I thought Ron Paul looked the most presidential, and won the debate. He is a thoughtful and decent man, and the only candidate who genuinely favors peace.
I thought Ron Paul was very presidential. He’s the only one who has a (George) Washingtonian presence and a Washingtonian Foreign Policy–non-intervention!
Huckabee did well. Thompson attacked him strongly and it looked like a 5th place contestant trying to trip up a front runner. To me that only makes Huckabee look stronger becasue he is being targeted more.
Again… Ron Paul wins. Again the only person who speaks with facts. Again the other candidates were very rude and very unpresidential in there reactions to Ron’s comments. For some reason they seem it ok to discount Ron Paul with personal attacks, I would be fine if they could back up their responses with facts. I think that would be important, but unfortunately these schoolyard bullies have no class and cannot debate. And why do they not think that Ron Paul is a viable Republican candidate, he is the only true conservative. Fred Thompson lobbied for abortion rights, Huckabee raised taxes 47%, Romney well where to start raised taxes supported abortion pro illegal alien but that depends on who he is talking to, McCain is a pro amnesty spokes-hole, and Giuliani is a gun control pro abortion closet liberal. So, who does that leave – Ron Paul – Never voted for a tax increase, never voted for an unbalanced budget, never voted for gun control laws, never vote for abortion rights, and never voted for amnesty.
So, conservatives unite, rally around the only conservative who has the record for being conservative. Do your research and don’t follow what anyone tells you.
It’s obvious that the guy who won was the 1 FOX News un-Fair & un-Balanced is always slamming! Gee I wonder who that could be?
This man can beat any democrat.
Read his message – its isolationist libertarianism – the media is not reporting how drastic the world could be alter (in a good way) if this man wins.
I was supporting Clinton all the way, after that Fox News debate and reading about his vision – I am blown away at the depth of his clarity in leadership, his foresight and his straight talking facts. I implore you to watch that debate and decide for yourself. He won and how shockingly correct he is on things, he could deliver the wake up call that is needed. is it a requirement that every US president has a war – isnt peace and democracy there better option? The very thing we are trying protect and promote.
Religion in South Carolina could destroy this mans chance at the white house….his message appeals across the board.
Romney, Huckabee, McCain dont offer vision – McCain wants to be in Iraq for 100 years – why does this win support when the war should never have been? Romney thinks he deserves the white house and Huckabee is courting the evangelical vote – which is what is destroying the greatness (and possible continuing success) of the GOP. The party needs a candidate that crosses party lines – he is that agent of change.
I hope his rather good fox coverage shows how far this mans foresight really is, and that he vision for a libertarian non interventionist America is brilliant.
Is America ready to commit to iraq and afghanistan for the next 100 years? Why are republicans being fooled by this nonsence – this administration is asking you to place this war as a burden on the next generation. A war that didnt need to happen, bush could have just blown up to tora bora mountains – but moved troops away from Afghanistan to fight a war in Iraq? I am sorry, but who attacked america? It really does show the monumental farce of the iraq war, an the cost to america has been dear. For the argument for removing saddam – there is the counter argument in why Bush is now ready to engage with north korea? Who have actually developed the weapon and are now being rewarded by the US – I see far reaching ramifications in the future for Bush and Cheney when the Americans wake up and see how much damage these people have done. 10 years of REPUBLICAN government – i dont think i have ever seen such a bloated, massive administration. Ron Paul is a real republican with a strong appeal to democrats. If HIS message of change got out.
They are at it again with Iran people, for goodness sake – get rid of these war mongers – they are killing us – bad economy at home – rattle the sabre abroad again, having to borrow from CHINA to save our economy – America has fallen far and needs drastic change.
I hope the reps can see this – or that Paul doesn’t fall foul of the republican machine.

Ron Paul
If you read my post on one of the others, please bare with me. I felt moved to speak and this is what I wanted to say. You will not have to hear from me again I promise.
Why Ron Paul? Let’s dumb it down for all of you that don’t get it …. because we know you all think you are right.
The Constitution – who else is a true proponent of the document that is the foundation of everything this nation stands for? Oh yes, let me see, Ron Paul.
Who is the person that understands that adults are, well, just that, adults. So maybe, just maybe, we don’t need the federal government telling us how to live our lives everyday and wasting the money that you and I break our backs for. I work HARD and it seems the harder I work the more the government takes for me. What incentive is there to work hard, when the government decides who gets a good majority of my money. But there is so much hope with who? Oh yes, let me see, Ron Paul.
Wait, do you need another one? How about the only conservative, that realizes and understands that we do give the United States a bad name. We do take advantage of our civil liberties. We don’t hold them dear enough. Our soldiers are too protect us. But who is looking at for them. And who understands that we are causing more harm than good? Oh yes, let me see, could it be … Ron Paul.
Do you really believe in America and everything America stands for? Ask your self? Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. It can be what it was meant to be if we open our eyes.
My husband has lost hope in this country. I have not. I believe the American public can make a change if they just unite to do so.
I am a female and I am voting for Ron Paul.
I am middle-aged and I am voting for Ron Paul.
I am a Christian and I am voting for Ron Paul.
I have a degree and I am voting for Ron Paul.
I am an independent and I am voting for Ron Paul.
It is sad to say that I can not give Ron Paul my money, because I have none to spare. But I can give the one right that means more to me than anything, I can give him my vote.
I think Ron is the clear winner via Txt response, blog response and Live audience applause. I would not count Frank Luntz and his group as he has already been identified undeniably as a scam artist and has an obviously flip flopping group that back Fred and then got iffy after the not so suprsing txt poll return. Let alone they rated Ron the lowest during live response polling during a live audience applaud. I think fox has a damage control issue.
Ron Won! How could not? he represents the constitution. Like the old saying go’s If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything and we have be falling for log enough. It is time to go back to the foundation and the only one that know what foundation is is Ron Paul. They can snicker and sneer all they wont but the message is clear and therefor they fear what they see not so clear.
ron paul won
I’m going to have to agree with the phone poll… Ron Paul!
Who won? Ron Paul! Unless Thomas Jefferson comes back (and lately I have resorted to fantasizing about that) Mr Paul is certainly the best candidate for presidency. He’s got my support. A win for him is a win for our country. Best of luck america, you have a golden opportunity. Don’t blow it.
FRED-HANDS DOWN!!!
Mitt Romney won hands down. He was articulate. Did not interrupt even though he was passed up on occassion. Was better informed about the Pakistanian problem and the Al Quaida. Stated his policies and beliefs well and concisely. Had a Presidential bearing. Loved Thompson and his passion but diplomatically speaking, those traits could not always be in the best interests of our country if he were in a presidential position and dealing with International heads of state or country. Sometimes Thompson was very entertaining and that is good for Hollywood but he couldn’t use that attitude with diplomatic problems involving other countries. He did not convince me he was presidential. Huckabee does not have presidential bearing and did not always stick to the topic on hand…tended to go into political primping instead of debating. McCain’s smirk sometimes seemed insincere and unconvincing. Guilanni was good but seemed to miss the mark somehow. Seemed to be same old same old. McCain is still telling us he is the ’sheriff.’
FRED!!
I think Foxnews won!! Great job guys Carl, Britt, Wendell and Chris as always you guys were on top of your game! Watching the Democrat’s debate on the other networks has been quite pathetic!
Thompson won debate in my opinion, however not enough to vote for him. I believe Huckabee got hurt the most, with Thompson’s remarks toward him. Other then that no one made any major mistakes.
I would have to agree with the phone poll… Ron Paul!
Ron Paul won
Fox is doing to Republicans what it did to black america when they first began to broadcast. They leaned heavily on black programs and then, once they got the ratings they needed to lure sponsors, they fazed that out the black shows and now it is more “main stream”. Same goes with FNC. They started off conservative and somewhat balanced. Then they gained the following, got the sponsors and now they are using FNC to further a few corporate big wigs agendas. You can not tell me that Fox does not have a vested interest in the main stream candidates. It is so obvious.
RON PAUL WON THE DEBATE. HANDS DOWN. I think Fox turned off the speaker near his podium ( have to do that or the candidates would not be able to hear the questions). This was only done to make him look dumb. He was the smartest one on the stage.
Ron Paul.
Hands down FRED!!!! I was a supporter before the debate but this cemented it for me. We have a great field this year but Thompson is the standard bearer to the White House. GO FRED GO!!!!
For style and looks, it was a Huckabee/Romney tie. For substance and responses that sound like the candidate knows the office he’s seeking is to be the US President, Ron Paul shoots straight. The others have great sound-bites that express what they wish they could do if elected, but few answers given are ones a president would have any capacity to actually carry through. Ron Paul looks and sounds rough, but his answers make sense. Look at his campaign this way. ‘If Davey Crockett had only been willing to fight a battle he could win, Texas would still be a part of Mexico.’ Ron Paul is my Alamo, or hopefully my San Jacinto. I invite others who can still tell right from wrong to stand with the rest of us supporting Ron! He walks like a conservative, talks like a conservative, votes like a conservative; by golly, he must be a conservative. Bet the other candidates wish they could say the same.
Huckabee clearly is the best person to be the next president. Romney is done. Fred never started. All the Huckabee haters should give 10 min. to checking out where he stands on his website. Fair Tax. Pro-Life. Tough immigration policy. Huckabee is the best conservative and will be the man to unite our country, protect our country and advance our country.
Hands down FRED!!! I was a supporter before but this cemented it for me. We have an outstanding field this year but Thompson will be our standard bearer. GO FRED GO!!!
Fred Thompson clearly was the winner tonight. He is rapidly becoming known as a man who speaks his mind, yet does so in a quiet fashion. Tonight, he “finally” stepped up and took command. Those who know little about him, his values, and his position on the issues should take the time now to do some reading. Don’t jump on the Romney or Huckabee wagons just because the polls and and drive-by media praise overtly praise them. Fred Thompson is really the only true conservative running for President. He will bring back the leadership, values, and strength that have been missing from the government for quite some time. Protect the borders, stop the illegals, protect social security, improve the heath care system, and vote Fred Thompson.
Romney is the man. He is definitely the most electable of all candidates. He has the leadership, experience, and morals so desperately needed in our next President. We support you overseas. He has a plan and will get the job done.
He didn’t receive as much airtime tonight, but he won with the issues.
Clearly Ron Paul Wins! He can’t lose because he speaks nothing but the truth. America listen to Ron Paul!
Ron Paul Wins another debate!
Fred Thompson clearly was the winner tonight. He is rapidly becoming known as a man who speaks his mind, yet does so in a quiet fashion. Tonight, he “finally” stepped up and took command. Carl:
What kind of a question is it to ask Dr. Ron Paul if he is “electable”? He has been elected 10 times to Congress. He is the only REAL Republican. I found that to be very condescending and unnecessary. Why not ask Fred Thompson that question? He has gotten few votes than Dr. Paul. Dr.Paul raised $20 million in the 4th quarter and gets more support from our military than any other candidate. What happened to Guliani (Besides his 3 wives)? Who do you think is unelectable?
Cameron you let them off easy…The question to John mccain about immigration was a waste of hot air. He never fully answered the question about what to do “after the borders are secure” in the last few second he threw in they all have to wait in line….BUT in post interview with Hannity and Colmes he stated he would check into agricultural visa’s for the illegals…..WOW have fast his opinion changed…..He say’s he gets it …I think not….. I was one of those who called the Senate the day of the immigration vote and I assure you John McCain really isn’t getting it.
Fred, you are to the point, intelligent and overflowing with good old-fashioned common sense. No bull. Your answers are firm which makes me think that your reasoning is sound. You are just what America needs, someone who will take charge and stand firm on the issues this country faces. My prayers are with you. God bless America!!!!
Carl,
You and Brit have to get a clue! The obvious setup of Mike Huckebee with his religious test was cowardly. BTW he hit a homerun on it! I noticed you didn’t apply the “religious test” to the supposed winner, Fred? Why not? Why not ask Mitt if he is going to be the god of his own planet in the spiritual afterlife? I’m sure all of America is dying to know. Mike was the true winner in the debate…you guys and Sean H. need to get off the Rudy Bandwagon and do some honest to God unbiased reporting or FOX NEWS is no better than the MSNBC crowd.
Doug sends
Dr. Ron Paul won by far! Fox is SO out of touch with the American public! You act like a bunch of big bad bullies and only make us love the good doctor even more.
If the repubilican party is leaning toward the coward, money momgering, not patriotic, lets close our borbers Ron paul, I will leave the party and go else where. We have to groom our Allies, spur growth in the economy and maintain a strong military. What exactly is the party thinking?
No doubt Ron Paul is the only one who does not hide from the truth. Is Ron Paul the only one who understands that America is going bankrupt?
I feel that Fred Thompson did good, but he is too late, I still think that Huckabee is the man and I do think that he is very conservative, and he has been there from the beginning. I think that he did a very find job tonight, but if Fred is a true candidate he should have been here from the beginning. Please Sean quit pushing for Thompson, be fair and balanced and give the other candidates the same fair and balanced time on your radio show as Thompson. You are going to lose a lot of viewers because of your unfair and unbalanced comments, Alan has been the fair and balanced on your show tonight. You could see by your body language who you were behind after the debate, and then finding out you gave Thompson time on your radio station before the debate, not good.
Fred is the man!!!
Romney obviously. His answers consistently blew everyone else’s out of the water. He’s well spoken and intelligent and he has an actual plan for these issues. He’s the best candidate and could potentially be the best president we’ve had in 20 years.
Who do you think Won? RON PAUL….. whos fred thompson? oh yea! he is the guy who got 1/8 of the votes that ron paul did.
RON PAUL run as a 4th PARTY!!!!!
For the first time in years I had been undecieded by this point in the race. Fred Thompson has solidified my vote tonight. He seems to be the only true conservative in this thing. I think he means what he says. Huckabee, on the other hand, had my vote a few weeks ago but has come off as a cheap and coniving politician that mirrors Bill Clinton with his phony speak and rehearsed manorisms. I am an evangelical Christian but I get that same sinking feeling in my gut that I had every time Bill Clinton would come across the airwaves. Preachers can lie and deceive just as well as anyone. My gut is NEVER wrong!!!!!!
By the way, let me tell you how to deal with illegals. Deport them one at a time!
As I said here, red won because I think he gave great answers to each of the questions & because he put a but-kicking on Huckabee. I thought that tonight was the night that Huckabee looked like a 2nd tier candidate.
Once again Fox news has belittle themselves, the trust of the American viewers, and their “fair and balanced” reporting. I watched the SC debate back to back (the 2nd being a slightly edited repeat) and again, Ron Paul CLEARLY won, but o how Sean Hannity and the whole paid off news pawns were trying their best to demean Paul by AGAIN by cutting him short, making stabfull remarks, and interviewing everyone BUT the clear winner (the text message polls..remember?) Fox News and its agenda is no different than Hugo Chavez’s agenda – they both think they can control the masses, but you see, we are not sheeple as you all are! We have read between the lines and are all boycotting Fox News and every affiliate! How convient it was to drum up a “think tank room” for Fred Thompson, heck he’s worse on the debates than he is an actor (and a bad actor at that). It sickens me too that Sean Hannity calls himself a Republican, not only is he a rude commentator neocon, but a biased individual with his lowlife remarks against Ron Paul: Hannity said “Im sorry but Ron Paul didn’t win” and Fox news again ignores what the American public text messaged as the WINNER! Fox News, the only thing you have done is shown your true unfair and unbalance way once again ,, just as you did a few days back (remember, oh I guess that you forgot how the smell of manure was so you did this once more to show the American people that you are LIARS AND NON AMERICANS! Ron Paul has every right to sue your sorry asses on mutliple levels, but he is a man of truth! not duping to your biased level.) ONE THING ABOUT LAST NIGHT’S DEBATE IS THE FACT THAT NONE OF YOU CAN EDIT FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE’S MINDS THESE FACTS: its SO clear now that any candidate not bought and controlled buy big business and special interest get slandered, time cut during interviews, excluded from being interview (he was the clear winner by 32%!) . BOTTOM LINE: look at Paul’s voting record and look to the Constitution. Americans are boycotting Fox News and all the liars that control the coverages during Fox’s debates. Even Jay Leno pointed this very example out just nights ago when Ron Paul was on his show. HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE INTELLIGENCE OF THE AMERICAN FREE THINKERS YOU FOOLS, WITH YOUR PHONY GRAPH CHARTS-TRYING TO BELITTLE RON PAUL RIGHT WHEN HE WAS THE PROVEN WINNER FROM US THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! What morons Hannity and the commentators are!… I love it when the truth from Dr. Paul makes you all squirm like the vermin you are. Fair and balanced?..ha! rude and liars! EVERYONE ATTN:, McCain, Thompson, Gulianni, they are all for keeping wars going for years and years! VOTE RON PAUL ! DO NOT be swayed by BLATANT media bias! Shame on Fox for allowing the immature and unprofessional snively remarks towards Dr. Paul! The American public knows liars immediately! We are not fooled as you all broadcast in hopes for us to be! Hannity you are a disgrace! Vote Ron Paul America or boycott, simple as that!
I would have to say hand-down Ron Paul won my vote tonight. I was voting Huckabee, but after tonight I’m going Paul!!! He put it out there without having the “We need a change…..but not too much..” answer. I change my Vote To Ron Paul!!!
mike totally won. fred acted like a little kid.
mike all the way!!!!
i wish fox would just stop all their bias. we (the evangelical voters that used to like you) are fed up and fox is out.
MIKE ya go MIKE!
Ron Paul Stole my vote from Huckabee!!! I Vote RON PAUL!!!!
Ron Paul !!!
Mike won, of course! When I tried to text my vote however your system responded:”Sorry, you texed R2 which we did not understand.Check spelling and try again.” Does that mean, that maybe my candidate lost out on votes? Please respond. Thanks
Is it not clear to those of you who ignore Ron Paul, that this feeble looking, somewhat mild mannered old timer mite actually have his finger on the heartbeat of america?Truly it is time we shed the old paradigm of intervention in other country’s business via the CIA, unless asked by them for help.I truly believe that Ron Paul is more forcefull than you think.I believe that he lives by the doctrine of minding your own business,Taking care of your country(from within your borders)taking care of your family, and taking care of your daily business. Then if somebody comes to your country,or your town,or your home, and does a harmfull deed, you punish them with extreme force. This policy we are under now,is like punishing my mother or father for a deed i have done.I am by no means a sempithizer, but are you aware that there have been 150,000 innocent iraqis killed since the begining of the war on terrorism. Not to mention the future deaths and deformities that will happen because of the use of depleted uranium.Ron paul is for the constitution.Every president, and military man and woman also takes a sacred oath to uphold the constitution.I must have missed several days of class because quite a few of the things i see happening every day, atleast deamed by me,are uncostitutional. No more wars to make corperations rich.No more wars that take my brothers and sisters lives for personal vandetta.I am all for kickin ass and takin names. But it MUST be legitamate.Ron paul, win or loose your’e given it a hell of a go buddy and for that i give you 300,000,000 thanks. One for every man woman and child in this great land of america, whether you get it now or years down the road history and are forefathers will smile upon you.good- night and good-fight….
Ron paul won.All the rest are salesmen..
No question about it, Thompson definitely won!
Gov Mike Huckabee won heads and shoulders over the rest.
Ron Paul definitely won the debate. Hands down.
This one hands down was a Knockout by “Iron” Mike Huckabee. Mike owned this debate and the people of SC will see this.
I THINK RON PAUL GOT HIS POINTS OUT EVEN THOUGH THE FOX COMMENTATOR WOULD ASK QUESTIONS NOT PERTAINING TO THE TOPICS THAT WERE BEING ASKED TO THE OTHER CANDIDATES.SPECIFICALLY THE QUESTION ABOUT 911.
You already know who won the debate. It was the same candidate who one the phone call text poll you took last night. The very same poll which results I can not seem to find posted any where on your web site. RON PAUL WON THE DEBATE.
Fred Thompson was the clear winner in the debate (aparently the focus groups agree). I spoke to three friends after the debate (two who were leaning toward Huckabee) and the debate reallyhelped them see the relative positions of the candidates. Huckabee is a nice guy, and he’d be fun to gab with, but he’s no future US president. Tonight Thomson was head and shoulders above the others in his ability to address the issues clarity and with specifics.
I think ths debate will prove to be the turning point for Thomson. As Huckabee support shifts to him, he’ll come out of SC with some important momentum and the support ($$) will follow, which will alow him to get his message out and level the playing field. This is going to be a very interesting race.
Fred really came alive tonight. He had a few poignant positions but, I didn’t like how he reiterated and misquoted the same issues about the other candidates – especially without the full details to support him….. Romney had one really good point on Experience vs Change. He answers of “Nope” was perfect.
