Ted Olson Endorses John McCain

The Endorsements keep rolling in.  First Rudy then Arnold, moderate Republicans both, endorsed McCain over the last two days. Now conservative former Solicitor General, Ted Olson announces he too will endorse John McCain.

This is an important endorsement for the Senator from Arizona who is viewed with suspicion by many conservatives. It may be the beginning of a slow acceptance by conservatives that McCain may become their nominee.

Olson endorsed him saying:

“I have long admired John McCain for his courage, character, and integrity,” said Mr. Olson. “He is the candidate best prepared to lead as commander in chief from day one. John McCain has a deep-rooted conservative philosophy and I trust him to appoint strict constructionists, like Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Scalia, Thomas and Alito, to judicial positions.”

John McCain thanked Mr. Olson for his support, stating, “Ted Olson is among our nation’s most distinguished experts on the rule of law. I am honored to have his support, and I look forward to his counsel and leadership on judicial issues.”

Meanwhile Mitt Romney’s campaign was quick to announce that former Senator Santorum was going to endorse him!

It’s time right now to do everything we can to get MITT ROMNEY nominated to challenge the extreme liberals. Romney’s the only candidate who offers grassroots America any hope of taking Washington back for the people.

Old boy McCain is a liberal, and Huckabee, good man that he is, is nationally unelectable. He has been painted into a corner that represents only a certain group of people, some of them not seeming to understand the constitutional need for separation of church and state.

It’s good to be true to our cherished religious doctrinal beliefs, but that’s not what American elections are about.

It’s sad, in my opinion, that so many possibly well-meaning Huckabee supporters have done so much to harm him and their church with their vile irrational uninformed attacks on the church Romney has freely chosen to affiliate with. All they have succeeded in doing is to convince others that Mike Huckabee represents only a very small portion of Americans.

Don’t forget that it’s the TERRORISTS who are trying to force everyone to live under a specific brand of religion! Freedom of religion and tolerance for the religious beliefs of others need to reign supreme in this nation.

To be true to what’s best for good-living American families, Huckabee should immediately withdraw and endorse Romney instead of watering down the votes against McCain and thus guaranteeing a liberal government that does not change Washington other than to move it even further to the godless left.

A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain and the liberal establishment.

It is my hope that Huckabee supporters will understand that and will insist that Huckabee do the right thing for grassroots America.

I guess the same could be said for Ron Paul. But regardless of the merit of his arguments, Paul is obviously even less electable than Mike Huckabee. We need to combine our strengths. The extreme left wing liberals are very strong because they pretty much control the media and institutions of learning.

Study it out and you will probably agree that only Mitt Romney offers any real hope of successfully challenging the liberal establishment and the broken scratch my back compromise Washington way of doing business.

America is at a crossroads right now. Each vote is very important and needs to be carefully considered. The Democratic party has moved very far left and cannot keep our country safe against the international terrorists or arrogant godless judges. The extreme left ACLU/Moveon people who control today’s Democratic Party need to be effectively challenged and put in their place this November. Hopefully it won’t mean the end of the party, just a very strong vote for the Republican candidate as a heads-up to Democratic leaders that they are NOT representing THE PEOPLE anymore!

I think a Romney/Thompson ticket would appeal to the grassroots and could swing many former Democrats to vote against the way their party has veered so far to the extreme left.

Vote Mitt Romney for President.

For good-living honest people and our children, he’s our best and only hope…

Carl glowingly reports another McCain endorsement, then ends his article with:

“Meanwhile Mitt Romney’s campaign was quick to announce that former Senator Santorum was going to endorse him!”

Carl, we know you’re hugely biased for McCain and anti-Romney, but come on, that exclamation mark at the end of your concluding sentence that downplays Santorum and Romney as opposed to Olson and McCain turns it into a snide editorial comment, not the news you’re supposed to be reporting as a “fair and balanced” Fox News field reporter!

The truth is conservatives know that old boy McCain is a liberal. And many believe that Huckabee, good man that he is, is nationally unelectable.

Huckabee has been painted into a corner that represents only a certain group of people, some of them not seeming to understand the constitutional need for separation of church and state.

