McCain’s next moves
McCain has to raise a ton of money, he needs a bigger team, he needs to fold the RNC into his message machine, he needs a back channel to coordiate with the White House. He needs to get the GOP’s House and Senate campaign committees in sync. He must wrangle the GOP special interests into some sort of a cohesive machine. He needs an electoral college strategy, a popular vote strategy, and a long term general election plan. He needs to start defining the opposition and chart out his positive and negative messaging evolution through November. He’ll need to run new ads. He’ll need to identify his battlegrounds for the fall. He’ll need to carefully review the calendar to see what events to use and avoid.
Some things are easily anticipated: Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor day, conventions, debates.
But there are other things; sheduled reports to congress from the DOD and the CIA on Iraq and the world, economic reports from the Fed Chairman and the admin on the economy. The budget battle will be another major issue that comes in the fall.
In the meantime McCain will continue to visit and campaign in the remaining primary states but his message will shift to general election positioning.
Mike Huckabee is likely to beat him in several more states. But even during intermittent defeats McCain will find will opportunity to shore up his conservative credentials and start trying to define the fall race.
While Obama and Clinton battle, McCain would like to concentrate on framing democrats. But he’ll have a second concurrent task with rallying his own party.
He will have to unite senators who have resented his maverick streak. He will have to unite house members who always resent senators. He will not have to overcome the fact that no senator has won the WH since JFK, because his democratic rival is gonna be a Senator too.
But make no mistake, while there may not be as much intensity in plain view, behind the scenes the scramble is on. McCain knows against democrats he now has a head start in planning for the fall…he also knows he needs every break he can get to prepare….the McCain Machine is in production

If Huckabee, Ron Paul and other candidates can collectively win 530 of the remaining delegates, the GOP convention will be brokered. Having denied McCain, Huckabee would be favored to win the brokered convention.
So, why do you assume Governor Huckabee, Ron Paul and Alan keyes cannot get 530 delegates if they keep having states won by 3 to 1 like the powerful shocker given to us by Kansas Republicans. Even with such a high Kansas turnout, compared to earlier expected projected number of voters in Kansas, (5000 more than projected), Governor Huckabee won the caucus. Then, Governor Huckabee won Louisiana! Wow! Who expected that one?
And Washington state was so close, they couldn’t call it one way or another, although AP said last night that they were already calling it for Mccain. How could they call it before morning count?
{I lived in Washington state and never forget how the government overthrew the Republican Governor’s win over his democratic counterpart by throwing out all the military votes because the state said that they had mistakenly not sent the ballots in time to the troops. And, the radical liberal democratic judges actually pulled it off and even managed to find a bag of new votes for the current democratic governor after the election was over. }
Governor Huckabee pulled all these wins and very close votes with every pundit and DC centered Republican telling the world to stay home and don’t bother voting for Governor Huckabee. What if the Governor keeps momentum and spends 1/20th of his competitors to continue to win election after election in the next 24 states?
I will send mcCain one dollar, he doesnt deserve more, look at what a buck for huck did.
He aint gettin’ any money from me. The Republican party should be ashamed of themselves letting this political cross dresser impersonate a Republican. Saying we should all “get in line” and support our candidate”HE IS NOT OUR CANDIDATE!!!! I never voted for him, and even after his speech at CPAC they still voted that they wanted Romney as President even though he had already dropped out! Romney gave up his campaign for the good of the Republican party, he is a better man than Juan McAmnesty and he is a better man than I am because my new bumper sticker is going to say
“Since we are going to go down the toilet, we might as well take a dump in it first —- Vote for Hillary 2008″
FOX IS PROPHESYING THE DEFEAT OF HUCKABEE, THEY ARE HOPING THAT THEY CAN HELP IN DEFEATING MIKE HUKCABEE, EVERY TIME HUCKABEE GETS A FORWARD PUSH THEY TRY TO PUSH HIM BACK. IF ANYONE IS DIVIDING THE REPUBLICANS IT IS THE MEDIA, IF HUCKABEE CAN STOP MCCAIN FROM GETTING THE DELEGATES HE NEEDS TO CINCH UP THE NOMINATION THEN HUCKABEE STILL HAS A CHANCE AND THE PUNDITS SO FAR HAVE BEEN WRONG ALMOST ON EVERYTHING, YOU WOULD THINK THAT THEY WOULD LEAVE IT ALONE, ALL YOU HEAR IS MCCAIN HAS TO DO THIS DO THAT, HUCKABEE HAS ALREADY DONE WHAT THEY WANT MCCAIN TO DO. I AM FOR HUCKABEE ALL THE WAY, AND IF HE CAN TAKE HOLD AND RUN WITH HIS CAMPAIGN LIKE HE IS THEN I WANT A MAN TO RUN THE COUNTRY BECAUSE HE CAN TAKE OUR COUNTRY THAT IS IN THE HOLE AND BRING IT OUT ON TOP WITH OUT RAISING OUR TAXES AND TAKING MONEY FROM THE PEOPLE, HE HAS RUN THIS CAMPAIGN ON LITTLE OF NOTHING, IF HE CAN DO THAT IT SAYS SOMETHING 0F WHAT HE CAN DO FOR THIS COUNTRY.