Ron Paul is an enigma, but there are times I found his answers to be somewhat interesting – ……Rudy – same Rudy……John, ummm I just don’t get him enough to feel 100%…..Mike – Again, the guy had to speak on the no-go-zone-topic of religion. He answered it beautifully and put the people who think they know the Bible – but Don’t -in their places. I learned a lot about Mikes past record (which I hope most people will look at with ALL the candidates) and am going to look further into Huckabee.
Who Won? McCain – 6, Romney – 6, Thompson – 6.5, Rudy – 5, RP – 5, Huckabee – 7.5
Fred thompson won the sc debate last night. Fred has always been straight forward on his beliefs and has never changed or fliped on any of his beliefs. He tells it like it is and sometimes its a bitter pill but you know where he stands.
i think that John Mc Cain won last nights debate.
You know who won? Mike Huckabee won!
I think Ron Paul won. Not taking into account his actual chances, he was the most concise and realistic about the issues and presented clear opposition to what has become the norm in Neoconservative thinktanks for what role our foreign policy should play. Then of course, there the electric rebuttal to electability, which I believe Fox took out of the debate in the replay.
I liked what I heard off and on from all of them. But I must wonder as a true independant if the establishment is wanting Ron Paul out of this election. Shouldn’t we the voter make that choice? Not Fox News. They clearly has a bias opinion.
John McCain spoke very well last evening. He has done much for our country and continues to do so. Mike Huckabee was a pleasant surprise as I have not heard him speak before. Mitt Romney is a well spoken businessman who has done much for Olympics and my home state (tough job) of Massachusetts.
I ponder with coffee, donuts, and Golden Retriever as to who won.
I feel that Mr’s Romney,Huckabee, and McCain have proved themselves in many ways and would be excellent candidates for President of our country.
May peace and harmony surround us all and God Bless America
Fred won…………..HANDS DOWN!!!!
I believe Ron Paul clearly won this debate.
RON PAUL WON….hands down…anyone with half a brain could see that. He had a strong comeback to every smart ass comment thrown at him. Why is FOX NEWS so AGAINST HIM? He is the only honest candiate, who told us our problems! Which most people do not like to think about, but more amazingly he had a SOLUTION to all of our problems! Our falling dollar, weakening economy, and out of control spending! Our military is being spread thin! We get our money from China! And now canidates are talking about actions against IRAN! Are you kidding me? All the other canidates told us the general answeres that we want to hear. Ron Paul told us what we NEED TO HEAR. Ron Paul won last night because he isn’t a puppet, like all the other canidates, who talk in circles and say the general cliche answeres. Paul was the only one who made sense. He was the real winner last night…
FOX NEWS SHOULD GIVE HIM A LITTLE CREDIT VS TRYING TO MAKE HIM LOOK LIKE A KOOK!!!
RON PAUL WON….hands down…anyone with half a brain could see that. He had a strong comeback to every snooty comment thrown at him. Why is FOX NEWS so AGAINST HIM? He is the only honest candiate, who told us our problems! Which most people do not like to think about, but more amazingly he had a SOLUTION to all of our problems! FOX NEWS SHOULD START GIVING THIS MAN A LITTLE CREDIT….
Last night in Myrtle Beach, SC – Fred Thompson showed up! Having been a Thompson supporter for quite some time…I’ve known the kind of man he is. Last night, America got to see it. Fred Thompson showed great strength, personality, leadership, and true conservatism.
One thing that really irritated me was the FoxNews “Focus Group”. They unanimously declared Fred Thompson the winner, but followed that with comments like “too little too late”. Folks, let’s be real. There have been TWO states represented so far. That translates to less than 1% of the American voting population. It’s also been proven that a Republican candidate has never gone on to the Presidency without first taking South Carolina. Fred Thompson beat John McCain and Rudy Guiliani (and Ron Paul…as if that really matters) in Iowa with little to NO compaigning. Senator Thompson doesn’t have the Mitt Romney bankroll, so his political strategists agreed the best way to spend the money his campaign does have is to really launch his campaign in South Carolina.
Too little too late? Hardly. No one is saying that about Rudy Guiliani who hasn’t come in better than 4th or 5th yet. He’s not campaigning anywhere other than Florida right now…which their primary is weeks away.
This race has just begun…and my friends…Fred Thompson showed last night what true conservatism is all about. Reaffirming why…I’M WITH FRED!
Campaign Carl,
I watched as the candidates each took little snipes at each other in a more or less respectful manner. There were times when people ganged up on Ron Paul and called his fiscal conservative strict constitutional views out of touch with the Republican Party. I find this odd as I have been voting since I was 18, back in 1994. I remember when Republicans used to run on a fiscally conservative and they used to pay at least lip service to the constitution. Something the Democrats never do.
What I was most disappointed in though was your manners Campaign Carl. You were flat our rude and disrespectful to Ron Paul when asking him about his electability. I’m sorry Carl, but I have lost all respect for you as a journalist. When studying how to be a journalist and how to be tough look at Tim Russert. That is a man that is well researched, well prepared, and tough, but polite. That is why he is very well respected. He will give every candidate a tough time on his show including Hillary, Paul, Huckabee, etc… He even got flack for giving Clinton such a tough time, but what he will not do though is stoop to your level Carl. For that you look like an amateur.
JOhn
I can’t believe I saw Ron Paul win tonight.
I’m happy for him and his supporters.
Huckabee was the clear winner. Thompson was trying to do McCain’s bidding by trying to peel votes from Huckabee. That was pretty evident. Thompson is going no where. Mitt was the biggest loser last night. Why would Carl Cameron ask a religious question? I’m confused what that has to do with being President. It looked a little obvious who he was against. Huckabee slammed him pretty hard though and got one of the biggest ovations of the night.
Fred Thompson Pwned that debate.
Ron Paul is the only conservative running. It sure is apparent that FOX News is trying to discredit the 10 term congressman. Not being included in the after debate candidate interviews with Sean and Alan. Then clearly winning the phone vote polling the viewers. In addition to being excluded from the NH Forumn. It surely seems that if we want a president that will shoot straight, bring smaller government, keep us out of wars, bring states rights back, solidify our currency, and bring America back to the constitution than Ron Paul should be the candidate of choice.
Huckabee won in my opinion. I think Ron Paul sounded pretty good, but his foreign policy is a disaster. I think Brit Hume schooled him on his comments that the other condidates were ready to go to war with everyone. Paul had probably the worst comment from Hume’s followup. Huckabee sounded articulate, tough on terror, and best of all he is a Fair Tax kind of guy!
Fair and balanced? Fox news should be ashamed! Your political coverage has become anything but fair. Your coverage of the debate last night was so bias it is shameful. I am a Hukabee supporter, and I thought he won the debate and you hardly even mentioned his name. Yes, you interviewed him after the debate with the others, but your lead in at the break prior to his interview was negative, and almost every question you asked was slanted in favor of Fred Thompson. Even your focus group was manipulated by the host by the questions he asked. He asked not one question about Huckabee. Not one. I used to have such confidence in Fox News, but to see how you have tried to play down Huckabee, and use negative verbage when talking about him has caused me to greatly lower my confidence in your fairness. I thought you were actually committed to fairness, now I realize your fairness is just when it meets your preferences. Shame on you! If I had been asking the questions, and leading the discussion during the debate when no one could see, the responses would have been entirely different. You should not even show such manipulated audiences until after the debate has been seen and evaluated by the public. Instead, you use your private group, with manipulated questions to bias the response before the public even has a chance to give there on response. Keep in mind, i WAS a huge Fox, and Hanity and Combs big fan. Not anymore. Your bias during this republican primary turns my stomach. Especially, when you have a claim of “we report, you decide.”
Tommy Collie
Please educate yourselves on the possible effects of the PAUL commitment…Generally speaking – if the road sounds so simple and obvious then you are probably looking out of the window not the windshield…
I can tell you who lost. FOX NEWS To actually call themselves fair and balanced, then attack Ron Paul with ridiculous questions not related to the debate, set up a fake focus group (Come on guys, only an idiot could be fooled that this wasn’t a hand picked group with preordained results), splitting the screen to show John “Ted Kennedy” McCain doing his foolish mugging, to that blowhard Hannity with his rhetoric of how Ron Paul is wrong.
I wasn’t sure who I would support, but if the main stream media is so against Ron Paul, he must be good for America and Fox News just showed that the media is against the American people having the freedom to make their own choice.
Ron Paul won another debate hands down. He spoke with honesty and integrity, even though he was surounded with hecklers and disrepectful candidates. Friends, this country is in trouble, despite what you believe or think you know. America is financially bankrupt (watch David Walker, GAO Comptroller General, and his interview with Glenn Beck this week), the US dollar is tanking (while the Fed thinks another rate cut will help), Social Security is a sham (there is no bucket of money with your name on it, you are working to pay for another’s retirement now, your kids and grandkids will be bankrolling your retirement), illegal immigration is causing entitlement program cost to exceed the cost of running the federal government. Ron Paul has the guts to level with the American people and his solutions are clear and consistent. I am a two-time Bush supporter and I now proudly support Ron Paul.
Ron Paul has more meetup groups and volunteers than any other GOP candidate. Why is that? When his popularity began to show in text and other on-line polls, it was discredited as spamming by a few zealous fans. But when his millions of dollars began to roll in ($20 Million in 4th Q), Fox and others found another way to attempt discrediting him. Fox and the rest of the media intend on suffocating Ron Paul’s message of common sense, and their attacks will only grow as his popularity rises. He has the most financial support from the military, why wasn’t that brought up in the debate?
I wish you democrats would quit infecting the Gop texting poll with votes for Ron Paul. The isolationism that he touts would be devastating toward our fragile, yet growing, trust with the Arab countries. Abandoning our efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan would totally implode the region into chaos. Extremist Muslims would be empowered and America would look impotent. Democrats would love to see that day. The only hope for Mideast peace is to build trust through out the region that the west is a friend and ally to all Muslims. We have to fight a constant barrage of Anti-American sentiment in their media, medras’s, and their political debates. George Bush could be seen as one of the greatest presidents in our countries long history, if his vision is followed through. His vision for democracy, a god given right, through out the middle east and the fall of dictatorships is revolutionary. For one second think what it would be like to live in one of these countries. Everyday you here from media and religious leaders that America and the western countries are the devil and must be destroyed. These dictators and religious leaders say these things not out of truth, but as a way to maintain control over a large and mostly uneducated people. These people have never been taught to think for themselves. The have never had freedom of speech to speak out. Religious leaders have used intense pier pressure to keep their flocks in line with the status quo. Many things we take for granted in the US are just a dream to those in the Middle East. Look to the Eastern block countries such as Poland and Albania. These counties love America and everything we stand for. This is because under communism the lived under the same oppression that the Arab countries now live under. If these people could be freed, we could see a mid-east as friendly as the former soviet block countries. I think it is unfair and racist to say that these people cannot achieve freedom because they have been oppressed for four thousand years. Its unthinkable in this new century that we should right off an entire group of people. This type of thinking is reckless and even stunning. The USA I know, along with the other westernized nations, have been able to tackle the largest obstacles including the almost take over of all of Europe in WWII by the Germans and the spread communism by the former USSR. The Middle East will be far better off without the dictators and radical religious ideology. As Americans we should all stand tall and proud because of our past accomplishments and be further resolute in our future victories for freedom and equality for all mankind.
I would agree with the focus group that Fred Thompson one this one hands down, which is too bad since he isnt my first choice in candidates
For all you who say Ron Paul won this you have serious problems. He lost it hands down. He may have a few good ideas but in no way has shown that he is at all capable of leading this country. Most Ron Paul say the exact same thing when you ask them why they support him over other candidates, and it once again shows in all the comments on this page now. Have you all been programmed to say the same thing? Everything you guys says sounds the exact same and is exactly what is written in Wikipedia. Sounds pretty memorized. More like a cult following than a political choice.
Numerous comments have been made regarding the disrespect and discourtesy Fox News has shown to Ron Paul, and I echo each and every one of those sentiments. Ron Paul has the courage and the strength to stand up for what he considers to be right for our country and he puts his convictions into action. He does the right thing. As a Ron Paul supporter, I also strive to do the right thing. Finding a cell phone in a parking lot, I did the right thing. I dialed the last number called in the cell phone to ascertain who the phone could possibly belong to. I reached the voice mail message of Fox Field Producer Jake Gibson, left my name and personal cell phone number and my wish to return the phone to the rightful owner. I then called the next to the last number in the call log and reached “Mom”, explained the situation to her and was told she would call Jake to arrange returning the phone. Jake Gibson then called the phone I found, which turned out to be his wife?s phone, and we talked while we walked our way towards each other. Maybe I expected too much, but an enthusiastic thank you would have been greatly appreciated when I handed him the phone. A Myrtle Beach police officer standing beside us asked, “Aren’t you offering some kind of reward for returning the phone”? If, beyond a quick thank you, any comment was made by Mr. Gibson, I did not hear it. My reward is in knowing, like Ron Paul, I do the right thing.
Fox, do the right thing. Give Dr. Paul the courtesy and respect he deserves.
I thought the big loser was Carl Cameron. His questions were meaningless. What does the biblical interpretation of Ephesians have to do with running for President? Mike Huckabee showed his class by answering such a ridiculous question with poise and grace. Please remove Carl Cameron and only have qualified journalists at the next debate.
Though I am not a republican by any means I like to be informed on what all the canidates stand for especially since I am a young person and our generation can make a difference.
First, I have to admit I didn’t know that much about the canidates before last night. Now that I have watched them and read more about them I think Ron Paul is a wonderful canidate. I am not sure that I would classify him as a repulican however but to be honest I know have two canidates that I really think would each make great presidential canidates.
Second, I felt as though the Fox news employees doing the interviewing during the debate were very rude toward Paul. I thought they treated him with much less respect than the other canidates.
Ron Paul probably is the best candidate. His problem is that he speaks the truth so plainly that no one can bear to hear it. If he got into office he would be completely impotent because the established government machine would completely crush any attempt on his part to get anythinng done.
FOX is part of this mess unfortunately. The Fox team has no courage to support the constitution as opposed to the established political machines. It’s too bad too. The people of this country love the Constitution, and would rally behind a media outlet that had the courage to lead. I say this fully recognizing that the 4th estate guides just about every opinion in the country.
Finally, Huckabee aquitted himself very well as a mainstream candidate, and probably won in that arena. Ron Paul probably won in the arena of truth.
By the way, FOX ought to have the courage to support Mr. Kucinich’s call for a recount of New Hampshire. As much as I hate polls, they have been pretty dead on thus far and the NH results smell of manipulation.
Ron Paul? Are you kidding or just not getting it? He looks like a confused man that can’t keep track of the questions – did you not hear his response to the recent incident with our Navy? He was accusing the other candidates of using that incident as an excuse for war with Iran – when they had all answered that it had been handles appropriately………duh!!! He and McCain should just go home and enjoy their retirement.
Thompson is the man! He understands the issues, especially that we cannot be concerned about what happens in other countries, especially the Middle East, when it certainly affects this country. Bottom line is…………….do you want to fight the war on terrorism over there, proactively, or over here in our streets where our families can be exposed and killed?????? Wake up you bunch of sheep………………………before it’s too late and this country is taken dwon.
Ron Paul – despite what Hannity tries to tell us to think.
Ron Paul was the only conservative republican on the stge…OR IN THE CHAIRS IN FRONT OF IT.
I used to admire Brit Hume, but I lost all respect for that man last night. All his affectations towards “gravitas” slipped away last night and he revealed himself to be a small-minded bully.
My advice to Brit? Take a year off, check into a cabin somewhere and read the constitution, repeatedly, until it finally sinks in.
Last night may have been Ron Paul’s finest moment, as he fought bravely against an 8 to 1 onslaught of disrespect and misinformation. Dr. Paul is the personification of integrity, and I’m proud to support him and his patriotic American message of liberty.
As ever…shame, shame, shame on FOX!
Ron Paul by far won the debate. Numerous comments have been made regarding the disrespect and discourtesy Fox News has shown to Ron Paul, and I echo each and every one of those sentiments. Ron Paul has the courage and the strength to stand up for what he considers to be right for our country and he puts his convictions into action. He “does the right thing”. As a Ron Paul supporter, I also strive to do the right thing. Finding a cell phone in a parking lot, I did the right thing. My reward is in knowing, like Ron Paul, I do the right thing.
Fox, do the right thing. Give Dr. Paul the courtesy and respect he deserves.
Ron Paul is probably the best candidate. While his presentation style is a bit tough to follow, the truth of his message is so glaring that the political establishment cannot bear to hear it so they demean it, and so does Fox. I hope that Fox is proud of itself, but I doubt that the public is amused.
Fox you are part of this problem when you could be leading the solution. The people of this country love the constitution and would rally behind a media outlet that would dare to support a constitutional approach to government. As much as I hate to admit it, the 4th estate does shape the opinions of most of the people in this country.
Finally, Mike Huckabee probably aquitted himself the best as a representative of the politcal establishment. Ron Paul was the champion of truth.
It is unfortunate you cannot find or Fox has not mentioned this morning the text poll from last night…is it because they don’t want the truth be known???? Or where was this candidate after the debate interivews???
RON PAUL WON!!!!
Dr Paul, of course, won yet another debate. His logical, precient, and unassailable message of liberty, peace, and economical responsibility is not only searing, it is consistent–and sorely needing to be heard and understood.
Until our society eschews the lust for war and conquest and begins to value substance over style, I am afraid we are in for more of the same empty slogans and pompous platitudes. (Maybe we just like be condescended to and lied to?)
Mr Cameron, I am afraid, should be ashamed of himself for his juvenile and disrespectful demeanor toward Dr Paul.
Mike Huckabee was the clear winner. He is the only one who gets the common man.And has clear solutions to americas problems. Every one can put down the evangelical vote but the truth is they will come out in drives and vote for him. So,lets go Mike and take all of the southern states!
Why should anyone believe polls after NH? It was pretty obvious that fox wants Thompson! What happened to fair and balanced? I am a Tennessean and I’m supporting Mike Huckabee! Like millions of other social conservatives, I won’t be watching Fox!
I can tell you who LOST…FoxNews. What a horrible display of bad mannners by the moderators and other candidates. I was apalled at the laughing and snickering of Ron Paul. After reading through the posts, it seems they managed to offend quite a few people, all liking different candidates. I no longer support Fox News. Thank you for showing all how biased and un fair you are. What a sick display!
I can’t believe that fox’s focus group said that Thompson won the debate, and Ron Paul lost.
Ron Paul was the winner. The rest of them sounded the same. Mike Huckabee came in 2nd, Giuliani 3rd, Thompson 4th, McCain 5th, Romney 6th.
I am a big fox news fan, but c’mon Fair & Balanced, give Ron Paul a chance!
Bruce Pate
Houston, TX
BIG LOSER? FoxNews. Their bias is showing up more and more.
BIG WINNER? Ron Paul
If America wants change, why put in another (dem or rep) with the same old message?
Let’s get back to the constitution.
Numbers don’t lie. I can’t spend more than I have for very long, why do we think the U.S. can?
Ron Paul is a total whacko and loose cannon. I just can not stand him. He constantly sounds like he is yelling and argumentative. I do not agree with anything he says but then again if honest – when he starts yelling I stop listening. I do not know yet who to vote for. Huckabee has a very good track record and i do love his sense of humor. However, hos fair tax dream is not anything I can support. I believe the fair tax would be a disaster. At any rate, i can not vote for him. My opinion of McCain is still forming. the jury is not in. Thompson wants to do the Bush social security plan and I hate that idea. I believe it would also be a disaster – so he lost my vote. That leave McCain and Romney – I am still not sure of either but I suppose I’ll know Saturday the 19th when I vote.
Can someone please tell the man to stop screaming!!! I can not hear him – he annoys me. How anyone can say that Ron Paul is presidential material is amazing to me! But I have my thoughts and you have yours. Each to their own. I can not make up my mind who to vote for on the 19th. Huckabee and his fair tax – he had me until he said fair tax – now I can not vote for him. Thompson wants to implement the Bush social security plan and that I will not support. that leaves McCain and Romney – tough choice. I guess I’ll know in a week.
Thompson hands down.
For those who keep saying Fox is beating up on Paul, look at Paul in this (and other) debate. I’m not even sure why he is running. He self destructed. I actually felp embarrased for him. He needs to bow out now while he still has some dignity left.
RON PAUL clearly won!
