Wins For McCain…Solid Showing For Huckabee…Romney Continues

” I want to congratulate Governor Huckabee and his supporters on their success today. Not for the first time, he has surprised the rest of us….I salute you…And I want to congratulate Governor Romney as well on his wins today. He and I have been going at it pretty hard over the last few weeks, and he is a tough competitor….This election, like any election, is a rough and tumble business…But I have respect for people who are willing to accept the extraordinary demands, all the ups and downs, of such a tough and long contest. And Governor Romney has mine”
So said John McCain as he spoke to his supporters in Phoenix, Arizona. He arrived there earlier in the day .
He won New York, Arizona, Oklahoma, Delaware, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, California and Missouri AND won delegates in numerous other states won by Romney and Huckabee.
Huckabee swept the southern states with little organization or money. He won his home state as well as Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama, with the help of evangelical voters, after gaining a victory in the West Virginia state convention early in the day.
He made it clear he was forging ahead:
“A lot of people have been trying to say that this is a two-man race,” Huckabee said in Little Rock Tuesday night. “Well, you know what — it is, and we’re in it.”
Romney’s wins included Massachusetts, along with North Dakota and Utah, where he got strong support from his fellow Mormons. He also won the Montana caucuses, Colorado and Minnesota. He too said the race was still on.
“We’re going to go all the way to the convention. We’re going to win this thing.”
The precise delegate count won’t be completed for a few days.

McCain wins 9 states, Romney wins 7, and Huckabee wins 5……..and these tools at Fox News have the nerve to try and tell us that Romney is the big loser of the evening? Last time I checked, Romney’s lead over Huckabee will be larger after all the counting is done tonight. Once again, Fox News completely misses the target and shows their blatant bias against Romney. Never thought I’d say it, but Fox News lost me as a viewer.
Hey Fox, you guys are totally downplaying Huckabee’s miracle tonight. Its a 2 man race now McCain & Huckabee. I like Romney but I am a realist. What do you mean “a solid showing for Huckabee”? Numbers prove that a vote for Huckabee is not a vote for McCain. Its a vote for Huckabee. If anything, Huckabee takes votes from McCain.
HONEST ASSESSMENT FROM A ROMNEY FAN:
Hello to everyone… I just want to be open about the fact that I am a Mitt Romney supporter so people do not think I have a “hidden” motivation behind my comment. Obviously today was not good for Mitt Romney, yet I do believe the MSM is definitely labeling Romney as “wounded and stunned” while praising Huckabee and McCain (McCain did have a great day). Here are a couple of things spinning on my mind – - please comment back and tell me if I am making sense and if I seem reasonable…..
#1 – I do not want to start ANOTHER war with Huckabee fans but his motives have to be brought under question. Huckabee today is acting as though he had a HUGE victory today yet he is in third place in the delegate count. Huckabee did not win today, John McCain did. Huckabee is forgetting that he is a race to WIN it, not just beat Mitt Romney. If Huckabee is truly in this race to win the nomination, he is not acting like it.
#2 – Romney fans need to start accepting the fact that it is just not Huckabee’s fault he is losing. I have a number of reasons I believe this is happening. One, I believe that Romney has not yet learned to play politics as McCain has. The downside of this would be that Romney would have to adopt the dirty tactics McCain has used. I am not in favor of this and am proud Romney has not resorted to this (in my opinion). The shame is that in order to win in these days of the MSM you must resort to dirty politics. Second of all is that McCain does have better name recognition than Romney. Please do not be offended but there are A TON of idiots who vote based on name recognition alone. Third is that Romney has not put McCain on the offensive enough. This is tricky to believe however because the MSM makes McCain’s assaults on Romney front page headlines yet relegates Romney’s attacks as side notes. Anytime you are on defense you will lose and Romney has been playing defense too much. Last of all is that he is simply not convincing enough people to vote for him.
#3 – Religion has mattered in this primary. Unfortunately for Mitt Romney, Americans are not YET ready for a Mormon president. I am not saying this is a good or bad thing, I am just making the observation. I am a Mormon and while it hurts to know this is the current electorate of the country, I accept it and move on. Please no religious wars…. In my opinion some people have not voted for Romney based on him being a Mormon. I believe his religion definitely hurt him in the amount of votes he received. As I have said before, this is reality, and I accept it and move on. America has spoken and I am ok dealing with it. To the American people, be careful in voting OR NOT VOTING for someone based on religion. Remember that we are voting for a president and not a preacher. The Constitution is clear in that no religious test is required for office of President. Remember that no man will ever be perfect, and if you vote for a man SOLELY for his religion you will ALWAYS be disappointed.
#4 – It is only going to get uglier if Romney stays in the race. All I see happening is that McCain will eventually get the nomination but we will have a destroyed and divided Republican Party. Perhaps it would be classier if Romney drops out to avoid what could become an even more shameless primary. YET IF ROMNEY TRULY BELIEVES IN HIS CAUSE I APPLAUD HIM AND SUPPORT HIM…. I believe Romney is a rational man who will stay in the race until he is convinced he can no longer win.
