIND UP THE POOR IF WE KEEP SPENDING MONEY WE DON’T HAVE. WASH. HAS TO CHANGE, BUT CLINTON, OBAMA,THE NYC MAYOR,ROMNEY, CONGRESS ARE NOT THE ANSWER. MCCAIN-PRES. & HUCKABEE-VP WOULD BE THE BEST TICKET FOR AMERICA. GOD IS SOVERIEGN, HOWEVER, AND WE SHALL SEE. ONE THING AND I’LL GO: ABRAHAM LINCOLN ONCE SAID,”OFTEN I HAVE FOUND MYSELF ON MY KNEES, FOR I REALIZED I HAD NO PLACE ELSE TO GO. THANKS, RMcD 1/11/08

Betty Jo Hicks,

I do believe we are in our current crisis as a party and a country because we fell away from Reagan Conservatism….Mike Huckabee is a very nice guy and I commend him for being the current champion of the Fair Tax…but you must understand that the Fair Tax would first have to pass Congress to get to the Presidents Desk. If the Fair Tax does not get to Huckabees Desk what will he do…I agree that Huckabee turned around Arkansas but you have to ask how he did it. He increased spending and he increased taxes. I also understand that Arkansas had a surplus when he was done, but a govt surplus does no good to the middle class consumer/worker if you raise spending instead of cutting taxes. Arkansas effectively had 500 million in taxpayer money as a surplus that should have been in the pockets of the People of Arkansas…NOT THE GOVERNMENT. Once again I ask you what plan does Huck have if the Fair Tax does not pass congress…will he taxe and spend….will he cut taxes and spending…..from his record this is still very unclear. The Fair Tax does not an economic plan make…..Just food for thought…Hope it makes you think.

Peace,

Aaron

I think thompson and mitt had a good night. Its about time someone else challenged huckabee’s record besides romney. Romney did well by stating that he would fight for every job in america. He is the man who knows how to bring jobs back effectively.

Comment by Cheryl Moyers

I missed the SC debate, but I have seen clips. I think Fred Thompson finally shone as I knew he could. People need to listen to what he says, read his stance on his website, compare it to the other candidates’ stances.
Unfortunately not every American has studied economics; if they had each would agree that Mr. Thompson is the correct choice for the economy. Which I think is doing well, since I just completed an economics class recently.
What I like most about Mr. Thompson is “what you see and hear is what you get”. He has never changed from his position(s); he is ready to make a difference. Change? Please… while some change is needed, it needs to be made in specific areas and not pulling out of the war prematurely.

Close the borders; enforce immigration laws; remove illegal aliens from the American dining table; deny them access to any “American” social services. I believe in legal immigration, make no mistake about it. These swarms of people need to follow the law if they expect to get a hand-out. I also think that babies born in this country to illegal aliens or legal aliens should “NOT” be automatically labeled as “Americans”.
Close the emergency rooms to these people for everyday illnesses–go see a doctor for God’s sake, I do; when one starts getting sick, find a doctor, make an appointment–unless they can pay the entire bill in the emergency room. I am tired of paying for them. Take the incentives away.
People in this country need to wake up… diseases we got rid of are creeping back into our schools. Why? Because of illegal aliens. Not only is open borders a security issue it is a health issue.

I think Mr. Thompson will help correct these concerns.

There was Fred Thompson and no one else on the stage last night. There should be no doubt now as to his ability to lead this nation. He was concise, articulate, and has set the standard as to what to expect in a commander-in-chief. Congratulations.

axistogrind,

The reason I mentioned Huckabee is because he is the only one running around saying “there’s an old Air Force saying . . . ” as if he was in the Air Force. Huckabee is slick enough to know that many people will subconsciously connect him with the military when he does that. Why else would he say it so often (I’ve heard him say it on several different occasions)? A guy who’s as quick with quips as he is can certainly come up with something different.

I am no “shrill” for anyone, and your personal attack on me, by calling me names and comparing me to a left-wing commentator, makes me wonder if you’re one of the “loving” Christians who blindly support Huckabee simply because he is a Baptist minister.

I’m a Christian, and my faith has been tested in the heat of a real battle–several times. A guy who runs around bleating like a sheep about his faith all the time just doesn’t not impress me.

I am all for Fred in 08. I live in what he call a sanctuary city. A town in Tennessee. I am a social worker and the majority of our clients our illegals. They don’t get the benefits but their children do. And the way that the welfare system assists their budgets is ridiculous. Cameron if you read, this e-mail me and I will tell you how this system operates for the food stamp program and welfare medicaid for the illegals. The media does not know this and the majority of senators and represenatives do not either. This something that the American people need to know!