Cameron! I was completely disgusted at your condescending and demeaning attitude towards Paul. The way you directed ostracized questions towards him shows your complete lack of integrity. Fox News has become nothing more than another Entertainment joke (I’ll just visit the Onion the next time I’m in need of a quick giggle). The arrogance of your media outlet has me cringing and seeking a more balanced, reliable News Source! (MSNBC is my new Home Page)
Ron Paul is a man of extreme intellect and sincerity. This man stands behind everything he believes in and is genuine to the plight of the American people. He did not stand up there and feed us rhetorical responses (as did the puppets to his right). Ron Paul won my vote last evening.
Fred Thompson was certainly impressive last night I appreciate his forthrightness and his ability not to pander to reporters and pundits. He’s got my vite when NC’s turn comes.
Funny how Carl Cameron was told by the Fox producers and higher ups to try and insult Ron Paul, funny how Ron Paul was not interviewed after the debate like every other candidate, funny how Fox forgot to invite Ron Paul to last weeks debate, I wonder if I am the only one that noticed this? No, actually millions of people did, funny how Ron Paul and his supporters just won’t go away, funny how Ron Paul seems to be squeezing Giuliani out of the race.
Carl Cameron, Ron Paul is very electable- I mean after all- according to your precious Fox poll on who won the debate- Ron Paul was the clear leader. Too bad Fox tries, but it takes something alot mightier than Fox to silence freedom.
p.s.- Carl Cameron- take off the picture of you wearing those ridiculous bleau blocker sunglasses on the “Camercons Corner” banner- you look more ridiculous than you sounded in last nights debate.
I saw the debate last night, I liked Mike Huckabee, Ron paul is to nuts, and the way fox had to vote for the best canadate was sad, you should of had a 1800 number followed by a number for the person you liked, it just sucked the way you did it.
Ron Paul, I can not believe the antics that Fox News portayed last night, er, yes I can. I have never seen a display put on by this station and the other candidates to try to push Mr. Paul out of the race. FOXNEWS and thoseother so called candidates should be ashamed of themselves in the concerted effort. It was obvious as to what they were doing. The snide remarks show that apparently they are not ready to be President, I thought I was watching high school students on stage. Very unproffessional! As for Sean, Mr. I will pick the next President for America, Hannity his bias toward Paul was just as unproffessional and FOXNEWS should reprimand him for his UNFAIR AND UNBALANCED coverage. WHY CAN”T I GET A FAIR REPORT FROM ANYONE OR ANY STATION!.
Mr. Paul, thank you for saying what so many Americans are saying secretly, but too scared to say PUBLICLY because we have become the Nation of FOLLOWERS and not LEADERS!! YES I have called you out AMerica, wake up now and not when your pocket-book is empty and you are looking for a real leader!
FRED has awakened!! Its what I have been waiting for. Now Fred will roll.
Fred won the debate and now he is in the middle of thew race. Go Fred!!
Fred won the show. It could to a little too late but we saw the Fred we were waiting for, as for Ron Paul, he is real scare even though his ideas make some….some sence.
Interesting how most of the Ron Paul supporters are Fox News bashers as well.
Fred Thompson…hands down. In addition to his solid values, I actually believe what he says. The others appear to be scripted in their answers as though someone else is deciding what their positions should be. Fred Thompson also wants to bring communication from the President to The People back to the White House. A sorely over-due proposition.
What it broken in this country is that our politicians do not work for us. They are working for themselves and herding us through slick marketing to stay in office. Communication with The People will help correct this terrible evolution in our government.
Aside from that..Fred shows strength. I don’t care that he did not start campaigning a year early like all the other candidates. That just showed me that they are career politicians with self-centered motivation. Fred Thompson wants to help the country.
Fred thompson !!!! strength, character,class, experience,sound judgement,consistant conservative,solid as a rock.
Thanks Fox News for a great debate.
Be careful, America, and watch for the smoke and mirrors regarding Ron Paul. Looks like most of the comments on this site are being made by the same people over and over. Wonder if that happened with the text voting? Remember to look past the “charisma” and study the issues. Who is the one who is voicing your concerns and issues?
Fox News, it would have been nice to have an email address or 1-800 # to call to vote for last night’s winner. We Baby boomers don’t usually text and should be allowed to voice our opinions as well.
Oh, by the way, Fred Thompson won, in our opinion. And remember, everything on this particular comment page is just someone’s opinion, not fact.
Fred Thompson!!!! Strong consistant conservative.
Carl… what was that question about Scripture? What was the point of that?
McCain’s media darling status will end if he becomes the frontrunner. He cannot beat a youthful Obama. McCain is a hero and a patriot BUT hasn’t really done anything of domestic importance!
For openers, let’s put the Fox News poll by “texting” in the proper context. Fox blew this one….that’s why it’s not mentioned on the web-site. Ron Paul got the text votes from the crowd of ten to 25 years olds who spend most of their waking hours (and some not so waking) texting each other. I know! I watch my grandkids, always with their phones in hand. Yes, I have a cell phone…for business. I don’t use texting as it’s not GOOD BUSINESS. For true poll results, use the tried and proven method of “dial-up” to cast your vote and you will see more accurate results! If the multiple comments (from the same blogger) on Ron Paul posted here are an indication of how they respond, then Paul’s text votes were also duplicated last night. The real votes are only allowed one time for each voter on the second Tuesday of November, 2008.
Ron Paul is an outright “isolationist” and a loser. He showed that during the debate by asking more questions than the answers he gave…..when he understood the question and stayed on point. The only thing the Ron Paul’s supporters believe in is his underlying belief in not fielding armed forces for defending our worldwide interests, thus not asking these yellow-bellied kids to fight wars for our country. Ron Paul is a sniveling, whining ISOLATIONIST COWARD!
Folks, the world has gotten much smaller in the last 100 years because of technology. The radical Islamists HATE the use of technology because they lose control of their minions. As the world’s greatest super-power, it is apparently up to us to blow the Islamists back to the stone age (The Gates of Hell as Huckabee most pointedly expressed it). Don’t forget how the radical Islamists attacked us during the Clinton Administration by bombing the basement of the World Trade Center, the USS Cole, in Aden (where I have been in the U.S. Navy), and our embassys in Africa. What Clinton did in response was comparable to trying to extinguish Western states wildfires with a water bucket line. Oh! What losers the Democrats are!
In conclusion, Fred Thompson conducted himself in a manner more fitting of a “Statesman” than a politician. Do not be misled by Thompson’s mannerisms. He is the most conservative candidate for the Republican Party and would be the most effective leader in dealing with all the world’s problems. Someone opined that he “wasn’t even a very good actor”. Well……that’s what they said of Reagan. Seems like some people are expecting the Republican candidate to be the second coming of Christ, (praise his name). We just have to make do with our best choices. That should be “FRED THOMPSON” !!! He is stronger in all aspects than any left wing liberal that the MoveOn party can put up with their lies and shouting.
Fred came closer than any other candidate explaining why we send weapons (and money) to Musharef’s Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt. It’s because these countries don’t want Iran to run over them like Hussein did to Kuwait. I believe the Sunnis are our best choice of defeating the Wahabists and keeping the Shiites (or is it Shiias?) in check.
Yes, I spelled every English word correctly without using “spell checker”, thanks to my old fashioned education, thank you.
Who won?
Ron Paul!
Not only did he handle the OBVIOUS biased of Faux News but he policies are saner then the others plus is the only candidate who is NOT a CFR member.
I would give 2nd to Fred as it looks like he finally decided to show up.
3rd place to Huckabee,
last place take yer pick…
McCain insane lifeless old washington insider
Giuliani civil rights infringing former DA
Romney 100% politician, 100% fake
THE BIG WINNER WAS RON PAUL, because he speaks the truth.
THE BIG LOSER IS FOX NEWS!! What I saw last night was disgusting and shameful, just when I thought Faux News couldn’t get any lower, along comes Carl Cameron. I used to think Brit Hume had a little class but he proved me wrong last night and there’s no words to describe what I’ve always felt about Hannity.
I have avoided the boycott against Faux News and their sponsors but no more. I know at least 12 more people who will now join that boycott and that’s just one family, so watch out Fox, I predict your future isn’t going to be as bright as you think and it’s not just Ron Paul supporters that you’re losing.
I am appalled at Sean Hannity and the way this was handled I am not necessarily a Ron Paul supporter. However You can’t dispute the fact that he did win this debate in your phone poll and that 80 % of what he said was correct . Yet the only clips that were shown were negative and Sean Hannity said in regard to the phone in Poll on who won that he didn’t care what the Viewers had to say . His Comment was I don’t care as far as I am concerned “Ron Paul did not win.” What happened to Non Biased reporting. Why did they have the phone poll if this was his opinion and why aren’t the results of the phone poll on the website? You can’t dispute the fact that he beat Thompson In New Hampshire regardless that the Press is trying to suppress him. HE has supporters , Lots of them and this kind of behavior is only going to light a bigger fire under them . As a Fox News fan I am very very disappointed in this behavior Again I think Ron Paul has ALOT of Valid claims he is just out of the loop when it comes to Foreign Policy. He stated that it was only 5 Iranian speed boats that approached the us Navy Ship. SO we are making a big deal of something small we must keep in mind it was a speed boat that killed men on the USS Cole. That aside a all Candidates should receive a fair and balanced chance and not ridiculed as Senator Paul was last night.
Aunt Tami
McCain had my vote, but after listening to Dr. Ron Paul and hearing and seeing the other candidates giggling and trying to be condescending to a man who has not only been elected ten times to Congress but is also an M.D. shows me that the maturity level of the other candidates is almost pre-pubescent in nature. Dr. Paul probably has more education than the majority of the candidates on that stage. People have a tendency to dismiss the obvious winner when they feel threatened and by looking at the amount of money that Ron Paul has raised without his own organization being directly involved, shows me that the American people will not be fooled by these dog and pony show politicians. Of course, with election fraud ready and waiting, the candidate who wins, whether Dem. or Rep. will be chosen not by the people but by the deciding powers in corporate America. At the very least, Dr. Paul is getting a message out that lip service is not going to change the downward spiral that is The United States in its present state of affairs. We do need change, and that does not mean changing the status quo.
Fred won. He’s the only true conservative in the bunch. I hope he sweeps SC and moves on to Florida. His main problem is that he is too good to be a politician. He’s in the race because he feels compelled to do the right thing. Not like the other candidates who are in it because it’s their career and they are trying to reach the top.
Go fred go! We’re with you all the way.
Bush is a meanie! He wants us to use our bombs and stuff on everybody. He makes it to where everybody hates America and stuff. (WAH WAH WAH!!!) We need a real peacemaker like Ron Paul in office. That would make it so much easier to negotiate with the terrorist, oh yeah I forgot, they talk with planes don’t they. Why does it seem that so many Repubs are buying into the Dem party line. We are in Iraq for reasons that are maybe not yet apparent to most but anyone with just a small bit of hindsight anyone could realize that no matter who was in office we would be in the same place right now.
How is it that the entire congress made the same descision that Bush did. THEY HAD THE SAME INFORMATION!
Thompson is a true conservative and a winner. Huckabee is warm, funny, smart and determined. Both have a great chance of beating the Dem nominee. Let’s focus on the real race and issue’s and quit pretending that a wacko like Paul is doing anything but taking focus off the real canidates.
Way to bury this “Who won the debate” poll Fox. I am truly dissappointed with the Fox political coverage and the clear bias you have against Congressman Ron Paul. First Fox excludes him from the NH Debate and then your debate moderators try to insult and smear Congressman Paul at the SC Debate.
Congressman Paul has every right to participate in these debates. He is a Republican Congressman, He is a veteran and this is still supposed to be a democracy. He’s getting as many votes as Gulliani and he has recently raised more money than any other political candidate.
In spite of your attempts to ridicule him, Congressman Paul stood his ground and sounded like a true “Republican” trying to restore Republican values to his party.
But you excluded him from the post debate interviews and when your “Who won the debate poll” showed that Congressman Paul was winning the poll, you no longer showed your own poll.
I am disgusted with your coverage and I will no longer consider you as my news source!
Why does Fred Thompson not get more coverage. He has done very well in every debate, winning this one hands down! He and Ron Paul are the only true conservatives on the stage, along with Duncan Hunter I suppose. They should all make light of the fact that just a few years ago Romney, Giuliani, McCain, and Huckabee were all liberals and probably still are today. Consistency should be their message, not expediency like the others.
I can see the Ron Paul lunatics are out in full force. This guy is sincere but completely delusional and hasn’t got a grip on reality………. Fox made a huge mistake including him. He never said what he would he do as President…just bashed the US for it’s policies and position in the world. He’s an isolationist and if you people who support him don’t realize it, you don’t have a clue either.
As far as who won the debate, I believe Mike Huckaby did. Although I don’t support him, he is a great speaker, much like Bill Clinton, and can be very convincing. Unfortunately, he is not to be trusted.
A close second was Fred Thompson who is clearly the most presidential candidate. He has the most integrity and common sense of all the candidates.
Hannity’s treatment of Ron Paul was rude and condescending .Paul won the text debate ,yet its not mentioned as a headline ..or anywhere easy to find in your reporting …isn’t your motto report the fair and balanced ?
ron Paul
Again, as you all seen publicly on the Fox News Channel, Ron Paul won the text based vote by a land slide. I do find it highly disturbing that Fox News Channel states they are for “fair and balanced” reporting, yet they tried so hard to de-rail Ron Paul from debate questions by asking “would you ask your supporters to abandon their views that the US had a conspiracy hand in the 911 attacks?” Asking that question clearly shown that Fox News does NOT want Ron at anything Fox has a hand in, because Ron had to fight to participate in the debate on the floor. I’m sure the New Hampshire debates changed Fox’s mind, since so many of us supporters flamed Fox News for supressing replubican voters education by not inviting Dr. Paul to the debate there. Even the special edition of Hannity and Colmes after the S.C. debates suppressed Republican voter education by not having Congressman Paul on their post debate show, they only invited the warmongering republicans to be on (I though there was a law about fair media time for political candidates…. I hears Sean Hannity griping about it all through Bush’s second term election..) And not all of the Ron Paul supporters are “loony’s” like Bill O’Rielly stated on Fox News Radio yesterday. We want what’s best for the nation.. and that’s to follow the constitution.
Ron Paul proved you can live in Never Never Land, and still run for the President of the United States of America. When he sowed he was hard of hearing, he made John McCain look young.
Huckabee tried hold his ground, and Fred was not at all laconic. Fred had the best ideas, and may be the best Vice Presidential Candidate, if a moderate like Juliani, or Romney wins.
I am a conservative, so I’m with Fred.
RON PAUL won !
I wish Fox News was Fair & Balanced – it`s NOT !
RON PAUL WON!!!! He SPOKE facts. While everyone else spoke and said NOTHING.
Unfortunately, the only flaw I see with Dr. Paul is that he’s TOO much of an INTELLECT for the average American who enjoys the “one-liners” or “one-two punch” sentence……like the ones that Thompson and Huckabee gave when they questioned about the recent Iran-Speedboat incident.
Thompson said something referring to the terrorist having their Virgins and
Huckabee saying the next thing they’ll see is Hell. The audience ate it up BUT what does it mean??? What’s your point??? Where does that benefit us???
Thompson was VERY entertaining, I’ll give him that, he’s a very good actor. BUT where’s the BEEF???
Poor Huckabee people are ALWAYS misquoting him…
I’m going to write to Ron Paul and express my concerns in regards to him answering questions. I’m going to ask him to DUMB -DOWN his answers just enough so people finally GET IT! Then, hopefully, folks will be able to clearly see why there are so many Ron Paul supporters and why he is the maverick up on stage going up against his fellow-candidates and Fox News BOTH bullies
Ron Paul is really kicking it up a notch. He has been nothing but a gentleman thus far, but now it’s time for him to get stern.
He definitely won this debate, and I think if Fox had any shame whatsoever they would be embarrassed by it.
Before last night’s debate, I was really leaning toward Huckabee, though I wasn’t certain he had enough experience with foreign policy (or with anything).
Last night, Thompson shocked me by blowing Huck out of the water. Fred made me laugh and I lost respect for Huck. In my opinion, Huckabee was weak in his answers. Ron Paul…I disagree with, but at least he had the courage to state his views (and everybody seems to love him for it).
Romney impressed me the most. Listening to him answer the questions convinced me that he was the most intelligent and qualified candidate on the stage. He had the best grasp on the issues and very practical solutions for America. Though I would have liked to hear more of him, Romney won the debate and won my vote.
FRED THOMPSON WAS THE CLEAR WINNER. HE NOT ONLY SAY’S WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE, BUT GIVES A COURSE OF ACTION FOR DOING IT. HE DOES NOT WAIVER OR ADJUST HIS STANCE TO PLAY TO A CROWD. HIS EXPERIANCE AND KNOWLAGE OF WORLD AFFAIRS WILL SERVE HIM WELL AS COMMANDER IN CHIEF. AS FOR RON PAUL, BOTH RON AND HIS SUPPORTERS NEED TO LET THE PIPE COOL DOWN EVERY NOW AND THEN.
ABOUT FREDS VICTORY COMING TOO LATE, SOME CANDIDATES HAVE YET TO PLACE OR WIN A DEBATE. HE’S JUST GETTING STARTED.
Yes, indeed, I agree that it is hardly too little or too late for Fred Thompson. If you stop saying that and watch the “true conservative ” come forth, many may find that Fred Thompson is the man they were waiting for. Check all the issues. He is the genuine article and has the record to proove it.
Don’t sell Fred Thompson short. If your are looking for strength and leadership, this man has it. Let him tell you himself. Check out his stand on family values. Go to his website. If this is important to you, compare his record to the others and you will see he comes out way ahead of Huckabee.
Don’t let the media tell you how to vote. Make up your own mind. This man is as close to Reagan as they come. Take a long look at Fred. God bless him for standing up for our country at this time.
Where are the results from the Fox sanctioned text polls? They seem to be missing from your website….I bet you if Thompson won the poll (which he didn’t) you would have it on your election home page first article….
And what kind of “focus group” was that…WOW…you asked 2 questions “who thinks Thompson won the debate?” and “who thinks Ron Paul lost the debate?”….thats like flipping a coin and saying “Heads I win Tails you lose”…that is completely blatant and makes it look like you already know he will win your poll at the end of the night….Nice try though…and to cap it all off at the end of the night Hannity discredits the poll????? How does that make any sense…..
I am just struggling why they are pushing Thompson right now (watch focus group) he has had the worst primary so far with barely any votes….
Ron Paul was the clear winner even though 3 out of the 4 questions were made to make him look bad…..I think people are scared to admit that they are being stripped of their liberties and that we made a mistake by invading Iraq…Its time to put the pride aside and wake up to the fact that we are being enslaved by our Gov’t…..unless you are the one of the people on the Welfare State program…..
Think about it:
“Naturally, the common people don’t want war, but after all, it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.”
-Hermann Goering, Hitlers Reich-Marshall at the Nuremberg Trials after WWII
The Republican field consists of one genuine candidate for the “funny farm”, three “chameleons”, a maverick and one true conservative: Fred Thompson.
Ron Paul showed a firm grasp of constitutional theory that only works if we can role back history about 200 years; but it’s his lack of a grip on reality that makes him the candidate for the “funny farm”!
Rudy, Mitt & Mike, all likable guys, change policies as often as the wind changes direction, and frankly they worry me the most.
The maverick, John McCain, has his own battle to win in trying to win back the Evangelical Right before he can even think about having a chance to battle against the Democrat winner.
But the true conservative, Fred Thompson, is a man that tells it like it is…isn’t afraid to defend it, and is the one candidate that people can have a feeling of trust in knowing exactly where he stands and what we will get as the next President of the United States.
Thomson by far. I saw more strength there than any other candidate. And strength is what we need with a man who can deliver solutions and not be swayed by other elements than what is best for the country.
Romney’s good but really didn’t get much spotlight last night. All of his answers were good and sensible. But is it just what the people want to hear?
McCain. I’ve come to respect this man much more over the past few weeks. I think he’d also make a good strong leader and may be my second choice. He clarified some of his senate decisions last night I had in question regarding illegal immigration. This was re-affirmed after the debate as well.
Huckabee. I trust this man about as much as I can throw him. His words sound good and he’d make a great preacher. I’m a Christian but I think this man is riding the coat tail of Christianity to try to get a political office. To me, that’s a major no no.
Ron Paul. Kinda feel sorry for the guy. He has some good points in his own way, but I could never see him as President of the United States! All he showed last night were the problems but I never heard one reasonable realistic solution come from his mouth last night.
i think all of you who say Ron Paul are almost as crazy as he is. a man who wants to bring all of our troops home, ignore the rest of the world, do away with the FBI, CIA and Homeland Security is a nut. i like my freedom here and not having to worry about terrorist coming to get me since we are on the offensive after them outside of our country. our security and terrorism should be a priority.