He needs to restate a new position on closing the borders, deporting all illegals except those immediate families having a citizen-child by birthright, by punishing all employers who hire illegals with very stiff fines, and by establishing a fair and functional process for reapplication to citizenship.
He needs to establish that he will support permanent, meaningful tax cuts.
He needs to choose a staunchly conservative VEEP, now.
He needs to provide a prospective short list of potential cabinet members and Supreme Court nominees, if needed.
And he needs to do these things yesterday.
McCain’s fight needs to incorporate his own short-comings as well as taking on those of his opposition. I was and am a Bush supporter, but I disagree with him one some things.. and illegal ‘immigration’ is one of them. McCain’s saying he won’t deport the mother of a Nationalized soldier fighting in the ME is reminiscent of Bush saying he can’t bring himself to send home the man who comes here to make a better life for his children.
This is not about FEELINGS. It’s not about what the President can or cannot ‘bring himself or herself’ to DO. The President darned well better be able to put aside his or her feelings and adhere to the Constitution.. and undertake the chore of making sure the States obey not only the Constitution, but their own laws too.
If he or she won’t get past their ‘feelings’ then they are NOT Presidential material and should quit the race.
This is one republican who will just find a good bar instead of the polls on voting day.If we cant come up with a better canditate why waste time to vote. My opinion, he is not a republican {WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING] IS MORE LIKE IT.
Conservatives need to unite behind McCain. Sure he is not perfect, but take a good hard look at the alternatives. Clinton and Obama are promising to pull-out of Iraq. If that happens Iraq will fall into all out civil war, the terrorists will proclaim victory and attact us here on our on shores.
Say what you may about Bush, but we have not been attacted here, since 9/11.
McCain will not unite the GOP.
Romney has suspended his campaign, right? This means that he has not given up any of his delegates…right? So if you add Hucklebees tally and Romney’s tally the combined puts Huklebee ahead. If this is true why isn’t anyone mentioning it. Are McCain and Hucklebee fighting for his delegates??
I am a GOP precinct committe chairman from Washington State and I do not like McCain…he is a dangerous not trustworthy person. The last few years all his major bills have been with dems. I have a feeling that Lieberman will be the running mate.
MCain doesn’t care about anyone else’s thoughts except for his own. I just do not trust or like the guy.
Jim D.
Carl,
I need a little help.
Just once I would like a news organization to report the news instead of making it!
FOX, along with all other major news networks, misleads the viewing public by imbedding super delegate votes when reporting the delegate race for the democratic presidential nominee. Super delegates, as your network very well knows, will not cast their votes until the DNC meets late this summer. Please do us all a favor and simply report pledged delegates for each nominee as they earn them and separately show a poll on how the super delegates may likely vote at the convention! In doing so, the american public will see which nominee it has chosen and can hold accountable the super delegates from using their power and influence from stealing the election.
Lets error on the side of democracy!
Freddy C., Republican from Pennsylvania.
Good luck with $,you picked the wrong guy,Should have been Mitt.Good luck in Nov.
Don’t call me or send me any fundraising letters because I’m not giving McCain or the RNC any of my money.
Shore up his conservative credentials? What conservative credentials!!
Hillary supporter, Alonzo Cantu from Mcallen-Texas, has been bundling “supposed” donations of hundreds of Hidalgo County residents, to the tune of $Millions$ of dollars. This in a county where the median household income is well under $30,000.
Cantu is now asking Hidalgo County elected officials and even County & State courthouse Judges to have their names placed as donors for Hillary at a private fund-raiser in Cantu’s house on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. The FBI in conjunction with the FEC are investigating Alonzo Cantu for money laundry into a presidential race and all while using the names of elected officials who clearly cannot afford such donations.
One must wonder how many of these instances of unexplainable masses of high-dollar contributions “bundled” from poor and lower middle class populations will actually reach Hillary Clinton before serious arrests are undertaken by the Feds.
“Mr. Cantu, I hope it was worth the ride. Your life is about to be turned upside down. Sleep tight while you still can; for now!”
No Ticky, No Tacky!!