My biggest problem with the endorsement from conservatives is I believe they all would respond like Kemp did on Hannity and Colmes where he said numerous times “I don’t agree with John on that issue” as Sean was stating liberal issues that McCain was supporting, but then would just say “I think John is a good guy and I support him. Very unfounded support and willing to turn a blind eye to so many liberal stances by McCain. Really sad.

We’ll hope that the conservative base sees right through this and takes him to the woodshed on Super Tuesday.

Go Romney!!!!

Democrats want the illegals to stay because they are going to vote for them someday;
Republican establishments want the illegals to stay because of cheap labor for the corporations.

The window of addressing this issue is closing fast, because SOON anyone dare to do so will certainly lose an election.
Look at Florida’s primary and it should give you some hint: Hispanics overwhelmingly voted for McOpenborder.

Washington can’t be trusted. Please vote for the most capable outsider candidate Mitt Romney!

To the true conservatives Americans: this is your last chance!!

Romney is a fraud. I lived in Mass. when he was Governor and I can tell you honestly, he was a TOTALLY DIFFERENT person 5 years ago than he is now. Ask anyone who lived in Mass. while he was governor. He presented himself as a moderate/liberal. He now is pretending to be a Reagan conservative in order to get the nomination, but most intelligent people aren’t buying it. He is a total phony.

Well all the available data seems to contradict your conclusion. According to the exit polls (not what people think WILL happen but what HAS happened) Romney is not being embraced by Independents, moderates, or liberals AT ALL. In fact just the opposite he is being rejected en masse. It’s quite clear in fact that if Romney were to win the nomination he would get support from only the GOP hard liners and everyone else would support the Democrats overwhelmingly. This isn’t just my opinion, this is what the exit polls are very clearly showing. The anger with Bush right now is such that anyone who is perceived as a ultra-conservative (as Romney is perceived) will be rejected by the critical Independent and moderate voting blocks. The writing is on the wall here, brother. The time of the ultra-conservatives is over for several years. It will cycle through and come back as all things do but it’s not going to be for a while. The reality is that conservatives are going to have to make a choice between a moderate in McCain and an extreme liberal in Obama or Clinton. Personally, I simply don’t understand those conservatives who say they would rather vote for Hillary than McCain. To me that’s like saying “I don’t want to swallow rat poison so instead I’ll swallow cyanide”. It makes absolutely no sense.

If the nomination goes to McCain, conservatives will be without a candidate.

Dear Romney, Paul and Huckabee supporters,

We don’t like McCain and obviously the media does. They are purposefully withholding relevant information from the public. For example, John McCain has cancer, specifically melanoma, which is a very aggressive form of cancer. You can’t ignore that with a candidate that would be 76 before leaving office!

Few Americans know that McCain cheated on his first wife with a woman 17 years younger than himself. People like him because they feel he has integrity, but they don’t know the entire story.

I’m sure this will all come out, AFTER McCain gets the nomination. We can’t wait until then. Spread the word now!

Comment by James

McCain a liberal? Are you serious? McCain is an American Hero! 5+ years in a POW camp. He can’t raise his arms above the shoulder because both were broken and he didn’t exactly get medical treatment while in a POW camp. After that he continued serving his country as he has every day of his life since he was 17 years old.

McCain is a Fiscal Conservative. Check your facts. So he didn’t want to pass Bush’s Tax Cuts the first time around – that’s because they didn’t inculde any spending cuts = which equates to DEFICIT spending. Cutting revenues without cutting costs = deficit. McCain had the courage to stand up and say something and he is on the record about it. Its his 4th term in the Senate, you can look up his consistent conservative record on any subject you desire.

Romney’s problem is he is way too Right Wing. Its an issue of electability for most people. Not to mention Romney wants a Constitutional Amendment to ban Gay Marriage – who the frak cares about Gay Marriage. Is being a homophobe somehow a requirement to be conservative? Who cares what 1 or more consenting adults choose to do in private. Seriously, is that really an issue Romney should promote in the debates (I DVR all of them, and yes he has mentioned that more than once as part of his ‘conservative’ credentials).

