FDT quip cracks up Cameron!

Wake Forest, NC:

On a stunning spring day on the campaign trail in North Carolina, I chatted up Fred Thompson who was on the stump for the first time since dropping out, campaigning for John Mccain. McCain was giving a speech at Wake Forest University on judicial conservatism (see earlier post.)
When I asked Thompson if he experienced any ‘crash’ or difficulty readjusting to the pace of a slowed down normal life after his campaign, he paused, grinned and with a twinkle in his eye said:

“That’s one of the advantages of the way I campaigned”

He winked and joked that you don’t have to make that many adjustments.

Carl and Fred joke around

I laughed out loud, and reminded Thompson that he and I have history together with him dissing his own candidacy in front of an open mike, he laughed and barked amiably:

“Who cares?”

Back before the NH primary as Thompson and I waited for FNC to take our interview live after his remarks to the famed “Politics and Eggs” breakfast, I joked to the producers that we were keeping the ‘next president’ waiting too long and we should go live quickly.

Thompson quipped for all to hear that HE too had a busy schedule.

Reporters took it as proof that Thompson was not a serious candidate.

In fact, Thompson both then, and again today, was attempting a self deprecating joke. It’s funny in all sorts of ways.

I miss Fred incredibly. It is a great loss to this nation that he will not be our next president. I can only hope that McCain will consider him for the Supreme Court. Fred would be an immense asset to this wonderful country in the role of a Supreme Court justice.

INDIANA , N.CAROLINA, don waste you vote with Obama.

FOR most of this election Obama was CNN golden boy shoving Obama into weak gullible voters throats, thus hurting unfairly Sen Clinton’s campaign. This is why unpatriotic Obama and his hatefull friends have been placed in a more favorable position so far.

CNN can say anything they want now but SEN CLINTON SUPPORTERS will never vote for a questionable Obama. In November we will stay home or vote Macain at least he is an american war hero who respects his country Flag and National Anthem. He will protect America from terrorists and antiamerican hatefuls.

Hillary or Macain 08!

Fred is a nice guy but he never acted like he really wanted to fight to be elected!

You might be interested to know my close friend, a writer who lives in London tells
me the Muslims are rejoicing at the prospect of Obama as President. If that doesn’t
speak volumes, what does? I agree that he is getting Arab money. My friend said
they send money to Muslim mosques around the country, including Black Muslims (Farrakhan,
eg.) and then the money is contributed in the name of the members. That’s how
the source of the money is disguised. But the media has given him a free ride and
has put a lid on anything that detracts from his candidacy. My question is WHY?
Any thoughts on why the media is doing it?

I’m considering writing in Fred Thompson. I live in Texas, and even though he was out of the running when we had our primary, I picked his name. He was the most conservative choice, with the kind of good sense and statesmanship we need in this country right now. I’m really worried about the coming election. We’re left with choosing the lesser of 3 evils, it seems.

Carl - FYI, Wake Forest University is in Winston-Salem NC, not in Wake Forest, NC. It moved from that location many years ago.

Hey Wayne, doesn’t sound like luv/America loves only himself. Sounds like he has done his homework. I liked Fred too. Will hope McCain wins as I think the Dems will raise taxes and I don’t trust either one of them. They’ve been caught in too many lies.

Fred Thompson is as true a conservative as Maureen Dowd or Mamie Vander Helsing are liberal feminists. Count my write-in for Fred, too.

Wow…This is really hysterical ? I’m glad these good old white boys are having so much fun….

Why not just have Fred Thompson as McCain’s VP choice? Anyone think of that yet?

Comment by Charma

Andy,

Thought it, wished it, dreamed it, prayed it many, many times, but Fred doesn’t want it.

The only candidate to run for the office without personal ambition driving him to do or say what is not honest or forthright and unproductive was mocked by imbeciles and the incapable for being “lazy” or “didn’t want it bad enough”…what absolute fools.

We lost an honest to God president in Fred Thompson through our own collective incapability for our own governance.

Even if we were to learn from this, when was the last time such a worthy candidate stepped up to accept the most thankless job on the planet??

Shame on us all.

Glad to have you in North Carolina Carl, watch out for us small town middle class Americans clinging to our guns because we’re bitter. :)

There were some of us that really got bitter today when we found out that Hillary lost North Carolina to Obama, oh well we have John McCain to pull us out of the mud…Tell him that while he is stumping we tarheels will cling to our guns and go hunting until Nov when we vote for him. The last time North Carolina went democrat was for Carter, maybe it will go Republican again this election!

I really liked Fred Thompson. I am a former Tennessee resident, and have followed Fred for quite a while. I don’t think Fred didn’t “really want it” or “didn’t want to fight hard enough!” Fred is that kind of person. He is laid back, humorous, honest, and just wants to do the right thing. What other politician drives a pick-up truck???