Just because Fred showed a little spunk in his planned attack on Huckabee, doesn’t mean he “won” anything and certainly I don’t believe he did much else.
Fred is neither concise or articulate, and without his notes frankly I’d be amazed if he could put two sentences together without stammering.
So much for Fred.
Give it up for old Doc Paul - he’s passionate about his beliefs. Unrealistic, but passionate.
Huck - heck, he’s just trying to figure out his next step, ‘cuz he never figured he’d get this far.
Rudy - almost, boy - almost! Maybe your handlers will let you off your leash sometime before Florida; or perhaps you don’t want too much attention too soon?
Mitt - well, let’s face it; Nobody from the media is calling him for all those jobs he helped de-create when he and his peers were pillaging easy targets in his venture capital days. And certainly nobody has had the cajones to target his offshore companies that avoid our U.S. tax system. Isn’t that somewhat deviant from a patriotic point of view?
McCain is the only one who commands enough respect and possesses the integrity to give us some hope, some direction. Believe it.

Fred Thompson earns my vote!
A man w/plans, who tells us how he expects to generate $ to implement those plans!!!(without taxing us to death)
A man who understands the limits of the Presidency when promising change and details how he would handle pork barrel attachments to bills (putting it all out on the internet before the vote)!!!

Comment by kim in ky

We in Ky. know Fred all to well. Ask around in Nashville, where he resides. Our local news had coverage about the “good ole” boy. Find out about all of unpaid taxes, property taxes and Fred pocketing 1.3 million from lobbyists. That sure is the man I want for a President. NOT

Comment by Bonnie

I was undecided until the debate. Welcome Fred! Give them a fight Fred. You are my candidate for president. You can win any debate. Get mad, show us what you can do!

fred thompson is a sarcastic, negative guy who was too lazy to get into any other race but SC. And he will lose there, too.

Comment by Carl

Kerry,
That is my greatest concern as well, but a whole lot factors into that ( eg. immigration is also very important to our security… perhaps more important than foreign policy and the war on terror).
The economy is also important. I am taking a look at my mutual funds this weekend, to head to safer havens until this recession ( some parts of the country are there already) is over.
Thompson is a good man. The three four front runners , Huck, Mitt, McCain, and, after last night, Thompson, are a tough pick.
Leaning toward McCain at the moment.

Comment by Charlton Futch

There are lots of folks out here who want to support Fred. He is the only true conservative in the race. He needs to speak out and people will rally to the cause. Go Boom..there is nothing to lose. Please help.

Comment by YuWang

After seeing how Thompson desperately attacked Mr. Huckabee with himself no chance to win at all, I’m totally disgusted with him! He’s only doing this to help McCain out. I hope people could see this. He knows he’s not going to be the nominee. The only reason he’s now fired up is because McCain needs his help and get a final push with someone else attacking Huckabee for him. Whatever tricks the two will pull, I believe in the end Huckabee WILL prevail, and there’ll be a better America under Mike Huckabee’s leadership. Thompson and McCain are only a phase, will soon be in past tense.

Fred Thompson’s a loser!

Fox News seems to pick up the losers to support. First it was Guilani, then Mitt; now Fred!

Fred’s record is horrible. He was a senator with nothing to show for a record. He was a big time lobbyist with his sons joining in. He supported the McCain Feingold bill etc. Fox seems to support him because he (they predict) could affect Huckabee’s surge in the polls.

The reality is that Fox has so lost its credibility that people are skeptical of anyone it endorses and tend to vote against anyone it supports!

Comment by Tracy Watkins

All Republicans and conservatives should rally around Fred Thompson. Be honest, Huckabee can’t win the big states, and thus can’t win. And he’s not a conservative. Fred is honest and knows where he stands. He doesn’t wait for his handlers to tell him what to say. He’s strong on the border issue and on national defense and is a true conservative in the way he supports more decisions at the state level…not the federal.

Comment by Tracey

Fred is Great in 2008!!! He is what we need! So Fred come on to South Carolina, we love ya and support you 100 o/o!

