Romney’s farewell
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s departure from the race leaves conservative voters to Mike Huckabee- who reaped the benefits in Ks and La. John McCain will increasingly win over conservatives as the party unifies, but Huckabee has several more surprises up his sleeve. Do not underestimate the HUCK!
Romney ran a text book campaign. Yes, there were plenty of mistakes and errors but they were largely minor. For the most part they did it right.
He got out to Ia and NH early and often. He staked out conservative positions and his discipline in retail politicking was unrivaled on the trail – even by the 101 town hall mtgs held by McCain. Romney could not however get over several humps. He was socially moderate only three years ago and could not shed the flipflopper image. His wealth was never a liability, it was always an asset. But his rivals were occasionally able to use it to cast him as a spoiled rich guy. More than anything voters were suspicious of Romney, too often they would actually bemoan how perfect Romney can seem.
Voters would look at Romney’s rhetoric, his record, his resume and his family and see so much success, prosperity and optimism..they would find it difficult to relate and become suspicious.
Romney’s was one of the most professional campaigns I have ever covered. His staff was excellent and will be in high demand for the general. The governor and his family are all terrific. The Romney’s are a wonderful bunch. I will miss chasing them around ….
Thanks Governor, see you at the Convention and in Iowa and New Hampshire in 4 years……;)
Yes!! of of course he is thinking about it..it is not appropriate for him to discuss publicly but, he is a do-er and any smart bet is on him doing it again.
The second try seems to be working pretty well for McCain afterall….

GREAT column (as usual)!!! Could you explain why there is a feeling out there that Governor Huckabee has NO chance of winning the nomination? Yes, I watched as Karl Rove with his whiteboard showed how it was impossible for Huckabee. But is it really? For some Republicans (like me) Huckabee is much more aligned with us than McCain.
It is as promised when you live your life as a follower of Christ. Romney does!
We’ll be supporting him in 2012!
Sorry Carl, your man McCain will lose against Hillary or Obama. You talk about Mitt being socially liberal, what about McAmnesty? His liberal credentials are a mile long. I would never vote for such a hot headed curmudgeon. We had a chance to unite the party with a true conservative (Mitt), but the born agains were bigoted so now they can reap what they have sown. In my book, it is anybody but McCain and Huckabee. I will celebrate the day Huckabee leaves, and I look with glee the day McCain gets crushed in the election. Sure…it will take 4 years to get back on-track, but so be it! Lucky for us McCain’s age will be a big factor in the next election (2012), I think he would be 76 by that time. My God…the guy would be 80 after his first term if elected. I hope Mitt runs in 2012, or maybe Newt Gingrich. Nuff said about McAmnesty!
So sad!!
Not sure who I’m going to vote for now… he was the only one I liked!
We look forward to 2012! Go Romney! Thanks for showing more class than Huckabee and trying to actually help the Party.
Romney is by far,the best conservative choice for President,in my opinion. More than likey,he will try again in 2012! His sons worked hard in the campaign,as well,as his wife Ann .
There are plenty of people out there who are disapointed Romney droped out who haven’t had the chance to vote yet. I think soon there will be buyers remorse. McCain shouldn’t have been so anxious for Romney to get out. Doesn’t seem to be doing him much good.
I won’t vote for Huck so will have to vote for McCain. Bummer.
We would love to see Romney back in 2012. I am glad to hear how much you enjoyed being around the Romney family.
Dear Mitt,
You earned the respect and admiration of every conservative republican in this country.
Here’s hoping the party can get behind you for a future run, as I think you would have made a tremendous president, and firmly believe you were the choice to turn this country around.
More than anything, you did the noble thing, the right thing in pulling out. Clearly, you understand that it is now time to get behind McCain. How I wish Huckabee got the memo.
Gov. Romney is a class act and hopefully he will be back.
He accomplished a lot on this first run. He had the media against him, the religion issue against him, and the under-handed McCain’s slurrs against him, and yet he managed to come up close in votes.
He is extremely intelligent, accomplished and generous, as we clearly noticed in the debates. We need him and people like him in our corner.
God bless the Romneys. We’ll be waiting for your next run.
Hopefully Gov. Romney will be back,
How depressing that Romney, the only candidate with an understanding of our economy and what it takes to get us up and running in first place internationally has gone.