#5 – Now I am debating what to do in the event of what seems to be a McCain Nomination. My first feelings like many conservatives are to simply not vote, or vote for the Democrats. Yet if he loses, I hope Romney loses with style and eventually supports the GOP nominee. Losing is tough but a classy man accepts defeat gracefully. The GOP voters would have spoken and we need to accept that reality.
#6 – I believe we can all agree that the Mainstream Media (MSM) is destroying our elections – PERIOD. There is not enough room to number the bad things they have done. They frame the issues, decide the candidates, and try to tell us what to think. Maybe it is too late to stop the MSM in our society.
TexMex – MITT ROMNEY ‘08 FAN!!
MCCAIN WOULDNT EVEN BE IN IT IF NOT FOR SHAWN HANNITY, WHO HAD EGG ON HIS FACE LAST NIGHT. HE KILLED HUCK RIGHT BEFORE S CAROLINA, HOPING GULLIANI COULD WIN FLA. HE NEEDS TO WORK FOR HILLARY, THIS IS HER TACTICS
COACH ANDERS
Can anyone tell me if Huckabee really won 5 states as “Huckabee” or did he win them as “McCain”????? Just curious which of the two professed conservatives really won? I know that West Virginia was a McCain win (even though it is under Huckabee’s name)…how about the others?
The next time we hear a “state of the union” speech it will either be President Obama or President Clinton speaking. I hope all you McAmnesty/Huckster voters enjoy seeing our country destroyed.
Way to go republicans…you have managed to support a liar that would grant amnesty to 20 million illegal aliens… My father has always told me “you reap what you sow”. However, McCain will never get the chance because Hillary or Obama will be the one making that decision.
You know, McCain just might be able to beat Hillary since he has proven that he can play just as dirty as the Clintons. I will not support him because they stand for the same thing, so it’s irrelevant. I sincerely believe that Obama will be our next President. At this point, anything is better than McCain, especially if Huckabee is his running mate!
HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN LEAD HUCKABEE IF NOT FOR SHAWN HANNITY KILLING HIM RIGHT BEFORE S CAROLINA SHAWN NEEDS TO GO TO WORK FOR HILLARY THATS HER TACTICS HE AND BRITT COULDNT EVEN TALK WITH THE EGG ON THEIR FACE, WHO WERE THEY TO TELL HUCKABEE TO GET OUT THEY WERE WRONG ON GULLANI,LMAO BIG JOKE NOW ROMMNEY MAYBE THEY HAVE BECOME THE ANTI CHRIST

I am so proud of Mike Huckabee and his showing last night. If the news media would stop shoving McCain down our throats, I think he would have had an even bigger showing. I am so sick of hearing that the evangelical voters are the only reason he’s winning. He has alot more support than that and I don’t appreciate the media’s pigeon-holing him in that way. I especially don’t understand why Fred Barnes hates Huckabee so much. It is clear whenever he even mentions Huckabee’s name how much he despises the man. He says his name as though it is the worst swear word around. Fred – what has Mike Huckabee ever done to you that you should hate him and his supporters so vehemently?
This just proves that America has not turned its backs on Mike! We still have a chance to turn this campaign around in Mike Huckabee’s favore. All of the mud throwing that has been going on for the past few months has affected those who want to see America go back to its roots, which is to put their faith back in God. Our Great Country was founded on faith in God and our forefathers who were God fearing people believed and followed his direction. Mike Huckabee is a God fearing man and his principles and his platform are about turning America around, making it right and fair for All no matter race, religion etc. Step up and help meet the challenges that face Mike Huckabee in the weeks ahead, we can turn this campaign around and we can help Mike Huckabee become the next President of the United States.
TEXAS its time NOW, get out there and spread the word, next month will be very important to help Mike get to the next level!
IF MCNASTY WINS, I’M WRITING IN MITT’S NAME OR VOTING THIRD PARTY.
IF MCNASTY PICKS THE HUCKSTER FOR VP, I’M STAYING HOME PERIIOD.
WILL NEVER VOTE FOR EITHER OF THESE LYING SOB’S.
How in the world could we let this happen !!!!!!! Last night we sent a very bad message and maybe gave up the only chance to stop McCain…. Is this really what our party has turned into ?? A vote for Huckabee is really a vote for McCain……….. Now that we have voted with our hearts and put McCain out in front, it’s time to use our brains, pull together, and get behind Mitt Romney…. If we don’t, just think what pain the next 8 years are going to bring.. FRT
Love your title for this article, Cameron. Could you be a little bit more biased towards
F-ckabee? You’re known around here as the Barney Fife of FOX News, and we’re all sick of looking at you in that diarhea colored coat. Enjoy your spotlight while it lasts you dork.