Ron Paul won!
Following these races gives you almost as much insight into the reporters and moderators as it does into the candidates. I have for a long time found Carl Cameron’s bias for Mr. Huckabee almost as sad as Mr. Huckabee’s determination to play upon the religious prejudices of the Evangelicals/Babtists. His purported question on “electability” (women must submit to their husbands…) had nothing at all to do with electability–it was an obvious soft-ball set up for Huckabee to burnish his theological credentials in front of a Bible belt crowd. I’m sure Carl thought that was clever when he drafted it, but to me his in-bedness with Huckabee was obvious and sad.
I think that all of you who said Ron Paul as almost as nuts as he is. The man wants to pull all our troops home and get rid of all agencies that keep us safe. How could you put our freedom on the line like that? I like my freedom and not worrying about a terrorist coming to get me here because we’re on the offensive after them where they live. I think Ron Paul is nuts, and he loses every debate he’s in because most viewers think he’s nuts…vote for someone else so you don’t waste a vote.
SC Debate, After sleeping on it last night I feel Huckabee looked good as well as Thompson but Thompson’s attack on Huckabee didn’t go over well with my wife and I. It looked a bit like desperation. Huckabee hit a homerun when asked about the wives submit question, I think folks thought he’d be tripped up on that and he did really well and echoed our families thoughts on it. Romney communicated well but still has those nagging flip flops in his recent past. McCain didn’t know what facial expression to have…smile or not smile or look confused. Ron Paul…just plain confused. Guliani, he just is too liberal on social issues and not as conservative as others on fiscal ones. I think Huckabee had the best showing overall even though it was a close debate. #1 Huckabee #2 Thompson #3 Romney #4 Guliani #5 McCain #6 Ron Paul
Huckabee the best! Looks so presidential and so good for the symbol of America: the president of US. Ron Paul simply looks funny, shouldn’t represent US at all. McCain too casual looking, too old as well. Giuliani bad look. Romney too calculating. Fred is fine looking but rather slow, not sharp. So Huckabee the best is my conclusion!
RON PAUL 2008!
When I was younger, that is before I knew any better, my faith in our way of life was strong- even if it wasn’t placed on any solid foundation of fact or knowledge. I grew up with the idea that our government, and the American people were the greatest in the world. I was of the inclination that our political system was set up in such a way that it had the best interests of the people of this great country in mind. Never would I have imagined in my wildest dreams that the state of things would deteriorate into the condition that they are in today. More importantly however; I was certain that if anything did occur, and we took a turn for the worst, the American people would take a stand and do what had to be done to make things right again. Sadly this has not come to fruition. In fact it seems as though the majority of people, while not necessarily happy with the way things are going, are more than happy to go about their lives and do nothing about it. Apathy is truly the greatest cancer of our time.
We all know America was not always like this. Just think back to your history classes, the tales of great American patriots like: Paul Revere, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams and the like. This country and its tennents were written in the blood sweat and tears of people like this. When they saw that injustice was being done, they stood up and had their voices heard (if they didn’t we would still be an english territory most likely). They took action in the face of oppression. Our forefathers rose up to fight the most powerful nation in the world, and were victorious. These men were true patriots. They also had the foresight to draft a Constitution that gave us the tools to have the greatest quality of life, and the most liberty of anywhere else in the world. It was written in such a way that the power of this nation would lie in the hands of the many and not a powerful few. It was truly to “protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority”. Today our Constitution, the foundation of our way of life, is being trampled. We as a people seem to give our freedoms away like day old bread. Things like: the patriot act, our foreign policy, and all the bureaucracies that have been established, because of our acquiesence, are the antithesis of what this great document was written for.
I can not help but think of Thomas Jefferson, one of the main drafters of the constituion, when I discuss this matter. His ideas of what government should be were lightyears ahead of his time. Jefferson was vehemently opposed to a strong centralized government and large military, for he feared that this would lead to corruption. Jefferson was a champion of the rights of the states, as well as the separation of church and state. He was for neutrality and felt that the power of the United states should not lie in its army, but rather in its economy. He believed in free trade with all nations and was opposed to a central banking system saying, “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the american people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by defaltion, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.” However great these ideas were, and still are, they are now seen as radical and unrealistic. This is so because of the way we let the people in charge, the people who are supposed to look out for us, take power out of our hands and put it in the hands or special interest groups. Our greatest power, the power to elect officials has been reduced greatly over the years. Now our government puts people into power for us via bureaucracies like: The department of homeland security, the IRS, the department of education, the department of energy, the FDA, the ATF, and DEA to name a few. We never elected these people yet they are a very integral force in our current establishment. The most disheartening thing about this development is that even though we may not agree with what these agencies do, or their utility in general we still have to pay for them, and not only with our hard earned money. I believe Thomas Paine put it best when he said, “Public money ought to be touched with the most scrupulous conscientiousness of honor. It is not the produce of riches only, but of the hard earnings of labor and poverty. It is drawn even from the bitterness of want and misery. Not a beggar passes, or perishes in the streets, whose mite is not in that mass.”
You all have probably noticed that I have mentioned money in this essay on more than one occaision, it is for good reason. It is my stern contention that our government is using money to control us. I simply cannot put it any more eloquently than that. Everything that we do in our lives revolves around the pursuit and acquisition of wealth. Wealth has many forms, it can be cash, credit, goods, or services. We are hit over the head with this message in every facet of our lives. It is all around us and we do not even realizes it most of the time. We work 40 hour weeks, sometimes more. When we get our paycheck there is already money taken out by the federal and state governments as well as by medical insurance companies. In order to make the most money in this society we have to goto college in most cases, and learn a trade. In order to fund this venture the majority of us have to obtain student loans from the federal government, which we pay back with interest. It seems as though we have acrued so much debt before we are even a part of the workforce that we spend the first several years of our careers trying to escape the crushing pressure of the debt that has been heaped on top of us. Then there are the bills that are necessities such as: water, electric, gas, and telephone charges. We also need to buy food and clothes to survive. Since we all have to leave our parents one day we all will end up paying mortgagues, and property taxes, and possibly association fees. You cant live in an empty house so you buy furniture, computers, televisions, rugs, lights, bathroom fixtures etc. And as if we weren’t paying enough already both feduciarily as well as with our precious time, we also have to pay for things like cable, the internet and radio to distract us from our long laborious week. These luxuries are often the cause of us living beyond our means, and in order to compensate we have to work more hours. How much time then does that leave us to concern ourselves with what our government is doing? How many of us actually want to be bothered with exercising our already exhausted brains in matters of problems that we as a society are facing, both foreign and domestic? It is so much easier to sit back on our sofas and turn on our favorite sitcom or sporting event and “veg-out”. And that is precisely what the government is counting on us to do.
I am reminded of an episode of Family Guy (ironic I know) when I think of the american people today. In this particular episode Lois was running for mayor of her town and in order to gain funds she said that there was a terror plot by the legion of doom, who lived in the lake, to assisinate Jesus. The people became terrified and asked “how much money do you need before we can feel safe?!”. She blurted out “$100,000!”, and the people were all too happy to blindly comply with her ridiculous demand literally throwning money at her. I know that many of you may think that this is a gross exaggeration of what goes on today, but is it really? How much freedom did we give the government, after the tragedy of 9/11, to stomp all over the constitution, draft the patriot act, goto war without the approval of congress and construct the department of homeland security? How much money was spent then? I can assure you that it was well over a mere $100,000. It is actually more like a cumulative spenditure of more than 800 billion dollars! Of your money! Kind of hits home now does is not?
I know that we all want to be happy, but happieness does not come to you while you are sitting on your couch, listening to your i-pod, or texting on your sidekick. If we continue to be apathetic we are destined to trudge through life like a pack-mule with blinders on. Happieness is achieved through accomplishment. And we as Americans still have the opportunity to accomplish alot. This is an election year. Make your voices heard, educuate yourselves about the candidates, make wise decisions. Don’t just listen to the front-runners in the polls, branch out. Hear what every candidate has to say. Keep in mind what the foundation of this goverment is, personal liberty. See who truly speaks of this. Weed out the liars and panderers who are simply after power. Look for someone who will pick the constitution up, dust it off and put it back where it rightly belongs, in the minds and hearts of every American citizen, and every member of our government.
RON PAUL 2008!
The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow brave by reflection. ‘Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death. -Thomas Paine
The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government, and to protect its free expression should be our first object. – Thomas Jefferson
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. – Margaret Mead
Huckabee won definately!!! Thompson looked desperate.
I vote Ron Paul!!! Where has this guy been? Why has the news media not been focusing the spot light on him? I’m tired of hearing about Clinton, Obama and McCain, lets talk about RON PAUL for a change. He’s the only one who seems to actually care about the people in this country, and have our best interest at heart, and THAT is why I will vote Ron Paul!!!
Doug McVey, are you kidding? Didn’t you know that Carl is fast becoming Mike’s right hand man? That question was not a set up to make Huck look bad or give him a religious test– it was a set up/scam by the two of them to give Huck the forum to defend and elaborate his much criticized statement about wives. I actually liked his response too, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Huckster is dishonest and his stunts are all contrived to make him look the the ’shucks, I’m a good guy’ after dirty damage has been done. He’s a liberal whiner.
HOW can any Huckabee supporter say he is a FISCAL conservative???
That’s what is sad, people get their preference and they are BLIND. Stay open, suspend your preconceptions and do real research into each candidate and make an informed decision on what is best for the country– and unfortunately because of our terrible 2 party system, you HAVE to take into consideration who can win the presidency– for real. If the Democrats get into office it will speedily bring us closer to the end of our great country. This is a crucial election, be responsible.
Fox News is becoming an embarrassment to the educated. We report. You Decide. ? How about We Decide (what) We Report. I would suggest that you might want to re-evaluate. Your viewers are not the average American, but those that can and do think. We watch the debates, study the issues, and care about the future. We are the leaders in business and society and we vote. Your attempt at manipulation of the results is easily seen and do you really think the viewers and advertisers don’t? You guys have a good thing going, don’t screw it up by underestimating your viewers.
Ron Paul.
I’m alsowith Fred!He finally came alive and showed some passion about his conservative beliefs. Now thre my be some hope that conservatives can win this battle for the soul of the Republican Party against the pseudo-conservatives like Amnesty McCain,Abortion Rights Giuliani, and Populist Huckabee.Go Fred!
I know many of us here in the South take the matter of who we elect as President very seriously and it can be hard to cut through some of the lies we’re told by candidates and the media on a daily basis.
Of particular interest in regards to:
MIKE HUCKABEE
Spent $60,000/yr in taxpayers funds meant for mansion upkeep on personal items, such as boat repairs, etc
An audit at the end of his term failed to locate over $70k in furniture donated to the state, not to them, as they claimed. Was this ever located and where was it?
Did he actually cover up his son’s violent killing of a stray dog, while he was a Boy Scout Camp counselor? (Details in Newsweek)
Why is he refusing to release his past sermons, especially since he’s running on it? (Even Hillary was told to release her papers from time as First Lady, shouldn’t he be held to the same standards?)
His degree in Theology is actually a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. Something is wrong when a preacher with a degree in religion would be asking a REPORTER whether Mormons viewed Jesus and Satan as brothers, seems to me that he would’ve already known the answer to that one.
He stated that he *HAD* to follow the will of the people and increase taxes, because they’d voted for them? The increase wasn’t on the ballots and he’d signed off on the increase before that vote even took place.
He SUED the ethics commission TWICE, during the time he was being investigated on several ETHICS violations and found guilty on several of them?? He sued in order to change the rules over gift/money limits and only place limits on things that could be proven to be a bribe! (He gave cushy jobs to his big donors…where I’m from, they used to call that a BRIBE)
He agreed with a caller on Coulter show that the Supreme Court ruling about sodomy was right, when questioned about it; he blamed the caller for bad info. Fred Thompson admitted not knowing enough on drilling in the Everglades and promised to research it, only Fred Thompson then did something few politicians actually do; he kept his word, just as he’s always done.
He has no clue on foreign policy, but you should feel comforted that he DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express! He first told same joke last year on Imus, when questioned on his lack of foreign policy knowledge. Still no clue on subject, but it seems he would’ve found a new hotel by now!
He claimed that John Bolton had agreed to advise him, too bad he never told Mr. Bolton!
Brought Mexican Consulate to AR by giving $1/yr lease and lied about restrictions on his “amnesty” programs (scholarship and the in-state tuition bill he supported).
Wrote letter to Dumond in prison, stating he favored his parole. Parole board went from completely against it to 4-1 in favor of release after private meeting with Huckabee. He also rehired several of them!
He couldn’t remember having written his “bunker mentality” bit…strange, since he said the EXACT same thing at a speech he’d given earlier at CSIS!
He actually criticizes Fred Thompson’s anti-abortion stance, even though he had the same position as Thompson’s just last year before he ran for POTUS.
Spent $30,000 on ad against Romney, then supposedly has a change of heart and shows it to the press, knowing that they would air it for him at no further charge?
Chose advisors Ed Rollins and Dick Morris? His ethics must hold 2nd place to winning the Presidency.
He did manage to make Judicial Watch’s list of TOP 10 corrupt politicians, along with Clinton, Obama and Giuliani! Ever hear that story of a wolf in sheep’s clothing?
Please…do your own research, check for facts, records, etc…just don’t be content to let the media feed you lies to influence what candidate YOU choose to vote for! (my sisters were originally voting for Huckabee, until I finally begged them enough to look into his past for themselves….they looked into each candidate finally and are voting for FRED THOMPSON now!!!!! ) There’s no shortage of candidates saying this country needs…get ready for it, “change”…only Fred says what this country needs is a LEADER!!! Fred is that leader…don’t let the media tell you it’s too late to make your vote count for him…they haven’t gotten this election right yet!!!

Ron Paul was clearly the winner. He was show such great disrespect with the people actually laughing at him, and telling him he is unelectable. He showed grace and class through the whole event. The other candidates had to result to personal attacks because they can’t refute what he says. THE TRUTH! I always knew Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity were complete idiots, but it seems as though the rest of the staff of Fox news isn’t far off. They are just sarcastic and ill humored instead of loud and obnoxious. Ron Paul 2008.
I don’t think there was a clear winner, but Huckabee, McCain, and Thompson seemed to get the best of it. Giuliani and Romney are the losers, with Paul not even on the radar.
i thought mr. thompson was great. i have thought that from the beginning. If romney get the nomination i will vote for anyone else but him. he is so fake. if laughs that fake laugh one more time i am going to go crazy.
anyone but mitch and ron!
Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney won! I really loved Thompson for laying into Tax hike Huckabee, it’s good it know others are finally joining in…
It’s a shame people can’t see through Huckabee’s sermons, he never gives a clear answer. Instead he always turns back to his scripted sermons.
Wow! I have never seen such a blatant slant – I have NEVER texted to a TV show before, yet was so moved by Ron Paul – I had to. This man was so clearly under attack, and he stood his ground with concise and direct answers. Why did no one actually debate with him? The only response I ever saw to any of his straightforward answers was “that’s crazy”. Oh really? Nice debate tactic. How is the fact that a 3rd tier candidate winning the text poll not news? A little scary.
Who won, well that’s not as big a story as who lost.
Carl Cameron lost, Wow di you look bad tonight Campaign Carl. Ron Paul took you to task for that snide electability question. Which I believe you at the ‘Fair and Balanced” station edited out of the replay. Then Fmr Gov. Huckabee owned you with that pathetic loaded religous question.
Definite losers, Carl Cameron and Fox News. Your channel is hemmoraging credibility faster than you could ever hope to replace it.
Best of Luck, oh yeah ho’s the old stock market doing for you latetly..
HA
Mike won…Duh! I am truely dissappointed in Fox! Why do you only attack Mike on his faith and religion. Why not ask Romney more on his. Isn’t he a Morman? Don’t they have some pretty strange views themselves? I always thought Fox was the “fair” network. Always reporting the truth. Yeah right! I see so much spinning, and misconstruing going on that it makes me sick! Where are you getting these people for the focus groups? You have to be paying them or searching for the “right” people.
I watched this debate specifically to hear Dr. Paul since he actually got to be in it this time. the other candidates I have seen. but I was sadly disappointed that I came away not getting to hear him speak in anything but a defensive position. Carl’s questions to him were embarrassing, but not to Paul, as they were obviously intended. It is disgusting the way he was treated. and I would say the same thing if ANY of the candidates had received the same treatment. How about letting ALL the candidates speak to the issues and let the voters decide? isnt that what it says on the FOX homepage: we report, you decide? it was obvious to anyone watching last night that FOX had already decided for us. at least some of the others on the questioning panel pretended a bit. but not Carl. I’m surprised he didnt ask Dr. Paul if any of his supporters believe in UFOs.
the “debate” was a disgusting display for FOX. It will certainly be the last time I watch the network. as for Ron Paul, I like his ideas, and the fact that FOX doesnt like him now makes me support him even more. congratulations Carl and FOX, you had exactly the opposite effect from what you intended.
Fred was right on. I am so glad he took Huckabee to task and exposed his fiscal liberalism and his liberal positions on national security, defense and immigration. Huckabee makes his religion an issue, in a way others do not, so questioning him on it is fair-play.
Good for Rudy, also. He took McCain to task for his posturing on issues of national security. I would like to see more of that. I truly respect and appreciate war hero’s, but that is not enough. If it were, I would vote for my brother, but he doesn’t get my vote either.
Mitt laid too low. I don’t think she should retreat in his comparisons. He is right on when he does that. McCain and Huckabee have records they need to own up to. Mitt is tough in the face of criticism, I think he should hang tough.
Ron Paul held his own and forged ahead courageously. I think his message might be better received with a different messenger.
Ron Paul certainly had the strongest performance in this debate, but how can your viewers make that decision for themselves when you edit out his strongest responses when you replay the debate?
Mike Huckabee did exceptionally well. Guiliani also did well.
Text for Huckabee did not work last evening. Rec’d same error msg as posted by others.
R2 was not recognized. Check spelling ???
Maybe thats why Ron Paul appeared to do so well???

Thank you to FOX for hosting the most interesting debate in a while! I thought John McCain did well, and Fred seemed to be more awake, although it was only to be on the attack — continuing to not say anything about his vision for America. Rudy and Mitt were definitely in the background, and Ron Paul can’t say a sentence without mentioning Iraq or the dollar,(which are important issues, but he drives them into the ground, and turns off his listeners by his angry tirades.)
That said, it was easy for all 12 of us watching the debate to see that Mike Huckabee won it hands down. He answered the questions with ease, passion and conviction. He is fun to listen to, never boring, and you can tell that he’s telling the truth. The crowd loved him. And even when you threw a crazy question about his religious doctrine, Carl, he came away not looking like a fool, but like a president! The crowd absolutely loved his answer and we did, too. Check out what the Weekly Standard has to say about Huckabee last night — to give you a hint — “He looked very presidential…this guy will be hard to stop now!”
One suggestion for next time: Why don’t you ask Mitt Romney a little question about his Mormon doctrine? You might be in for a strange surprise!
Wahoo Fred!!!!
I believe anyone who is truly a conservative would want someone like Ron Paul as president. I believe that Ron Paul is the only one who speaks the truth.
Has anyone watched freedom to fascism?
FOX – YOUR POLLS ARE ABOUT AS CORRUPT AS YOUR FOCUS GROUP! Do you really expect the general public to believe that focus group was a randomly selected group of people? Your a joke! Your polls are set up just like every bit of news you lie about.
Ron Paul Supporter…
I am a woman, and a democrat, but I LOVE MIKE HUCKABEE! He was sharp, witty, and approachable in his responses. Forget Hillary and Obama, GO MIKE!
Carl Cameron’s question to Dr. Paul was an appropriate one. While Dr. Paul may have won a Congressional seat we all know he will not be the Republican nominee because he will not be elected. His major problem is his lack of knowledge when it comes to foreing policy. His answer to the question on handling the recent incident with Iran showed his inability in this area. Also, while the good doctor talks a good story on domestic issues he has not done any of it during his 14 years in Congress. Yes, he votes against this and that, all well and good but he has, to my knowledge, not initiated any of the things he is now proposing such as the elimination of the IRS something that makes for a good sound bite but will not pass in Congress because the pols use the taxes to contorl things. Want to end the IRS, introduce an Amendment to repeal the income tax and the popular election of Senators. That won’t happen either.