He has integrity, business acumen, and certainly a presidential air about him unlike McCain who appears as a light weight in comparison. How can McCane compete against the oratory of Obama
or the political smarts of Clinton – he is ill equipped to do battle with the Democrats – it is over.
We will welcome Mitt Romney with open arms in 2012. We will ned him even more than we do now.
I am not a Mormon.
Great article!
I hope Romney decides to run again. He is the first candidate that has ever gotten me really excited! Great business smarts, outside the beltway, turnaround artist, and is a moral and honest man(no scandals in his past at all!).
You forgot to mention one of the humps that he couldn’t get over: His Mormonism. It cannot be denied that Mike Huckabee took advantage of and even exploited the fact that Romney was Mormon. “Christian Leader,” was what the Huck called himself. Evangelical Christians who didn’t vote for Romney because he’s Mormon should be ashamed of themselves. Religious bigotry has no part in the America that I love.
FROM MIKE HUCKABEE’S SKELETON CLOSET
Lots more at http://www.realchange.org/huckabee.htm
Enriching Himself with Public Money
Mike Huckabee has a record of dipping into public funds and accepting improper gifts from supporters, something worrisome for a job like president where you control a trillion dollar budget. Most politicians use money as a means to get more power, even while living lives of near poverty (as Bob Dole has); surprisingly few actually enrich themselves through their work. Mike Huckabee has.
He was investigated 16 times and cited five times by the Arkansas Ethics Commission for violating ethics rules. Two of those citations were for cash that the governor or his wife accepted but did not report. Huckabee’s gifts peaked at $112,000 in 1999, including $23,000 worth of clothing; over half of that was given by one businessman who Huckabee appointed to a state board.
At one point, Huckabee claimed that he personally owned $70,000 in Governor’s Mansion furnishings donated by cotton grower Boe Adams, but was forced to disavow them after Adams said they were for the state, not the governor. After he moved out in December 2006 though, no one could find the furniture even after a state audit. Huckabee’s wife insisted they must be there somewhere.
In 1999, his former administrator at the Goveror’s Mansion sued him for abuse of state funds, claiming that Huckabee used state funds for upkeep of the mansion on panty hose, barbecue, a dog house, dry cleaning, boat fuel, and alterations to his clothes. Huckabee settled out of court, by agreeing that legal doubts existed over his use of the fund and that he wouldn’t use it for these purposes in the future.
Huckabee also used state police airplanes as a personal transportation service for him and his family, flying scores of times each year, including trips to other states with early presidential primaries. He claimed this was legitimate for security reasons.
In 1994, when he was lieutenant governor of Arkansas, Huckabee formed a non-profit organization called Action America, which seemed to exist only to deliver money to him without donors having to report or limit their contributions the way they would a normal political contribution. In 2 and a half years, Action America paid Huckabee over $61,000 just for giving speeches at its events.
When he was getting ready to move out of the governor’s mansion, bridal registries were set up at Dillards and Target for the governor and his wife, who had been married for more than 30 years. They registered for nearly $7,000 in housewares, as well as $1,000 gift cards.
State ethics laws prohibited the Huckabees from receiving gifts of more than $100 as a reward for doing his job. But there was an exception for wedding presents.
Maybe it’s just an Arkansas tradition — Bill and Hillary Clinton registered for house gifts when they left the White House. An investigation found that they received over $75,000 worth of gifts but did not violate any federal laws.
Add to the Huckaphony’s already sordid and corrupt past, now the news media is questioning Huckster’s judgement and character, because of his association with the televangelist Kenneth Copeland, who has refused to cooperate with a Senate investigation into his ministry’s finances, and Copeland donated a large sum of money to Huckster. Huckster spent the night at Copeland’s 18,000 sq. foot waterfront house. Hmmmm, where did Copeland get all that money to buy a house like that?
The dirt just keeps coming out on the SCARY AND CORRUPT MIKE HUCKSTER!
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/02/08/cbsnews_investigates/main3811187.shtml
Romney has more class and maturity in his little finger than the egomanic Huckaphony will ever have.