It is a sad commentary to see everybody and their Bow Wow Coronating John McCain as the next King Tut of the Republican Party.
Huckabee is the ‘New Ark Giants’ in this here race who can yet send the McCain Patriot Express to the nomination dustbin. It takes 1191 delegates to win. No ticky, no tacky. We may yet witness that little ole miracle at this years Republican National Convention!
J.R. Coleman
Midlothian, Virginia
Carl you again live up to your nickname! This analysis is right on – McCain has an edge but to maintain the edge he needs to go to work right now in order to win in the fall.
As a registered Republican; the ONLY WAY I could ever be able to give my support to Republican candidate John McCain is if he completely abandon’s any intentions of ever granting “Amnesty” of any type to the 12-20 million illegal aliens that are currently inside our country.
This is what any Republican candidate for President need’s to do:
No pathway for citizenship.
No so-called Comprehensive Reform.
No Amnesty of any kind.
You must sign and support ‘THE SAVE ACT” H.R.4088 and assure that this all-enforcement bill passes in the senate!
If John McCain can work across the aisle as he claims, he should be able to get that done for America!
That is what we want from any Republican candidate, before the majority could ever support them.
Sen McCain: have you forgoten the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill carrying your NAME ? now, you’re going to get pac money !. Are you serious.? please don’t tell us you’re a straight talker!. You’re a flip-flopper again. go Huck.

I challenge anyone who questions who they are going to vote for to check Huckabee out.
A VOTE FOR McCAIN is Insain! We would not be talking about losing the WhiteHouse for 4 years it could be for decades. By then Obama and all his followers will have the United Nations running our Country. It’s our Country We deciede! Don’t listen to the media. If you haven’t noticed by now they LIE!
Get up and VOTE! Take YOUR Country back from the media and Washington Insiders. WE THE PEOPLE…….Want a more perfect union that gives us…..the right to have our votes count and the prospect of……..
LIFE, LIBERTY, HUCKABEE, and the PURSUIT of HAPPINESS!
Carl, The GOP is the party of smaller government. This is still the United States of America and the constitution the supreme law of the land. With that in mind, to deport all illegals, you would need to appoint judges, expand immigration court, and star the backlog of approx. 20 Million illegal immigrants, That is not smaller government. All of this because we do have that small issue of due process. Add to that the lack of qualified prosecutors that would be required, and public defenders. Also, where do you plan to house the 20 Million while their process takes place? and what are your plans for dismantling this camp for the 20 million in question? What do you do with federal government employees accumulated through this magnanimous effort after they are all gone? Please dont suggest that they can just haul them out in busses because half of these illegals require plane tickets to be repatriated and while in the US, they are our problem, so we also have to feed, clothe, and pay for their plane tickets. If you legalize thiese people, they will end up paying into all the services they now get for free (schools, hospitals, public services, infrastructure). Also, are you going to accept minimum wage to spend the whole day in the sun cleaning chicken coops, picking veggies, fruits, handling cattle like the current illegals do? are you ready for a 10 dollar loaf of bread or worse yet having all these legal farmers close shop and collect ffod stamps because they have no workers? It is not just as simple as deporting illegals, lets think of the (financial) implications.
WELL HERE WE GO AGAIN CARL, FIRST IF WAS RUDY, THEN THOMPSON, THEN ROMNEY, NOW MCCAIN. ACCORDING TO YOU AND FOX NEWS ANYTHING TO KEEP MIKE HUCKABEE OUT. YOU KNOW HE DOESN’T NEED 98% TO WIN. YOU ARE COUNTING ON ENOUGH PEOPLE TO ACTUALLY BELIEVE YOUR RUBBISH. EVERYONE KNOWS ALL HUCKABEE HAS TO DO IS TO KEEP MCCAIN FROM GETTING ABOUT 45% OF THE REMAINING DELEGATES, NOT A DIFFICULT TASK AT ALL. WHY DON’T YOU AT LEAST ATTEMPT TO BE FAIR AND BALANCED AND REPORT THE WHOLE TRUTH FOR A CHANGE!
McCain will cruise to victory tomorrow in the Chesapeake Primary. I expect him to win MD, DC and VA by an average of 20%. How can this not be a sign that he is well on his way? Also, McCain will surely pick up Wisconsin in the next week.
Regardless of his faults, McCain is almost without doubt the GOP presidential nominee.
I think if he very soon announced Mitt Romney as his running mate that conservatives would rally around the McCain/Romney ticket and immediately gear up for the fight to defeat the Democratic nominee in November.
http://mittromney.townhall.com
It is time to start voting Conservative and not Republican..no mccain down our throats Vote For Huck!