Winner of the debate, Fred Thompson
RON PAUL won the debate. He is the only on that speaks the facts! Everyone knows the truth, but they have no compassion for others, just themselves and thier $$$$$. RON PAUL for peace; justice; and the TRUTH about the corruption.
FRED WON!!!!!!!!!!
I AM SO TIRED OF HEARING PEOPLE SAY, FRED IS THE MAN, BUT, IT’S TOO LATE.
IT IS NEVER TOO LATE. MONEY IS TIGHT AND HAS TO BE USED CORRECTILY.
HIS RECORD AS A TRUE CONSERTATIVE IS THE ONLY ONE AT THE DEBATE.
I AM ALSO TIRED OF HEARING THAT HE DOESN’T WANT IT. THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL
IS A LONG, HARD , NO SLEEP OR REST JOB. IF HE DIDN’T WANT IT AND DIDN’T KNOW
THAT HE COULD MAKE A DIFFERECE, HE WOULDN’T BE RUNNING.
I AM A TENNESSE (OKLAHOMA TRANSPLANT) AND AM 110% FOR FRED THOMPSON.
The barrage of disproportionate comments and text votes from the Ron Paul whackos is getting pretty annoying. It was cute at first, because there’s only about 15 of them and they each comment with about 100 different aliases. And I’m sure it’s really fun for them to do it and then chat with each other about how they are being so michievious, however, I can’t wait until that lunatic throws in the towel and crawls back into his lonely hole with his few misguided supporters.
I thought Mitt Romney did the best, although I am not as familiar with him as I am with people like Guliani and McCain (which i am surprised they did not do better). Ron Paul was very easy to listen to and understand, I like how he is blunt and tells it like it is. I think that Huckabee placed last, although he wasnt bad, he just didnt do as well as the other 5. Just my opinion. Thanks!
Phil wrote, “All the Huckabee haters should give 10 min. to checking out where he stands on his website. Fair Tax. Pro-Life. Tough immigration policy.”
My repsonse: On my website, I’m 6′4″ and make Schwarzenegger look like a wimp. I wish single women were all as naive and blindly trusting as you’d like us to be.
“It’s on the Internet, so it must be true!”
Right now I would vote for Mitt, Rudy, Fred, or even Ron. McCain comes off as bitter and seems to “suck-up” to the left (which makes him popular with the dems.) and I dont know why but Huckabee just seems like a sinister guy at times when things dont go his way. I am interested to see who starts pulling ahead.
Mitt Romney all the way!! Though Thompson did have some great moments.
Ron Paul won the debate. How could you think Fred won, he doesn’t make sense at all, is it because he talks really slow?
Do the right thing.
http://www.Freeatlast2008.com
Ron Paul wins debate. Sean Hannity loses avid fan!
MIKE HUCKABEE took the scene!
As a Dem woman, I was blown away. He is great. Forget Hillary.
I did not see any candidate stand forth enough that would change my vote from Huckabee and his fair tax plan. The only thing that was positive was that Ron Paul did not win this debate and he was often rambling at times.
Ron Paul won despite your ridiculous questions about electability, and some of his supporters views. Did you ask any of the other candidates if they fall into line with everything their supporters voice opinions about? And to think the “winner” was not even allowed in your last debate. You and Mr. Hume should hang it up before the day comes that FOX is brought up on charges for election tampering.
I go with Mike Huckabee winning last night. He answered all questions with clear answers. I liked the couple of one liners he got in.
I can see the Ron Paul trained seals are here. Paul is two fries short of a Happy Meal and only proved last night what an idiot he is when he started rambling on like Capt Queeg about WWIII. Fortunately Britt Hume basically said “What the hell are you talking about” {Paul} “….ahh, I didn’t hear the question.” Give me a break!
Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and Rudy Gulianni where all excellent and any one would make a good President. Rudy especially, being a former US Attorney, is squeeky clean, FBI security clearance and therefore immune from the Clinton mud slinging spin machine. Rudy kicked the Mob’s butt and surely is the best one to kick Hillary’s butt seeing how the Clintons and the Mob are not all that different. The Clintons closely know 33 people who had mysterious deaths ie. Vince Foster. Does any one here know at least one person with an unexplained death? No, I didn’t think so.
WOW, Cameron, you got smoked by Ron Paul on your “can you win it” question.
Ron Paul made you look rather silly – you actually looked dumbfounded.
So I am going to say of course Ron Paul won the debate even though I am not voting for him.
I hope this makes it to the post!
It appears that a few dozen people are “stuffing” the text message boxes and flooding the Fox blogs in an attempt to convince people that Ron Paul is the guy. I truly understand why Libertarians and anti-war activists/isolationists are supporting Paul, but no objective person really believes that he won the debate. He comes across as extremely whiny and weak and many of his responses are only meant to inflame others. His understanding of foreign policy is interesting to say the least and at times (like Romney said), he appears to be reading from the scripts of foreign dictators. In his defense, the question about electability was poorly expressed and unfair, but he did a good job in responding to it. He should definitely be included in the debates for now, but I’m looking forward to the time when the field is narrowed to three.
Who won the debate? I didn’t see a clear winner, but I don’t think anyone hurt himself. Thompson had some good one-liners, but rambled on at other times. He also landed some strong blows against Huckabee, and Huckabee did a so-so job of responding. Gulliani needed a great debate, but didn’t do much to distinguish himself. Romney and McCain didn’t stand out, but McCain probably made the worst showing – especially early on when he struggled at answering the questions and rambled quite a bit.
Fred Thompson was entertaining, while Mitt Romney remained the most articulate and professional. McCain is so slow I can’t bear to hear him speak, Huckabee is a slimeball, and Rudy did fair. Ron paul was fantastic I thought, especially since he was the clear outlier on the stage. Nevertheless, if we’re going to beat the Dems, the Winning GOP Combo: ROMNEY/THOMPSON!!!!
Carl, you do a better job than anyone. But what were you thinking to ask only Huckabee about a religious question? That matter was only for Baptists in the convention. It didn’t even affect Methodists, Lutherans, etc. He did a great job answering your question. No one else was asked about their religious beliefs. Gov. Huckabee is running as a former Governor, not a preacher. Thanks
For me it was a toss-up between Romney and Paul. Until recently, I’ve disregarded Dr. Paul, but the more I listen to him, the more impressed I become. I will invest more time to better understand this man.
I would have to say Ron Paul won this debate… But I wish more voters would educate themselves on foreign policy, economics, and U.S. history. Those who do become rabid Paul supporters. Unfortunatley most Americans don’t care about politics and are swayed by candidates with witty one liners…. To the educated American Ron Paul won. It’s not even close.
The 911 question posed to Ron Paul during last nights debate was pathetic and irrelevant. Fox News, which I watch day in and day out, is really blowing it with this anti Ron Paul non sense they are engaged in.
Huckabee should be the next president.
To take Arkansas from 49th to 8th in the nation on education is oustanding. Factor in that it was done in a matter of 3 years is monumental. His political adversaries constantly attack him for raising taxes, but the state tax was disproportionate to the cost of living to begin with. You don’t get new schools for free. You don’t get qualified teachers with Master’s degrees in Education cheaply.
Huckabee is the only candidate that I observed that requires results for the money used. For another example, consider his comment concerning the Pakistani president. What other candidate wants to hold other countries accountable for the money we help them with? He called for a reckoning for how Pakistan spent OUR money and how they are going to START helping us. Again, he wants results for the money that is spent. He does not say what is politically expediet. He speaks his mind and will not apologize for his beliefs. That is what we need in our President.
He has the best record of taking something below average and making it better, exceptionally better. Ron Paul, Thompson, McCain, and Giuliani can’t say that.
WHEN I DECIDED TO WATCH THE DEBATE I STARTED OUT FOR ROMNEY. I HAVE TO SAY AFTER IT WAS ALL OVER I NEED TO HEAR MORE FROM HUCKABEE AND RON PAUL. I AM NOT SOLD ON RON PAUL. HE DIDN’T COME OFF AS PRESIDENTIAL TO ME. HE CAME OFF AS SCATTERED AND AT TIMES CONFUSED. HE DID MAKE SEVERAL GREAT POINTS. I WILL DO MY RESEARCH TO LEARN MORE OF HIM AND THE OTHERS. I THINK I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS AT THIS POINT. WE SHOULD ALL DO OUR PART TO RESEARCH THE FACTS AND ASK QUESTIONS. OUR CHILDRENS FUTURE DEPEND ON THIS.
I have followed politics my entire teen and adult life. The Reagan election is the first I really got involved in, although I was too young to vote. I have regularly listened to Sean H on the radio on KSFO in California. I am an undecided Republican voter looking for a reasonable condidate that I can support.
I watched the debate and the post debate program and was furious with the FOX coverage. Who do you think you are to disrespect any candidate? There is nothing wrong with asking a candidate if he believes he is electable; but the way the question was possed to Ron Paul shocked your audience and was offensive to me as a viewer.
The purpose of a debate is to air the ideas of the candidates. We build a party platform plank by plank, idea by idea. What is it about Ron Paul that scares you so much? While I have not yet decided if he can have my vote or not, I will be sending him money so that he can get his message out; because clearly you have decided to silence him.
Why wasn’t he given the same opportunity to speak to Hannity and Colmes after the debate that the other candidates had? I want to hear his opinions just as much as I want to hear the others. How else can I make an informed decision?
I am equally offended that you asked me for my opinion in a text poll and then failed to post the results. I will be sending you a bill for my text message. I expect to be re-embursed for the call on principle, since you decided to discredit the poll on the sole basis that you didn’t like the result.
I had come to believe that FOX was the real news channel; but last night you relegated your network to the same level as CNN. If this is your position I will find my news elsewhere.
Shame on FOX and shame on Hannity and Colmes for letting them use you this way.
M.Parker
Mitt Romeny won hands down. Thompson went Negative big time. Notice no Fox Blog on that, because Romeny didn’t do it. Further proof of the Fox anti-Romney bias. At least Mitt is getting a more balanced shake on CNN and MSNBC. I have been checking their coverage too to see if it was widespread bias or not. The problem is republicans don’t tune in to CNN and MSNBC. That may change as more folks get fed up with a news outlet that does not approach each candidate fairly and equally. Fox you skewered Mitt for his so called attacks on Huckster you should do the same for Thompson.
Romney pointed out that McaCain doesn’t get it when he says Jobs in Michigan are lost and aren’t coming back. Way to go Mcain tell one of the 50 states sorry bout you bad luck I ahte if for you. Mitt understands Jobs, Job creation and the economy much better than the other candidates. He has a Harvard MBA and put his knowledge to work turning around major corporations and the Olympics. Mit will fight to get Jobs back in Mi and everywhere else in this country. He understands the biggest issue is the unfair trade practices China employs and has peldged to change that once elected. I would not be suprised to find China backing the other candidates from afar to keep Mitt from winning. McCain took big hits on his immigration bill votes and now claims he gets it and will support a border fence. Isn’t that a flip-flop why is fox not calling him a flip-flopper?
Huckabee got called on his record and his only response was his tired, lame comment about catching flak because he is on target. You can catch flak because you are in the wrong position too and he certainly is on numerous issues. What worth noting is he did not/could not dispute the FACTS Sen Thompson brought up. I noticed a interesting article that shows how Huckabee admitted to working at paid speaking conventions for drug companies that support stem cell research and the market the morning after pill. His excuse was I did it to pay the bills. So let me get this straight he will sell out his Christian beliefs to pay the bills. He knew where he was speaking and what company he was speaking for, it is his responibility to make sure his values jive with his speaking engagments. I am tired of his I didn’t realize that company supported that comments. Surely he is not that clueless, if so then we don’t need him in charge of Nuclear weapons. See link above if interested in reading the article.
Oh by the way Mitt still has the most delegates and votes on the way to the presidancy and hi he wins MI and NV as expected he will have the most going into super tuesday. Guilani will probably win Florida and be in second or third place (depends on SC votes). Huckster will likely be in third and everyone else will drop out. Mitt is going to win the nomination despite the negative media bias because he has the right message and the right plan for america.
PILE UP!!!!
I Was watching the debate with my wife and noticed a trend early on, Mike Huckabee was asked very pointed questions and then Fred Thompson was allowed to trounce him some more. This looked like a set up, here is a 5th place candidate who has no chance of winning slinging some indefensible mud at Mike Huckabee while the moderator keeps asking question like:
“What is the Southern Baptist position you signed to afirm that a woman must be submissive to her husband? ” Oh my Gosh Carl! Your Face at the answer and then your stutter in starting your next question was beautiful!!!!!! I don’t know who set this thing up, but I suspect that the GOP leadership is trying to Pile up on Huckabee because they are afraid he will win. Huckabee is the best man with the best qualifications to lead this nation, GOP, all you did was make Mike look even better and Shame on you FOX News for being even a little a part of it. It did not seem fair, nor balanced and you are supposed to be at least that
M. E. Rosson

Fred Thompson won – WITHOUT A DOUBT.
Not because of his style, but because of his substance. He accurately portrayed Huckabee as the most liberal candidate running on the republican side. No matter how much Huckabee tries to smile, he can’t run away from his record of raising taxes in Arkansas, offering in-state tuition to illegal aliens and promoting big government.
And of course, McCain can’t run from his record either (voting against Bush Tax Cuts, blocking conservative judicial appointments and of course supporting AMNESTY for illegals. I truly believe that one has to judge McCain – NOT on what he is saying now, but what he actually did when it came time to support conservative causes.
It’s really sad that the declared front-runners are McCaian and Huckabee — two proven liberals.
I really hope the real conservatives in this party ignore the media and vote for real conservatives in this race.
Mike Huckabee did great! He proved to stay calm and answered the questions with great answers. Great job Mike! Go Mike Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[...] his followers, following the debate, by attempting to skew the text messaging polls and later the Fox News debate blog. Paul even admitted in the debate that many of his followers are hurting his campaign with their [...]
Without a doubt Fred Thompson carried this debate and showed Huckabee for what he really is, a Democrat in Republican clothes.
As for Ron Paul? Sorry all you Paul lovers, this guy is a nut and does not stand a chance in hell of winning the nomination.
Prediction – Ron Paul will not win a single state.
Mike Huckabee is the man. A big night for Mike Huckabee!
I can’t believe I am saying this…..Ron Paul won the debate. Next, Rudy, then Thompson.
McCain looked like he was about to explode on the stage, and he can’t answer a question with a cohesive answer.
I also thought the religious question against Huckabee was unfair. Not to mention the very demeaning questions put forth to Paul. Carl, you should be ashamed of yourself. Electable? He is a 10-term congressman. 9/11 conspiracies question? It had nothing to do with the question at hand. How they let you on that panel is beyond me.
Mike Huckabee won!
It is true that Ron Paul won the poll and got the most votes. Hannity can deny that all day long but it happened. The true issue is that Fox News ignored the poll results. There was a huge elephant in the room and Fox News ignored it completely. They did not once mention the results and went right ahead stating that Thompson had won (based on the focus group vote) in spite of the statistics that were rolling on the screen for everyone to see. They did not mention that Ron Paul had excluded himself from the post debate interviews until the very end of the program as an after thought, probably in reponse to viewer e-mails protesting his absence. They picked a clip that would make Paul look silly to show again. Britt Hume picked Paul to attack for his response (obviously did not understand what Paul was trying to say) when there was no lack of obfuscation from the other candidates that could have been pointed out.
Fairness and balance was notable for its absence.
Last night was the least fair and balanced debate I have ever seen on Fox. Shame on you Fox for letting your moderator be influenced by the GOP leadership who is afraid of Mike Huckabee. They should be, Fred Thompson is lazy, he played with his family all summer and then after Labor Day weekend in the tropics, joined the race. The questions were mean spirited to many of the candidates and were intended to make Mitt Romney and John McCain look better. Fred was slinging mud at Poor Gov Huckabee like a ditch digger and then that question by Carl Cameron….OH MY GOSH Carl, that religious quesiton was sooo uncalled for, nobody dares asks Romney a pologamy question or a Mormon quesiton, funny that the answer was so good, you were stuttering before you asked the next question…Mike Huckabee wins
Frank Luntz,
I see someone took a shot at Frank here. Quite honestly he is my favorite part after the debate. Is it a perfect science, maybe not. However it is more telling and dead on with a voters immediate reaction, before they listen to any media or outside opinions.
My only complaint? Give us more of Frank Luntz, he is excellent and fair & balanced. I don’t want to hear what the media thinks, I want to know what regular normal people think … the voters!
His group has correctly foresaw the upward trend of Huckabee, Fred Thompson’s good showing in the SC debate, Rudy’s down trend and disappointing run, plus many other very telling information.
I was upset when Frank didn’t have his group for the ABC debate in NH, because I thought that Romney was attacked by everyone and simply out performed them all. I would have loved to have heard from one of his group. He had one for the Dem side for that same night, but not for the Rep. side.
So Frank, “I WANT MORE OF YOU”!!! Just love when your on Foxnews!
Dr. Paul wins! I begrudge your petty attempt to cut down and minimalize the potency of Ron Paul’s platform with your seemingly pointless questions you saved just for him.
I found it interesting that when fox news left the debate for H&C, the “over to you” comment was “now to the SPIN ZONE” Gee, they finally got it right after beating up Ron Paul all night.
I was ashamed of Brit Hume for just the look on his face (angry? condescending? mean? when he tried to “steer” Ron Paul from Mr. Paul’s point. But was all sweet and nice to Rudy whom he didn’t seem to need to “steer” Shame on you Brit.
FoxNews….You know who won the debate!! You just don’t want to accept the fact that those looking for substance and someone who believes in the Constitution and governs accordingly, have found their man in Ron Paul. The debate was geared to humiliate Ron Paul and undermine his message. Hope people won’t be deceived by your tactics.
Romney without a doubt won the debate, but Thompson was a close second. Romney has my vote.
Fred was the clear winner and Ron Paul clearly the loser. Paul is absolutely laughable and would leave our country vulnerable to attack. It’s obvious he has a lot of little “groupies” out there standing next to their laptops and cell phones, ready to flood all blogs, etc. with their blind loyalty.
MIKE HUCKABEE didn’t win a debate, he just stood straighter and taller than anyone else there with his honest answers and pragmatic wisdom. His grasp of “nuts and bolts” leadership and communication skills enable him to govern not just legislate. Freddy broke the 11th commandment last night and he most definitely will pay for it in “spades”!!
I am not a Ron Paul supporter but I am sick of people treating him like an infant. I know some of his ideas are way out there but that doesn’t give people a license to treat him poorly. Carl’s question to him last night about his electability was in poor taste. Shame on you Carl.
I was shocked at how rude Sean Hannity was to Dr. Paul. I liked many of Paul’s ideas . His self-controll was impressive. Hannity is evil and nonprofessional.
I am a Mitt Romney supporter, so my opinion about this debate is already biased. I Obviously am going to say that Mitt Romney won the debate, and I think he did. But I do need to mention that I was very impressed with Ron Paul. Unfortunately most people follow main stream media and are ill-informed about candidates, let alone their policies. It is also unfortunate that the vast majority of people follow the main steam media. What I am getting at is that we have to play by the rules of main stream media to win anything. The best candidate to support is the one that will do the most good for our country AND has a shot at winning. Ron Paul is a huge threat to the Democrats and mis-informed that is why he is having such a struggle running with main stream candidates. Mitt Romney was able to put him self in the lime light early on so he has more main stream support. The only way to fix this country is to take it one step at a time. The all or nothing attitude is separating the republican party. It took this country some time to fall to where it is, and it will take some time to fix it. Trying to do it all in a 4 or even 8 yr term is more then anyone can chew. I think we should try, but remember we are playing by the ill-informed main-stream rules. And we will lose if we don’t in some way appeal to them. Romney for President! (Ron Paul for vice?)
It depends on how you define “winning.” Ron Paul obviously got his people fired up…so in that sense perhaps he won. However, at the same time he probably continued to create even more of a separation between himself and most voters. He has interesting and intelligent things to say on the issues in these debates, yet he always comes across as wreckless and bitter, and that’s not what most people are looking for in a president.
Huckabee continued his populist appeal. He, too, has intelligent answers on most issues. My problem with Huckabee is that he constantly seems to be doing nothing more than “giving the right answers.” I still find it hard to believe that he is firmly committed to the positions he takes. I fear that, if elected, he would change positions based on what is most appealing to the masses at the time. I just don’t trust that he has true politically or socially conservative convictions, and it seems that so many conservatives in America now are blind to this because of his conservative religious positions.
Romney and McCain bored me. Romney didn’t even seem to be a factor in the debate. McCain, we all know, is too liberal.