If Huckabee is thinking his staying in th race will somehow impress McCain, so he’ll pick Huckaphony as his VP, he is very delusional! No way would McCain choose a known crook (Huckster is on Judicial Watch’s list of Top Ten Most Corrupt Politicians for 2007. Also with 2 dogs, a cat, a ferret, turtles, birds and fish, McCain is obviously an animal lover. And Huckster thinks McCain will take on his scandals?! Such as the incident in which Huck’s son David tortured and hung a dog, and the Huckster hindered the investigation into animal cruelty. And Huck thinks its swell that he eat squirrels he cooked in a popcorn popper! No chance, no way for you to be the nominee or VP, Huckster.
Thank you for your fair reporting! We saw you daily as we watched Romney’s campaign. The
Romney family is wonderful, and we appreciate what Mitt Romney stands for. Best wishes to the Romneys.
Almost everybody who spent enough time with the Romney’s saw that they were sincere, good, loving, amazing people. They had mastered the American Dream and were generous in trying to share this with others. Romney was the best candidate that we have had run in decades. I hope to see him as vice president and then as president in 2012.
Here’s how I see Romneys’s withdrawal:
There were 2 women taken before King Solomon, claiming to both be the mother of one child. Solomon gave the order to get a sword a cut the child in two, and give half to each. But one of the women ssaid, “No! Give the child to the other woman.” At which King Solomon declared the real mother to be the one who wished for the child to live…
Romney is represented by the mother who pleaded for the child to live. Huckabee is represented by the woman who would prefer the child be cut in two.
McCain is not in this story at all.
We will miss you Romney
Hope to see you in 2012!
Go Romney for 2012–and stay in there for 2008 in case Senator McCain slips up! I will still write Romney in this coming Texas Primary.
A picture is worth a thousand words. The photo in the Amarillo globe news on page one of their February 8 ,2008 issue conveniences me that Romney is the way to go. Sincerity, compassion, integrity and love stand out like a sore thumb in that photograph. No one can look at it and believe the man in it is a politician. Romney’s campaign people have two task to do and they should start on them immediately. First get him back in the race tomorrow. Second, tell him to project to the public the man that is shown in the picture. I am not Mormon nor do I plan to be one. However I respect them a great deal. I believe this photo portrays the bible teaching I use to measure a persons character which is ” You shall know them by their fruits.”
McCain McCain McCain! Wooooo hoooooooo!
I appreciate your good comments on Romney. In addition, I think his negative adds weren’t very effective and hurt him as well. Had he stuck to his core values and given more speeches and adds like the “Faith” speech and his final speech at the convention when he announced he was suspending his campaign, I think he would have inspired more people.
I hope he comes back again and that he runs a more postive campaign and sticks to sharing his values that inspire us all.
http://www.graceforgrace.com
The really sad thing that doesn’t get talked about during this campaign:
Why the good guys don’t want to run for President.
When a pastor will publically demean an honest guy like Mitt Romney and hail John McCain, as a man who inspires our country is simply out of wack. These are the same people who redicule GWBush.
Then on the left, we have the Clinton’s and Mike Huckabee. Good grief. . .We hold up to the world that these are the best people we have to represent us? We do have you know some outstanding folks. . .But they don’t want to run. Ask Bill Frist of Tennessee, the current Texas Governor, Orrin Hatch, and the former Senator Santorin. They good guys just don’t want to get smeared!
So we look all around the country, and find ourselves with the Clintons and an African american senator who stands completely on the wrong side of the coin, all though inspiring.
Should have picked MITT,best man for the job,Good luck with $ for Nov.you wont see any$from me.The way you treated Mitt was appaling.
Thank you Carl Cameron for your honest and fair coverage of the presidential campaign.
I know the liberal bloggers want and expect you and other reporters to fall in line with the rest of the media and speak negatively about Mitt Romney. I have yet to see you do that. As I watched, it became clear to me that McCain was treated as the media darling among the candidates, always spoken of as the frontrunner even when he trailed in delegate counts.
I have no doubts that Romney was the one Republican candidate who the liberals feared for the
general election because he had resources and well-run organization to defeat the Democrats.
I don’t think McCain can unite the Republican party. After his nominee, it will remain a party
divided until a serious Republican steps in and viewed as a true conservative. Most members at CPAC support Mitt Romney and he showed that he’s a talented speaker. I thought that was the
best conservative speech since Ronald Reagan. If he continues to be viewed as a viable option after 4 years, as long as he has the support, I have no doubt he will run again.
