Full Interview with American Military Hero, Bud Day
by Carl Cameron
Fort Walton Beach, Florida
Like John McCain, Col. George E. “Bud” Day spent over 5 yrs in Vietnamese POW camps. Day and John McCain were cell-mates for about 2 and a half years. Day is a legendary military hero with more medals and ribbons than anyone since General Douglas MacArthur.

Cameron, you will NEVER have a better interview than this one with Col. Day. The only bad thing is that it wasn’t nearly long enough. Lt. Col. North or Hannity could do an hour interview with Col. Day and would still not be able to get to all the interesting stories. Will there be a full airing of the interview?
Just think of what these brave heroes endured under true torture, as opposed to the discomfort that some of the Gitmo detainees encounter. It makes my blood boil that politicians and the media refer to the goings on at Gitmo as torture. If that is the case, what word would describe what our POW’s were put through?
Please make sure that all the interview is available. There were some audio problems, but it didn’t interfere with the big picture.
Thank you, Cameron, and God Bless Col. Bud Day!!!

The President is Commander in Chief of our Millitary. It is telling that John McCain is the overwhelming choice of these men and women who have served and are serving our country. I believe this is due to three major reasons.
First, John McCain will never allow our troops to be wasted due to stupid rules of engagement. When we place our troops in harms way, we owe it to them to allow them to use all of their resources to preserve and protect their missions. Ask any Vietnam Veteran what they hated about that war and the two overwhelming problems will be bewildering rules of engagement that artificially placed them in danger, and the April 1975 Saigon Embassy fiasco that made all of the lives, wounds, time, and resources wasted.
Second, John McCain will never allow our troops to be wasted by half hearted commitments and nebulous mission statements. When you are placing these people, mainly young men out in the battle zones we owe them a clear statement as to why they are there and what we want to accomplish with their blood and sacrifices. Most of the troops currently in Iraq still support the mission, because they are seeing real progress. But they are getting burned out. We need to step up recruitment to give them longer times away from Iraq before they go back. My son in law will be stateside for less than one year before he goes back.
Third, John McCain understands the Collin Powell doctrine of using overwhelming force. This doctrine saves both our and the enemy troops lives. To accomplish this we need to ensure that our troops have the best equipment possible. No more of Rumsfield’s crap about fighting with what was in stock so the vendor doesn’t lose money by retrofitting Humvees with necessary armour etc.
Finally, the military is the most integrated part of American Culture. John McCain would not even think of Hillary Clinton’s racist appeal in the USA Today Interview
“hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me. There’s a pattern emerging here,” she said; the man would not even think it.”
Shame on you Hillary, move over so we can move on to the important issues of the general election
This man is a true hero, as is John McCain. If there is more of the interview, please show it. I heard Col Day speak in 1984 while attending the Air Force Senior NCO Academy - an amazing man.
If there’s more, we need to see it.
I met this man in February of this year. I was in awe of his record and his humility. All great heroes like himself are not braggarts but simply Patriots who express a Love for America and let their Deeds of Military service speak for themselves. He is the example for all Americans to follow and it makes us all realize that our rights to vote and our Freedoms are the results of over 200 years of self sacrificing Americans like himself. Others who apologize for America and who have no spine to stand for this country and what is right need to follow his, and all of are current and former military veterans, God Bless America
Carl absolutly a awesome post and interview please show this more on TV so people can see REAL americans not “hype” from Obamaites!
Thank you, Carl, for an outstanding interview. People like Col. Day and Senator McCain who have been POW’s deserve the utmost respect from all of us. As my late husband was a civilian POW taken captive at the start of WWII at Wake Island and held by the Japanese in China and Japan for the duration of the war, I can assure you that the tiny bit of their experience shared by Col. Day and Senator McCain is not even the tip of the iceberg of what they endured. It does not matter which war, I am sure the POW’s don’t tell most of what happened to them because it is just too painful to talk about. I totally agree with the above comments by Mr. Blackburn about the Gitmo detainees. My thanks to all of our POW’s and all of our service men and women. You are all indeed heroes. God Bless each and every one of you. I hope to hear more of your interview, Carl.
