Giuliani’s NOW Volunteer Staff? Working for Free is voluntary…..

FOX NEWS has learned Rudy Giuliani’s cash strapped presidential campaign has asked paid staffers to work without pay retro active to January first to save money. Senior staffers say it is VOLUNTARY and nobody will be forced to work free. The effort is to keep available the most resources for the Florida primary January 29th. Sources say the campaign has also contacted vendors to see what ways it can save money by cutting costs.

FOX NEWS has repeatedly led the reporting on Giuliani’s cash woes. Sources say they are NOT out of money, they have some cash on hand but need much more.

Surely, even Rudy’s people have bills to pay? And while some of them may be independently wealthy, aren’t a lot of them young kids? NYC is an expensive place to live. Why doesn’t he dredge some money out of the millions he’s earned from his 9/11 fame if he wants to be president so bad?

I have just lost total respect for Mr. Giuliani. The “voluntary” salary give back is anything but. The game works this way…”Now we will see who is really with us”. There is no choice for staffers who,by the way, work 7 days a week and 18 hours a day. This is not a way to treat people. I have been a Rudy supporter from Day 1. This has changed my perception of the candidate. He has enough of his own money to bridge this gap. He obviosly would rather have staff take the hit than dig into his own pocket. Now who should we look out for as to the person or party that “wants change…out of your pocket”? Bad timing Mr. Giuliani.

Funny how Carl Cameron was told by the Fox producers and higher ups to try and insult Ron Paul, funny how Ron Paul was not interviewed after the debate like every other candidate, funny how Fox forgot to invite Ron Paul to last weeks debate, I wonder if I am the only one that noticed this? No, actually millions of people did, funny how Ron Paul and his supporters just won’t go away, funny how Ron Paul seems to be squeezing Giuliani out of the race.

Carl Cameron, Ron Paul is very electable- I mean after all- according to your precious Fox poll on who won the debate- Ron Paul was the clear leader. Too bad Fox tries, but it takes something alot mightier than Fox to silence freedom.

p.s.- Carl Cameron- take off the picture of you wearing those ridiculous bleau blocker sunglasses on the “Camercons Corner” banner- you look more ridiculous than you sounded in last nights debate.

why is it that almost every major story that isnt about both parties focus’ on the GOP race Cameron? I know thats where your heart and experience is. You produce decent stuff, it would be nice if some of your stories or “vlogs” as you call them focused on the democratic race. (your breakdown suggests @ 200 stories on GOP candidates and 120 for the Dems, and most of the dem stories are in conjunction with GOP stories) Atleast pretend that you care about both parties.

I think its time for Giuliani to pack it up and head home…There’s no “buzz” for him here in Florida, and I don’t see any of his signs or any of his staff.

Rudy is about to learn why politicians love campaigning in small states with early primaries. Its easier to reach the voters one-on-one and its important to get that early momentum. Florida is just too big to make a personal presence.

Any body else think Carl Cameron was a jerk last night? Carl, you have no class at all. Your 9-11 question to Ron Paul was so stupid and uncalled for. It shows what a teenage punk you are.

Maybe Ron Paul could float him a loan…

“nobody will be forced to work free”

Couldn’t help but chuckle when I heard that on the news. Well of course not, we aren’t THAT socialist.. yet anyway.

He’ll have to get tips from Ron on how to get free campaign workers.

Comment by Alan

I don’t read this in any negative light, the senior staff for McCain have been working for free for months and still are, and Huckabee is also relying on donated, or modestly compensated labor. Giuliani is probably smart to ask his senior staff to conserve money…after all, one can “donate” more money by forgoing their salary then they can by making donations. It’s a very effective strategy, and shows the staff’s confidence and devotion to their candidate.

Comment by Ron Sansone

I guess not having much money means Rudy is not beholin’ to any special interests.
On the other hand he needs moneyto compete. Looks like a two edged sword.
My advise would be to keep away from TV Ads. No one pays any attention to them anyway.

