Tax Day and McCain has some Tax Break Proposals for You.
Pittsburgh, PA:
John McCain makes a populist economic pitch and offers some relief today at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
The gas tax holiday is part of the short term economic stimulus plan, he will push in Congress as a senator this year, but he has long term plans for his presidency too.
“I will send to Congress a reform to increase the exemption – with the goal of doubling it from 3,500 dollars to 7,000 dollars for every dependent, in every family in America”.
McCain would eliminate the alternative minimum tax entirely.
“I will also send to the Congress a middle-class tax cut – a complete phase-out of the Alternative Minimum Tax to save more than 25 million middle-class families more than 2,000 dollars every year.”
There is help on the way for small businesses too:
“I will send to Congress a proposal to cut the taxes these employers pay, from a rate of 35 to 25 percent”.
Young people can look forward to changes in the student loan program designed to make college more affordable.
To pay for it all McCain would freeze non-military & veteran discretionary spending and begin a “prompt and thorough review” of the budgets of every federal program, department and agency. McCain says it will save $100 billion a year.
He’d reform the Medicare Rx drug benefit by charging more to wealthier patients.
“Those who can afford to buy their own prescription drugs should be expected to do so.”
He’d form a Bipartisan commission on reforming social security and medicare and says all options including privatization are on the table.
He hit both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s plans to let the Bush tax cuts expire which he says would amount to the biggest tax hike since the Great Depression.
” All these tax increases are the fine print under the slogan of “hope”: They’re going to raise your taxes by thousands of $s per year – & they have the audacity to hope you don’t mind”.
He slammed both Democrats for opposing free trade and the Columbian Free Trade Agreement
“We can compete with anyone. Senators Obama and Clinton think we should hide behind walls, bury our heads and industries in the sand, and hope we have enough left to live on while the world passes us by”
But he also criticizes the GOP for congressional pork barrel spending and President Bush for not using his veto pen enough.
“For Republicans, it starts with reclaiming our good name as the party of spending restraint. Somewhere along the way, too many Republicans in Congress became indistinguishable from the big-spending Democrats they used to oppose. The only power of government that could stop them was the power of veto, and it was rarely used.”
More to come as Tax Day 2008 unfolds.

Way to go John…it’s a great start to a new kind of thinking–that America sorely needs…as many Americans are considering careening down a road towards socialism that is un-HOPEFUL, un-American–and definitely the responsible approach towards continuing the vision of American our founding fathers intended.
Sadly…Obama doesn’t seem to get around to mentioning how many Americans have prospered on paper in the 401K’s and mutual funds—from the benefits of global trade–and how many new industries have blossomed in previously poor states. Economic problems are hitting the world over–this isn’t the first time in our history this has happened–and it won’t be the last.
What has changed–is the mind set of Americans–that rather than retraining, relocating, upgrading skills, start a cottage business, a scond job –and other personally responsible approaches to economic decline–they’re all running to the government and a new socialist scheme to find them work, and create a quality of life based on economic conditions that is more favorable to them–supposedly.
Obama is tapping into this sick mindset–that promises to only increase governments tyrannical control over the economy and social issues–and ultimately reducing the quality of life for all of us.
If socialism were the answer–the USSR would have succeeded.
I like this so far. And with McCain, at least, based on his 30 year track record, he is good for his word and he has a good chance of accomplishing this goal.
Bush’s tax cuts for the rich has increased the federal deficit from 5 trillion to approaching 10 trillion this year. At 3-5% interest, the American taxpayers each year are shelling out 300-500 billion dollars in taxes just to pay the interest on 10 trillion dollars worth of federal debt. Return the former tax rates to the rich and our soldiers from Iraq. President Bush has been a disaster for everyone but the very rich.