The only way I will vote for McCain in November is if Romney is the VP. McCain needs the conservative vote. Romney has it. McCain/Romney for 2008 or Hillary wins. Heck–Obama wins, too!
People have questioned Huckabee for staying in and what for? Because he doesn’t have the money that Romney has? It is bad when your personal wealth can persuade people and the media to give you the edge. I salute Huckabee for staying in and also proving people wrong about the little man. I think it was dirty to ask him to drop out or question him for staying in the race before Super Tuesday elections.
It would be nice if reporters for Fox and elsewhere would do their job.
I am trying to piece together what I can. From a Fox article, there are 1086 delegates awarded. As far as I can tell, all delegates to this point have been awarded with the exception of the 173 from CA. Based on the fact that CA is awarded winner take all by Congressional District and the fact that Huckabee got only 12% of the vote, it is probably safe to say he did not get any delegates from CA. No one knows how the 173 will split McCain to Romney.
So, there have been 1086+173 = 1259 delegates contested (and probably more if these super delegates or whatever are still outstanding).
That leaves a maximum of 1,121 delegates left (2380-1259=1,121).
Since Huckabee has a total of 190 delegates and I don’t think he gets any from CA, that means he needs to get 1,001 out of 1,121 delegates in order to be the nominee. Since the remaining states are not in the South and are not winner take all and he would have to beat McCain who he has not competed against- THAT IS A MATHEMATICAL IMPOSSIBILITY. HE CAN NOT BE THE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE. He clearly is staying in only to help McCain and to try to get the VP slot.
Romney has 269 delegates, but we don’t know how many of the CA 173 he gets. If we assume around 90, he would have a total delegate count of around 350-360. So he needs to get around 840 of the remaining 1121 delegates. Very difficult, but not impossible if all conservatives united.
McCain has 613 delegates and if we assume he gets around 90 from CA, that puts him at around 700 total. So he only needs to win less than half of the remaining delegates to win (need 1191). The most likely scenario.
My numbers may be a little off- but why is the media still saying Huckabee has a chance? Even if Romney drops out, McCain will get the nomination without having to have a brokered convention and there goes Huckabee’s VP hopes.
Please correct me if I am missing something.
Have conservatives looked at John McCain? His record is clear when it says, “he is not a conservative.” John McCain is a very liberal person that should have ran as a democrat. I do not think he would make a good president and wouldn’t stand a chance against either Hilary or Obama.
Never going to vote for a RHino and would prefer people like Linda Chavez and the media not tell me what to do. I know what will be done at election time if the candidate is still the same. Republicans are going liberal not me.
I’m proud to have voted for Mike Huckabee.
THE COMMENTS BELOW ARE NOT FOR PUBLICATION – JUST FOR FOX AND THOSE WHO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT COMMENTATING.
AS A PACIFIC COAST VOTER, I FEEL SOMETHING DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE DONE TO EVEN OUT POLLS CLOSING TIMES BEFORE YOUR MEDIA ANALYSTS START DECLARING THE WINNERS BASED ON RESULTS IN THE EASTERN STATES. UNFORTUNATELY, WEST COAST POLLS CLOSE 3 HOURS LATER, MAKING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT YET VOTED TEND TO GO AND VOTE FOR THE PERSON THE NEWS PEOPLE ARE DECLARING AHEAD & PROJECTED TO BE WINNERS INSTEAD OF THE PERSON THEY ACTUALLY WANT TO VOTE FOR TO WIN. MANY VOTERS CAN THINK FOR THEMSELVES AND VOTE FOR THEIR PERSON AND ARE NOT LED TO COMPROMISE THEIR VOTES. HOWEVER, TOO MANY VOTERS WANT TO BE ABLE TO SAY THEY VOTED FOR THE WINNER AND CHANGE THEIR VOTE TO THE LEADER IDENTIFIED BY THE MEDIA/ANALYSTS. WE NEED TO HAVE ALL POLLS CLOSE AT THE SAME TIME, WITH NO ANALYSIS UNTIL EVERY POLL HAS CLOSED.
I WATCHED FOX ALL EVENING AND WAS VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE ANALYSIS NAMING THOSE WHO SHOULD DROP OUT BEFORE RESULTS WERE EVEN IN AND POSTED! I HAPPEN TO BE A ROMNEY SUPPORTER AND I REALLY OBJECTED TO HAVING SOME OF YOUR PEOPLE AT THE ROUND TABLE DECIDING THAT ROMNEY WASN’T GOING TO WIN AND SHOULD (& WOULD) WITHDRAW THURSDAY – WHILE THERE WERE STILL TWO HOURS OR MORE LEFT TO VOTE ON THE WEST COAST. THOSE KINDS OF WORDS DO IMPACT VOTERS WHO FEEL THEIR VOTES AREN’T GOING TO COUNT ANYWAY, SO EITHER DON’T VOTE OR VOTE FOR THE PERSON THAT IS AHEAD AT THAT TIME.