Comment by Carl

Giuliani’s viability is obviously starting to come into question. This is going to hurt him. Thompson had a good showing last night, and adds to the interest.

I support McCain…. honesty, integrity, and undeniable experience. It’s going to take a lot to knock him off the top of my list, but the republicans do have several good candidates. Not so for the dems… their two top candidates are like choosing between cancer and polio.

Comment by Dr. Greggory DeVore

This is another casualty of the campaign. The sad part is that Ron Paul has more money than Rudy! Yesterday Rush commented on the “state of the primaries” and pointed out that the non-Republican’s have (independents) have crafted the outcome of Iowa and New Hampshire. Romney (the silver winner) has received more conservative Republican votes than any other candidate. Michigan may turn out to be the same—independents and Democrats crossing over and voting for McCain. The sad part is that the Republican party is being hijacked by non-Republicans.

Since Rudy is having difficulty, it raises the notion that he cannot sustain a national campaign. The only hope is Mitt Romney. If Mitt loses Michigan, he still must continue because McCain and Huckabee are not the candidates to beat the Democrats. Since in the final analysis the winner for President will be judged on policy and presentation (debates, debates, debates), Romney is the only one with new ideas and the debate skills to pull this off. I am afraid that McCain’s “smile” will not energize the public. He also runs the risk of falling asleep! Huckabee is not deep enough intellectually to beat Hillary or Obama.

Reading a number of Blogs one finds that if McCain or Huckabee win the Republican nomination a number of people are either not going to vote or are going to vote Democrat! Why? The argument is that the Democrats will screw it up so bad for four-years that the people will be crying for a Republican conservative the next time around. If McCain or Huckabee win, then the country will be so screwed up, the Republican’s will never win again!

Comment by James Stevenson

Well well well… This guy can’t even afford the race, and the only reason he got some votes are from media coverage. Look at Ron Paul, no media coverage and he still got off the group.

RON PAUL 2008, vote for him or watch the country burn. I would also suggest you guys take a look at all the candidates voting records in the past few years. If you good “Candidate name here” voting records, then you will get this nifty little site that lists them. Its very telling of a candidate.

Hey Carl,
Thanks so much for all your hard work and reporting, but I just saw your interview with TV Guide, and I urge you to go home! Go see your boys! All the other is just not that important!
Just a little “motherly” advice…
Have a good day.

RON PAUL for 2008, check out his voting records and others by googling it, don’t let the media tell you who to vote for.

I’m no Huckabee fan. I’m a Giuliani guy actually. But I thought your question to Huckabee about his biblical teaching on marriage reflected very poorly on you. As much as I dislike Huckabee, I thought he hit it ‘out of the park’ with his answer.

If you’re going to play Gotcha, do it with something appropriate to the presidency- economy, national security, etc.

Comment by Disgusted

Giuliani is worth millions of dollars, and you can bet most of his paid staffers are younger people still trying to “make it” in the world. However, he has the gall to ask them to “volunteer” to work for him for free? He could easily pay the salaries of his campaign workers for another month or so until he either raises more cash or gets out of the race.

What kind of man does that to people?

Comment by Wince

Sometimes it is difficult to pull the plug on a campaign. While I personally like Giuliani, his quest for the presidency just hasn’t gathered steam. I have always thought that running for national office, a person campaigns throughout the country, something Giuliani hasn’t done in earnest. For whatever reason Rudy didn’t campaign all that much in Iowa, or New Hampshire; that was a mistake. Even if he wins Florida (which looks doubtful now), Florida will be dwarfed by “super Tuesday” right afterwards Unless he comes out of super Tuesday the winner, time to throw in the towel.

Comment by John

Wow! I’ve seen some websites list Rudy as having over $32M cash-on-hand. What I find refreshing is that Mike Huckabee is proving you don’t need to raise $100M to do well in the primary season – let’s see how long that lasts though.