How sad that his greatest difficulty was being too good of a candidate.
THANKYOU MITT TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FOR GIVING IT YOUR ALL YOU WERE JUST TO GOOD TOBE TRUE YOUR SO CHARMING SMART PATIENT YOU SHINED SO BRIGHT WHAT WRONG WITH PEOPLE THANKYOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK WOULD YOU ACCEPT VP IF ASKED???? THE MEDIA WAS NASTY I THINK MR MCCAIN NEEDS ANGER MANAGEMENT AND THE SUIRREL EATER HUCKABEE NEEDS TO GET A JOB ALL HE DID WAS CRY CAUSE YOU HAD YOUR OWN MONEY HE NEEDS TO GET A REAL JOB NOT JUST IM STILL SAD I HOPE YOU TRY AGAIN OR MAYBE HAVE ALL THE BOYS RUN FOR SENAT OR GOVERNORS ENJOY YOUR FAMILY I LOVED SEEING YOU ALL TOGETHER YOU ARE WHAT AMERICA NEED TO EMULATE THANK ALL MAY GOD BLESS YOU SINCERELY ELAINE A COMMON SENSE REPUBLICAN
Mitt Romney showed he is a smart guy by getting out now. The Democrats are coming out in full force and will overwhelm the Republicans this fall, especially against McCain. If he stayed in, he would have been part of a sinking ship.
By getting out now, Mitt Romney can come back in 2012. Never underestimate Mitt Romney who graduated near the top of his class at Harvard. The Democrats are going to win in the Fall, but will really screw up the country with all their crazy promises. The country will be in such shambles, that the country will need a financial genius such as Mitt Romney to fix it.
Go Mitt 2012.
Thanks, Carl, for the comments on Mitt. I think it could be said that Mitt is not the slick professional politician which, quite frankly, is one of the things that brought us to his side. Another is his willingness to say, “I listened. I learned. I was wrong. I changed my mind.” Of course, his rivals call that flip-flopping. In the business world we call it “continuous improvement”. On the personal level, I’d call it “growth”.
Thank you, Carl, for the awesome job you’ve done of covering the primaries. I do hope your employer recognizes the quality job you do. We always looked forward to you broadcasts with great anticipation.
We appreciate your ability to be “fair and balanced” when the FOX News anchors were not.
Go, Mitt 2012!
Thanks for the positive article on Mitt Romney. I’ve liked him all along and haven’t understood why so many have been quick to criticize and few to be encouraging. I hope he enters the race in 2012; if he does, I’ll support him… if he stays true to himself and the red, white and blue…which to my way of thinking isn’t conservativism but the many faceted needs of America. Since a political tag (like “conservative”) can be misleading, I think that Romney could profit from reading your constructive comments; they strike a very positive note with me. I think they will with him too.
It was good to hear from someone that did spend a lot of time with the campaign that they were genuinely good and professional people. I think many of us questioned if they could really be the “Leave it to Beaver” perfect American family that they seemed to be. It’s refreshing to know that there really are still good people left in the world, and at the same time it is disheartening to know that Mitt will not be in the White House for atleast 4 more years.
Dear God,
Please allow Mitt Romney to come back in 2012, or better yet 2008. I will be writing in ‘Romney’ on my ballot!
Thanks,
Z
I can’t believe that intellectual republicans will allow Mitt Romney to depart the presidential race. He said he was doing the right thing by steping down to avoid rapture of republicans tearing their party apart by debate. Any respectable republican should realize that he is the only electable candidate on either side. Please raise his name repeatably again and again to get him back into the race. Is it nessecary to have delegatory numbers to get the right man for the job? I may be rambling, but I knew a year ago he was the future of 2008 presidential position.
Please bring Mitt Romney back into the race.
I share your take on Romney.
Romney was good at what he did and I share your take about him. I hope he’ll consider running again,he will make a good President.
Regardless of his faults, McCain is almost without doubt the GOP presidential nominee.
I think if he very soon announced Mitt Romney as his running mate that conservatives would rally around the McCain/Romney ticket and immediately gear up for the fight to defeat the Democratic nominee in November.
http://mittromney.townhall.com
What the? Is this post real? Who is the loony who wrote this stuff about Mitt?
