An objective review of the situation indicates that no one truly believed that this would be a problem in December. Florida and Michigan sought to get a piece of the campaign dollar pie by moving up their primaries. While this may have been a good idea for the 46 states which are left out of the Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada windfall, the traditionalists at the DNC wanted to protect the big four, thus the penalties for leapfrogging everyone else. Conventional wisdom said at the time that Clinton would have the nomination won and the Florida and Michigan delegations would be seated for the sake of party unity and the penalties would be resolved by the winning candidate, in their view Clinton, seating the delegates through the appropriate committees at the conventions. That neither candidate objected initially, but abided by the DNC ruling, indicates that they too believed that the nomination would be won before this became an issue of such importance.
Then along came the Obama train which swept Clinton off the track of certain victory. Conventional wisdom was thrown out the door. The DNC has found itself in a very difficult position. Changing the rules in the middle of the game is fundamentally unAmerican. Seating the delegates undermines the integrity of the DNC and its rules committee. Such an action would drive away new supporters to the party who are looking for “change” but see the same old politics as usual. Clinton is now desperate to add the delegates from Florida and Michigan to her tally in an effort to stop Obama’s momentum and restore her sagging hopes of leading the delegate count going into the convention. Clinton’s argument that she won is not genuine, she knows that there was no campaigning in either state and that Obama’s name was not on the ballot in Michigan. The simple fact is that when she has held big leads in a state, Obama has closed that lead with his campaign style and the same would have been true in Michigan and Florida. She may have won both of those states in a hard fought campaign, but not nearly by the margin she did. In Michigan she forgets that none of the above, undecided, polled over 30% statewide. Obama on the other hand can not claim either state and thus can not say that his nomination is the true will of the people. Florida is a very important swing state for the Democrats and he needs to show that he can make a serious effort to win that state should he be the ultimate nominee.
The solution is simple. Both states need to hold a closed primary to be held two weeks after the Pennsylvania primary. The primaries need to be closed so that they are not influenced by cross over Republican voters seeking to make mischief. Two weeks gives ample time to campaign and with the decision being made sooner rather than later, the two campaigns can adequately organize and allocate their resources. They need to be held on the same day so that neither state has an advantage over the other. The DNC, and each of the two campaigns should bear one-third of the costs. The taxpayers didn’t create this problem; the short sighted DNC and the scorched earth campaigning by the candidates have created this monster and they should pay for the solution. Both candidates have raised record amounts, 80 million dollars in February alone. The DNC has a 20 million dollar war chest. If the Democrats want to be a party of change, then change within the rules, provide a level playing field for both candidates, and spare the taxpayers the costs.

Does anybody remember the Boston Tea Party which occurred because of taxation without representation. It is a constitutional breach to strip people of their right to vote. This has to be settled and the inept politicians who took away our rights should be sanctioned! The justices of the Supreme Court will have to get involved to make a decision if we don’t work this out ourselves. The sooner the better!!!

I couldn’t agree with you more. Having a re-do is like trying to re-write history. How can you have just two states who get a second chance to re-think who they voted for the first time? What about all the other people from other states who knew that Florida and Michigan wouldn’t count and took this into consideration for the candidate that they voted for? What about the other candidates that were in the race at the time of the voting in those states? If there is to be a re-do, it must happen across all states, with all candidates back in play, which is to say it can’t happen at all because of the impracticality of it. To have a re-do just for two candidates is just plain wrong.

Now I am hearing that the DNC, the candidates and the states need to decide how to fix this in a “fair” way. Once again, it appears the voters will have no say in how the matter is resolved. The candidates must agree on the fix. This is a no-win situation no matter how you look at it.

As much as I hate to say it, the only “fair” way is to play the hand that was dealt to all parties at the time, which is that Florida and Michigan don’t count.
By the way, I have heard conflicting information regarding the seating of the “super” delegates from these states. Does anyone know for sure if the “super” delegates are going to count if the “regular” delegates don’t?

Boo-Hoo testosterone boy!! Our votes should of counted to begin with and it’s obvious from all you estrogen feared males out there that we need a female President and we were lucky enough to hit the jack pot with a brilliant woman with extremely strong leadership abilities!