I sent my donation to the Constitution party. It should be noted that I’m registered as unaffiliated and always have been, though I have in the past favored Republicans more than Democrats.
Why I’ve chosen to support a third party once again is primarily due to disappointment in the choices.
1. Mike Huckabee
A. As Governor of Arkansas he swelled the State government to 160% of its size when he took office.
B. He increased taxes by a net of 500 million dollars, more than any other candidate has been responsible for.
C. His Anti Mormon rhetoric. Our country is founded on the Freedom of Religion, to have a Presidential candidate to persecute another religion as this man and his followers have is unacceptable in my eyes.
D. He was found more than once with his hand in the cookie jar that didn’t belong to him. We don’t need someone noted for taking money from nonprofit organizations and mansion funds to supplement his own income. I wouldn’t trust him to count out a register for me more less the trillions the Federal Budget entails.
E. It takes more than just talking the talk, you gotta walk the walk to and in this Mike Huckabee has failed in almost every aspect of his Public Life.
2. John McCain
A. Adulterer. I laugh to myself when they call this man strong on family considering what is well recorded about his conduct during his first marriage. He was worse than Bill Clinton, it is just the news media doesn’t want you to know that.
B. McCain-Feingold: The ironic part is this might cost him the election ultimately. I see it as an infringement on Free Speech though.
C. McCain-Kennedy: Yeah lets give amnesty to these people because we did that in 1986 and it worked so well. Congress never intended to build that fence and that’s why to date its still not built. If your a changed man open an investigation Senator McCain on why the fence is not completed.
D. Leiberman-McCain: Great bill, if you want to destroy the economy we already have. Many corps are already of their own accord moving to more green practices, let them do it without legislature. It is most responsibly and economically done when the government is not involved.
E. In 2007 Senator McCain missed more than 60% of all Senate Votes, including a majority of those dealing with budgeting, taxes, spending, defense and immigration. No American could keep their job if they had such a poor performance nor any student graduate.
F. Missed so many votes in 2007 that he failed to earn a conservative rating for the year. His conservative rating for 2006 was 69. He may once have been a conservative but his work of the last few years shows a strong change of heart.
2. Hillary Clinton
A. National Health Care: The government needs to stay out of Health Care, they have ruined and mishandled every program they have put their hands on. It would cost ten times what they are telling you and quite frankly we cannot afford our current entitlement programs. We need to scale back the federal government and allow the people to once again rely on self reliance, when we did so our nation was strong.
B. Numerous scandals such as Whitewater. They show a determination to achieve her goals no matter the means. To me that’s just not ethical.
C. In 2007 she missed approximately 35% of all Senate Votes. No American who missed work 35% of the time would keep their job or be promoted.
3. Barack Obama
(Yeah I listed this for both of them because it is unrealistic, it would be far better to eliminate all government welfare programs and allow that work to be done by local charities who can do the work more cheaply and efficiently)
B. In 2007 He also missed more than 60% of the votes, the only Senator to miss more votes, was John McCain. It is ridiculous that these people who could not even represent their states think they are entitled to be President of all the states.
C. He also failed to vote many times as an Illinois State Senator during his time there. How such a person that cannot take a stand on anything move from the State legislature to the Federal Legislature is a puzzle to me.
I do not believe any of these four people can convince me to vote for them. It would be nice to see an honest and fair report including all cons and pros of each candidate, sadly the news media of the last decade has slid down the slope to far, 90% of what is considered news today would have been entertainment 20 years ago, and 40 years ago it wouldn’t have been allowed on TV.
I voted for Huck in MI. That vote still stands! Peter.
Just found article on WorldNetDaily saying that George Soros and Theresa Heinz Kerry are giving funds to John McCain since 2001. There is no way we can support this man for the nomination! I am not certain if this is true but it sure explains his behavior in congress.
It is funny to see that McCain has to “shore up his credentials with conservatives”. Hello?
He has no credentials. He has spent the last 4 years stabbing Republicans and conservatives in the back. Now he smiles and wants us all to fall in line and back him against the democrats?
He is no straight talker. If he was, he would have told the conservatives to F* off like he did while in the Senate.
McCain is not a man of integrity. Most people would have ashamed of their tratorous acts. McCain is proud of them! Look at the gang of 14. He undermined his leadership to get his name in the paper.
McCain’s record shows he is against conservatives on about 80% of the issues. He is proud to be a maverick. So, I will imitate him this November.
Be a maverick -VOTE OBAMA!
i maxed out my contributions for Romney; there’s no way i’ll spare a penny for McCain…BTW…i’m an independent now.