It is time to start looking at Huckabee’s Cabinet…
http://thefiresidepost.com/2008/02/08/a-look-at-huckabees-cabinet/
You actually make me chuckle Cameron. Fox News with yourself included marginalized Mitts run on the days before Super Tuesday. Now that he has bowed out of the race you speak of how great and respectful of a man he is. You and your entire network have been hell bent on a McCain nomination from the get go. Just for a heads up Carl, I am a blue collar life long republican, who will never vote for McCain because of his ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AMNESTY STANCE. It truthfully angers me to be catergorized as extreme far right, because I am not. I am mainstream republican. For some reason Fox News and yourself refuse to ask any politician or even hardly mention illegal aliens and the negative impact they have on blue collar working class america. Don’t lump all who oppose McCain into one large pile. Its Ludicrous.
Thanks mitt! WE HAVE NOT SEEN THE LAST OF YOU!
Romney ran a good race until he had to get off his home court…….The reason Romney dropped out was that he did not see any state he could win down the road…I mean the Mormon states and his home states were gone……This guy only won three primaries…Utah, Mass and Michigan…He was a Fox News created candidate…….He spent $100 million dollars to try and look like a conservative.
Ken,
Where on earth did you hear that…?
Mitt won Nevada (bigger than SC), Massachusets, Minnesota, Alaska, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Michigan, Utah, and Maine. He would have had West Virgina, but Huckabee made some slimy backroom deals.
Considering that he came in 2nd in most of the other races, and 3rd in only a few, he was doing totally GREAT outside of the “Mormon” states.
If the media refuses to report the wins, and only tells you the losses, you can hardly accuse them of CREATING Romney. You could, however, accuse them of creating McCain.
Ken:
Romney won the following:
Nevada
Wyoming
Massachusets
Montana
Colorado
Alaska
Michigan
Minnesota
North Dakota
Maine
Utah
You said he won 3 states. He won 11. And came in 2nd in most others.
When the news media refuses to report wins and only reports losses, you do not generally call that being CREATED by the news media.
However, when the media reports someone as the frontrunner, even when that candidate is behind in actual votes and delegates, as McCain was till Super Tuesday, THAT could be called being CREATED by the media…
Ken:
Romney won the following:
Nevada
Wyoming
Massachusets
Montana,
Colorado
Alaska
Michigan
Minnesota
North Dakota

You said he won 3 states. He won 11. And came in 2nd in most others.
When the news media refuses to report wins and only reports losses, you do not generally call that being CREATED by the news media.
However, when the media reports someone as the frontrunner, even when that candidate is behind in actaul votes and delegates, as McCain was most of the time, THAT could be called being CREATED by the media…
Ken:
Romney won 11 states, not 3…
Look it up:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/candidates/#893
I am kindly suggesting that the sources you have believe to be reliable for obtaining information, are clearly not….
Those same sources, the ones that told you Romney had won only 3 states, likely fed you a lot of other misinformation as well.
Campaign carl has been an abomination this election cycle. I truly think he should be tried for treason.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Last week, immediately after Mitt Romney pulled out of the Republican presidential race, we noted that his CPAC address sounded less like a concession speech and more like a bid to become the voice of the culture wing of the GOP.
Darn, we’re good.
Turns out that after the applause died, Romney huddled with “some 50 stalwarts of the political right” to discuss making the former Massachussetts governor “the face of conservatism, as Ronald Reagan became en route to his 1980 election win,” the Washington Times reported this weekend.
Participants at the meeting included Georgia’s Ralph Reed, the former head of the Christian Coalition, and Jay Sekulow of Alpharetta, chief counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, who served as a kind of liaison to evangelicals for the Romney campaign.
“The movement needs someone of Ronald Reagan’s stature and Romney could fill that role,” the Times quoted Sekulow as saying.
The newspaper reported that American Conservative Union Chairman David A. Keene presided over the meeting, in the same hotel where the Conservative Political Action Conference was held.
Others at the meeting included radio talk show host Laura Ingraham; former Reagan White House official Donald J. Devine; Indiana Republican National Committee member James Bopp Jr.; Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilganon; former Sen. Jim Talent of Missouri; Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis; Human Events editor-in-chief Tom Winter; conservative activist Bay Buchanan; Ann Corkery, a Catholic activist; and Rabbi Nate Segal, a Rush Limbaugh associate. Free Congress Foundation President Paul M. Weyrich listened in via phone.