Obama still has yet to recognize the Florida voters efforts in January. Both on the ballot and should stand and just aware the delegates. DNC would deserve to lose the election if FL is not recognized, however this is just what the Republican Governor wants anyway, sad and may be illegal.
Michigan may require a fire type PRIMARY so all voters can express their wishes, this is doable and financially feasible.

Obama still has yet to recognize the voters of florida and Michigan, really sad and obvious.

Based on the comments, here is what I see:
1. MI and FLA voters were allowed to cross over and a redo would result in their casting votes twice which disenfranchises all the voters in the remaining 48 states.
2. MI and FLA voters were disenfranchised not by the DNC rather by their state legislators.
3. MI and FLA voters should not be allowed to re-vote as it violates the rules and it disenfranchises the other candidates who equally qualified and who have since dropped out of the race. Maybe one of them could have changed the outcome.
4. MI and FLA voters seem more concerned about the minority voters being disenfranchised?
5. Based on local and state primaries all across the country for many, many years, voters do not perform their civic duty and actually vote, whether in the primaries or general elections. Turnout is low. If people were really concerned, they would be more actively informed about what their elected officials are doing and if they weren’t happy with them, either voice their concerns or vote them out of office.

The issue of a re-vote is moot. We should unify our election process, primaries not the caucuses, one vote for one person and all use the same ballot system. Let’s move forward.

Is it true that the only two states to not have more Democrats show up to the polls than Republicans are Florida and Michigan? If this is the case, wouldn’t it lead you to the conclusion that many Democrats didn’t show up to vote because they were told their votes wouldn’t count? I believe this is what is referred to as “voting irregularities”. If this is the case, wouldn’t it be wrong to allow the votes to stand as they now do from those two states?

We all must admit the DNC screwed up. Why would the DNC knowingly discount the votes in these two states? Don’t they remember the mantra in 2000 of “EVERY Vote MUST count!”? To all Concerned Citizens

The matter of arranging an (after the fact) compromise to seat delegates from Florida and Michigan is obviously going to be significant. There are known guilty parties, specifically the party hacks from those offending states, who instigated the movement to ignore the rules handed down by DNC.
It was not the populations of Florida and Michigan who chose to initiate primary actions there. It was the officials with enough authority, and more than enough ego, who thought they were supreme over the rest of the country. Since the obvious perpetrators can easily be identified it should be placed on their shoulders to finance the band-aids that they are crying for now. It is patently unfair to spread the blame to others who had no part in breaking the rules, just as it would be unfair to jail the entire family of someone convicted of murder.
Therefore, I suggest you publish the names of those officials, indicate that if they are willing to personally pay for the costs of giving their State’s Citizens the voting rights they should never have been deprived of, that DNC and both candidates for Nominee of the Democratic party would participate in those re-designed elections. Oh, and by the way, if this situation does not lend itself to a fair and equal conclusion, I believe it should be made publicly clear to the Clinton camp they will not be allowed to count the delegates from those disenfranchised States.

1. The DNC made a stupid decision - with which Clinton and others agreed.
2. No one campaigned in MI or FL.
3. Clinton won just over 50% in MI - against “uncommitted”
4. Clinton insists results should be counted “for the people” - a position I’m sure would be different if she were well ahead at this time.
5. For many reasons the results can’t now be accepted or re-done and pretend it never happened.

1. A re-do of MI and FL won’t make any significant difference in cutting into the pledged delgate lead that Obama has, so why bother. Look at Clinton’s “stunning” wins in OH and TX - she picked up a net of about 9 delegates.
2. Clinton knows this, but only wants the “wins” in her column to twist the arms of the uncommitted superdelegates to ignore Obama’s majoriy of pledged delegates and throw the nomination to her instead. No one has ever accused the Clintons of not using every ploy in the book to get what they want - regardless of what is fair or ethical.

I can understand a redo in Michigan as only Hillary and Kucinich where on the ballot there at the time.
I see no reason to have a redo in Florida as everyone was on the ballot. Its done accept it.