Thomas – Bush should have lowered taxes like he did, however, he should have cut spending and cut red tape, regulation and shrunk Government and Government programs by 50%, but he didn’t. He did make a mistake in that he did not cut spending at the time time as cutting certain taxes. So you can’t use that elitist, socialist broad blanket allegation of “cutting taxes for the rich caused a deficit of 5 trillion”….bullcrap. By the way, its the “rich” and its the large companies who keep people working and off of the street because of the jobs which they create for poor attitude hippies such as yourself. You just have a chip on your shoulder because you want something for free and you don’t want to work for it and then you blame “big business” for your troubles which means that you are gutless and cannot find it within yourself to create your own business or industry so you come out with such childish, ignorant remarks. I bet you never owned your own business in your entire life Thomas…have you….you bottom feeding, piece of hippy crap.
Hey Thomas, you gutless, hippy, you sound just like one of the communist professors at Berkeley teaching young sponge like minds bad economics. Well, this might shock your pot smokin’ ass, I hope Exxon grows by 300% within the next two years, and I hope IBM and Microsoft and Coca-Cola and Pepsi and Virgin Air, Shell, BP, Halliburtin…..etc……etc……..etc…..grow within the next two years by 400% because small business will grow by 300% to 400% with these companies as well. We want money to start flowing freely from business to business and community to community. I hope all affirmative action is ceased ASAP and highering quotas are killed once and for all and I hope that taxes are cut by 75% across the board with regard to state, federal and local taxes. After this is done, you’ll see a robust economy like you have never seen before and then we would have all the money we ever wanted to fund our war efforts around the world for the next 100 years in order to prevent the wicked enemies from gaining a foothold on America’s way of life, resources and standard of living. So go take your hippy, Berkeley, leftist ass off of this board and move down to Cuba where you belong if socialism and dictatorship is so much better for you from your point of view.
Substance Abuse
A widely forwarded e-mail claims that Obama’s bills are more substantive and numerous than Clinton’s. Don’t believe it.
Obama’s Oil Spill
Obama says he doesn’t take money from oil companies. We say that’s a little too slick.

They are the same kind or type of people.
It is up to you now to decide what is best for our country.
“Birds of the same feathers flock together.”
“Tell me your friends are, and I tell you who you are.”
What a scary thought ahead for our country…
Think people… think…
to Make Iran Glow…
Don’t suppress those emotions man…just let it all out.
Judging solely on this article, McCain is “getting it”!
The Democrats point out jobs being lost, gas prices increasing, the dollar shrinking and people are going broke. All these are true and obvious! Their plan is to take a little more from you.
At least McCain is trying to let us keep a few bucks!
“Lo Anne” – You are correct, McCain is getting it. And you are right on point with what you have to say about it.
Forgive me I meant to say “Jo Anne”, not “Lo Anne”. Sorry.
Make Iran Glow.
Thank you.
All the pretty speeches won’t pain that picture any other way.
The Dems are telling us to our faces they “will” raise taxes.
oops, “paint” the picture.
As a native of PA, i’ve been deeply offended by Obama’s comment.
Rev. Wright, Michelle Obama and now his own words. I love my country and i want the best for my country. Obama and i think are on the opposite ends of that issue.
HUNTING DUCKS WITH SIX-SHOOTER?
Never did before, but will give it a shot.
I think hillary is going to carry PA by atleast “17 POINTS”. thats my prediction.
Hillary: 58%
Obama: 41%
I have decided to give up my GE stocks. I already boycotted NBC and its affiliates. Can’t feed the organization who might be responsible for the american casualities in Iraq.
I hope everybody boycott’s NBC and its affiliates. SAY NO TO “GE” PRODUCTS.
I am not a Hillary or Obama supporter, but the Democrats are going to have a real hard pitch at convention time making an argument to allow Obama get the nomination even if he has more delegates going into the convention. The reason why, is that Obama earned his status prior to all of the allegations of Reverand Wright, Rezko, Ayers, elitist comments, Michelle Obama’s comments…etc..etc…
If the primaries began from “SCRATCH” today, and all of the states who already had their primaries and caucuses, were to have it all over again, no one would hear about Obama ever again and this would be a race between Hillary and Edwards, not Obama. Obama wouldn’t get over single digits and these votes would merely be from a small voting block which are the black voters.