I’m a Mitt Romney supporter but Giuliani is doing just fine. He is ahead in polls in the delgate heavy states like Fl, NJ, and NY. This is just media frenzy trying to force the republican canidate field to a smaller size. I have no problem with 6 canidates being in play on super Tuesday that way we can truly pick the best one not have the media pick one for us. The media is itching for somone to drop out so they will have news to report.

I believe the canidate who will win is Mitt Romeny he has plished corporate, international and legislative credentials as Gov of Mass. Besides 75% of america dissaproves of the job Congress is doing why would we want to pick one (Mcain, Thompson, Paul) of them as our canidate? Sending someone who made the problems to the white house to fix them is the Peter Principle personified. Are we to belive they can do a better job of convincing congress to fix the problems when they made the back room deals with lobbiests that got us in the mess we are in now.

Interesting that you’re spreading negative info about McCain’s principal rivals.

Oops! Maybe, Mr. Cameron, you should have directed your joke-of-a-question at Rudy last night:

“Mr Guiliani, yet another question about electability… Do you have any, sir? There’s is a question as to whether or not you are, in fact, viable.

“And there’s always the question of why you’re basically out of money while Dr. Paul is rolling in campaign contributions, and why you laugh like a hyena when you’ve got just 1 delegate, while Dr. Paul has double that, and why you lost to Dr. Paul in Iowa and barely beat Dr. Paul in New Hampshire…”

I took a little liberty and rephrased it for you, Carl. Take a hint…

Comment by Lance in AZ

Why is this article not being highlighted? The financial meltdown of the Guiliani campaign is huge news. This supports the stand that Romney and Thompson should not be too eager to leave the race despite conventional wisdom.

I’m a New Yorker, independent and former member of the Koch administration, who saw over 8 years what Rudy did in NYC. He’s an intelligent politician. If his strategy of concentrating in Florida as a spring board for the rest of the campaign works he’ll be once more considered a political genius. If it doesn’t work he will fade into oblivion.

Based on his past record my inclination is to believe that it will work. If it does then he is the kind of innovative leader that this nation needs. Breaking molds, thinking out of the box seem to be his trademarks. In a few short weeks we all will know if America’s Mayor has once again succeded against all odds. Good luck, Mr. Mayor.

I am so sick of this conventional wisdom sh*t… Why can’t Guiliani do well with his strategy? because it hasn’t happened before… well big deal, lots of things haven’t happened before. Its silly how the MSM things the possible is impossible only to end up reporting the possible.

The questions Carl Cameron asked of Ron Paul during the debate were anything but “fair and balanced”. I am ashamed to be associated with you as an American.

Post 9/11 I was a staunch Fox news viewer. I watched Hannity, O’Reilly and listened to Michael Savage on a daily basis. I voted for Bush in both elections.

Over time I started independently researching various aspects of our government, 9/11 and the federal reserve. I care very much for my country and feel completely duped by the mainstream media.

All I ask is that people execute some INDEPENDENT THOUGHT prior to casting your vote for the next president of the United States.

google/youtube/wiki the following terms: false flag terror, operation northwoods, uss liberty, gulf of tonkin, pearl harbour, north american union, the federal reserve

watch the following movies on youtube/google: loose change final cut, endgame, freedom to fascism, terrorstorm

The bottom line is that the information is out there. More important than your civic duty to physically cast a vote is your resposibility to BE INFORMED.

I have yet to meet an informed person who supports anyone other that Ron Paul. Help save our constitutional republic!

Comment by Bob Shulters

I think all of the reporters at Fox should no try to tell the voters or the canidates when they should drop out of the race. It will be up to the voters and the canidates when that happens.

Comment by Jane from Minnesota

Anyone working for a campaign has to know that it may eventually come to this, I don’t think he’s way off asking for some volunteer work for the moment. I almost wonder if this story has been spun and the real truth isn’t so shocking.