The President of the United States MUST be a highly intelligent person. Mike Huckabee never graduated from a Bible College (Eventhough he lied that he did). McCain graduated 5th from the bottom of his class. I have been a life-long Rebulican – from a long line of Republican family! I cannot vote for an un-educated person. The party picked the wrong candidate for sure!!! Mitt was the smartest of All the candidates. The only smart ones left are (even though it makes me sick to write this) is Hillary, Obama or Ron Paul. They are the only intelligent candidates left. I am very very sad.
Conservatives unite behind Huckabee!
The media is blowing smoke when they say McCain is the only possible winner. If conservatives vote Huckabee, he can still win enough delegates to stop McCain. Do the math. The media (including FOX) don’t do the math.
At this point, McCain has a large up-hill battle. If we look at just the numbers of money raised – Obama and Clinton have been raising over 2 times the amount of McCain. Not a good sign.
I recall hearing how much more the Republican party was raising during the two presidential campaigns for Bush.
If the same holds true….well, we are looking at a Democratic President and Congress……
Hang on to your wallet – it is about to be picked clean!
Carl….you guys are totally making assumptions about Huckabee’s support. It is always assumed that he is bringing in the “conservative, evangelical Christian” vote. That may be true, but you NEVER mention the Fair Tax army that supports Huckabee. Why the muzzle on the Fair Tax folks?
Huckabee’s campaign is truly dead — and much worse. Unlike Romney’s magnanimous suspension of his campaign in order to allow the Party to unify, Huckabee is basically saying he doesn’t care whether he continues to fracture the GOP — with the obvious advantages he thereby gives to Hillary or Barack Obama. He couldn’t care less, as long as he can stay in the news. That’s why, in the final analysis, voters will abhor the Huckster’s selfish grab for attention and headlines when there isn’t the slightest chance he can win the nomination. He’s only in this to try to grab the VEEP spot and to have a continual rush of seeing himself in the news. Sick. Serious Repubs will never support such a selfish clown. All in the name of God, mind you. Good grief.
As for McCain’s need to both mend fences and raise money for the real race this fall, he needs to immediately and publicly apologize to Mitt’s camp for all the lies and distortions he crafted to derail the Romney campaign; he should offer a cabinet position to Romney, who would probably not want it (but it would still show the first act of civility in Mc CAIN’s campaign). Romney had the contacts and good sense to be able to RAISE more money than any other GOP candidate (we’re NOT talking about his own wealth, but his fund-raising ability!)– McCain should take notice to mend his many offenses to the real economic mastermind of the race before he asks us for money. Or no money will be forthcoming! McCain should acknowledge that this is all about the economy, which was where Romney was just what the ‘Doctor’ ordered. Too bad mcCain knifed him; McCain made his bed; now he can sleep in it.
All I want to know is where are the Ronald Reagens of today?? It seems like no one who has the wherewithal to run, will run! I guess with the press today and pundits etc…. no one wants to put their family or themselves thru the “got ya grinder”! I can’t blame them. I watch Fox to try and get a somewhat unfiltered picture of what is going on in this country and world. But the mood of today is soo negative, and there are so many who think the USA is always wrong, it really gets depressing. This country is wallowing in PC attitudes, the ACLU has beaten us all to black & blue, values of plain courtesy are fading as our culture gets rougher and more base. I feel, it seems more and more that Professor Horowitz is correct about our schooling, especially in colleges, is pushing only the far left agenda, and has influenced and is influencing generations of young Americans. It is essentially brainwashing!! I praise his work to alert people to this, and to try and turn the emphasis back to teachers showing both sides. McCain is not my favorite but as Dennis Miller said the other night, I want someone who will fight terrorism and not run from the Middle East. Let Huckabee be VP. The alternative is not acceptable! I am all for women and people of all decents doing well and having all the choices to get ahead in life. But this is a dangerous time, not a time for unexperienced people to be in charge.
Carl, you write as if it is all over; it is not over until McCain wins the 1,091 delegates he needs. McCain is a bold face liar, and he lied on national tv by taking a blurb out of context and even when repeatedly told by the moderator, he keeps on repeating the same lie; reminds me of Bill Clinton’s parsing of the word is. But Romney is too much of a gentleman to call him a liar.
Keep on fighting Huck. I beleive in miracles and I believe in the conservative values
If the RINOS want McCain as their nominee, then they can have him. But their votes alone will not get him elected. And I will NOT vote for him.
To all of you who say Huckabee has no chance.. support McCain now… OHH REALLY? See Below.
Even if Mike Huckabee is not the outright winner of a majority of the total of the primary vote nationwide, he can still win the nomination through a brokered convention. A brokered convention occurs when none of the candidates receives a clear majority of the delegates going into the convention. This has happened several times in the Republican primary process.