I USALLY TRUST FOX. IN THIS CASE, FOX WAS JUST AS BAD OR WORSE THAN THE MAIN CABLE CHANNELS I DISLIKE BECAUSE THEY DO THIS KIND OF PROJECTION! I EXPECT BETTER FROM FOX.
Huckabee was the BIG winner last night!!! He has a total of 190 delegates with ONLY spending 7 million dollars! On the flip side, Romney has spent 86 million and ONLY has 269 delegates to show for it!
Romney should bow out – he can’t BUY his way into the White House!
If McCain wins the nomination, it will definitely split Rep. voters. Personally, I will not stay home on election day. But I can, and will, write in my candidate.
Unfortunately, the political machine has gotten behind one of its own and pushed to get him to the top. Too bad, as we really need a conservative that is also an outsider. McCain fails in both these two categories.
This sets the stage for a third party formation. I think it would do the country good to have one.
I am frustrated with our party and the ideology of why Huckabee has stayed in this race other than to create havoc for the real conservative side of our party. It is obvious that the plan between the two McCain and Huckabee is to take out Romney the only true conservative. I hate the fact that the political process can be manipulated in such a way. The WV win was a true example of what was happening behind the scenes between the two campains. This will be the first time in my life that I will not vote. I would rather have the democrats ruin our country under their watch then to have a liberal cheating republican do it and lose more support. McCain stole the Florida primary by telling lies about Romney and his setting time lines for the war which all the major networks and papers declared as unfounded truths. I cannot and will not vote for such a person who distorts the truth such as Bill Clinton, remember the line? (I did not have sexual relations with that women.) Same goes for McCain and Huckabee for telling lies. I am a veteran and am sick and tired of McCain talking about his being a foot soldier and his experience as a commander in the Navy. I have great respect for those in our military but respect is earned by being examples of strength and truth. Not just words and because you were a prisoner of war. I would not doubt if you chose to get caught because you knew it would eventually help you with your desire to be a life long member of government voting for your own pay raises whenever you wanted to buy a new car. While others in this country suffer for your stupid votes against the Bush tax cuts. Oh and then in your words Flip Flop all over the place and change your mind to again increase your chances of being elected. So much for straight talk huh!!!
Romney is a class act. McCain is a flip-flopper if he now decides to court the conservatives in his adopted party after thumbing his nose at us in the Senate. Now he needs us – think again. I will not vote for him. Huckabee is a whiner and has been since he continually whined all through the Iowa Caucues. Don’t worry, we will hear the negative side of McCain once he wins the nomination. The media will suddently have a memory miracle.
From a native Arizonan and combat veteran to a war hero who is Senator John McCain. Senator John McCain can’t even gather a majority of Republican votes from his home state, what a pitiful candidate for President. Senator McCain’s conservative platform responsible for his election to congress and the senate, he has betrayed, rolled up and poked (shoved) into the collective eye of every responsible conservative citizen of the State of Arizona. Senator McCain’s conduct and actions over the last decade has been to the left of Senator Clinton or Senator Obama, two foolishly unqualified candicates for president. There are plenty of assisted care facilities throughout Arizona capable of soothing John’s delusional and convoluted leftist thinking without any further harm to society by his actions in the Senate. My advice: Retire quietly and the next time a gentle breeze makes you stumble to the ground, STAY DOWN and allow qualified and capable candidates like Governor Romney or Governor Huckabee lead the GOP and the country as President of these United States.
Another biased hack job by Carl Cameron “Strong outing by Huckabee..Romney continues” as if to say Romney did worse than Huckabe …well that is not true. Romeny picked up way more delegates than Huckabee.
Carl Cameron, Britt Hume, and Bill Crystal have had it in for Romney from the start. Mr Crystal even said Romeny willl drop out of the race when Mitt has given no such indication. Britt Hume looks disgusted every time he mentions Mitts name and discounts every state he won by saying well “its not a big state” Also predicting doom and gloom for Romney before the western polls had closed had an impact on the race because undecided voters jumped to McCain because of the glee fox news showed over his wins on the east coast.
I hope Mitt Romeny gets enough delegates where John McCain will have to come make ammends at the Convention in order to get the delegate he needs for the nomination. He should offer Mitt the VP ticket to appease the conservative voters and Mitt could bring home Michigan and Mass on election day.
I have learned one thing this election that I never realized before. Except for the few jnkies who actually research the canidates people will vote for whoever the media picks. Fox News has proven this to be true. Sean Hannity is the only one who has stood up for Romeny.
1 They have called Mitt a flip flopper and not other canidates who have changed their minds on issues (McCain on amnesty and tax cuts).
2. When Mitt was delegate leader they never spoke of his inevitability as the nominee. Yet did so with McCain after he took the lead.