This makes me a little reluctant about Guiliani’s abilities to balance the budget if his campaign is making cuts, but you know what, he is still the best candidate out there. If any of the crap is true and he has to drop out (which I’m almost positive WON’T happen), then Mitt Romney will be our only hope! A Guiliani/Romney ticket would be ideal but let’s not let these McCain and Huckabee fans take us away from the real thing, people who can make changes.

And if we are looking for a candidate that is an advocate for change and wants to stir things up in Washington, what do you think Guiliani is doing with his campaign? He is trying something new, working out of the box, he is PROVING that he can make change happen! That’s what I like, so I am all for Guiliani and that momentum will pick up and skyrocket him to the top after Florida.

GO Guiliani!

Comment by Ray Norris

Folks, listen to what you are saying in your replies. First, I agree that Carl Cameron doesn’t spend much time on the woes of other candidates. Rudy is a fiscal conservative and the only one that can bring wateful government spending under control and reduce taxes. Second, I have been involved in a number of races over the years and it is NOT uncommon for staffers to volunteer during times of cash flow problems. Every single staff member are fully dedicated to getting Rudy the nomination. He has poised himself for Florida and Super Tuesday. They all understand that there are times of sacrifice and NOT one of them will be dismissed for not accepting the voluntary cost saving measures.

once again the talking heads assume rudys campaign, because his very rich top advisers have offered to work without pay for a little while, have decided to create negative buzz by assuming that he is strapped !! it could be that he is being frugal with finances !! the buzz has started in fla for rudy for those who dont pay attention to the pundits that want to cotrol the election due to ulterior motives…mccain was left for dead and just because he won NH, pundits want to say the momentum will carry him through>>>well, if people in other states change their minds because of the way another state votes (especially one as miniscule as NH) then those people are quite feebleminded and weak.. i cant believe people are actually voting for pres and changing their minds based on what the state before them did. wow !!!mccain has no money, he is years old and has signed bills with feingold and KENNEDY !!AND prefers amnesty for illegal immigrants !!! hmmm, kinda sounds like a democrat….o well, i hope people vote with their minds and not with the talking heads and the prior states electorate..sounds like a bunch of sheep to me!!

FOX NEWS
Why does Fox News refer to Huckabee as a Christian leader, or ordained Baptist minister when he had been a Governor for more than 10yrs… and at the same time you NEVER refer to Romney as a Mormon Missionary. Romney gets the title “Governor,” even though he has been at that job shorter than Huckabee. Is this a new anti-Christian intolerance at FOX NEWS?

We were looking forward to watching a rerun of the SC Rep Debate tonight and noticed FoxNews decided not to play the 2nd half of the debate again.

Why are you showing the first half of the debate twice? You all did this on Thurs night too.

This will give everyone a chance to see Sen Thompson’s scripted ambush on Gov Huckabee. I thought the Gov answered the Sen’s unprovoked attacks with class and substance. Obviously Sen Thompson and Gov Romney realized Gov Huckabee is a serious threat to their slim chances of getting the Republican nomination.

Sen Thompson should try telling us what he did during his 8 years in the senate. Did he lead? Did he care for people on a daily basis? Did he make life or death decisions including sending 16 people to the execution chamber as did Gov Huckabee?

Focus on what you’ll do for the country Sen instead of telling half-truths about someone who served with honor for over 10 years as a Gov reelected twice by the voters.

Folks, don’t let the media tell you how to think. Investigate the candidates yourself. FoxNews, Rush, Sean H, Laura Ingraham, … are all interested in job security, not the truth.

I submitted a comment several days ago, I believe on the 10′th or 11′th, but it has not been included. Can you tell me why?

Comment by Alvin Shapiro

I am very impressed with Giuliani, primarily for the remarkable job he did in transforming NYC to respectability. He also displayed excellent leadership after 9/11. I am skeptical of Romney, since he took a pro choice stance to win the governorship of Massachusets, and now takes a pro life stance to win the Republican nomination. I also have faith in Giuliani with respect to national security, which I consider to be paramount. I believe Giuliani to be very intelligent, fraught with good ideas, and someone who will be a great pesident.