On the conservative credentials, Romney decided to join the NRA last year. That was clearly a political move, rather than representing a long held belief in gun rights. Similarly he changed his position on Abortion – yes, his public record on it. That’s because he catered to Mass liberals and then when trying to ‘crusade’ as a Republican Pres candidate he needed to have it differen.t

I also see Gun Rights & Abortion as 2 totally different issues. On the 1 hand Gun Rights is a Constitutional question, clearly allowed by the 2nd Amendment and therefore its always been fundamental to this country. Abortion is more of a religious issue. People who are very religious often see abortion as a crime (murder) whereas the less religious see it as personal freedom. As a man, I really don’t have any say since I’ll never have an abortion myself (I’ve never been a part of one either). To me its a relative non-issue. I understand there are many who are deeply troubled by it, but is it really a major issue?

The War in Iraq, Economy, Global Warming – these are the major issues. On these McCain has a stronger track record. The Surge was McCain’s idea and quite frankly he was one of the only Republicans speaking out on the record against the initial Rumsfeld strategy. McCain chaired the Commerce Committe for something like 15 years. Yes, US Commerce Committe deals with much larger numbers than even the largest of hedge funds. And Romney was born rich, which if you’re born rich its much easier to earn a lot of money. Finally, McCain has been on the side of the Environment even before it was popular to mention Global Warming. Really, to me, being conservative means low taxes, small government, strong Defense, and fantastic Economy. McCain is my candidate of choice.

Mitt Romney nor John McCain are conservatives! The only REAL conservative is Ron Paul.
Hel was the top GOP fundraiser in the 4th quarter. He is running ads all over the country and he doesn’t have to borrow money to do it. His frugal, debt free, campaign is an indicator of how well he would do with our country’s budget. Of course, yet again, the mainstream media blacks him out. What are they trying to hide from the American people? When they do cover him, they try to marginalize him. Find out the truth. Check him out for yourself at http://www.ronpaul2008.com Vote for the only REAL Conservative in the Republican race.

Will McCain make a POW out of the USA?

How many more sons and daughters is McCain willing to sacrifice to preserve Bushs war legacy? Will McCain surrender the border to Mexico with his Open Border views? Will McCain surrender your wallet to give entitlements out to illegal aliens? Will McCain surrender Roe vs. Wade to the liberal lobbyist and partial birth advocates? Will McCain surrender your First Amendment rights?

Will you surrender your vote to McCain on Super Tuesday?

If your vote is led around and manipulated by “endorsements” and “polls” then you, whoever you are, are the reason that Washington is broken. Because you lack the self confidence to make up your own mind and stand up to your convictions. You are a battered voter. And you are fodder to good old boys coalitions that stand up for each other and their agendas.

Polls are the opinion of appx 500 to 900 people randomly picked to tell you who THEY are going to vote for. The results of these polls can be manipulated by the mere fact that different parts of the country consistently vote the same. At no time do the Polls tell you where they took these polls or what time of the day.

POLLS are like HOROSCOPES. If you have been staying home from voting because you read a poll that said your candidate had no chance of winning…if you have changed your vote to another candidate because some poll you read said that candidate would win…then YOU and your actions guaranteed that poll would be corrrect. You have made it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Only if you develop your own convictions and only if you act on those convictions will you truly know if you are in the majority or the minority. Are you afraid to find out?

The THIRD PLACE CANDIDATE in any primary…the third person in any November election splits the vote…period. If you are voting for Huckabee, you are sitting on a fence. At some time you had better jump off on one side or the other because you are only a spectator and the race is gonna pass you by. One of those two front runners is gonna win. And in a primary if your candidate does not win…those delegates are up for garbs thrown into the air to land where you might not want them to land.

This is a great country and men and women have fought and died for your free agency to vote for YOUR convictions and YOUR beliefs. Only when you do will these brave people not have died in vain.

“Will McCain surrender the border with his Open Border views?” Are you ignorant? McCain comes from a border state – you know where people cross to get a chance to work at Romney’s Sanctuary Mansion.