ROMNEY in 2012!
Go Romney 2012! We missed you by THAT MUCH! People caught on too late that Huckabee and McCain’s jabs on his integrity were not real. Romney would be our man if it were not for the evangelical conspiracey theories.
I think many people had buyers remorse after super tuesday and were going toward Romney. I would love to have seen what Romney could have done going all the way to the convention fighting. He probably would never have caught McCain on delegates, but probably would have passed him as him as the new favorite of the GOP. That would have made for an akward GOP split and general election and that’s exactly why he bowed out.
Hey Ken – he won 11 states (States won: MT | AK | ND | UT | MN | CO | MA | ME | NV | MI | WY)
and he took 4 million votes to McCains 4.7 million b4 he dropped out. Do your home work buddy…That’s what bugs me about people who have an agenda – they never tell the truth. Mitt Did! He’ll be back.
11 States won: MT, AK, N, UT, MN, CO, MA, ME, NV, MI, WY – He won 4 mil. votes to MCCain 4.7 mil before he dropped. Get the facts Ken. That was the problem with this election… False rhetoric from people with bigoted agendas.
Ken, where did you get your facts from? You just sound like another uninformed hater. Romney is not created; he is the kind of president we need to deserve first. Until then we have to stop acting like bigots.
Hopefully Americans will realize that Romney was the best choice when they go through a recession with democrats in the next 4 years, and will welcome him back in 2012.
Thanks Carl for a fair post. I almost gave up on reading political news because of unfair coverage on Mitt Romney.
Romney supporters: Email or Call McCain’s campaign and urge him to choose Mitt for VP!!
I did……..Best of both worlds One strong on National Defense, One strong on Economy,
a great match!
Romney won 11 states….
Romney won Colorado, Alaska, Montana, Nevada, Michigan, Utah, Massachusettes, Wyoming, West Virginia (then Huckabee stole that one with Help from McCain), Minnesota, and Maine. He would have won more if he stayed in the race.
I will continue to believe that Gov. Romney is the only choice for me to vote for the next Pres. of our beloved USA! I am an independent voter and regardless of his suspension I will vote for him in primaries, at the elections, and any other way that I can. Of course this is a free country and everyone has a perspective on who will be the best Commander in Chief and its a personal decision. However, I know that Gov. Romney presents himself as a dignified honorable politican who understands and has experience changing the intolerable ways of current office holders into workable, viable, reasonable and responsible methods to bring our country back to safety, security, economic power, and he will see to it that it is done in a respectful postive regard for all. As an independent voter for the past 5 decades I will vote republican for the first time in my life and would write in John Edwards for Vice President. I just do not comprehend how any voter can vote a straight party ticket regardless of who is their candidate. Barack Obama appears steadfast as a motivational speaker and as a campaigner however I am still waiting to hear specifics of what he will actually do to resolve any issues in a detailed committed reply. Hillary Clinton seems to be motivated to run for office but I am concerned about her hidden agendas that she infers but never explains such as her turf war with Gore and other politicans. McCain is indeed an honorable vet and politican however he appears to snide at politicans that disagree with him and I am concerned that what appears to be Post Trauma Stress Disorder will impede his abilities as Pres. Huckabee appears to be on the pulpit one day and off the next so his inconsistency in his beliefs and committments are not what I want a President to use when he has conflicts or major debates with any other policitan or world leader. He is a people pleaser but not a viable candidate for Commander and Chief of our First Nation or anywhere else except his pulpit.
Campaign Carl, you got it right!! I voted for Mitt in today’s VA primary as a matter of principle. Mitt learns from his experiences. Now that he has gained a presence on the national stage he is here to stay. Never underestimate Mitt (unless you are a Democrat…then go ahead). The unsurpassed organization and execution of his campaign is indicative of the type of administration he will have 2012. By then we ought to have even bigger problems for Mitt to solve. Hold your head up, Mitt! You took the high road and in 2012 that road will take you to the White House.
Looking forward to 2012, Go Romney!
Massachusetts voted for you again!
Mitt Romney was awarded the Right to Life award while Governor of MA.
Mitt Romney balanced the budget in MA.
YES, Mitt did spend some of his OWN money, money that he EARNED the hard way- he worked for it!