The Florida and Michigan vote must stand as is or this country will be doing the unthinkable. Our forefathers are rolling in their graves right now. The DNC is illegally canceling the votes of millions of people. The right to vote and have your vote count is one of the most defining principles of the United States of America. Other countries have monitors to insure that their elections and legal. That is what we need now. Let the DNC be dammed. The constitution overrides any idiotic rules that the DNC has. That is the problem with the democrats. They want to turn this country into big government. They want to tell you when to eat, go to the bathroom and go to sleep and they want to tax for the privilege of telling you what to do. All the democrats follow their dictators like sheep to slaughter. We are the people and the government works for us not the other way around.

As I have said before. If the DNC does not count the votes and refuses to seat the delegates then all of the democrat voters should turn their back on the DNC. When the general election comes around then you need to stay home or vote for McCain.

McCain is so honest it hard to believe that he is real. He tells us the truth regardless if we like the truth or not. But there it is right in your face. Why would we vote for someone who tells you just what you want to hear? Do you really believe that they can come through with their campaign promises? The president just can’t make changes. It has to be voted in by the senate and the house. Wake up and think about it. Congress has more power than the president.

Rules are rules! If they can’t follow the rules now, what other rules will they change when it fits their needs. The “RIGHTS OF SUFFRAGE” needs to be reformed. National elections should be the same state to state and Independents should be included in all states. Gringo. Obama wants universal heath that leaves out a high percentage of people and Clinton’s does not. Think about this. Do you pay taxes? How much is taken out of your paychecks for taxes? Do you know the percentage. I have almost 35% taken out for federal, state and social security and then I have money taken for health care and a 401k. I would say I am just under middle class in this economy and I work very hard. I have to take what is left out of my paycheck that has already been raped by the government to pay a mortgage, food, utilities and of course to pay for the dr bills that I owe after my heath plan pays. After all this I have nothing left for entertainment except for the Internet.

Obamas way we will pay for the people that do not buy health care. It will come out of our pockets so they can sit back and not worry about money coming out of their checks. That is if they are even working. So Hillary’s way we all pay for our own needs. Obamas way we pay for our own and they those that don’t want to pay. So I would rather see all Americans paying something than some Americans paying all why others sit back and enjoy life.

I have a family member that gets welfare. I am not proud and definitely upset for how much money she gets free and clear. She is living better than I am. She gets money for every thing. Where I am struggling to make it, she gets her utilities paid, help with rent and free food. It makes you wonder who has the best life. Before we go to any kind of national health care system that involves tax payers, shouldn’t we reduce the number of people who don’t have health insurance by forcing billion $ a year companies like McDonalds who do not provide insurance for part time workers? Or at the very least, increase their corporate taxes to cover their own employees. Tax payers shouldn’t have to cover for bill for these employees so that these corps can increase their profits. If we can reduce the number of people who need it by these and other means, it will bring the national heath care much more obtainable.

True Leadership Inspires. The problem in America is too many reality shows! These cat fights are Hillary’s attempt to take the country off of the fact that she really has no experience and people just do not like her as a leader. If America does not become inspired and united. ….we will simply remain a divided nation by race, gender, political party and religion.

Everyone knows you are not suppose to change the rules in the middle of the game. Hillary agreed not to count the delagates in Florida and Michigan-now she needs to stick with it. The definition of character is moral strength. In my opinion her try to change for own selfish needs shows her lack of character. And yes I do not like Hillary and yes it is personal. I do not like how they triied to destroy Monica L. I know she was 21, and yes she made some dumb choices, but to try and make her out to be a stalking pysho was pathetic. People who will do ANYTHING for power in my humble opinion lack moral character, or call it whatever you want right, decent, proper, just call it what it was just plain wrong. I don’t think they should do a re-vote. Florida and Michigan knew that their votes weren’t going to count, so did Hilliary and Barack. They should have fought it before the election. I don’t even listen to then when they talk. I’m not always happy with either party but I would vote for a Republican before I would vote for a Democrat. John McCain is not boring.