Yes, Senator McCain will get my vote.

America can truly be proud of these wonderful men. What a breath of fresh air that interview was especially since currently there is so much negativity out there. Special thank you to the American military, past and present.
I would be honored to call John McCain my commander in chief. I would be happy to place my fambly and myself in the care of a man of such character. Our Country needs the guidence of
this man. I think the very presence of Sen. McCain in the White House would scare all the fight out of our enemies. Thanks for the interview by Mr. Cameron.

Mr. Carl Cameron, thank you for interviewing Colonel “Bud” Day. He is truly an American hero, and one that we must never forget.
The United States of America has sent her men and women to war, and they have served us well. What kind of world would we live in today with out their sacrafices, and the sacrafice of the American people at home. Europe would be Germany, and China might be Japan.
God Bless America and the men and women who have given their lives to protect us.

Col. Day, although I am a vetran I never suffered what you did. Thank You for your service to our country, May GOD Bless and keep you. Glen Davis
There is only one person that I have been interested in voting for, for years. It is our Arizona Senator, John McCain! He does listen to his constituants, unlike the self serving Clinton and Obama. They talk about change and that change would be to turn this country more towards Socialism and the loss of our rights as Americans. I look at a candidates record, what they voted for and against and whether they kept their word or not before I vote for them. With John MsCain, I have had very little doubt as to his honesty and integrity. Clinton has no honor and no integrity. Obama is just plain full it and himself and I wouldn’t trust him as a city dog catcher. Look at his record…it sucks!!!
I was a second grader at Grissom Elementry School at Clark AFB (Dad was stationed there) when Col. Day was released from capture March 1973… and honored to receive a reply to a letter I had written to him while in class. His note also included his POW bracelet. To this day, it is one of my most cherished possessions.
I think John McCain is a hero and should be recognized as such. The democratic presidential canidates don’t have the experience or the will to be our Commander N Chief. John McCain has proven he is both the experience and the will to lead this country.
God Bless America and the honorable men and woman who love their country so much that they are willing to sacrifice for our freedom. It is hard to imagine the tortuous conditions that Mr. Day, John McCain, and others have endured during their service. I am proud of my country and I pray we elect John McCain, a true American hero who loves his country!!
Thank you for airing this interview. What a great service Col. Day has done for his and my country. Stories like this should be brought out at this time of history. Thank you again.
Dear Mr. Day,
Thank you for all you did for America and for me. Your strength as a captive and your attitude about your torture in the FoxNews interview were exemplary beyond belief. I can’t let this opportunity pass without telling you how much I appreciate you as a soldier and as a person.
A true American hero! Thank you for your service to the country. Please continue to tell the story. More Americans need to hear it. God bless you.
I have a new HERO!! God Bless
We just want to let you and Senator McCain know how much we appreciate your service to your country during your imprisonment in Vietnam. I am a retired Marine and have a son and daughter in law in the Air Force. They each have around two or two and a half years before retirement. Your uncommon valor was a comon virtue. SEMPER FIDELIS!
THATS MY GRANDPA!!!!
THAT’S MY GRANDPA!!!
John Kerry and Obama should sit down and watch this together.
Day & McCain…Thank you…true heroes then, now, and forever.
SEMPER FIDELIS! GOD BLESS!
PS – Carl, this needs to be repeated at various times, at least until Nov. 5
Thank you for your service. Thank God for men like you and John McCain. John McCain has our vote!
May God Bless you and all of our military.