3. Any state Mitt has won they have made an exuse for why he won it or said it didn’t matter.
4. They have refused to take McCain to task in debates on his anti-life support of destructive stem cell research or his support of liberal judges during Bush 1 presidency.
5. No one has discussed how he cheated on his first wife while she was recovering form a car wreck and then divorced her to marry a woman whos dad had money to buy him a senate seat. I guess he didn’t mean it when he vowed to love honor and cherish in sickness and in health. He would not get another female vote if this story was on the headlines and it should be.
6. No mention of the extremly foul language he uses on the Senate floor to address his fellow republicans when they disagree with him.
The average american doesn’t know these things because the media Foxd News included wont tell them. So they jump on board like lemmings. I can guarantee one thing If McCain wins the nomination the democrats wont hide the facts above like Fox News is now. CNN and MSNBC can wait for us to declare McCain the nominee so they can throw all this up as new material come November. Since McCain is now saying the right things to please conservatives and get votes he will be labeled as a flip-flopper during the Novemeber election should he get the nomination. He will meet the same fate as flip-flopper Kerry in 04.
Romeny takes all their issues away form them and can run as a change agent like Obama is. He has implemented universal health care and is an expert on the economy. (McCain did buy a book once). Mitt is truly the best choice for president but sadly Fox News won’t let the truth on McCain get out.
DOES ANYONE DO THEIR HOMEWORK BEFORE SELECTING A CANIDATE?
It time for Mitt to drop out of the race. He spend 10 times the amount of money Huckabee and he still not doing well.
He should endorse Huckabee and give him some of his money and try again 2016
How come we can’t get a real story with real figures on McCain’s “win” in his own state? It must be pretty bad, if no one’s talking about it.
The True Record: Mike Huckabee and the Arkansas GOP
Chad Gallagher
February 07, 2008
Over the last 15 years, Mike Huckabee has improved and strengthened
the Republican Party of Arkansas. From the time he was the U.S.
Senate nominee in 1992 until he left the Governor’s office in 2007,
Mike Huckabee was a powerful and influential figure in the Republican
Party.
By understanding Huckabee’s 10 ½ years of leadership in the proper
context, we can see that his leadership strengthened the party,
elected Republican candidates, and helped shift the state government
to a more conservative position.
We must have accurate historical context when reviewing the
relationship between Huckabee and the state party. Huckabee’s
election for lieutenant governor in 1993 became the GOP’s first
statewide victory in over 10 years. His path to politics came from the
private sector, outside the political arena, and led him to be just the
fourth statewide Republican ever elected in the State of Arkansas.
Immediately, he brought credibility to the state party and a sense of
tremendous excitement to the party faithful who were tired of fielding
unsuccessful candidates. Huckabee became the titular head of the
state GOP and began without hesitation to raise funds, headline
dinners and support the GOP slate of candidates. No one has attended
more Arkansas Lincoln Day dinners than Huckabee.
Huckabee’s 10 ½ years of leadership strengthened the Republican
Party. Upon becoming Arkansas’ 44th Governor in 1996, Huckabee
inherited a state that had been governed by Democratic governors for
all but two of the previous thirty-six years. Democratic governors had
appointed every member of appointed boards and commissions, and in
addition, the 135 seat legislature had only 15 Republican members.
Huckabee stepped onto a stage that Republicans in Arkansas rarely
walk on and governed in a difficult environment filled with partisan
hostilities. In this environment, he passed conservative legislation,
won statewide election in Arkansas four times, and maintained high
approval ratings throughout the entire 10 ½ years as Governor.
Huckabee focused on governing to the best of his ability and fighting
for the conservative values he espoused. As governor, Huckabee knew
that to achieve any legislative success, the sheer numbers required
him to reach across party lines. By doing so he scored extraordinary
victories that state Republicans could have never achieved without his
leadership. Legislatively he pushed through every possible pro-life bill
allowable under Roe v. Wade, passed the first broad based tax cut in
Arkansas’ history, and streamlined government. All of these were
reforms championed by the state party.
Huckabee went on to reform education, refurbish the state’s crumbling
infrastructure, improve life for the children of working families, and
create new jobs. These results required both leadership and
extraordinary political skills. Huckabee excelled at both. It was his
compromise with Democrats in the Legislature on legislative details
(not principles) that brought these changes about. Though a vocal
minority in the Republican Party criticized Mike Huckabee’s willingness
to reach across party lines, it was this willingness that allowed him to
pass conservative legislation and allowed him to be an effective,
forward-thinking governor.
Huckabee won statewide in Arkansas four times. This is more times
than any other Republican in Arkansas history. His approval ratings
stayed strong throughout the entire 10 ½ years as governor and he
trounced any token opposition that arose in the GOP primary.
One legacy that is vital to the future of the Republican party of
Arkansas is often overlooked. While governor he made thousands of
appointments to state board and commissions.
When he left office in 2007 every single gubernatorial appointee was
appointed by a Republican governor for the first time in Arkansas
history. Republicans had never had a better seat at the table on these
board and commissions.