Ken, I suggest you look at his record as Governor of Massachusetts the state where he overwhelming won the primary.
Good analogy, Carol. I think it tells the siutation perfectly.
Romney dropped out of the race to pave the way for McCain to win the ultimate election. Let’s not let Romney’s personal sacrifice for his party go to waste!. Whatever enthusiasm, dedication, financial support we had going to Romney, let us give to McCain.
Go McCain!!!
If Mike Huckabee had made racial comments about a leading black
candidate or sexist comments about a leading female candidate, he
would have been castigated by the media. How he was able to topple
Romney’s campaign with religious bigotry is dumbfounding to me. It
seems that everyone is oblivious to the obvious.
Now that Mitt Romney is out of the race for the GOP nomination,
history will show that Mike Huckabee pulled off the political crime
of the century. It was Mike Huckabee that raised religious issues
among Iowa evangelicals by comments toward Romney’s religion.
As Huckabee’s tactics started to show in the Iowa polls, Mitt
responded with his “Faith in America” speech. Romney was then forced
to work on damage control. Romney’s efforts in Iowa payed off and he
continued to rise back in the polls but the damage gave him a second
in a state he held firmly until Huckabee’s misuse of the public
forum.
McCain saw his window and concentrated on New Hampshire while Romney
was being unduly “occupied” in Iowa. Romney was forced to agressively
address things detracting from what his positive messaging had been
and did so famously. Romney then relied on comparison ads to contrast
differences. These ads were constantly referred to as “attack ads” by
Huckabee, who continually portrayed him as “desperate”, and
“attacking”.
Then Huckabee, and John McCain for that matter, was able to
capitalize on such tactics. Because of Huckabee’s misleading of the
majority evangelical state of Iowa and with the ignorance of the
media toward the Mormon religion, he flew under the radar of a nation
that has worked since Lincoln to erase such bigotry.
A majority of the nation now sees only that Mike Huckabee won the
Iowa caucus and that John McCain began his comeback by winning the
New Hampshire primary yet know nothing of the back story. I think it
important to present it. Observe for yourself and pass these
perspectives along. America was robbed of a president that would have
been a TRUE man for change with a proven record of turning things
around in the oval office.
“What would have been…” is how this campaign will be characterized.
Stories will be told without the media and dirty political agendas and
America will come to know the authenticity and integrity of Mitt
Romney. My only hope is that he finds the determination to try again
in four years.
I’ll take a “Wall Street Republican” any day over a “Wal-mart Republican.” I’d like our country to shoot for the stars rather than settle for the way it is. I hope to see Romney again in four years. He is a brilliant executive.
I only see a conservative as one that has voted conservatively for more than a few years. Mitt Romney’s own words nailed it for me. He voted independent against Reagan according to him, he was pro choice then pro life then pro choice but he wanted me to believe he was a pro lifer. I have nothing in common with a man that doesn’t have a clear record, is a Morman and able to spend 34 million without blinking on becoming President.
He is way out of touch with the grassroots Republicans.
Those who are thinking of supporting McCain because they have no choice might want to look here first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y395Tftgz0E
I’m a Mitt supporter and I actually felt him dropping out was the right thing to do. I mean, he had the Bigot (Huck) bashing him on religous grounds and then he had the politician McCain teaming up with Huck to make sure he would get any ground. Not to mention the media was just showing McCain as the front runner- of course the media knows McCain will lose.. sigh. Hmmm how many hundreds of millions of dollars worth of free positive media converage did McCain get…
Well, good for Mitt though, he got name recognition, and I just hope people will remember him come 12′.
And as for “Ken”’s comment “He spent $100 million dollars”… what other canidate has raised that much money? Who else that is running has been able to use millions of their own wealth and not feel tight on money- I mean- I sure don’t want a person who can’t generate wealth to be incharge of the wealth of America, it’s just dumb.
When Mitt Romney’s campaign was in full swing posts ‘exposing’ the Mormons clogged the campaign blogs and comments. Anti-Mormon messages morphed out of nowhere like mushrooms after a rain storm. LDS authorities seemed astonished at the intensity of the criticism…

I voted for Gov Romney today in Virginia…..I’m fed up with the media and McCain saying that the military and retired military support him! I’m retired military and a Federal employee and will never support McCain.