Therefore, the delegates need to consider the momentum factor and the fact that Obama did all of his damage to Hillary early on, and since Obama’s background has been exposed, Obama has slid and slid with America and now America has a new interpretation of Obama which they did not have two months ago. Now we know that the only people who will support Obama at this point in time with overwhelming numbers are the black voters, but cross-overs, independents and Veterans, who may have normally voted before Obama prior to Obama’s discusting revelations, will vote for McCain.
Therefore, the Democratic Party has allot to think about because, depsite Obama going into the convention with more alleged delegates, this still has no bearing on Obama’s ability to take the general election because he doesn’t have a shot…..and its only going to get far worse for Obama.
As a Conservative looking from the outside into the Democratic side, I have to say that the Democratic Party would have to be out of their minds to choose Obama to represent their ticket.

You are so right. Unbelievable how people cannot recognize that the government at all levels is so inefficient from a fiscal perspective. It is the businesses, large and small in this country, that make our economy what it is by providing the jobs that we all need. Even France has realized that socialism is not the panacea that so many thought it was.
Why does Fxnews find pleasure in “DEMEANING” the democratic presidential candidates is the subject of the talking points. FOR EXAMPLE:
“Hillary clinging to 6 point lead” is the headline on the Fxnews website. i juct checked rasmussen poll, where she is up by 9 points, ARG puts her by 20 points. The other instance being Dick Morris. This man is so full of hate, its amazing he gets a chance to express it. Foxnews should fire him and hire somebody who is reasonable. I like Karl Rove. I think he is a great asset to foxnews.
Also this morning in a debate between demcrat and repblican, they never mentioned that Liz (something lasst name) is a democratic strategist supporting obama. she was asked to give opinion about the demcratic party, when its obvious she is tilted towards her candidate. Hide and Seek is never good. Make things crystal clear for people.
Barrack has become a pinata for fox news anchor. I feel sorry to see him and hillary being bashed almost every night.
I WANT TO FIX HILLARY CLINTON FOR STAYING WITH BILL WHEN SHE SHOULD HAVE DIVORCED HIM OVER:
1. HIS ANTIMASTURBATION
2. HIS CHEATING ADULTERY
ALSO IM AGAINST HER NOT LISTENING TO ME ABOUT VOTING AGAINST THE ANTI POKER BILL (PHONE CALLS, LETTERS) AND RECEIVING FUNDING FROM HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES WHEN THEY ARE ALREADY OVERCHARGING AND AGE DISCRIMINATING. I ALSO BELIEVE LIKE JOE LIEBERMAN THAT BILL CLINTON SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPEACHED AFTER ILLEGALLY CHEATING ON HIS WIFE.
Looking forward to the day McCain steps into office. Hope he lives up to these lofty goals!
Well Mr. Hannity has tried to get Ayers to come on Fox News but he won’t…..
I believe Senator McCain will do just exactly what he said he would do…..
I am VERY leary of Obama. Something about him don’t add up….Oh….
Obama has just started wearing an American pin on his suit…….
WOW…..I had rather be hunting, then have to listen to Obamas’ yarns……
We have a HUGE national deficit, Medicare and Social Security are going bankrupt and these problems are increasing exponentially…. why would we cut taxes. Once the government spending is cut down (which won’t happen as long as we’re funding multiple wars, and our school and business development funding is falling way behind every other nation) I would love to cut taxes, I hate paying taxes, but you don’t cut taxes first.. and then try to shrink expenses… thats what got us where we are today. McCain’s plan is moronic, a gas tax elimination? That gas tax money is the money that funds road construction and fixing our falling bridges…. we need to use that money to work on building infrastructure, put some of these construction companies which are struggling because of the housing slow down, to work. Thats how you get money back in the economy. People who are losing their house… aren’t just short $600.
I encourage everyone to stop being so shortsighted. A year from now no matter who wins the presidency, we have wars, economic problems, and who knows what. Stop spending so much time on, Rev Wright, and stupid stuff. Stop clapping like trained seals for the words tax cut, and look at the big picture. I think Obama and Clinton both need to explain there plan more.. because what I’ve heard its alot of promises but not alot of meat. But to say McCain’s plan is good… is really, just…. wrong.