These appointments put conservatives on every regulatory board in
the state. Today, these appointments significantly impact the direction
of state government and create a potential farm team for the party to
draw from for future candidates for public office.
Huckabee tirelessly campaigned for his fellow party members. As the
head of the state party Huckabee sent appeal letters, headlined
events, and hosted receptions continually raising funds for the party.
He did this for successful and unsuccessful candidates.
This is why he today enjoys the support of former U.S. Senator Tim
Hutchinson, former Congressman Asa Hutchinson and Jay Dickey as
well as Mary Jane Rebick, Sheffield Nelson, Randy Bynum, Betty
Dickey, Bud Cummins and, of course, current Congressman John
Boozman.
These candidates stumped in town after town with Huckabee and saw
his efforts firsthand. They also know that when Republicans lost
elections, their governor did not forget about the wounded. Many of
these listed and countless others received appointments to key boards
and posts in state government upon their defeat in order to utilize
their skills.
Huckabee’s efforts on behalf of GOP candidates did not stop with
statewide candidates. Huckabee campaigned tirelessly in every cycle
on behalf of Republican legislative candidates. He rarely receives credit
in the media for these efforts but there are a host of current and past
legislators that can attest to his faithful efforts on their behalf.
He raised funds, sent letters, headlined events and stumped for GOP
candidates in every part of Arkansas. He also wrote tens of thousands
of dollars worth of checks to these candidates from his political action
committee, Conservative Leadership for Arkansas.
He campaigned with the same fervor for candidates who were likely to
lose as well as those who were likely to win. He also worked for
Republicans with whom he had previous disagreements.
In 2004, Mike Huckabee publicly campaigned for state Senator Jim
Holt, in spite of their public disagreements at the State Capitol. This is
the same Jim Holt being paid by Ron Paul to campaign against
Huckabee. It was clear that he was not only a team player but the
team captain.
In spite of accusations to the contrary, Mike Huckabee never worked
on behalf of a Democrat over a Republican candidate. Huckabee did
support conservative Democrats because it is a necessity to govern in
Arkansas. He worked with many of them to create winning coalitions in
the Legislature, but again, he never campaigned on behalf of a
Democrat who had a Republican opponent.
His support of Democrats was limited to Democratic primaries and
where conservative Democrats faced no GOP opposition in the general
election. It is also important to note that these instances were few and
far between.
There is no smoking gun to the accusation that Huckabee helped
Democrats. No one will find a contribution, a letter of support, a story
about a fundraiser or public appearance on behalf of a Democratic
candidate that faced a Republican in the general election.
Come election season, Huckabee did not support Democrats, and
Democratic machine did not support Huckabee. Democrats never
thought Huckabee was on their team when it came to elections. They
worked hard to defeat him and complained about his tireless efforts
against them.
One example of this was Huckabee’s hard campaign efforts to defeat
the Speaker of the House Bill Stovall in a tough uphill battle for
challenger Chee Chee Tamburo. The truth of the matter is that every
campaign season Huckabee fought hard for his party and most
importantly for his principles.
In 1993, Huckabee took an oath of office to serve the people of
Arkansas and he did this without regard to party affiliation. He
understood that after the elections were over that the people expected
Democrats and Republicans to work together.
They expected results and he intended to deliver those results. He
governed on behalf of all Arkansans and made life in Arkansas better
for everyone as a result. His record is one that Arkansans are proud of
because he governed by his unwavering core principles and a
commitment to service.
It is because of his commitment to service that he carried Arkansas
from 1993 to 2006, and it is this same commitment that will help him
carry Arkansas one more time in 2008.
LOOK WHAT THE NEW YORK TIMES HAD TO SAY ABOUT MIKE THIS MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Operating on a shoestring budget, Mr. Huckabee has spent far less lining up his 156 delegates than any other candidate, Democratic or Republican, when measured by cost per delegate.
The calculation is based on end-of-year figures and does not take into account fund-raising in 2008 or the spending since the nominating process began in Iowa on Jan. 3.
By those figures, Mr. Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, ran the most frugal campaign, spending $$45,000 a delegate, according to The New York Times delegate count. That was far less than the $654,000 a delegate spent by Mitt Romney.
“It’s clear that Mr. Romney’s money can’t buy him love,” said Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan group that collects and analyzes campaign finance data. “He’s spent so much more than Huckabee, yet Huckabee got a lot more bang for his buck.”
Federal records show that Mr. Romney, a Harvard Business School graduate who has made his business skills a campaign centerpiece, spent $87 million in 2007 and ended Feb. 5 with 133 delegates. By comparison, Senator John McCain of Arizona, leading in delegates with 683, spent $39 million, or $57,000 a delegate.