Path to win through a Brokered Convention:
1) McCain can be prevented from winning 1191 delegates.
According to RealClearPolitics McCain has 720 delegates & still needs 471 to win.
That means he has to get 44% of the remaining delegates to secure 1191.
2) So Huckabee needs to win 57% of the remaining delegates to force this to a Brokered Convention.
3) On Super Tuesday McCain got 42% of the vote in Blue States and only 26% in Red States. Over 60 % of McCain’s delegates have come from Blue States. Do we really want our candidate picked by States that we have very little chance of winning in the Fall?
4) Remaining delegates: Red States = 711 [ 70.5% ], Blue States = 297 [ 29.5% ]
RED States Left as of 2/8/08:
=====================
47 Louisiana
39 Kansas
63 Virginia
140 Texas
88 Ohio
39 Mississippi
69 North Carolina
57 Indiana
33 Nebraska
45 Kentucky
32 Idaho
32 New Mexico
27 South Dakota
5) Every time Republicans have gone to a Brokered Convention we have won!
Abraham Lincoln ? 3rd Ballot – Won Presidency
Rutherford Hayes ? 7th Ballot – Won Presidency
James Garfield – 36th Ballot – Won Presidency
Warning Harding ? 10th Ballot ? Won Presidency
6) Conservatives Unite! There is still time! Win the Red States and we go to the convention for a discussion about what it means to be a republican.
We are confident that these facts will bring Huckabee supporters encouragement and hope. It is not over!
There seem to be 3 groups of Republicans: McCainiacs (to quote David Limbaugh), Party-Unity forces, and those of us who support apparently invisible candidates still in the race.
As an Ohio Republican, I am mad. I didn’t set up the primary schedule. But I haven’t gotten to vote yet, and I’m not ready to cede my choice to the 20+ states who got to go first.
Both the Democrat and Republican parties are wringing their hands over the contests being fought, state by state, but they set up the game board, not us. We only get to vote when the calendar comes to us…so change it next time, but THIS TIME, it’s too late. They are just going to have to wait until we, the voters, choose who we want.
BTW, CARL, YOU ARE RIGHT!!! This election is teaching us how to organize ourselves online, outside of the media and party structure. That’s how Mike Huckabee can still be in the race with 1/10th the funds of Romney. And if someone doesn’t know what BTW means, google it…I’m almost 50 years old, and I’m learning…
I can’t see how ANY REPUBLICAN Can support McCain- Have you ever heard of the “Reform Institute”? World Net Daily had an article (I believe they broke the story, but correct me if I am wrong)..that the Reform Institute, a political group founded by John McCain, and even untill recently had staff members that were paid by them, was funded by GEORGE SORROS/ADRIANA HUFFINGTON/THERESA H. KERRY!!?
(AND TO MY SURPRISE THE NATIONAL MEDIA-INCL. FOX News Hasn’t covered this..)? Is there a coverup-to keep information from the public..Idk
Here’s the wnd link (fox reporters): http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=56177
The article says McCain has been a “maverick.” He isn’t a maverick; he is a Democrat. That is a bit hard to overcome in a few months unless he returns to the senate and starts voting and legislating conservatively, instead of traveling around trying to persuade us that he has been a conservative all along. Give us credit for a bit of intelligence.
P.S. Go Huck!
As a Republican.. here goes.
If it’s Hillary (a.k.a. Billary) and McCain I’m voting McCain
If it’s Obama and McCain, I’m voting Obama.
I can’t stand McCain but I really can’t stand Hillary.
What’s a Banana Republic?
4 Years Bush, 8 Years Clinton, 8 Years Bush, and if we have 4 – 8 years of Clinton.. 28 years of the same people.. ugg..
McCain is to Liberal for me, so I might as well vote for a liberal, so Obama then.
As for the primary, Huckabee, only because Rudy dropped out.
Karl Rove doesn’t understand Huckabee voters. When we get a chance to explain Huckabee’s stand on the issues, it’s an easy sell. I’m not venting. I’m spending my time and and my money to actively take part in this campaign.
Huckabee supporters are even shipping the signs they bought with their own money to other states who haven’t had their primaries yet…that’s NOT venting…that’s commitment! I know because I just received signs from California supporters.
Go Huck! Ohio is coming up!
McCain has a long road ahead convincing conservatives he can represent them. He has a lot of baggage to ditch. As bad as he is he is better that Hillary or Obama. If he is the candidate I will hold my nose and vote for him. Four years from now we will have better choices I am willing to bet. Maybe Romney will be back and Huck won’t play dirty with the religious digs. We need someone with a strong business sense and Mitt has that.