Last night’s winner: Fred Thompson. Why? Because he finally came out of his shell and showed America that he has some passion. He’s been criticized as being lazy and not really wanting to win, but last night he finally got a little fired up. Thompson is the most consistent conservative in the bunch. He has a “no nonsense” approach to the issues- similar to Paul but without the whining. He is intelligent. He is sincere. He is the most believable candidate in the race on either side.
first off who lost?
Huckabee- thompson got a major shot across the bow on him and called him what he is, a “liberal” in republican clothing. Second, he was caught “pandering” for money last nite. Anyone else catch that? You simply cannot use valuable time during debates to pander for money. Second, he NEVER completed his rebuttal and was marginal in attempting to explain away the “comparison” made by Thompson.
RP- says too much, too fast, very ineloquent, and confusing. while his ideals are laudable, his grasp of the “military” comes into question. The CO’s of said navy ships had every right considering the tactics of the iranian “attack craft” to blow them out of the water. They didn’t, but all supported their right to defend themselves except? You guessed it, Ron Paul. He’s out folks.
McCain- same ole, same ole. More of the same from him if elected.
Winners
Thompson- got a leg up. He brought some fire and did a pretty good job of stating his view, why he has it and how he’ll execute his plan if elected. Overall he did well
Romney- Well spoken, organized and targeted individuals when they went unconservative. The man has a FULL understanding of the economy, and trust me here folks, in short order, the “economy” will be the #1 issue, the #2 issue will be illegal immigration. The iraq war will fall to #3. Once he is “pegged” as the guy who UNDERSTANDS the economy, and this will happen soon enough, he will start to break out of the pack. No one, repeat, NO ONE in any race can hold a candle to this guy with respect to economic issues. He will break out on super tuesday.
Guilianni- just by being him, and handling some questions in a very civil / eloquent manner he stood out. You just got to like rudy. He has put his cards on the table, nothing to hide.
*Observation: I found it quite interesting during the LUTZ debate debrief that SC voters were concerned about some candidates “electability”? VERY VERY DANGEROUS way to select a candidate. IN 2004 WHO was the dems “electable” candidate? Kerry ring a bell, and where was he in NOV ‘04? Standing on the sideline.
Voters of all shapes, sizes and colors. WAKE UP. You cannot vote based on “electability”. You must vote your choice. Do you have a crystal ball? Can you tell the future? Without those, you simply cannot vote based on electability. NO ONE can foresee who your “electable” candidate’s opponent would be, WHY would you roll the dice? And besides, your “electable” candidate may get it now, but in two months when they fall off the campaign trail (Do you absolutely KNOW they can’t? Do you have a crystal ball?) where are you then? High and dry, your “true” candidate was booted a month ago, and your “electable” just got tossed.
Select who YOU believe is best for america, DO NOT be blown in the wind like a reed casting a meaningless vote. You get one only, make it count.
Fred Thompson’s time with Sean Hannity on the day of the debate really paid off. Did Hannity help him with that list?
Former Senator Thompson had a strong showing last night, but none of the candidates seem to have such a mastery of the topics as does Congressman Ron Paul. His response on the economic question made the others look like high schoolers, his foreign policy views were educated, sensible, and to the point, and his answer to the electability question solidified his dominance. After watching last night’s debate as objectively as possible, I am most certainly voting for Ron Paul.
Overall, the debate was good TV- far better than the Dem’s put out. Fred was awake and lively (about time!). McCain smooth and solid, someone who may be turned to when and if the others wear themselves thin as Huck seems to be doing and Romney and Giuliani have done. Ron Paul is loved in cyberspace, he is smart and sincere (reminds me of Ralph Nader in that way- strong intellect- did not like the way he answered Brit’s question on the Naval captain’s response to the Iranian speedboats but his other answers were strong, may turn out to be a real player in the general which looks like John vs. Hill to me at this moment with both (then) kissing up to the good doctor. ‘Time will tell’ and things can turn dramatitically on a single primary result as we saw in “04 w/ Kerry.
Only Ron Paul hurt himself in this debate. Giuliani was lackluster. Thompson seemed awake this time, but Huckabee came away unscathed when Thompson attacked him. It certainly was Thompson’s best debate. Huckabee again did well with the Thompson attack, and had a brilliant response to your religion question, and came out stronger on foreign policy/Iran. McCain always looks good when he talks about his Navy experience, and that probably overcome his blunder on global warming. Romney he didn’t do bad, but nothing really spectactular. He still hasn’t explained exactly how he will deport 12 million illegals though. It sounds tough, but doesn’t seem very practical.
On the Huckabee/Thompson exchange – I blogged here. I don’t feel Thompson painted an accurate picture, and it is a little distrubing that he go after Giuliani on his position on abortion & gay marriage, somewhat inconsistent there if he is truly concerned about somebody not being a “Reagan Republican”. Micheal Reagan even said on his show a couple of days ago that President Reagan raised taxes as Governor of California, so according to Club for Growth – he’d be liberal. We know that wasn’t the case, and it isn’t the case with Mike Huckabee.
I thought the debate was great, but I felt bad for the way that Ron Paul was treated. I don’t think he will be there to get my vote in the general election, but he won last nights debate for sure. It was like a bunch of “cool kids” poking fun at the “smart kid” in class up there, with them laughing at him and making fun of him. Other than the fact I don’t think Ron Paul would put any money into any special program whether its needed or not, he makes the most sense of all of them. He doesn’t sound like a robot that changes his view to make the voters happy.
As expected, the Ronbots were out in force early. After the children left, the adults had a substantive debate. Fred was the adult on stage last night. That’s because he’s thought things through well before he’s had to act. That leads to his calm demeanor. That’s what we need in the White House.
Ron Paul just looks and sounded like a joke. Anyone with common sense would see it. Mike Huckabee is simply the best qualified candidate in the debate. Fred is quite mean.
I believe they all spoke well last night and I haven’t heard a couple of them speak, like Romney and Huckabee, but I don’t think they would do what they say they will if they won office. Also, I know that Romney will not bring up religion if elected and I know he wouldn’t try to change my religion, but does it matter what religion they are??? Yes. I don’t think I would want an atheist or scientologist as our President and the more I read about Mormons, the more it sounds like Scientology, just weird. I read about Mountain Meadows Massacre that occurred in September of 1857 and it BLEW MY MIND. They people were nuts. Other than the fact Romney was born with a silver spoon, I don’t think I can look past what his people have done in the past, when he is representing a country that was founded on Christian beliefs.
Huckabee is the winner!
Ron Paul is a short haired hippie with no clue about Islamic Extremists and what they are capable of.
Thompson did well but I don’t think he has the Stamina to last
Mitt and Giuliani would not get my vote based on their pro-life stance, even though Romney says He is pro-life now he has supported Planned Parenthood which is also an abortion provider.
As God as my witness I will never watch any Fox programming ever again!!! This network is trying to single-handedly ruin prospects for who should be the next GOP Presidential candidate RON PAUL… your debates unfairly target him with negatitvity and your complete ignorance only makes you look bad because he can retort any bullshit you try to throw at him.. He won that debate despite your ridiculous questions aimed at picking him apart instead of allowing him to comment on the topics at hand.. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!!!!!!!
RON PAUL 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Despite Fox’s attempt to keep him out of a few questions, Ron Paul was the clear winner. He told us the truth, and has a plan to bring about some real good change.
Fox really looked bad in not giving Paul a fair shake, and if anything generated more votes for him just by showing the public how they need to censor or exclude him. It’s also not fair to exclude some of his strong responses during the re-airings of the debate. Tisk, Tisk.
Ron Paul won the debate. He was thinking on a much higher level than the other candidates.
After the results of the text-poll were announced with Ron Paul winning by a large margin , Sean Hannity said, “Ron Paul did not win the debate.”
What did Hannity mean ? Why did he say that ? Does he not trust Fox News ?
Alan Colmes announced Dr. Paul had 32%, Fred had 22% ,the Huckster was in the teens. The other candidates had low single digit numbers but Fox did NOT show them. Maybe they did not want to embarrass Rudy if he got 2%. I don’t know , but anyway, I can not find the text poll numbers anywhere on the Fox News website. No wonder so many of us Ron Paul kooks believe in conspiracy theories !
Fred spent his time attacking Huckabee and saying what he WOULD accomplish if he was in office. No mention of any record that could show us what he HAS accomplished in his current position.
John has a firm stance on national security but missed the point that there is more to being a president than knowing how to secure our borders. No mention of what he would do to help with jobs, taxes, health care. I think he would make a great secretary of defense because that is obviously his specialty. But as for president, he doesn’t have the entire package. If his debate has a primary focus of the military, why would we assume that focus will change once he gets into office?
Mike was cornered and attacked but held his ground well. He was comfortable in his own skin even though he was Fred’s target. Obviously Mike is a threat which makes me wonder why more people aren’t looking at WHY he is a threat. He isn’t in the top yet he is singled out to be knoked down. That tells me that He has something the people want and the other candidates know it.
Mitt seemed steady but rather unsure of himself. He was clear and articulate but lacked a sense of conviction.
Rudy made some excellent points but was another candidate who seemed to stick to National Security. Without a balanced president, we are going to end up with an economy that goes down the drain.
Ron…oh, poor Ron. I felt so embarrassed for him. He was obviously so caught up in how he would set himself apart from the other candidates that he wasn’t paying attention to what they were saying. I abhor the audience, however, for their rude behavior. No matter how off target a candidate might be in his argument, laughing at him is absolutely inexcusable. With that being said, I still hold my view that we cannot have a president that is more interested in arguing than dealing with the issues. He talked himself in circles and wouldn’t let go of the whole “heading towards world war III” thing. I wonder if he has ADD?
I choose Mike Huckabee as the clear winner. He showed integrity by not attacking his opponents. He showed dignity and poise by staying calm when being attacked. He showed intelligence by responding to the attacks with facts about his own documented record; and he showed character by answering the tough questions that he seemed to be the only one getting.
Mike Huckabee won the debate. No question. Thompson attempted to claim that he is Reagan’s rightful “heir” and that Huckabee isn’t. But Thompson is trying to rewrite history. He supported Gerald Ford in 1976 and Howard Baker in 1980 when they ran for the Republican nomination against Reagan. Jim Pinkerton and Ed Rollins worked for Ronald Reagan. They think Huckabee has more in common with Reagan than any other candidate in this race. So much so that both have gone to work for the Huckabee campaign.
Ron Paul is not a conservative – he’s an isolationist. But he did get one question I wish Fred had gotten but since he didn’t, here’s what I wish would have happened…
I’d really love it if Fred can address the naysayers that say – he’s was good but he’s too late – I wish he had gotten the viability question during last nights debate but in my dreams, Fred would have said:
Excuse me, but I’d like to answer that question myself about my campaign. After all, its been insinuated and even said ‘too little, too late’.
First of all, I wasn’t late, most everyone else was early – I liken it to selling Christmas Trees in July. I did the responsible thing. I evaluated the field of candidates – I looked at America’s challenges and opportunities, I saw the existing playing field wasn’t sticking to the true, conservative values that it should. But I also looked at the will of the people. Because I don’t waver the core of my beliefs. If I had thought for a moment that my core beliefs were not in line with the American people’s cries for conservativism, I would have said I’m not the man. Now maybe that means I’m not ambitious to some people, but I would disagree with that. I acted with frugality, respect and responsibility by waiting until the appropriate time (which incidentally used to be the traditional time to announce a candidacy).
Now, let’s say for the sake of arguement, that I did enter late, which I still maintain that I did not. How can now be too late to consider a better option. Only 3 states of our union have spoken. I came in 3rd in Iowa and 2nd in Wyoming, I don’t know about you but I think I have shown viability. It’s not too late to reexamine your choice and consider me among the viable. Read my positions, look at my track record and then you decide. Do not let the media decide for you by saying it’s too little too late. You’re smart people. I won’t mince words and I’ll probably make some of you in the media unhappy but here is some food for thought. It’s no secret that much of the the media is liberally biased. They want a democrat in the office or at the very least, a liberal/moderate republican. So who do you think they’ll ignore – the one person who can actually compete against the moderate and liberal candidates – A CONSERVATIVE. Read between the lines and observe what you don’t hear and who you don’t hear about in the main stream. Chances are, that’s the person who’s the true conservative and the biggest threat to their agenda. That’s me! If you haven’t voted yet, then you owe it to yourself and to this country to do your due diligence the way I did. Don’t look at the polls, don’t listen to the news, go out to our websites, stop us in the streets and find out the answers to your tough questions. If I’m not your guy then so be it, but if I am, then don’t let your pride determine that since you already backed one of us, you can’t change your mind. You haven’t voted yet!
Now, maybe he can’t say all of that but maybe he can say some of it?
Ron Paul was in a whole different debate than the other candidates. He’s far from presidential. He’s winey. I think he would grate on the every nerve of every foreign leader out there – or maybe not – since he wants to isolate the US from every other part of the globe. I almost felt sorry for Ron Paul last night.
Huckabee always seems to speak the best out of all of the Republican presidential candidates. Whether he actually knows what he’s talking about remains to be seen.
Online polls have proven to be such an accurate reflection of the voting public. Almost as good as the professional pollsters /sarcasm off
For what it’s worth (zip) I felt it was clear Fred carried the day; Huck’s one good point was insignificant compared to Fred’s double-barrel delivery on him. Mitt finished second; he was the best politician. Fred was first, being the most in command and presidential.
It looked like President Fred having dinner with his cabinet, smacking Hukabee to the kiddie table while everybody else tried to get odd Uncle Paul to go off to bed before he wet himself.
Dear Friends at Fox,
After setting up Mike Huckabee with the only religious question, why did you delete the question and answer from the reruns, after his courageous and complete answer?
Why was Fred Thompson’s attack from earlier included again at the time slot of Mike Huckabee’s question and answer?
We are so disappointed at the dishonest journalism displayed and the recent political bias shown. My husband and I have been faithful viewers for years and have trusted the “fair and balanced” reporting.
The Network Anchors and some Reporters, i.e. Sean, Bill O’Reilly, Carl, and Brit Hume, have clearly indicated a bias against Huckabee and a blatant push toward first Giuliani, then Romney, Thompson, and now McCain. Even Bloomberg looks good to many of you. In other words, anybody but Huckabee is acceptable.
What is the problem, guys? Under whose influence are you operating? Please tell us your reasoning!
Sincerely,
Beth
Like it or not people, Ron Paul still gets to the heart of the issues. He keeps his answers simple and to the point. He doesn’t waste time quibbling about minor details or engage in name-calling. By keeping the constitution in mind when making his decisions he does the whole country a favor by not compromising the ideals America was founded on to special interest.
Keep the fruits of our labor. The economy is quickly becoming the biggest issue and Ron Paul is an economist.
Keep the military at home for our protection. Leave your guns at home son, don’t take your guns to town, son.
Keep decision making at the most local level possible. Freedom and liberty is what America stands for. That means personal responsibility. We need to stop taking the route of dependency.
Hard work creates value and that’s an incentive in and of itself.
I think Fred did the best, McCain 2nd, Ron Paul had some great statements. Romney and Giuliani almost the same level at this debate. Mike Huckabee NO!!!!!!!!!! this is not a game and he does not know all the answers.
If Ron Paul was not targeted and bullied by Carl Cameron, he would have looked better. Tell your Carl Cameron he is making Fox loose viewers. Frankly, I am surprised that Fox has not come out and apologized for their unfair treatment and coverage of the Ron Paul bullying.
Be professional and treat every candidate fairly and quit targeting Ron Paul and bullying him in public. This really made me mad when Carl Cameron bullied Ron again and again. I thought Fox was supposed to be Fair and Balanced!!!!
A long time Viewer
Thompson won hands down…haha that is if you enjoy listening to a monotone fool who has talks down every candidate and proposes no solutions! He made absolutely no sense.
Ok, unlike Fox news I have to be fair and balanced…so Thompson made ONE GOOD POINT! But all the rest was pure babbling mumbo-jumbo monotone nonsense gibberish with a little bit of a Johnny Cash ring to it!.
Thompson is nothing but a cross between Johnny cash and Herman Munster!
RON PAUL WON! NUMBERS DON’T LIE…UNLESS YOU’RE HILLARY!
Thompson did very well for a change, but the attack on Huckabee stained the whole thing, but, then He’s playing to the same people that Huckabee is too…I think Huckabee won with His honesty, and I think Fred would have won less his false remarks…Huckabee inherited a lot of the problems he had, He did not create them…I like Fred, and would hope he keeps up his vigor in the oncoming debates, but I hope He does it withn the person that He really is,and hat I’ve come to respect
I had earlier chosed Mitt Romney. However, Ron Paul seems to have a lot of sharp, logical and has American in his best interest.
Ron Paul!!!! Ron Paul!!!! Ron Paul!!!!
Fred Won. His timing is excellent. It only takes a night to change many minds, and a whole week to work South Carolina is almost an unfair advantage for him.
I think the donations also agree that he won last night.
Fred Won Hands down . Ron Paul is stuck in the 1930’s. the rest of them were just there.
Ron Paul won. His answers made sense and the crowd agreed with him. He didn’t even need to throw mud to win either.
Carl Cameron is a genius. I think he has a thing for Ron Paul. He always gives him the toughest most insulting questions. Carl knows how gracious and intelligent Ron Paul is. He knows Ron Paul is head and shoulders above the pandering, posturing clone candidates.
Hey! I think this is GREAT!
Ever notice how the ‘nice’, fair, ‘professionally moderated’ debates are long forgotten? Do you remember Morgan State College, Baltimore? Or Values Voters Debate? See what I mean? Fox has given Ron Paul the BEST YouTube out of ALL candidates.
Anyone who has paid attention to recent national and world events would think that ten term, Congressman Ron Paul had a crystal ball.
For 30 years Dr. Paul has been the lone voice in our House of Representatives, predicting and warning us about the collapse of the US Dollar, chaos in foreign countries where we have meddled, exploding budgets, impaired national defense and a further errosion of our liberties here at home.
Ron Paul = Restoration of Constitutionally Restrained Government, Sound Money, Individual Liberty, Increased Individual Prosperity, A Strong, Competent Homeland Security and Balanced Trade with other countries.
Every other candidate, whether Republican or Democrat – without exception = more debilitating, national debt, higher taxes, bigger government, loss of American soveignty to other world powers, addition los s of personal privacy and freedom, weakened immigration policy, weaker national security and bigger trade deficits.
Congressman Ron Paul is the candidate of the People. But don’t take my word for it. Prove it to yourself. Go to YouTube com and just type any of these titles into the search box …. Guess who comes up first with millions of total views. Amazing!

When it comes to politicians, past performance is the best indicator of future behavior. Check their records and you’ll agree.
A brief look at Congressman Paul’s record and yo u’ll find;
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
Lobbyists carrying big bags of corporate cash don’t even bother to call on him. They know he is not for sale.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress.

Ron Paul is Rising
Wow Douglas Mcvey
Yes its true that Mike Huckabee performed very well in the debate and answered questions about releigion very well.
It case you didn’t notice the question about religion was very broad and not trying to make a mockery of his personal beliefs unlike the question you would like to ask Mitt Romney.
I have no problems with Mike Huckabee, but if most of his supporters are as ignorant and judgmental and biased as good old Doug then I would have serious reservations on which direction this country would go with those people in power
real classy doug
I was considering voting for Thompson a while back, but got disgusted with his cavalier, lackadaisical attitude about the whole thing and began looking around more in depth at the candidates who actually have some serious passion for our country.
I am strongly leaning toward voting for Huckabee, because despite all the garbage being thrown at him, I believe he is conservative where it matters most for our country & moderate enough to help bring our country back together from the terrible divisions that the establishment from both parties have sown so deeply. His ability to unite our country is precisely what makes him the most electable GOP candidate – because he has considerable cross party appeal.
I just have to say that last night’s debate certainly confirmed my decision against Thompson. If my candidate of choice sounded like Thompson did last night only by using crib notes (and what some are even going so far as to say may have been a bluetooth-type ear piece) – I would be too disgusted to even consider putting him in a position to represent our country to other governments!!! (Not that he would make it that far as the Independents would absolutely vote Democrat in November – no cross party appeal whatsoever)
With the negative, arrogant, sluggardly image that he has presented thus far to his own country, I shudder to think how he would be perceived by our allies, let alone our enemies – especially on the many occasions when he has to speak extemporaneously! If he can only manage the part when he has a script, he is not qualified for the role of president…
I don’t understand where all this support is coming from for Ron Paul. His answers were all pessimistic and he didn’t make much sense, just seemed to ramble. Chris hit him with an entirely valid question about his electability: do you have any? Truth be told, he doesn’t. He’s raised enough money, he’s gotten his message out, he’s campaigned, and the people have not turned to him. Either 92% of America is wrong, or Ron Paul’s message is flawed.