Semper Fi Col. Day! You and your fellow service men are what made this country and our armed forces great. I only ask that you continue to speak out so that all American’s can really learn about your story and the story of your Cell Mate. He has my vote and both he and you have my respect! Joe
I have had the pleasure of hearing Col. Day speak while I was in the USAF in the mid 80’s through the mid 90’s. He is one of the most inspiring speakers you will ever hear, I would love to hear him speak again on a longer interview. GOD BLESS Col. Day
I am a 21 year retiree from the USAF and I was in Vietnam as an Air Force Medic flying airevac patients to Danang, Cam Rahn Bay and Ton Sohn Nut for further treatment. The Tet offensiven in 68 was bloody. I have known John McCain as originally from MS like me and I respect him to no end. He is the man for the Presidency and I will definitely be voting for him. And also Col Day was another hero from there that I have followed for several years
A message to those who run political ads for Republicans: Give Americans Bud Day. Let him tell his story, a true story, not the hype we get in political ads, and John McCain will be our next president, because people will see that he earned that privilege. The reward for service, is, indeed (it has been said), more service.
Hero!
Col. Day, I cannot adequately express the feelings of gratitude to you and my deep respect for you and Senator McCain. I’m 63 and served stateside in the Army reserves during the Vietnam war, so I cannot pretend to even partially understand the magnitude of the sacrifice made by you and Senator McCain. Your valor, resourcefulness and deep love for America reflect well on the values instilled in those like you two true American heroes. I am forever grateful to you.
God bless both you and Senator McCain for your military service! You make me very proud to be an American!
I am a Vietnam Vet & have seen my share of action. I am proud of my service to my country.
I hold high respect for all of the POWs especially Col Day & John McCain they are true American
heros. I would be proud to call John McCain my Camander N Chief. John McCain has my vote.
Col. Day, please accept my heartfelt appreciation for your service to our country — and for your heroism during some of the worst possible conditions. Thank you also, for sharing about Sen. McCain, who I earnestly look forward to calling our next Commander in Chief.
The British have a saying –”Good show Yank!” Bud is amazing.
This makes me proud to be an American. I can’t believe I’ve never heard any of this before.
Since John McCain will not brag on himself, please let this or frequent fragments of this be aired. Please market it and play it again and again. Obama’s packaging looks so hep, but seems like fluff next to these heroes. I love President George W. and I am not a McCain excerpt, but I have read some about the Hanoi (for instance: Red McDaniel’s autobiography). I think it is reasonable to trust a man like McCain. He apparently loves life at every level, even the little unborn seedlings. This I can respect in man.
Excerpt in the last entry should have read expert. Whoops!
Deeply moving
An amazing story from an an amazing man. I want to echo everything that has been said here tonight. God Bless you and God Bless America!!!!
I have had the recent honor of meeting Col. Day and his lovely wife, Doris. I am ashamed to admit that before meeting them, I had no real knowledge of the atrocities committed on the POWS. Since then, I have read Col. Day’s book, Duty, Honor, Country, and have been enlightened. I have nothing but the utmost respect for our American heroes, and I owe that to Col. and Mrs. Day, who is also a hero.
The most remarkable thing, in my opinion, is how humble Col. Day is, he is a true warrior. Thank you.
Thank you!!!
And how sad it makes me to think that this country would consider Obama…a man who has done nothing for this country, whose father did nothing and was not even a citizen…
We forget too easily all those that have gone before…all they endured and fought for…sometimes I wonder what they think of our current state of values in this country and where we are headed…is that what they fought for…
They are precious to our hertitage and roots so matter…look at not only McCain’s service to our country, but his family’s.
Bud Day and fellow comrades…thank you from the bottom of all I have.
Colonel & Mrs. Day are the best of the best. They are both heroes and special role models for all of us. They continue to inspire us. They are the pride of Sioux City, Iowa. May God always bless them!
After actually watching this clip, it makes one think a lot. Our society creates celebrities and heroes at the drop of the hat. This man is not only an “old school” mans man..but a REAL AMERICAN HERO.
It’s a shame that the public never hears these stories, more than a shame it’s a disgrace.
When one compares the type of people that Day and McCain are to the other candidates running for POTUS. There really is no comparison.
Col. Days story should be told over and over. John McCain might not brag on himself but we the people sure can. This is the kind of stories the new generations need to here, my children and their children so we never forget what truly real heroes America has. Thank you to all our military. I too will be proud to call John McCain my Commander and Chief!