Virginia primary results: Much ado about Huck early. As a staunch conservative, I am voting for John McCain in Nov, but today, with Virginia in hand for John McCain (c’mon you news folks, Huckabee doesn’t stand a chance in Tidewater or Northern Virginia) I took the only opportunity I would ever have to drive a stake in HillBillary’s nomination hopes. I WANT TO SEE HER GONE, WITH NO CHANCE OF ATTAINING DEM NOMINATION. I’m not certain Obama is really on the American side in our War on Terror; he seems to have been rooting for Al Qaeda for quite some time and I’m more than confident in John McCain, head-to-head, against an unseasoned candidate…I believe Ed Rendell has got it pegged about right.
The vitriol from the far right made up my husband’s and my mind to contribute for the first time ever to a campaign: The McCain Campaign.
Despite Ann Coulter, who is just a gold digger at the expense of controversy. She, just like Rush et al cannot accept that extremists, whether left or right, are out of touch with the American electorate. They just refuse to swallow their pride.
Divide and conquer has been an adage through the night of times. John McCain has lots of solid conservatives rallying around him, from five star generals and war heroes to economic gurus (Phil Gramm, Jack Kemp – one of the Reagan’s economic policy architects) just to name a few; in addition to the obvious support of the majority of Republicans., moderates, independents, and the Hispanic Republican.
We are living on precarious times in this nation, on the brink of losing our “grip” on the rest of the world. With a national debt amounting to trillions, China owning one third of our T-bills, the US dollar in free fall, a school system that does not work despite spending the most money in it, we still rank number 13 among the 13 top industrialized nations in the world. A real crisis in health care and social security ….
On the subject of immigration, McCain is living up to his mistake about not securing the border as a first priority. I happen to disagree with the extreme right that the estimated 12 to 20 million illegals can be kicked out overnight. There has to be a comprehensive plan to get rid of all the bad weed (an estimated 2 million), and create a path to legal residence for those who have work hard, pay taxes, etc. to go to the back of the line and wait after those who have been mindful of the law to get there first. I go as far as advocating the introduction of a reform to Amendment XIII (which was first introduced after the Civil War to give legal status to slaves) to secure that only children of legal residents and citizens can claim the right to American citizenship, and avoid the nefastous consequences of “anchor babies”.
If the extreme right chooses to stay home instead of casting their vote, or they decide to go a la Ann Coulter, it’s their privilege and I respect it. I’m sure McCain will attract more independents and moderate democrats than Billary will the opposite.
In closing, Sen. John McCain has the qualifications to get if not everything done that we need, at least most of it, and open the trail for those issues that are more time consuming, and will extend beyond a first term.
A Texas Republican
I flirted briefly with voting for Senator McCain; however, I believe Mike Huckabee’s wins and the restive right wing will force him to choose a VP with whom I cannot abide. That being said, I’m not sure the Dems will fare well in November and should they win they may fare even worse.

Fox and Fox watchers; The majority of people who voted are voting Democrat rather than Republican. The number of people who went to vote for a Democrat is more than twice the number of people who voted for a Republican. That means that a majority of 2 to 1 is making it clear what the people want now. Fox might consider reflecting the heart of the people to sustain it’s business income in the next 10 years.
Take care,
Joseph
time for huckaphony to drop out, for both he and mcnasty to apologize to Romney
Conservative “carping”? Oh,Cameron your liberal bias is showing again! To dismiss our deepseated anger with the lack of conservative convictions displayed by McCain over the last decade in the Senate as “carping” speaks volumes of your disrespect for conservatives and your idolatry of Juan McCain.I for one have had it with your persistent failure to report with some balance and objectivity.I just have to keep reminding myself that in the end we conservatives who remain principled will have the last laugh.
WE ASKED MCCAIN HOW MANY PEOPLE HE KILLED ON THE FORRESTAL BUT HE REFUSED TO ANSWER US.? MAYBE THEY THREW HIM OFF FASTER THAN HE COULD FIND OUT, WE JUST THINK HE DIDN’T CARE…………………..
I will “decline to state” for now, however I do wonder if the (R) next to McCain’s name is too much to overcome. I wonder if ANY imaginable republican can win this thing, or if Bush’s unpopularity is just too big a beast.