Huckabee was way off-base when he said he was the only candidate who gets attacked about religion or has to answer questions about his religion. He’s not the only one. You know who I’m talking about here.
I can’t say I felt very inspired by Rudy Giuliani, either.
McCain skated through this one, although every time he had something to say about the military, I agreed with him. He doesn’t second-guess the people who are in charge of individual situations (like the recent showdown with Iran in the Persian Gulf). The rest of his policies are not conservative.
Romney was spot-on. He gave clear, concise answers in the alloted time. I was impressed with how he consistently finished his answers every time the bell rang and didn’t go over like the rest of them. He actually answered the bloody questions.
Thompson also showed his true colors, especially when he didn’t let Huckabee get away with calling his own policies conservative and invoking the name of Reagan. That’s the Fred we know and love.
Overall I think Romney and Thompson did the best, but if I were to hand it to one of them, I’d say Thompson.
re: “who won?”
——-
gauging by fox’s demands that youtube pull all video of ron paul’s spot-on retort to your “electability” question, i’d say that you’ve answered your own question there cameron
Megan,
Whether Mike is right for the presidency or not,is for us to decide based on facts, some of which you, have wrong….Let me address just one,and let me do it with reference to a Book,or publication (Milton R Hunter, first council of seventy,The Gospel through the ages P. 15) “the appointment of Jesus to be the saviour of the world was contested by ONE OF THE OTHER SONS OF GOD—LUCIFER…This spirit brother of Jesus desperately tried to become the saviour of mankind”… Isaiah 43:10,11;44:6-8;45:5,6,18-22 Deuteronomy 6:4;32:39;and James2:19,all dispell this nonsense Point being, this is as false as the religion that would be represented in the whitehouse, and secondly I pointed this out, by taking your advise to research it for myself…Thirdly,I thought that you should know that with a little more research of your own,you might of avoided emulating the Romney perspective….What Huckabee said is in fact true,as stated out of their own Mormon Lierature…..Couple that up with the Hiring of Illegals, the fees that he imposed, that He said didn’t affect very many, when they actually affected every driver in the state of Mass.,and also the avenue He took to cut spending,by not paying the State workers, and refusing them their raises,so he could show what He and His followers call Fiscal responsibility…just thought you might be interested God Bless
Ken Goodyear,
Its time that people were told the truth, and I wish other Christian people would echo your statements….The last thing we need is what Romney has to offer….He’s a Bishop, and I’m afraid that if He is as devout as a Christian is that puts God first in His life be we’ll all be looking at having decisions made based on a religion of convenience
I am disgusted with FOX News for consistantly trying to sweep under the rug the message and the impact of the Ron Paul candidacy. I am even more ashamed of myself for having once believed that FOX News was “fair and balanced”.
There are really only 2 conservatives in this campaign–Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson.
I will be happy if either of them get the nomination.
For those of you who think Romney changes with the wind you need to look at the man’s actions. Actions are far better than words and he’s been consistent in his actions time and again. Check out this website that traces his actions throughout his career through his record, newspaper reports, and interviews: http://www.freerepublic.com/~unmarkedpackage
I was buying into the “he changes his mind” thing that the media put out there but then after reading the info on this site along with all the newspaper articles, interviews, etc. etc. I have to say that he’s been unfairly portrayed in the media. His actions have been extremely consistent.
For example here’s some info from the site–on abortion he vetoed 4 abortion-related bills that crossed his desk as Gov. of Massachusetts. He supported parental notification laws. He opposed anything that weakened parental involvement. His administration was also the first in MA to use federal abstinence education funds for classroom programs. He’s received praise from 8 different right to life groups and “Massachusetts Citizens for Life gave Governor Romney their 2007 Mullins Award for Outstanding Political Leadership recognizing him for consistently seeking to advance the pro-life cause while in office.”
To paint him as a “johnny come lately” to this issue is completely false. He’s not just speaking words to woo voters. He has an actual record to back him up. The same can be said on every other issue he’s been accused of “flipping” on. Research the website. Read for yourself.
Let’s compare that to John McCain. John McCain is a great patriot and would serve us well on the issue of national security. But beyond that he’s flipped and flopped like a fish on the beach. He opposed Bush’s tax cuts and “stands by that” but just recently said he would keep them in place–that it was important to to keep them in place. How can he say that? That’s talking out of both sides of his mouth. And immigration. He was for amnesty but now he’s against amnesty and says, “I heard the people. They want the border secured first.” How is it that he can suddenly say he heard the people now that he’s running for office and we should just believe it’s true? His actions show what he’s really about and his actions are frequently liberal–McCain/Feingold, anyone?
The idea that McCain’s his own man who says what he thinks just isn’t accurate. He says what is politically expedient to keep him in office which is how he’s remained a Senator all these years.
I agree that we need change in Washington–we need government spending and economic reform desperately. But McCain has never shown anything that would indicate that he’s the guy to do it. He’s had the opportunity all these years and has done nothing in that regard. He’s a one issue candidate only–national security. But the truth is we’re leveraged to the hilt with China and they can bring us to our knees far faster and more effectively than Al Qaeda can. Government spending IS as much a national security issue as the physical defense of our country is.
And don’t even get me started on Huckabee. That man’s actions be-lie his words on just about everything he’s now saying he supports with the exception of abortion. He’s a snake oil salesman in the grand tradition of Bill Clinton.
Vote Romney. Or vote Thompson. But please. Look at the actions of the people you’re voting for BEFORE you cast your vote. Listen to more than what they say or have said–listen to their actions.
Fred Thompson won the Debates hands down. Mccains Lied as usual about immigration: see http://www.numbersusa.com , his record proves he is Pro-ammenty, pro-illegal. He’ll secure the fence, as he is giving amnesty to every illegal here now and later. Huckabee is just as Fred Portrayed him
Mitt Romney our second choice, and Duncan hunter whom the Press igonres.
If Mccain or Hickabee gets the nomination we will have to vote independent or write in our candidate
Well Not Mr Amnesty Himself McCain, who want every thing for illegals but doesn’t vote for Veterans or Military benefits of any kind. And when he pushed on the Amnesty he tries to ignore or tap dance around the issue.
Huckabee seems to answer everything, with a sermon, a one line question asked he never answers, he tap dances around them with Sermons
Fred Thompson was surely the winner of this debate, Not to late, hey there are 48 more States to vote in a primary, Iowa didn’t count to me at all it wasn’t even a Real Primary. Mitt Romney has good experience running business , any one who can do that sucessfully and he has, is also a good candidate and I would vote for him as well.
No to pro-amnesty candidates like Mccain & Huckabee, Rudy ran a Santuary city, we don’t want a Santurary Coutntry like He and Mccain want
As I don’t have cable I didn’t see the debate. I wanted to see it. Was eagerly looking forward to it. But the executives at FOX decided I was better served by viewing “Name that Tune” (which I switched off).
PLEASE!
Can Mormons and Anti-Mormons alike please quit bickering over your doctrines and lets come together to elect a good candidate who has proven himself to be a conservative leader so that we don’t have Obama or Clinton calling the shots for our country! The conservative base needs BOTH OF YOU!
PLEASE! We need a person who will be a strong commander-in-chief; help us rise up as a clear leader in a global economy; stand strong for conservative values (”conservative values” not just your particular religious doctrines); stop the internal bleeding caused by our illegal immigration problem; and demonstrate impeccable morals and character? As far as I can see both Mitt and Mike are exceptionally GOOD , MORAL MEN. The lives they have lived have proven that. When I read the history of every religion I find shocking things that cause me to scratch my head, shrug my shoulders, BUT then I look at the overall good they have contributed to our society, and the historic details don’t matter to me. If you choose a president based on his/her religion – that’s your right – but that kind of thinking divides us as Americans!
PLEASE! Look at the ISSUES and do what is right for this country. I haven’t decided who is the best man for our country. I was most pleased to see Fred go to the heart of conservative issues during the last debate, and took Mike to task on his liberal positions, just as he took Mitt to task in another debate about changing his position on abortion. He was right to point these things out. He wins the CONSERVATIVE debate.
National security, illegal immigration, competing in a global economy, and the appointment of judges are the issues I believe are critical at this time in our history. PLEASE, look at the men, their positions and records. For me, based on those issues I choose either Fred or Mitt.
PATRIOTISM: My ancestors were French Huguenots who came to this continent in the 1600s to escape religious persecution. Some of their descendant served in the colonial militia. My ancestors have served in govt and fought in every war since the American Revolution. They were patriots who fought for freedom. Since that time there have been many good Protestants, Evangelicals, Mormons, Catholics, Jews, Native Americans (with their native religions), Buddhists and, yes, Muslims who have fought and died – and LIVED for our freedoms. Can we be all be patriots and show some respect for people as patriotic Americans, instead of dividing us by religion! PLEASE!
Fred set term limits on himself. Has a varied career. Subbed for Paul Harvey. Deeply involved in intelligence for his opinions..given without Fanfare. Dependable. Unassuming. My choice.
I’m in California and will be voting for Fred Thompson this weekend via absentee ballot.
I had been for Thompson for months but wasn’t sure he could win. And I fell for the “dirty trick” on election day in Iowa meant to depress his voter turnout. After this past debate, I’m certain he can win.
In 2,000, I sent McCain a donation and when he got to South Carolina he gave $20,000 to a bigwig with a racist background. Then, in 2004, I was researching John Kerry (who McCain referred to as his best friend in the Senate) and I came across facts that disturbed me: Together, McCain/Kerry shut down the search for MIA/POWs. Then, Kerry/McCain closed a billion dollar port deal with communist Vietnam that enriched John Kerry’s cousin. And there’s a picture online of John McCain in ecstatic embrace with a communist Vietnamese leader. I’ve seen him embrace Hillary and Obama — but never his wife. He’s an angry, arrogant and insulting (to Republican Senators and MIA wives) man, who seems to believe that Vietnam veterans who are Senators (he, Kerry, Max Cleland) are superior to those who came back and built admirable lives (the Swift Boat Veterans) without living high off the hog at the public trough.
Huckabee is witty, but I’ve heard his witticisms 3 or 4 times now and they get less funny as he goes on.
Huckabee left the Arkansas Republican Party in a shambles and “practiced management by news cycle” (John Fund’s WSJ oped on Huckabee has more).
Romney the Cyborg could never close the sale with me. He came closest last weekend when I finally saw him as a superb executive who might be able to shrink government (which made me think he might be a good VP choice) and then I heard that his reason for running is to fulfill the Mormon “white horse” LDS prophecy. Look it up online.
Thompson was drafted to run (so was George Washington)
I distrust those whose lust for power and glory makes them run.
I feel Mitt Rommney won. Once again he was clear, concise, poised and Presidential looking. His ideas seem to be everything my family is looking for.
I hope and pray he wins, I feel he would make a great president and one this country can be proud of.
The one thing I admire about him, he does promise us a rose garden and then not able to come through, which as far as I am concerned is what most other candidates promise. He contends he will try his hardest, and that is what we need. He seems like a strong in his conviction’s man.
For all of you who think Fred Thompson is the “true conservative” let me ask 2 questions:
1) Who voted for McCain-Feingold free speech reduction act? Hint: he used to be on Law and Order and was joined by just about every democrat.
2) Who voted for adding a $400 billion program (which a month later was over $500 billion and within a year was admitted to be a $1.2 TRILLION program) called the medicare prescription drug bill? This could also be known as the “biggest expansion in federal spending since the great society” act. Hint: he used to be on Law and Order.
Fred Thompson is the best of a bad group of 5 establishment politicians. He has ZERO interest in reducing the size and scope of our government, and just like the other “social conservatives” he will talk a good game and then do nothing about it. There is only one real conservative choice, and his name is Ron Paul!!!
Sandra Mendoza…Pleassse keep it on the ground. Biogotry is not needed here or anywhere even if you didn’t start it and only repeat it. All that hype about Romney is not true…and any reasonable person who has done any research into the man or the church knows that. There has been entirely too much biotry in this race…and I for one am really surprised that it surfaces after all these years. Many people…millions in this country and over ten million abroad…are LATTER DAY SAINTS…Mormon is a slang given to the members by nonmembers. There is nothing mystic about the belief and nothing to fear. They are Christians that teach from the King’s James Version of the Bible…and the Book of Mormon. They believe in Christ…HOWEVER< This is a political debate…and ALL of the candidates should be able to stand on their POLITICAL records…mud slinging against anyone’s religion takes us back to the witch hunt days of Salem and the tar and feathering of Nauvoo. Certainly our society has progressed past this…
TO ALL RON PAUL VOLUNTEERS WHO WERE WAITING ON THE WEBSITE TO SAY “RON WON”
Did you even watch the debate? Ron Paul is making a fool out of you… get up and stand up for your right to rational thinking. Here is why Ron is the meanest, worst republican out there
(1) George Bush picked up your votes by telling you about the terrorist threat! That was a REAL threat; even if it was a tad exaggerated for political use. RON IS USING IMAGINARY, NONEXISTENT THREATS TO FLEECE YOU.
(2) Think about it for a moment: Ron Paul believes in all those weird underground, Big Brother machinery working to screw the common man, the machinery that no one sees, hears or perceives. BUT RON PAUL DOES NOT BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION, A FACT THAT HAS BEEN PROVED SCIENTIFICALLY BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT BY DIRECT MEASUREMENTS SUCH AS CARBON DATING AND FOSSIL RECORDS.
(3) Ron Paul’s strategy is the meanest, most contemptible of all. He is playing to the ignorance of the general public on matters of state and the fact that the “little guy” somehow always feels that he can’t make millions because of “big business”. Big Business has made America great and going back to the 18th century will not solve anything.
It is now Saturday and I wonder if Carl has been able to remove the boot from his rear end that Dr. Paul inserted. Carl, you tried to make a fool of Dr. Paul but it turned out that you were the fool. You should try being a reporter instead of someones lap dog. Wake up pal, the party is over and now we have to pay the bills. America is broke. China and the Arabs are buying up Wall Street. The patient is dying and your playing games. This is no joke.
Fred Thompson definitely won last Thursday’s Republican Party debate. The rest of the candidates all said the same stupid crap as usual. Mr. Thompson was specific with his ideas of change for our government and is the only true conservative choice out there.
I don’t know why several people on here are endorsing Ron Paul. They are probably being paid by him to post comments. I thought he was the biggest joke on the stage. Even though I’m a native Texan, I would never vote for that lunatic.
Fred Thompson all the way.
Ron Paul!!! I am happy seeing astute people comment about the great merits of the ONLY candidate who speaks the truth from either party.
People wake up! Research, educate yourselves before you vote. You are about to elect another “status quo” president, that FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN etc. push on you day after day through their mental midgets who call themselves journalists…
If you are independently wealthy, you may not care, although you should, if you plan to live here in the future. I am concerned about all of us who have to work for a living, and support our families.
This is a bankprupt nation with trillions of dollars in debt. Don’t take the approach that a vote for Ron Paul is a wasted vote. It will be a wasted vote, if cast for any of the other candidates. Even if we don’t succeed now we will in the future. Do it, if you love this country.
Carl Cameron, Brit Hume and their likes know all of this but they are protecting their cushy jobs, bypassing the forest for the trees. Ron Paul challeges their conscience and this is why they are so upset.
Huckabee is the only one running who understands normal people in the real world, Thompson has spent to much time in Washington and way to much time in Hollywood. McCain’s been in Washington so long that people 30 years old don’t remember him any where else. Romney’s been rich all his life and cann’t understand what the average person goes thru. Rudy’s a nice guy but I will not vote for any one who thinks abortion is OK. Ron Paul is just crazy and needs to be in a rubber room. Huckabee is the only person running in both parties that understands me and you. Huckabee showed class in the debate something very few people have today and almost nobody in Washington. I think it’s time for a normal guy to be President after all those Washingtonians up there have no clue what’s going on out here. President Mike Huckabee sounds good to me.
I find it impossible to believe that Fox News just doesn’t get it. The American people (your viewers) can see right through you, your bias, unfair tactics, or better yet your manipulating the vote, turning down the microphone just seconds after asking Ron Paul a question. What a joke you’ve become!
It’s hard to believe that these were grown men running for president of the United States of America. Giggling and guffawing when another candidate is speaking. I have lost all respect for them.
John McCain, a man I once had respect for until I looked back into his record. He can “fix” the immigration problem can he? Why have you not, Mr. Arizona senator? The problems seem to originate in your front yard.
Mike Huckabee, good at one liners and down home zingers. What is your stand on foreign policy, and why didn’t you answer Fred when he asked you about the taxes you raised in your state among other things? And do you really think serious minded, educated American’s are impressed that an actor supports your candidacy?
And why when Congressman Paul is speaking does the camera always pan to the faces of the candidates instead of on the speaker? Could it be that you are amused at the boys giggling and smirking and you hope that will change or influence the viewers opinion?
Mitt did ok tonight, and he is right on with his policy on immigration. Stick to it Mitt.
As for those old timers on here who think that text messaging is only for the 20-ish crowd, and that’s the reason Ron Paul won the debate. You are clueless! My husband and I are decades removed from that crowd, and we know how to text. It’s easy, just have your kids show you once.
Hannity if you’re a Republican, I have a snowball for you.
As for me and my crowd, there is one man who can lead this country out of the mess it’s in. A man of principle and integrity with an impeccable voting record has a message for you. Listen to him when the boys are out of the room, you might learn something.
Ron Paul, win, lose or draw, you are an American statesman and a gentleman. God bless America we’re going to need it.
Willis,
I’m not sure why you’ve brought up Romney with me, as I support neither Romney nor Huckabee. I believe you’re addressing the following quote from my post?
“His degree in Theology is actually a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. Something is wrong when a preacher with a degree in religion would be asking a REPORTER whether Mormons viewed Jesus and Satan as brothers, seems to me that he would’ve already known the answer to that one.”
My statement was addressing the fact that Mike Huckabee, as a preacher and someone with a degree in religion, more than likely knew the answer to the Jesus/Satan being brothers question BEFORE he *asked* the reporter interviewing him whether it was true or not, stating to him that he really didn’t know. So perhaps it’s Huckabee himself that needs to get busy with his research?
His answer to any criticism of his record in Arkansas has been to launch personal attacks, rather than just answer why his statements about his record differ from his record. (like the metamucil comment in response to Fred the other day…I was also brought up in a Southern Baptist CHurch and we would NEVER have agreed with our pastor (SBC President twice) personally attacking anyone like that and would have expected him to address the issues that were in question instead.
http://www.blogsforfredthompson.com/open-letter-all-conservatives-evangelicals-and-homeschoolers
At this point I would vote for anyone but Huckabee. The guy speaks in platitudes. What really got me was when he said that he raised hope in Arkansas. He totally avoided answering any of his the accusations presented by Fred. Furthermore, you cannot measure hope. How does he feel comfortable saying the stuff that he says. By the way, if you’ve ever been to an evangelical church on Sunday you’d see a bunch of zombies jumping, running around, and speaking giberish and all the while preachers like Huckabee encourage this behavior and tell them this is Godly behavior. This Gomer Pyle look-alike in spite of all the dirt against him still gets the vote of the zombie evangelicals. It’s quite disturbing.
Shame on FoxNews and the major Republican candidates in the South Carolina debate! Carl and the candidates tried to demean and denigrate a U. S. Senator in front of millions of viewers. I am embarrassed for Sen. Paul and for the news station I watch faithfully. I am an uncommitted voter and am looking for points of view from the candidates on how our tragically pathetic administration and legislature in Washington can get back on a sound governing path. Like millions of Americans, I am sick to death of the bickering and bullying of our childish elected officials. This was the first time I had heard from Sen. Paul and wanted to hear his message.
Seems to me everyone involved with the debate was itching to bicker with and try to bully Ron Paul— which makes a case for each of the other candidates being “the same old, same old” inside the beltway crowd. Grown men giggling, making faces, talking over one of their political comrades— appalling behavior! Some of the things Ron said made good sense. And, I did notice that none of the other candidates challenged what he said, as they did for comments from each of the others.
I may not vote for Ron Paul, but he deserved better treatment than FoxNews gave him. I mean, really “Are you even electable, Senator?” from Carl??? How very rude! Carl and FoxNews should apologize to the senator. And, perhaps I should rethink my loyalty to a network that can show such obvious bias.
I was really disappointed about Senator McCain and his comments on muslims and bhurkas. The answer to Ron Paul was only polemic and showed once more that only Ron Paul has the credibility to become the next president of the USA. He is the only one who talks with truth and knowledge.