Mr. McCain and Mr. Huckabee’s campaigns defy the conventional wisdom that says it takes money — a lot of it — for a candidate to get out his message. While the presidential hopefuls are on track to raise $1 billion — and spend it — Mr. McCain and Mr. Huckabee made the most of “free media,” taking virtually every opportunity to participate in televised debates, appear on late-night talk shows and turn up regularly on cable news programs.
“They say that the most dangerous place to be is between Huckabee and a cable news show,” said Scott Reed, a Republican strategist. “He went on every free outlet to get his message out. He was living off cable television. And he did exceptionally well in each of the 15 Republican debates.”
Mr. McCain, who was down to his last $1 million in late 2007 and took out a $3 million bank loan, ended up spending $8.5 million to date on television commercials. Mr. Huckabee spent $3 million on television commercials, according to CMAG, a firm that tracks political spending.
By contrast, Mr. Romney spent $30 million on a nationwide television blitz, representing half the spending by all Republican candidates combined. To help support this spending, Mr. Romney also lent his campaign $35 million, or $263,000 a delegate.
Representative Ron Paul, Republican of Texas, also spent heavily, with little return, $20 million with an estimated five delegates, or $4 million a delegate.
Former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York, who spent $48 million, did not line up a single delegate.
On the Democratic side, the neck-and-neck race between Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama continues in the financial arena. Mrs. Clinton, of New York, has spent nearly $90,000 for each of the 892 delegates she has lined up. Mr. Obama, of Illinois, spent $119,000 for each of his 716 .
At the end of 2007, Mrs. Clinton had $37 million in cash, with $18.5 million for the primary and the remaining $19 million earmarked for the general election. Mr. Obama had $18.6 million on hand, of which $13.5 million could be used for the primary race and the remaining $5 million for the general election.

We feel that McCain is running on arrogance, and somehow has a vendetta to settle. That attitude is coming off stronger than what he can do for our country. It also is clear in the shots on TV, that Lieberman is in his pocket (possible to be chosen as running mate??)
As far as we’re concerned, and have heard from others, Candidate McCain will equal Obama (in preferance to Clinton) as President.
We have been registered republicans all of our lives, but if this is the case, will campaign/vote for Obama.

Congratulations Fox News, your man McCain gets the nod, but you loose veiwers. T’was you and the preacher that defeated Mitt, not McCain. His bigoted rants and deceptive protestations convinced enough conservatives that Mitt was 666. I’m sure that he will get his well earned 30 pieces of silver from McCain in one form or another. Your biased reporting and panels swayed the Republican liberals and so-called independents like yourselves for McCain. There is no political party now for conservatives. I’m voting for any third party candidate so that I don’t have to be part of what the next four years is going to bring from McHillary. If and when the Republican Party returns to conservative principles I will return to the Party.
Why does everyone spell Mormon wrong? Fox cannot even get it right in tags for this blog. Beautiful.
Your journalist should be fired for reporting false information. Huckabee swept the South because of Neil Boortz, Rep. John Linder, and The Fair Tax.
I think John McCain should pick Condolezza Rice for his VP. Not only is she a women, but she’s a African American to boot. Wouldn’t Clinton and Obama just wet their pants. The First Women and the first African American to hold the 2nd highest office in the land.
The republican party not longer exists as a political force in the usa.
Whoever is the Democtatic nominee should be made president immediately.
We have to stop the bickering. We must unite as Republicans. Everyone has their favorite preferences, but right now the time has come to stand behind a man of honor, a man that suffered for years more alongside his fellow soldiers who were also P.O.W.s, instead of leaving them abandoned. He stayed with them. He could have accepted and left the infamous “hanoi Hilton” years earlier, but did not. He would leave when they all left.
While many were enjoying margaritas by the pool, and God knows what else, John McCain was sacrificing himself for his country. He is like Ronald Reagan, a man who stands for his beliefs. I remember when many were against President Ronald Reagan, and snickered before he was elected and after, but after that first summit, he won the respect of the fre world’s leaders. The snide jokes about Bedtime for Bonzo evaporated. President Ronald Reagan demonstrated that he was born to lead our great nation. He single handedly fought communism, handing freedom to so many all over the world. John McCain is so much like Ronald Reagan.
John Mccain has stood against abortion and has defended the unborn, time after time, in the shark infested waters of Washington, D.C. One cannot get more conservative than that. He stands for small government, less taxes, and the pursuit of happiness. One cannot get more conservative than that.
It’s time for the few who are throwing these ridiculous temper tantrums to stop acting like children, and for the sake of the Republican Party, but more importantly, our country, to come together.
True conservatives don’t have temper tantrums.
True conservatives love their country.
I admire Mitt Romney for having the maturity to understand this.
John McCain is the man we need in the White House.