PC
Gov. Huckabee did graduate from college in AR with honors and attended one year in Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth before joining the James Robison evangelist ministry. He has two honorary degrees and was ordained by the Baptist Convention of AR and served as their president for several years. He was voted one of the best five govenors by Time Mag. Do you think Gov. Huckabee can not lead this country becauses he did not graduate from an Ivy League College? I have an MD degree and am a retired educator and do understand the value of a good education. However, logical thinking, common sense and obedience to Bibical principles & values is even more important to me than college degrees. I think you are just using that as an excuse because you do not like Mike’s core conservative values. It will be America’s great loss if we lose this remarkable leader. I recommend you read his book FROM HOPE TO HIGHER GROUND and visit his web site to learn more about him. However, I would support McCain if he asks Gov. Huckabee to be his V. Pres. and it needs to be soon. The GOP cannot win in Nov. without an enthusiastic southern base of supporters. GO HUCKABEE !!!
all 3 candidates have voted to give social security benefits to illegal immigrants, what does that tell you?
This election is a disaster, at a time when we need a strong leader, some one tough on illegal immigrants, some one who can talk to middle east countries, what do we get as choices?
Hillary, i dont lie, clinton — does she not know that middle east countries consider women as second class citizens, what in this world makes her think they will even talk to her. She will probably cry the first time some one drops a bomb !!
John, hothead, McCain – he belongs in a nursing home. He owes too many favors and only promises more of the same.
Barack Obama, hes alive and vigorous but in experienced. He wont be able to get anything done unless we can clean out congress and take away their elaborate retirement program and medical benefits.
Good luck America !!!
There is no way that Huck can win a general election
You people voting for Huck are a disalusional as he is.
McCain would never debate Huckabee because he is a nuisance to him
OMG! like anyone would sit an listen to a debate between them Mike Huckabee is insignificant to John McCain
He doesnt need to waste his time debating Huckabee.
Those of you that don’t want to vote for McCain keep your vote we don’t want it or need it .
John McCain will win the General election with out you…so u are just as insignificant as Huckabee so go cry with him on March 5th when Texas blows him out of the Race!!!
McCain 08
educate yourselves and then maybe someone will pay some attention to you!!!
THINGS WE CAN DO TO FIGHT THE SMEAR CAMPAIGN!!
1. If you hear someone say “Barack Hussein Obama Jr.,” ask them why they aren’t also saying “John Sidney McCain III” or “Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton.”
2. If someone mentions that there are Muslims in Obama’s family, ask why that matters. The First Amendment was written to protect all religions and to protect us from a state religion. Obama is a Christian, but a Jew, Muslim, Hindu or atheist, likewise, should be allowed to run for office. Read the debates that swirled around Sen. John F. Kennedy when he ran as a Catholic for the White House in 1960, and you will get a sense of the types of attacks that are sure to come against Obama if he prevails in the Democratic primary. The bottom line is that there is no religious litmus test for running for president.
3. Another way to rebut the prior question is to ask why anyone should be responsible for the actions of their families. It is Obama who is running for office, not his Kenya-born, Harvard-educated economist father, Barack Hussein Obama Sr.
4. Whenever a comment strikes you as borderline offensive, switch the gender or race of the actors involved in your mind, and see if the comment still makes sense. If not, bigotry is probably involved and deserves a response.
Even if you personally are not a woman or multiracial man, you have a stake in preserving a climate for political discourse that is free of bigotry. Step up to the plate and do your best.
How mean-spirited some people can be. No one could have stated it better. Barack’s campaign is a lot more than just implementing better programs. It is about empowering all Americans to work together for the common good and to end the prejudice and divisions among groups. Let’s hope that the voters take advantage of this rare opportunity to elect a leader who can help us begin a proud chapter in American history.
Sen. Clinton is throwing everything inckuding the kitchen sibk at Sen Obama. The Clinto attack
machine is all-in for the Texas & Ohio primaries. Too bad when she loses
she will not quite. Sen. Clinton will take it to the convention and fight to the bitter end. No matter
what the cost to the DNC
Sen. CLINTON NEEDS TO PACK IT IN tHE PARTY IS OVER. Stop crying and go home
Zogby poll — is pro-Obama … Please do research reporters … stop easy reporting and do your public informing respected work responsibly …
Fact: today Zogby poll is reporting as follows:
Obama leads 47 percent to 44 percent in Texas, as Clinton gained 1 point overnight in the polling conducted by Zogby International. He leads 47 percent to 45 percent in Ohio, a turnaround from Clinton’s 1-point advantage on Sunday. Contrary to CNN’s Poll of Polls, and other new polls that came out today …
Intended or untended? This is a complete misinformation war agains Hillary just because Zogby (I think he is an Arab American) who happen to share the same faith as Obama’s father or grand father … I have also seen him on one TV shows make a case on behalf of Obama saying how successfully USA will demonistrate to the World (his world is middle east) that it is an open society … and so on … He reminded me Chilabe of Iraq … you remember?
You doing good but please make your better … you can do it … a little more research and connecting the dots will do it … It brings you respect …