Comment by Butch

I think Fred did a good job,but ,being that He and Huckabee are playing to the same votes,He went after Mike….I don’t think that helped in the state of South Carolina…I also like Mike, and think that there is a lot less worry ,than people are making out there is…A lot of what reflected on Mike was left by the Governor Mike replaced as Lt Governor…He then cut taxes quite a number of times, and it is true that the people voted for a lot of the spending…for roads etc.,which Mike got a lot of national recognition for as being good…He really helped bring the State up to snuff…..On the other had Romney’s avenues to accomplish things in Mass.were very suspect
I agree with Rick’s summation to a point, and thank him for pointing to some of the things He did in his comment
I’m not sure I totally agree with who you endorse, but I’m strongly agree with you on the ones you don’t endorse.Romney’s reputation as” slick Mitt “precedes Him,and Rudy is starting too late, concentrating on Florida,I think McCain will be a factor..And I do like Fred but I didn’t like the Half truths about Mike in order to get Mikes votes….but there is a need for change and I think it should come from an Honest man …we’ve had enough lies from the Clintons, and don’t need to travel that road again with Slick Mitt

Comment by Willis

Boy Karen,I believe you ht the nail on the Head at least in part..but I’ve been seeing Sean support Romney more than anybody else…I know He did a thing with Thompson, but all in all I think He supports whoever might take the vote away from Huckabee, depending on the state they’re in…It was Romney in Iowa and New Hampshire, and now Thompson in Michigan ad South Carolina…Good Post on your part and Betty Jo’s …good to see that somebody is doing some research……As much as I dont care for Alan on that show,as of late he is the least biased…but I think there’s more to that than we know if you throw in who would benefit the most between the two should Romney win

Comment by Julie krbec

I would just like to say that seems like Sean Hannity is pushing for Fred Thompson.
If he thinks Fred is so smart, when he attacked Mike Huckabee during the Republican debate about Huckabee would like to see Guantanamo shut down…Well, for Old Freds information, it has been reported Sunday on Yahoo News that, The Chief Of US Military Adm. Mullens said, “I’d like to see it shut down” Mullen head of Navy noted that President Bush and Defense Secratary Of State Robert Gates have spoken publicly in closing the prison.
He favors shutting it down as soon as possible because he believes negative publicity
worldwide about treatment of terrorist has been “pretty damaging” to the image of the United States.
I think this should be put to Old Fred, to make up for how Mike Huckabee has been treated. If everyone at FoxNews is as Fair and Balanced as they claim to be, then this will be put to Fred Thompson. Mike Huckabee has a lot of supporters and if this isn’t presented to Fred Thompson in defense of Mike Huckabee, then FoxNews is going to lose a lot of viewers…is Fred worth that!

Huckabee has now gotten upset that Thompson called him out on his actual record, so what does he do? He says Fred needs metamucil and is only criticizing him because he didn’t do anything as a Senator?? Here are SOME of Fred’s “actual” credentials during his 8 years, Mr. Huckabee…exactly what were yours again? (Then again, as Huckabee stated before regarding current policy in Cuba…it didn’t happen in Arkansas, so you know…he just might not be aware of it. (I don’t know about you, but I would hope my President at least attempts to be up to date on current affairs!)

While the other candidates were out there making promises they won’t remember a few days later…he was working behind the scenes with experts hammering out his white papers. http://www.fred08.com/Principles/PrinciplesSummary.aspx?View=WhitePapers

I’m STILL waiting to see what happened to the other candidates detailed plans on what they’ll do to implement their own ideas (or ahem…campaign promises that never see the light of day) They’ve all been running long enough…(much longer than Fred), so shouldn’t they be expected to have had SOME substance by now??

Also…it’s refreshing when a candidate actually backs up and keeps those campaign promises they go around making…something that Fred Thompson is respected for doing. If you really don’t want to stop the corruption going on in our government, then vote for whoever…Fred has shown the true leadership and it’s just your normal people that want better for their children/grandchildren that felt compelled to ask Fred to step up and lead our nation. He gave up alot to do a very thankless job and I know it means a great deal to me. People everywhere are giving to his campaign….most of them have never donated to ANYONE before!! He can win and it scares the media to death because he doesn’t play by their rules!! (they also say he got in “too late”…too late by exactly WHOSE standards?? No other race has ever started throwing away money as early as this one…he refused to play by their rules, which to me shows his leadership even more clearly.!!)

Fred Thompson is a REAL CONSERVATIVE–pulls no punches, tells it like it is. I admit that I got caught up with the race when it started oh, so long ago! And now everyone thinks he doesnt have the stamina or oomph to pull it thru? Remember, slow and steady wins the race! If people would just check him out, REALLY check him out, they will see, just as I did, that this country needs FRED THOMPSON! I was all Mike for a while when I just didnt even care what Fred had to say–I was just like the others in the country, caught up with the race, thought the train was leaving and I needed to get on board. I hopped on the Hucka-choo-choo but Fred pulled in, blew his horn so I could take notice–and I SAW THAT HE IS THE ONLY TRUE, REAL, CLEAR CONSERVATIVE CHOICE! I jumped off Hucka-choo-choo and got aboard the FRED EXPRESS!!!!! Take another look America at the candidates again and Im sure, like myself, you will see who the CONSERVATIVE is!!

Its a RED FRED AMERICA!! GO FRED GO!!