This alone is reason to vote for McCain over that liberal, pussy lying racist.
Thanks for sharing this heroatic clip of a true hero talking about another true hero fighting for OUR freedom. John McCain you are the only one to deserve the votes of all americans because you have proven to mean it, to fight it, to walk the talk, talk the walk and walk the walk! You paid more than life. You lived thru pain for us to be free from the dangerous world out there. We should hear more of these stories and have such a person only in the oval office. We can trust no one esle.
Semper Fidelis, Sir! Outstanding and inspirational! You are a hero, which, I am sure you humbly dispute. The fact is, it is our American privelage to call you that! It is a part of the freedom that you fought and sufffered for, so valiantly! Thank You, Sir! Former Marine Mom-Jan
I am very tuched at what happened to these brave men,you would think that the american people would be too.I am a person that cryes ever time we honer the very brave men and women who risk their lives then, an today,in fact I am crying a hand full as I am typing this comment.People do not relize if it was’nt people like John, and Mr.Day we wouldn’t have the freedom that we have.I am at au just at the torture that these men went through. This just proves that the one and only God is still in command. If this country stops putting him FIRST in what they do or say, we will fall.
Thank you Mr. john Macain
PS I will stand by this man every step Of the way.I love this united states
These are the people our children should be emulatiing. Col. Day and Senator McCain are true heroes.
God bless our military. You will forever be in my prayers. Words are never enough to say THANK YOU!!!
From: Spouse of deceased USAF retiree:
Without Colonel “Bud” Day and his fine band of associates, who were successful in their legal pursuit for retired military personnel and their dependents to receive our entitled full medical benefits, I and countless others would not be recipients of our medical entitlement. Our government reneged on their long-ago promised benefit to us, but Colonel Day and associates won the legal battle, which entailed a monetary expense for them and their contributors.
Colonel Day, I thank you and all those associated with your secured mission for our rightful medical benefits. I also thank you and Senator McCain for your distinguished military and peace time service to our country and its citizens.
It never ceases to amaze me that the true heroes, like Col. Day and Senator McCain, are so humble. After retiring from the Navy after 20 years and during my career, I have met several of these humble warriors, although not the Col. or Senator McCain, and always I notice that they don’t brag or boast. That in itself is a true testament to their character. It is mindbending to try and fathom what they had to endure in the service of their country.
There is no doubt in my mind that Senator McCain has the character, fortitude and tenacity to lead this country. He isn’t perfect but he is proven, tested in a harsh environment and didn’t break. He won’t roll over when the going gets tough.
To all the men and women who are serving and who have ever served, whether you saw combat or not, you are my hero. It takes a special person to be in the military. God bless you and thank you for your service.
This is one of the reasons I am NOT voting for John McCain.
USA Today — More than 43,000 U.S. troops listed as medically unfit for combat in the weeks before their scheduled deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan since 2003 were sent anyway, Pentagon records show.
This reliance on troops found medically “non-deployable” is another sign of stress placed on a military that has sent 1.6 million servicemembers to the war zones, soldier advocacy groups say.
“It is a consequence of the consistent churning of our troops,” said Bobby Muller, president of Veterans For America. “They are repeatedly exposed to high-intensity combat with insufficient time at home to rest and heal before redeploying.”
The numbers of non-deployable soldiers are based on health assessment forms filled out by medical personnel at each military installation before a servicemember’s deployment.
According to those statistics, the number of troops that doctors found non-deployable, but who were still sent to Iraq or Afghanistan fluctuated from 10,854 in 2003, down to 5,397 in 2005, and back up to 9,140 in 2007.
I recently retired after nearly 30 years of active & Air National Guard service. Col Day has been a special hero to me since I first read his book in the mid-1990’s. He and his wife Doris “The Viking” are two of the most humble, special people I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting, and I’m so proud that he is from Sioux City. God Bless & keep you, Col & Mrs Day!