I don’t know anybody that supports McCain and we are all military, law enforcement.
This is a loss for true Republicans! McCain will be a squishy moderate and sell out on every issue!
Cameon,
Your article was great. I can attest that Mitt (and his family)is all you claim him to be. I had the pleasure of hosting him and his wonderful family in my home in Framingham, Ma. for a fundraiser a friend was organizing for him back in the 90’s. Up close and personal. He IS perfect. Successful, family values, smarts, looks, charisma, business acumen… you name it he’s got it. Pray that this country survives the next four years and hope that Mitt gets back in the mix. For the first time I can remember, I don’t think I can vote in November. God help America!
I was disappointed that Mitt Romney suspended his campaign. His speech last week was excellent. He and his wife would have done America and the western world proud as a presidential couple. Without him the republican presidential race has become dull and uninteresting. As an international viewer I hope that this is not the last we hear of Mitt Romney. We look forward to 2012!
Interesting insight. A text book campaign, a ton of money, and he still wasn’t able to secure enough victories early in the campaign. That tells me that the Republican party is making the right choice for the general election. Romney just didn’t have enough appeal this time around. Maybe in 2012, maybe not. Only time will tell.
Carl, you hit the nail right on the head! Without a doubt, governor Romney has estalished a very strong group of supporters and in my opinion and the opinions of many people as evidenced by listenening to folks air their comments, too many are sickened that he was railroaded off the campaign trail.
A huge mass of people were enthusiastic Romney supporters! How many times I have heard people say, not only on the talk shows, but in public places, supermarkets department stores, repair shops, on blogs and even during business meetings, that Governor Romney was their man, a true leader and should have been the next president! The proof is in the pudding and as you mentioned, his professionalism, his campaign, his family and his life in general are proof positive that Governor Romney is the man that should have been leading this country in 2008!
To even put him in the same category as the Democratic rivals is like setting a Rolls Royce in a showroom full of Hyundai’s. He is a proven professional and exudes tremendous success. Romney provides far more than rhetoric without substance.
Unfortunately, a good speaker can encourage people to follow, but where will they go without a proven record of experience and direction? It will be like Moses leading the people into the “promised land” where they searched and wandered for forty years.
It’s just very unfortunate that only “thinkers” are capable of recognizing a true leader! Too many Americans are like puppets and do exactly what the “other guy” tells them to do. They just follow the crowd and never use their heads.
Scott, in reference to your comment, don’t forget the mix of politicians like Florida’s Governor Crist, endorsing HIS choice to guarantee himself a spot in the nations’s capitol. He’s never in Florida anymore. If you notice all McCain’s appearances, you will notice Florida’s Governor Crist in the background behind McCain. Surprised? Not me. If you think this process is fair, think again! I have also been told that politicians (not to mention any names) had a hand in initiating phone calls by the PBA endorsing McCain only days before the Florida Primary. These people should not have been involved nor should the RPOF, that I was told, implemented this process. The majority of people wait for someone else to tell them what to do because they are incapable of thinking for themselves.
Romney had minimal press nationwide while McCain received far more exposure. Even Huckabee received more press than Romney. The liberals even endorsed Huckabee because they felt if he won, they could take him out by exposing all the information and dirt about him and his family, as submitted by Shelby. This is not unpublished information.
Huckabee is not the kind, caring Christian he sets himself up to be. In spite of all this interferrence and manipulation by team McCain/Huckabee against the Romney campaign, Governor Romney still gained a significant portion of the vote. The liberals were scared to death of him and they schemed long and hard to have him eliminated! They knew that if the rubber hit the road, Romney would gain the confidence of the people. He is far more intelligent, articulate, professional, experienced and has a proven track record showing success of his ability.
When I first listened to Huckabee, I thought he was a very good candidate. I liked him. I too am a Christian, however, as time went on and I continued to listen to him, my spirit of discernment sent up red flags about his honesty and intent. Don’t trust my comments, just check his history and listen closely to his words. Shelby left some links that are all corroborated. I found numerous other sites that addressed all those issues just by searching the internet. Huckabee aligned himself with McCain to to eliminate Romney and look for favor as VP for McCain. It’s so obvious, it can’t be denied, at least not with substantial validity.
Unfortunately, the “best man” doesn’t always get the job!