Oh wait now I get how it works
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aHJT1Ol0iE
according to McCain our economic problems are just psychological. We may have falling wages, record forclosures, and are letting China buy up half our country. But Johnny Mc says those problems are just all in our head. We can’t afford to have John McCain in the white house.
You are totally correct M. Period,
OBAMA OR HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO TO MCCAIN
This web site suck! Aim a 22 year old white boy,I have to say, listening to these response it sound like a lot of old white bitter people who don’t have job. They hate black people so much that they don’t care that this country is going to hell in a basket. I hope you get McCain, and watch how are country go bankrupt. Vote Obama 08
for those dems when are you going to wake up and discuss the issues not just he said she said the debate was a joke . them dems have had the house and senate and the jobs are leaving rember billy your hero signed the free trade the unions are backing the wrong party look where labor is union what unions? toss the bums out that means all of them they only think of their own ass. to hell with us once they are in office.
Liberals if you dont know your history you are bound to repeat it.
Quit listening to a sound bite and do some research.
1. 75% of the national debt was created by 40 years of Democartic Control of Congress.
2. The first Congress to balance the budget was Republican controlled.
3. The only Constitutional right to tax the american people is to raise an army to provide for the common defence. Entitlements are not listed in the constitution.
4. The party that fought for civil liberites for African Americans in the 60’s was the republican party. The democrats followed Al Gore Sr and Robert Byrd (KKK member) to keep the status the same.
5. Government control of anything is always the most expensive way to do anything. Democarts want to the government to control everything. There for by voting for Democrats you are voting the most expensive possible plan.
6. Corporations and business are the american economy. How many people do you know that don’t work for either a corporation, limited partnership, sole proprietorship, etc. If you know any that means they are self-employed and more that likely providing jobs. The more money these entities are charged in taxes means the less that they can pay you and your friends, because nobody goes into business to lose money. Do you actually think that the owners of the entities will asorb tax raises. No they will pass the buck by increasing the cost of products (inflation) or decrease the amount of expeces they inccur (Unemployment). The oposite happens when taxes are cut. When these people who own buisnesses, stock, and other investments have more capital they invest it, this is how they got to the economic position they are in now. This investment creates jobs for you and your friends so that you don’t have to rely on government to provide everything for you. Democrats and Liberal Poloticians do not want you self sufficient they want you to need them for everything. Remember, once a poor person starts to suceed, he now has to pay into the system instead of drain the system. Once that person sees what is being ripped out of the check the worked his tail off for, He will be a conservative, just like me and will vote republican. Knowing this why would a liberal help anybody out of poverty, It alone deminishes there power.
Obama speaks of change.the only change most of us will see is our paychecks will be reduced to”change”. Who is going to pay for this stroll to the Garden of
eden ? Obama is a man on a mission, just whose mission is it? He seems to be a self appointed saver of mankind. Or is he? I knew when he was the keynote speaker at the last democratic convention he was being groomed by someone to run for President in the near future. Kinda makes me think of ” The Manchurian Candidate”. I live in the great state of Florida and since our vote doesn’t count in this ” count every vote Democratic party”, I’m voting for John McCain.
Under Bill Clinton, the S&P 500 returned 210%. Under George Bush the S&P500 has returned 3%.
Do we really want another four years of Bush economics under John McCain?
It’s hard to believe that with gas prices so high, which is causing just about everything else we purchase to sore sky high, that there are people who want the Government to steel what little money we have left. Perhaps the solution would be that only the registered Democrat Obama Clinton lovers would be required to pay the outrageous tax increases they per pose. They shouldn’t mind that. I guess they believe they will really get all the free give me’s they promise. Good luck.

Sheila,
You see, Democrats will change their “ideals” and “rules” to suit the situation. In 2000 we had the DEMS demanding that every vote in Florida MUST be counted, now those votes don’t matter.
In 2000, the DEMS decried the “electoral college” process, now Bill speaks of it kindly as proof that only Hillary can beat McCain. LOL..you gotta laugh at the DNC party hypocrisies.