Oh yeah Michael, John McCain personally did that. Get real
If anyone knows what our troops need it will be McCain. Obama
don’t have one small idea of what the military is about or needs or
anything. Obama has the most me me me posture and thinks
the USA owes him everything. Bull and loud mouth Michelle is even worse.
I can’t even think about her being the first lady. One thing about Laura
Bush she never embarrassed this Country and was a real lady at
all times.
Hello Colonel Day,
I can only say thank you; though that on any level is a pathetic form of an attempt to say what I would like to convey to you and all our War Veterans!!! Hero has become such a word used sometimes too lightly and it has lost the depth that it once carried… You are much more than Heroes as the term is used today. You all were and are such a Blessing and give all Americans the ability to hold our heads so high with pride and honor that only come from actions and dedication from our beloved Men like you. “ Sorry ladies, this is not a time for feminism.” My father, Ronnie F. Wilkins, fought in World War II and though he received medals and such for his service, he never boasted or made a big deal of his duty there… It was his duty!!! My Dad passed away Oct. 10, 1992 and his medals were found packed away in his old foot locker. He was honored to be there and only grieved that all of his buddies didn’t return with him.
Having said all of that I just want to say that POW’s have always jerked at my heart strings as much and on some levels even more than the Men who gave their life for us on the battle field. My heart breaks just imagining the pain and torture endured daily for years on end and for some until their cruel tortured death. I love you all and am so proud to be in the country where Men like You, Senator McCain, and my Daddy served so readily and honorably!
God Bless You All!

BaLACK Hussien ODrama has a brother that is a jihad fighter. Do we REALLY need a president that has terrorist as close reletives AND openly states he will sit down and chat with terrorists.
BaLACK Hussien OBlahblah is A JOKE
As a career USMC officer and Viet Nam Vet, that interview With Col Day ought to be a feature story on Fox News and should be repeated many times in the future. Not because Sen McCain is running for President. It should be repeated to remind the citizens of this great country of ours what are the true definitions of honor, duty, integrity, faith in one’s fellow serviceman/woman and faith in country. And above all, heroism and intestinal fortitude in the extreme. Col. Day and Capt McCain are the embodiment of these rare character traits.
We Viet Nam vets are well aware of the torture that our POWS suffered at the hands of the the NV communists. We will never forget what was done to our POWS and, equally, we won’t forget those of our fellow countrymen/women who aided and abetted our enemies in the torture of men such as Col. Day and Capt McCain.
Thanks to Fox News for a great story and as one Viet Nam vet to another, I salute Col. Day and Sen McCain. They have my greatest respect and admiration. Semper Fidelis
I hope all Americans will stand up for the future of our country and vote for John McCain in the upcoming election. He will be continuously attacked and I am thankful to him for his willingness to put our country first and run to be our Commander in Chief, no matter the sacrifice that will have to be made by him and his family.
Once again, McCain takes a big dump on Veterans!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK_9sI7hzAc
I will never be able to comprehend the pain and suffering these to great men went through while prisoners of war.
I thought I was tough by spending from 1964 to 1969 in Viet Nam.
To michael in atlanta.
I don’t understand your position on the military and McCain. The USA, via Iraq, has forced the bad guys to concentrate their strengths OVER THERE and NOT OVER HERE. That strategy will not change under McCain. I AGREE WITH THAT STRATEGY. The American military, by being OVER THERE, has kept our country safe OVER HERE!! Obama’s total withdrawal date will be approx 5/10 (16 months after Obama taking office). The terrorists want us dead - our withdrawal from Iraq really doesn’t change their plans. They will keep after us whether we withdraw or not. MCCAIN UNDERSTANDS THIS - OBAMA DOES NOT UNDERSTAND!!
That was real torture. So called torture that happened in Iraq was more like high school hazing. It was the best the Democrats could come up with.
Obama is nothing but a dedicated muslim who will sell american down the river as would bill clinton if the cold war has not stopped. Obama’s wife and him both all they have ever done is take from america and not give anything. If this is what america wants GOOD LUCK AMERICAN WE WILL NEED IT.