The borders are broken. McCain was willing to reach across the aisle and work with Dems to try to get legislation through that will change the current situation. We know this, the status quo isn’t working. We need change. I think most people would agree that Bush is a Republican who serves the Republican base. He supported the Immigration bill, it just didn’t make it through Congress.

Does Romney have a better idea? Seriously, he said he would round up 12million illegals in the US and deport them in 90 days? Wow – does he have the military background to make that happen? The Border Patrol can’t do it. Heck, its the Border Patrol’s job to keep them out and they can’t do that (they’re a bit understaffed and in my opinion, in need of a fence).

McCain worked to come up with a bi-partisan solution. So its not ‘perfect’ from a die hard Republican standpoint. Hey, it isn’t ‘perfect’ to the Dems either. Its a compromise that is far superior to the status quo. McCain has listened to the people – we say secure the border first so that’s what he’ll work on first. But in the end, you need a system to deal with the people who are already here. The wait to become a citizen under the plan is very long, something like 12 years minimum. In the mean time, you have to sign up, and start paying taxes. Sweet, just found an additional source of revenue.

Illegals are generally hard working – they’re here in the land of opportunity to get a job. If there are no jobs, they won’t come here. That’s the beauty of the plan, punish employers who hire illegals. They’ll stop hiring illegals and then they won’t come. A guest worker program will allow them to hire legally documented guest workers. That sounds like the right solution because its based on sound economic principles.

Comment by James

Debate – there is no need for a 1 on 1 Romney v McCain debate. Between now and Super Tuesday, McCain needs to be out campaigning (not to mention fund raising). A debate between now and then would only serve Romney’s interests (and Russert’s, he’s a journalist and rightly should be seeking to moderate another debate). Once its down to a 2 man race, then the debates should be with both candidates. Ron Paul is likely to go the distance, he’s got the funding for it. So, any Republican debate should still include Ron Paul since he is a Republican and does get some support among the voting public despite his chances.

HUH?!?!?! It’s already a two horse race and frankly unless something real major happens in the next three days it will be a one horse race next Wednesday. Aggressive estimates for Romney give him about 360-370 delagates after Super Tuesday compared to McCain’s estimated 630-640. That leaves roughly 1070 remaining after Tuesday and Romney would have to score 77% of them to win the nomination which he won’t do. Realistically, Romney has three days to turn things around in a major way or he’s done.

Frankly anyone who doesn’t do that is IMO a disgrace and a contributor to the problem. Hannity, Rush, Coulter, Colmes…these guys are party propagandists whose role is to influence those who do not have the ability to think for themselves. What do you think a “dittohead” is? McCain is an angry war monger. All he knows is war. He fights his party, he fights his colleagues, he has a deep personal hatred born of years as a prisoner. He sings “bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran” like its a joke, but it reveals who he is, a man forever at war. Reagan and Bush 41 were hawks, but they didn’t joke about war. They were statesmen who understood their place in the world. They spoke softly and carried a big stick. McCain is forever looking for some kind of revenge or payback for what he suffered. That’s not leadership. It’s an obstinant sense of entitlement. He believes America owes him the Presidency. Well Senator, America doesn’t owe you more than it owes any other veteran.

Comment by Howard

Huckabee is non-starter. Romney or McCain is all you have. McCain is an old, sickly, vile and nasty person. Romney whatever he had to do in MA will be far to the right of McCain. McCain has been stabbling me in back for 8 years, I will not be saying that I admire his courage, integrity etc., and ignore the stab wounds. A person of courage and integrity does involve himself in back stabbing. He will be toast in the general anyway that is why the press is pushing him on us. What could be better a liberal representing the republicans. Oh you say,” he is against earmarks” but his immigration bill would have represented total bankruptcy for the nation. So, conservative he is not.

Comment by Virginia Mom

Actually, Governor Huckabee has A LOT of committed supporters. The media has largely counted him out, But he will make a strong showing in many states. Plus, he is not just capable of getting votes from religious conservatives. He won Arkansas overwhelmingly with votes from all kinds of people, including over 40% African American votes. Don’t fall for the hype — the media coverage of him is designed to strip his votes and boost the network’s candidate of choice.