The number one issue right now is the safety of our country. WE need to make the Bin Ladin gang that America will not tolerate any type of terrorism. We must win the war in Iraq. We must search and bring to justice every terrorist in the Osama Bin Ladin gang.
ah but you are not the Main stream media… they are the campaigners this year. Look at the media people they do more to promote a candidate or attack them than any other source. Huckabee has spent NOTHING on adds but I read about him blog after blog afer blog on msnbc, abc, politico, cnn, and fox. I would like to count the FREE ads going by the name of media blogs or news reports for the initial ten candidates… the LA debate in which huckabee and paul were virtually ignored is a prime example…how many pieces did you see about duncan hunter? how many about todd or biden? how many did you see POSITIVELY advertising Fred after his first week? I read of every McCain endorsement, but saw only one mentioned for Romney. Today Dobson endorsed Huckabee and it got more play than the ten McCain got. Has anyone wondered why he didnt endorse Huckabee until Romney got out?…I thought they were fellow evangelicals, does this mean Dobson was a silent supporter of Romney? There are hordes of questions good reporters would analyze. Instead however they repeat endlessly flip flop charges or 527 accusations, or any other scandalous things which cant be proven but only insinuated. The Media is driving the matchups…the media is giving us no real analysis. I listened to Lehrer on the news hour, the direction of the interviews were directed by the host not as dialoge developed. I watch the sunday talking heads and its nothing but confrontation, little by way of saying…what is your agenda..what do you propose to do about the war. How will you provide an additional 16 billion in research on new energy sources? Explain to us how your insurance solution works and why its better than other plans. If you plan on sending back 15 million illegal aliens, can you tell us who will fill those jobs when they represent 15% of the employment and we have only 4% unemployment? will the companies who can not find a labor force just shut down? In current attempts to enforce the law what are you doing about families of those you are deporting? their children who are in school? their wives and elderly parents who count on them? There landlords, their creditors they owe for cars, and appliances. what effect will your plan to remove them from our society do on the positive side? the negative side? If the current immigration staffs at our embassies are now overloaded, can they respond to the demands when LEGAL immigration is needed by our produce farmers? What are your plans concerning the threats of terror? Do you intend to increase surveilance or cut back on it? What is your position on the current campaign laws? Why? Instead we get…YOU SAID fourty three years ago…X…now you say Y… this inconsistancey tells me you are a scumbag, how do you respond..(a russert/ stephanopolis/ wallace question) your opponent called you a pedophile how do you respond… you said this but on an obscure tape we have you saying this..how do you respond… donoldsonisms have replaced serious inquiry and we are all paying for it. We need REAL reporters who do not lead the candidates…who ask straight forward questions like I hear from consituents in town hall meetings…we need reporters who then PRINT what they heard rather than challenging the candidates…let them challenge each other. Argumentative reporters do NOTHING more than indicate their own bias by the degree of antagonism they demonstrate toward particular candidates…WE NEED SERIOUSlY Inquisitative Interviews rather than what passes for contradiction esposition. WE can determine that all by ourselves without having some goofball “wannabe” celebrity on a news channel pimping themselves and becomeing the equivalent of the Enquirer rather than a real Cronkiter as newsmen in Scandinavia are sometimes known.
Just remember, when Mitt was still in the race and the delegate totals were the same as now we didnt hear a peep out of FOX about how McCain was the undisputed champion of the world. Their phony CAPTAIN PANDER Willard Romney drops out and suddenly we are told the race is all over but the shouting and Fox cannot even send a camera to CPAC. They can put videos up on FoxNews.com about Paris Hilton going on Greta but they cannot afford to cover Huckabee addressing CPAC.
So much for fair and balanced.
We folks on the Christian Right get this same crap treatment all the time because we do not worshop at the alter of Big Business.
I am calling on ALL CHRISTIAN RIGHT voters to email foxnews at ureport@foxnews.com and tell them that they had better start covering ALL the news or they will be called out as the phony shills they are.
Fox did not get their way on Romney so they have taken their cameras and have gone home. I wonder what they will say in November if 1/3 of the GOP stays home like they did. Keep it up you morons…you are going to elect Hillary or Obama. FIXED NEWS CHANNEL is losing its luster.
Wow…I was browsing through here and reading the comments….ONE thing I noticed about the people who were behaving quite childish (cussing, belittling, and the likes)…..the UNEDUCATED ones all appear to be liberal…..wow….who knew……
As a CHRISTIAN (Which I know might upset you to even mutter the name Jesus)….I will be praying for some common sense for those people (Liberals)!!!
Also …I pray nothing but blessings upon Huckabee…….. He’s doing quite well…but If he were not to win….What matters most if what GOD thinks…………He’s a good man, an honest man and people who can not see that need to possibly open their minds a little more!!!!
I am one of those who said, never McCain. Upon careful thought, if Romney were selected VP, I would have to vote for the ticket, because of Romney. The ticket would then have it all, McCain best and most experienced protector of our country and Romney on economy and all else. Romney’s presence would be an asset to McCain on a variety of disciplines…smart, articulate, handsome, youth, family and most conservative. It would heal my heart.