Wife of POW Navy Pilot, Who Had Husband’s Remains Sent Home By North Vietnamese in 1989, Was Lied to by U.S. Officials For Years About His Whereabouts And POW Status
Diane Van Renselaar says she still hasn’t gotten the truth about her husband from the military and lawmakers, including Sen. John McCain who she claims is ‘no friend’ of POW families and has backstabbed them every step of the way toward getting at the truth.

By Greg Szymanski
The remains of captured Navy pilot, Larry Van Renselaar, came home in a body bag, sent back by the North Vietnamese in 1989, after his wife put up a 20 year fight against a corrupt U.S. government, concealing her husband’s whereabouts as a POW for political expediency reasons.
Instead of telling Diane Van Rensaleer her husband was alive and in a slave labor camp, the lying contingent of morally irreprehensible politicians and military brass concealed his status, closing the official book on the pilot in 1978 even though credible CIA intelligence information revealed he was still alive in 1987, two years before he arrived home in a body bag.
“Larry was shot down on September 30, 1968. They closed his case in 1978. In fact, John McCain, who is a very dangerous and violent man, was the driving force behind closing all the POW files, classifying records in order to keep the truth from the families and the American people,” said Van Rensaleer this week from her home in Corte Madera, California.
“McCain is even more dangerous than Bush. I don’t want to see this man ever become President and that’s why I want this story out because he is one of the biggest liars in our government and, by no means, a friend of the POW families.
“After backstabbing all of us, hiding the truth about the POW story, I wish they would have kept him in a prison camp for life like so many others who didn’t have his military and political clout. If they lied to us about this, just think about the lies spread about 9/11 and the present-day war in Iraq?”
Van Renselaar’s story is just another in a growing number of cases, showing the deceit, deception and outright lies advanced by the Pentagon, Congress and the Executive towards POW family members seeking the truth about their loved ones,
The cold, hard facts, said Rensaleer’s wife, is the U.S. government has left thousands of prisoners left behind, telling family members they were “missing, presumed dead” when high-ranking scoundrel-Senators John Kerry and McCain continue to advance government lies started after World War II by then President Eisenhower.
Van Rensalaar, a leading activist for more than 30 years in bringing home POW’s who still may be alive in North Korea and Vietnam, started the search for the POW truth after her husband was taken prisoner, but over the years the story has grown wings larger than expected, revealing government corruption and lies at the highest levels, including Kerry, McCain, former President George H. Bush and many others.
Her long and difficult quest of searching for the truth has opened up so many cans of political worms, most high-ranking officials like McCain and “Daddy Bush” run and hide when they see her face in the halls of government.
Perhaps it’s guilt, knowing the real truth or wanting to save their political hides, but without question these high-ranking, two-faced politicians want nothing to do with the likes of Renselaar, once being on the board of directors of the National League of POW/MIA Families.
“In 1992, when George H. Bush was giving a political speech with many of the POW families gathered in a large hotel ballroom trying to get answers, I said straight to his face: ‘we can help you get elected if you just tell us the truth about the POW’s,’” said Van Renselaar, who added Bush basically ignored her request, but had his jaw drop to the floor when she mentioned the name of Lt. Col. William Atkins, a man who told her many sordid things about Bush, including his involvement with the Iran-Contra scandal when Col. Atkins acted as an intermediary between Bush and Oliver North.
“When I told him, again straight to his face, that ‘you know Col. Atkins briefed you about many things, including the truth of the POW’s,’ he look at me with wide-open eyes, saying nothing, but his jaw literally dropped to the floor.
“I talked to Col. Atkins many times about CIA files he had uncovered with Oliver North about John McCain, telling the real truth about McCain’s POW captivity. Also, Atkins told me he was a liaison between Bush and North, the pair traveling on Irish passports during Iran-Contra.
The Iran-Contra Affair, also known as “Irangate”, took place in the mid-1980s. A political scandal of wide-ranging proportions where President Ronald Reagan’s administration sold arms to Iran, an avowed enemy.
At the time, Americans were being held hostage by Islamic terrorists in Lebanon, and it was hoped that Iran would influence the terrorists to release the hostages. At the same time, Iran, which was in the midst of the Iran-Iraq War, could find few nations willing to supply it with weapons.
The U.S. diverted proceeds from the sale to the Contras, anti-Communist guerrillas engaged in an insurgency against the socialist, democratically elected Sandinista government of Nicaragua.
Both the sale of weapons and the funding of the Contras violated stated administration policy as well as legislation passed by the Democratic-controlled Congress, which had blocked further Contra funding.
Col. Atkins, who became a friend and close confident of Van Renselaar and other POW family members, was arrested in 1992 for his involvement in the Iran-Contra scandal, a twist of fate she said preventing him from testifying about the real truth about McCain and the POW lies advanced by lawmakers and the military.
“I know for a fact Sen. Bob Smith, who was trying to help us get at the truth in the Senate hearings on the POW issue, never got a chance to depose Col Atkins since he was arrested and then jailed for years over Iran-Contra,” said Van Renselaar, adding it “was very strange” how Atkins was left to rot in a District of Columbia jail system until at least 1999. “They didn’t want him to talk about a lot of things, but he talked to me about McCain’s CIA file and many things the senator wants kept from the American people.
“People need to know the truth about McCain. He sealed his own records, as well the records of all POW’s, so he could continue lying about his POW experience. He was never tortured, never in a dog-cell like the other prisoners and never deprived of food.
In fact, Col. Atkins, who died in 2001 of a cerebral hemorrhage, told Renselaar that when he and North acquired McCain’s CIA file it showed he was out of the system for at least two years, being in an eastern European country instead of being in solitary confinement in a Vietnam jail cell like he has told the public.
To verify Atkins’ claim, Van Renselaar said she has talked to several Vietnam POW’s in the same camp McCain was s held, including Larry Larson, who told her “without a doubt I didn’t see McCain for at least a year.”
Further, she added John Parcels, a former helicopter pilot, and his wife, Patty, who visited Vietnam after the war, said they were taken on a tour by the North Vietnamese, who showed-off with pride the ‘plush cell’ in which McCain was held as well as the memorial in his honor put up by the banks of Lake Hanoi.
“Why have the North Vietnamese honored him? What did McCain tell them and how was he really treated?” questioned Van Renselaar, adding Parcels said McCain’s prison cell was of a much higher standard then the other dog-cells prisoners were given.
“They gave him special treatment and it is documented he was even out of the country for two years instead of being in solitary confinement. He is lying about what happened and that is why he had his own POW records sealed for life. He was never tortured, never deprived of food and I’ve even learned he may even have fathered two children after having an affair with his Vietnamese nurse.
“According to my very credible Vietnamese contacts he had an affair with the sister of Nguyen Tan Thanh, a high-placed North Vietnamese official. Since they knew McCain was the son of A Navy Admiral, he was given a special nurse, Tan’s sister. I’ve been told he fathered two sons with her, one attending the University Of Colorado, Up until now, though, we haven’t been able to get their names.”
Besides what Renselaar calls McCain’s “pack of POW lies” about his real record of captivity, she recalls her husband saying McCain was not well-like by him or other pilots when they were under his direction before the Vietnam War when McCain was an operation’s officer at a Meridian, Miss., flight-training center.
“I remember my husband saying he was not well-liked and thought of as a hot dog and a punk,” said Van Renselaar. “And nothing has changed over the years. Once when POW families were outside his Senate office on Capital Hill demanding answers, he pushed his way through the crowd in a violent manner refusing to answer questions, almost knocking a POW supporter over in her wheel chair.”
And last week to keep Renselaar’s fight alive, as well as the entire POW issue, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) has now taken up the cause on Capital Hill to get the truth out about the thousands of living POW’s still incarcerated in political prisons around the world.
Last Friday, Rep. Paul held a press conference to revive the issue, officially sending to each legislator on Capital Hill a copy of an historic video called “Missing, Presumed Dead: The Search for American POW’s,” in an attempt to open new hearings, being introduced under House Resolution 123.
House Resolution 123 seeks to force Congress to investigate “all the unresolved matters relating to any United States personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam era, the Korean conflict, WW II, the Cold War missions and the Gulf Wars, including all issues regarding MIA’s and POW’s.
In a portion of the video, written and directed by Hollywood producer, Bill Dumas, former Sen. Bob Smith, pushed out of pubic life, said he was convinced from the evidence that there are many men still alive in political prison camps in both Korea and Vietnam.
“We should accept the evidence and move ahead to find these men,” Sen. Smith said in the documentary.

Fred won the debate hands down/ But Fox WAS WRONG NOT TO ADD DUNCAN HUNTER TO THE DEBATES, HE ,,FRED/ AND ROMNEY ARE THE BEST CANDIDATES,
JUST CHECK THEIR RECORDS: http://WWW.NUMBERSUSA.COM AND http://WWW.CONGRESS.ORG.
It’s amazing how soon people forgot that John McCain is as bad as Teddy Kennedy on immigration.
Sen. McCain took 37 percent of the New Hampshire Republican primary votes Tuesday, winning that state’s contest. Mitt Romney finished six points back, at 31 percent, in second place. McCain had shown poorly in Iowa. He tied for third place with Fred Thompson, each with just 13 percent. Romney finished second in Iowa, with 25 percent, while Mike Huckabee won 34 percent.
Take a quick trip down memory lane. Less than a year ago, Sen. McCain was one of the leaders crafting a “comprehensive” mass amnesty bill behind closed doors. He, along with Kennedy, Obama and Clinton, blocked every attempt to amend the bill with any measures to decrease the damage it would have done.
His pro-amnesty stance nearly tanked his presidential candidacy last summer and dried up his fundraising. And despite his denials, Sen. McCain has spoken openly in favor of amnesty repeatedly. And his position — even after last summer — still favors mass amnesty for virtually every illegal alien who is already in this country, as many as a 12 — 15 million of them.
McCain publicly embraced amnesty for years before it caused him to get his political head handed to him. “Amnesty has to be an important part because there are people who have lived in this country for 20, 30 or 40 years, who have raised children here and pay taxes here and are not citizens. That has to be a component of it,” he told a Tucson newspaper in 2003. “I think we can set up a program where amnesty is extended to a certain number of people who are eligible and at the same time make sure that we have some control over people who come in and out of this country…”
At the time of the 2006 debate of the Senate amnesty bill, McCain told a rally that illegal aliens have “grasped the lowest rung of our ladder. They want to rise, and we should let them. Let them come out of the shadows, pay a fine, stay employed, pay taxes, and earn their citizenship.”
Now, he says he’ll go along with some undefined border security measures, attempting to redefine words. But ultimately, he insists on radical legalization of most illegals.
He tried his “spin” at the YouTube debate: ” . . . [W]e never proposed amnesty.” He dissembled again in New Hampshire at Sunday’s debate: “I have never, ever supported amnesty and never will.”
McCain sets up a straw-man argument about either deport them all or legalize them all as the only two alternatives.
On May 30, McCain told FOX’s Bill O’Reilly, “You’ve got two choices here, Bill. You either round up and deport 12 million people and I know of no one who thinks that’s a good idea or practicable. Or you make sure that you do everything possible to make sure that they pay a very heavy price for having acted illegally and breaking our laws.”
In June, he told a Miami audience, “The most difficult problem is what to do about the twelve million or more undocumented workers who live and work here now. No critic of our bill has offered a serious proposal to round up all these millions, many of whom have children born in this country, and ship them back to their countries of origin. There is simply no practical way to do that, and most Americans understand that …”
Now, scrambling back, McCain says, “There are about 2 million people here illegally who have committed crimes; those people should be deported immediately. We can’t round up the other 10 million people and deport them all at once, so you are going to have to go step by step.” By “step by step,” he means legalize the vast majority of illegals, but start with some lame “enforcement” and kick out criminal aliens.
McCain remains coy on what enforcement measures he’d support. Judging by his bill, a few more border guards, some border fencing and a “virtual fence,” but little else. He told Vanity Fair, “I’ll build the goddamned fence if they want it.” Reuters quoted him at a recent New Hampshire meeting that he means by border security “walls in urban areas, through vehicle barriers, with cameras and sensors.”
All this is merely process — stuff and personnel — not results. Instead of building some fencing and hiring some agents, why not set goals of reducing illegal entry to a trickle? Or reducing the illegal population in four years by 75 percent through both removals and enforcement-driven attrition?
By any reasonable definition, McCain’s recipe constitutes amnesty. It allows nearly all illegal aliens to remain permanently in America. It lets them obtain a permanent resident visa and naturalize five years later. It rewards them with the job they came and stole, taxpayer-funded benefits and programs, tax credits, welfare and Social Security. It allows them to sponsor distant relatives and start their own migration chains.
The Senate bill, S. 1348, by McCain, Kennedy and Harry Reid included many loopholes and perpetually renewable Z visas for illegal aliens. The “background check” on an illegal had to be done in one business day, or else the government had to issue the amnesty visa. Flimsy “evidence” like a buddy’s “affidavit” would satisfy McCain in order to qualify someone for a Z visa. His bill gave illegals in-state tuition.
McCain’s bill allowed amnestees to renew a 4-year Z visa if they merely “attempt to gain an understanding of the English language.” That means “taking” (not passing) the naturalization test (whose standards of English acquisition are woefully inadequate). It also accepted getting “on a waiting list for English classes” (not taking or passing the course). Bottom line, amnestied aliens would remain deficient in English.
What about paying a “very heavy price?” McCain’s bill imposed just $1,000 as the penalty. There were up to $2,000 in various fees, but hardly enough to be regarded as much of a fine. Plus, the $1,000 didn’t have to be paid until after the meaningless “triggers” took effect. S. 1348 didn’t require payment of any back taxes; its last-ditch revision, S. 1639, added a tax requirement for getting a green card.
McCain rejects an attrition-through-enforcement strategy. He ultimately wants both mass legalization of illegal aliens and increases in legal immigration. He’d agree to deporting a couple million criminal aliens, but insists on letting the rest of the illegal population stay on.
In short, McCain has one of the worst grades of any Republican Senator concerning immigration. His overall career and recent Americans for Better Immigration grades are both Ds. On amnesty, he earns F. His congressional record on immigration ABI calls “abysmal.”
To build an immigration record that’s worse than Huckabee’s and even Giuliani’s takes some doing, but that’s what McCain has done. McCain’s record is more in line with Democrat candidates.
By contrast, Fred Thompson flat-out promises to veto any amnesty bill. At the YouTube debate, he said, “Yes. I will pledge that.” He then got specific on what enforcement means to him: “We’ve go to strengthen the border, we’ve got to enforce the border, we’ve got to punish the employers who will not obey the law, and we’ve go to eliminate sanctuary cities and say to sanctuary cities, ‘If you continue this, we’re going to cut off federal funding for you. You’re not going to do it with federal money.’”
The Atlanta newspaper quoted Thompson’s reasonable enforcement approach: “They set up a false choice — either we get giant busloads of people tomorrow, and round them all up, or we have to grant amnesty. Attrition by enforcement is what makes the most sense.”
Mitt Romney rejects amnesty, as well. His platform states, “Governor Romney opposes amnesty or any special path to citizenship for those here illegally. He opposed each version of the McCain-Kennedy legislation as the wrong approach and a form of amnesty. Amnesty did not work 20 years ago, and it will not work today.”
The Washington Post, as the Senate debated McCain’s amnesty bill last summer, reported: “Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney advocated a policy of attrition to deal with the more than 12 million immigrants who are in the United States illegally, insisting that they can be slowly repatriated simply by enforcing current law or changing provisions of a controversial bipartisan plan pending in the Senate.”
Any American who cares about immigration issues, who opposes amnesty, who favors common sense over appeasement of foreign lawbreakers should not consider McCain an ally.

I used to like FoxNews and Sean Hannity.
NEVER………NEVER…Will I watch this station again.
Might as well watch MSNBC,CBS, CNN…Fox Fair and Balanced I Don’t think so!
I will throw my book of Seans in the trash.
He’s more full of himself than O’Reilly and I didn’t think that was possible.
I know one thing Fox has lost a lot of viewers.
RON PAUL won the debate hands down. He is the only candidate in either party who actually understands our economy and from what I saw/heard in the debate the only sane candidate! Ron Paul made Fox look absolutely rediculous. Please, if you are educated or intelligent in any manner get out and vote for Ron Paul. Turn off your tv and do your own research on the issues. Think for yourself for crying out loud. Once again as I read the comment pages on politics the most informed and seemingly intelligent folks are Ron Paul supporters….. Obviously, he has my vote.
Ron Paul won the debate. “You can’t pay lip service to the Constitution and not obey it!” Classic line. He owned the stage with that one comment and explained how they don’t obey the Constitution. He just made the other candidates look like they blatantly don’t support the Constitutional or just as bad, don’t even understand it!!
Loved the booes for Romney and Carl Cameron–which were appropriate. Romney cried the whole evening and the debate before about being personally being attacked, but has no scruples in throwing his own attacks. And question… when were Fox Moderators part of the debate? Very interesting. Favorite line of the evening: “Let me see if I get this straight, we need to borrow 10 billion from China, then give it to Musharraf, a military dictator who overthrew an elected government, while we’re losing all these American lives promoting democracy in Iraq. What is going on here?” CLASSIC!!!
Other thoughts: I didn’t know that a trip to Israel would make Huckabee and Guiliani experts about Israel and foreign policy in regards to that country. Hmmm…. interesting. They both solified they know nothing about foreign politics. Ron Paul owned the stage again when he said that if they cared so much about Israel, then why are they arming their enemies? And in all fairness, Huckabee & Romney should not have to give religious tests (tonight the question for Huckabee)–something Ron Paul has continually said.
Who won? Job interviews and resume are such poor indicators of future performance. Al Gore is an articulate speaker- so what? If Ron Paul were to win and militarily pull out of hot spots in the middle east, WWIII follows. When Israel is unprotected by ‘Big Brother’, it will be attacked to be erased. Nukes probably fly, countries take sides and fight, and our “peace” candidates are scratching their heads from a bunker in Kansas. Peace is a by-product of conquest. It always has been. Read your history books. You want peace? Elect one of the candidates that will stand against those who want to rub us out. We (the U.S. libs) are the only ones talking about peace. The enemy talks about killing us, not making nice with us. This “peace” talk is only a sign of weakness to them. Think clearly. -Blake
Despite Carl Cameron’s best efforts to turn the debate into some kind of joke (your fox buddies laughing into live mic’s when asking a presidential candidate a question is very smooth, was noted, and I now discredit anything you report) Ron Paul won this debate hands down. I would say despite your tactics to make Ron Paul look foolish you did nothing but sway my opinion and vote to Ron. Watching the debate on Fox now causes me to flip off Fox News every chance I get especially if Carl Cameron or Hannity is flapping their jaw.
You’re both like the class jokesters, funny at first, but eventually just annoying and not to be paid any attention.

look at the real Mc cain
I’m still mad at FOX and ABC for not inviting my #1 candidate–DUNCAN HUNTER! WHAT’S UP WITH THAT FOX? Leaving any candidate out sways public opinion. That’s not fair and balanced; that’s media bias. Fox was on 24/7 here; no longer.
Much of the country is worried about the Globalist agenda, like selling our ports and highways to foreign nations like Dubai, outsourcing our jobs, and the Real ID Act. Other public discussions I’ve heard people are concerned about the Security and Prosperity Partnership and possibly losing their homes to eminent domain because of the planned I-35 and I-70 highways running with Mexican truckers. They aren’t nut-jobs; they read the news and want real information.
We need to hear what ALL candidates think about these issues. Or are these the gorillas in the room everyone must ignore?
You need to be more specific in your criteria as to “who won.”
If the criteria is who was the most logical? or
Who can get this nation back on track? or
Who in the hell can get us out of the sewer called the mid-east? or
Who can secure our borders?
Then like cream working its way to the top…..the answer has to be RON PAUL!
But…..we all know that tomorrow’s papers and TV probably will not even
mention his name. Why is the media afraid of this gentleman?
Something—perhaps the clip being removed from the re-airing of the debate?—tells me Ron Paul really got you with his response to your “electability… do you have any?” slam. Good for him.
And what’s with Duncan Hunter not appearing in this debate? I really wish news agencies would quit the horse-race betting, and focus on reporting where candidates stand on the issues. Stop trying to decide the election for us.
I mean really: if news agencies aren’t giving equal airtime to the candidates, then of course certain candidates will poll higher due to name recognition alone. A reputable reporter would be looking for the story “the other guys” haven’t covered, rather than giving the viewers reheated leftovers about the same 2 or 3 candidates.