I too heard Col Day speak at the Air Force Senior NCO Academy, but it was in 1982. I feel honored and priveledged to have shaken the hand of this American hero! Men of his ilk are few and far between.
OBAMA IS HAVING ACTIVE TALKS WITH HAMAS AND GOT BUSTED!!!!!!!!
HE IS TRYING TO EXPLAIN IT AWAY LIKE HE DIDN’T KNOW….LIKE HE DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT HIS PASTOR
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/05/09/report-obama-adviser-ousted-after-speaking-with-hamas/
If he EVER says he does not support hamas HERE IS THE PROOF he is LYING!!!!
GOD HELP US!!!!!!
PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT!!!!!!!!!!
Since the Clinton trials when I watched and FIRST became aquainted with Sen. John McCain, I have been a McCain supporter. I vowed at that time if I could in any way support a Presidency for him I would do that. This time I finally have a chance.
Thank you Colonel Day….you told a true story. Thank you for your own heroism. May God Bless you.
It makes me sick to hear people remark that they’re ashamed to be Americans because they hate George Bush. Here’s what I think they should do if they’re so ashamed….they should leave this country and go to one where they think they could do as well. These folks are ignorant if they think there’s any place on this planet that’s better than the U. S. of America. I’m so proud of America I actually cry when I sing the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America and I’m not ashed of it either.
Now is the time they can finally do something about being ashamed. Vote for JOHN MC CAIN. Be proud of your country and learn something about doing something good, and not whining all the time. All good things will happen if we stand together and stop expecting something for nothing. Be proud to be an American, act like you’re proud, work together and stop hating.
I AM A 35 YEAR AIR FORCE VETERAN MY SERVICE SEEMS SO SMALL TO THAT
OF SENATOR McCAIN AND COLONEL DAY. THEY ENDURED PURE HELL FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS—-NEVER BREAKING. THESE TWO GREAT MEN ARE REAL HEROES. IT WILL BE A
REAL HONOR TO VOTE FOR SENATOR McCAIN TO BE OUR PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER
IN CHIEF. GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND THESE GREAT HEROES.
Both of these prisoners in my way of thinking suffered and were ready to die for their country if need be. They are heroes 100% and I am proud of them . The last three wars korea, Viet Nam and now Iraq, are not wars, You cannot draw lines in the sand and say no no don’t shoot across this line it happened. Are we really winning in Iraq? I lost several friends in korea, & Nam useless wars. my neighbor just left for I raq again 2 purple hearts al ready and who knows if his 2 year old will ever realize why Daddy left him ad someday ask his Dad what are these purple things on this ribbon and who is the man portrayed thereon. I hope and pray daily for the safe rerturn of our military personnel. I made it home from Korea, 54,000 did not , 58,000 did not make it home from Nam, over 4500 killed as of the news last week . How many more before this is over… Hang in there CoL’s McCain & Day .We the Veterans know what you have done for all of us, we are a Humble Mass. Arkansas Vet. for you
A true American HERO!!!! I am proud both Bud Day and John McCain. We need a Commander-in-Chief that knows the military. I hope ALL Americans vote for John McCain…an honest, experienced, true American Hero.
God Bless you Colonel Day for your commitment to the preservation of the American Way of Life.
May others learn from your example. I and my family are in your debt.
dear col. day, thank you. and SEMPER FI. s.l.lewis
dear col. day, thank you. and SEMPER FI. s.l.lewis
I just finished reading the book about Bud Day, “American Patriot”. It is a fantastic book about his life, including his POW experience. I have to admit, I did not know much about Col. Day before a friend gave me the book, but I am a great admirer of him now. By the way, my friend’s father was a Misty pilot during the war, although he never personally met Bud Day - Col. Day was already in captivity when my friend’s dad arrived in Vietnam. Col. Day, John McCain and all the others are heros. No one is perfect, but John McCain is hands down the best person for our country.
